10 Best And Worst Dressed At The Met Gala
On May 2nd, hundreds of A-listers arrived at New York's Metropolitan Museum Of Art for the annual Met Gala. This year the theme was “Manus x Machina: Fashion In An Age Of Technology,” which aimed to blur the lines between handmade haute couture and machine-made items. It was a glittering, sparkly affair… literally. From Emma Watson's dress that was made entirely out of recycled plastic bottles, to Zayn's shiny, metallic robot arms, the Met Gala always showcases extravagant and unique fashion. Some celebrities managed to merge technology and high fashion while wearing original and beautiful outfits, and they will definitely go down in Met Gala history as some of the best dressed. However, other celebs chose outfits that seemed crazy, cluttered, and downright weird. Here are the 10 best and worst dressed at this year's event. Each look is totally memorable in its own way… even if for totally different reasons.
10 Worst: Kanye West
The Met Gala is a prestigious event, and this year guests were encouraged to dress in their finest clothes with a futuristic spin. Kanye decided to do things his own way, which is definitely in line with who he is, but it didn't work out too well. He chose to wear ripped jeans, a T-shirt, and Saint Laurent boots with a show-stopping Balmain bejewelled jacket. He finished the look off with silver contacts, which made the whole outfit look like a 90s version of Tron. Although he kept his unique style, the outfit is underwhelming and a little plain. Despite this, it took a lot of work to make -- Balmain creative directior Olivier Rousteing said it was the hardest outfit he made for the event, and he dressed the whole Kardashian clan.
9 Best: Beyoncé
Beyoncé took the night off from her Formation World Tour to attend the Met Gala, and she wore a stunning latex gown by Givenchy and Riccardo Tisci. The beautiful dress had pearl and floral embellishments, along with puffed sleeves that added a princess feel to the dress. The outfit was stunning, and it continues her Met Gala tradition of the past five years of wearing Givenchy and Riccardo Tisci. Last year, she slayed in a see-through embellished dress that caught the attention of the media, and this outfit is nearly as amazing! We can't wait to see the fabulous creation that she wears next year.
8 Worst: Lady Gaga
On anyone else this outfit would be a hot mess, but on Lady Gaga, it's just super boring. She's definitely The Queen Of Head-Turning Outfits and we can all remember when she wore raw meat and called it a dress. For this event, she wore fishnet tights, platform boots, a bedazzled bodysuit, and finished off the look with big, bleached hair. The whole outfit looks pretty cheap, and we bet those shoes weren't easy to walk in. We still love Gaga, and we know that only she could wear this outfit and not look terrible, but it certainly isn't the show-stopping outfit we were all hoping for.
7 Best: Fei Fei Sun
After all the other wacky outfits, model Fei Fei Sun was a breath of fresh air in her beautiful and delicate dress. This is no surprise: Fei Fei Sun stunned at the 2014 Met Gala in a stunning green dress, and many newspapers voted her as the best dressed celebrity. This year, she wore a minimalistic dress from J. Mendel that was covered with delicate beading and chandelier earrings. The dress had a cut-out effect that exposed her shoulders, which brought a daring effect to the outfit. While she may not have followed the theme, this outfit is beautiful in a classic, timeless style.
6 Worst: Madonna
Madonna turned up to the Met Gala in one of the weirdest outfits of all time. She wore a Givenchy lace dress with a body suit (that didn't cover her chest or behind) and KT tape. Lots of KT tape. This tape is used by athletes and runners with injuries, and she explained to reporters that she used it on tour and it felt great. We love Madonna's originality, but this outfit is very revealing for the Met Gala, and we don't rate the excessive amount of tape covering the arms, body, and legs. Either way, we can always count on Madonna to get people talking!
5 Best: Kendall Jenner
Everyone was looking at Kendall Jenner when she stepped onto the red carpet at the Met Gala -- and it's super clear why. She looked stunning in a custom Versace dress that was hand selected by Donatella Versace. The unique blue, white and gold floor length dress had a modern feel, and the cut-out sections added a daring effect. She teamed the dress with a simple makeup look from Estee Lauder. Although this dress is a simple style, the small details make it one of the most memorable outfits from this year's Met Gala. It seems like the public agrees -- her Instagram selfie got over 2 million likes.
4 Worst: Katy Perry
Katy Perry is a pro at looking totally awesome in over-the-top fashion, and she didn't let us down at this year's Met Gala. While we love the black, blue, and green color scheme of this Prada dress, it falls short for a few reasons. The severe hairstyle is unflattering for Katy's gorgeous face, and with bleached eyebrows, it's just a totally bizarre look. The style of the dress is elegant, but the pattern is too busy and the Tamagotchi is a weird add-on. Despite this, the dress was good when it comes to the theme of the event and it personified Katy: futuristic, unique, and a little gothic!
3 Best: Aja Naomi King
Some celebrities used the Met Gala as a chance to flex their fashion muscles, trying out all kinds of crazy, awesome styles. But sometimes you just can't beat a simple dress. Aja Naomi King was one of the best dressed celebrities at the Met Gala this year, wearing a stunning and simple Prabal Gurung gown. She teamed the dress with Le Vian diamond earrings and gold Stuart Weitzman sandals. The spaghetti straps and plain design really show off the bright color of the dress. Her date for the event was her Birth Of A Nation co-start Nate Parker, and together they looked very dapper.
2 Worst: Nicki Minaj
Nicki Minaj always has a super unique style, and the Met Gala was no different. She made our worst dressed list after showing up in a revealing outfit… covered in belts. The dress was a sheer black Moschino gown that could have looked great - but seriously, why did she wear so many belts? Her whole body and arms are covered by them. This outfit is very busy, and the long black gloves added a cartoon villain effect to the look. She finished off the look with natural makeup and pink lips, which looked amazing - unlike the outfit.
1 Best: Bella Hadid
One of our favorite looks from the Met Gala was model Bella Hadid. She wore a black, gothic dress and her boyfriend, the Weekend matched in an all black suit. Forget about Zayn and Gigi or Kim and Kanye -- Bella and Abel looked like the perfect couple as they rocked up the red carpet in their black, gothic ensembles. They both wore Givenchy by Riccardo Tisci, and we love their decision to match. Bella's dress had a strapless neckline that shows off her figure, and the ruffled skirt made the look unique. We also love how she chose to forgo pumps or strappy heels for a pair of bad-ass over-the-knee boots. Beautiful!
