10 Festival Looks We're Sick Of
What is it about festivals that make people want to get dressed up in the most ridiculous and redundant outfits? They're the kind of ensembles that would make Joan Rivers roll over in her grave with laughter. Some may call it tradition but these are looks that will make our future grandchildren gasp with horror and they'll think that wasn't a time to be alive. Most festivalgoers are trying to make a very specific statement and most of the time this statement is over exaggerated and taken up several notches. Every look is meticulously planned out before hand. So much attention is put into each person's festival looks that we often wonder why they end up being so horrible. Music festivals have become a place to show off your best or worst street style and in a sense music festivals have morphed into some kind of rejected runway show. The looks seem to be the same every year and we can almost predict what people will wear. Here are 10 festival looks we're sick of…
10 Flower Crown Goddess
Flower crowns have essentially become the national symbol for music festivals. After Lana Del Rey's Born To Die music video was released it was as if every girl wanted to be reimagined as a lovesick songstress. Some form of flowy chiffon fabric typically accompanies these faux flower crowns. Adding a floor length something always puts a punch on the whole hippie bride look. There is something about music and the outdoors that makes some girls want to look like mother nature, it's like we get it you're earthy but not really. The flowers are totally fake just like the entire image they're trying to portray.
9 Light Bright
Then there are the people that look like they just got off the set of a LMFAO video. Every color they have on is highlighter bright. Typically this person looks as though they live for the raves and they're going to take the rave with them everywhere they go. It's super appropriate for the Neon Festival but please leave it there.
8 Boho Babe
The bohemian look is a common theme for festivals and we get it, this look is very appropriate and corresponds with the festival vibe but we're so over it. This look usually features a messy braid or two, dream catchers, and tribal prints. We understand that you're dressing for the occasion and you want to look the part but it's more than played out.
7 Rodeo Girl
This look is cousins with the Boho Babe. You'll usually see a cowboy hat involved or something similar as well as some sort of suede fringe. This girl looks like she's ready for the rodeo except she might have strappy sandals on instead of boots. A bandana is always thrown in somewhere and probably some cut off shorts. You would think that with an outfit like that you would be ready to get wild and dirty but that is not the case at a music festival.
6 Whimsical Fairy
Crystals hang from their necks and their skin is dusted with glitter. They float around festival grounds like little nymphs holding hands and creating random dance circles. These creatures of whimsy are decked in tulle, lace and chiffon. We get that you want to look and feel like a mythical woodland creature but maybe try something a little more unique for the next festival.
5 Disco Queen
This lady is ready to feel the beat and she's letting everyone at the festival know that disco isn't dead. She either has her bell-bottoms on or a shimmering jumpsuit to accompany her knee high boots. Sadly this queen has never been to an actual disco and she's probably never heard of the Bee Gees. We get that you're trying to relive Woodstock but if can't even name one 60s or 70s band you should go home and do your research.
4 America's Sweetheart
She's got her studded cut offs on and American flag crop top and she's ready for some fun. This is the girl next door and it might be her first time at a music festival. Her hair is perfectly curled and her make up is in place. She has her bikini on under her clothes and she is ready for some fun. The problem is she's mixing every festival look together in one and there is way too much going on.
3 Gypsy Hippie
The gypsy hippie has enough layers for the entire festival to stay warm at nightand a ring on every finger. She has on a crossbody bag and a backpack. She looks like she might pull out some tarot cards and tell you about your future but her bags are only filled with outfit changes. Her highly offensive bindi is in the wrong place and her hands are adorned with fresh henna. She wears a floor length skirt that sways as she walks by and you might even hear something jingle. You're thinking “wow this girl goes places,” but the only places she goes are music festivals.
2 Tumblr Girl
The Tumblr girl is super on trend and ready for the future. She rocks rainbow cornrows and vintage athletic brands. Her leather motorcycle jacket is embellished with patches and pins. Her hair is an intentional tasseled mess and she's ready to party. The Tumblr girl probably has a 35mm film camera around her neck and cat eye sunglasses on her face. She's too cool for school and you've probably seen on her Instagram. She rocks long acrylic nails and wing eyeliner. She doesn't have one choker on; she has two and you can see her rolls of film through her clear backpack.
1 Indie Artists
She's the girl sitting in the corner of the coffee shop with her head submerged in a book, except this girl isn't reading any books. This chick has some ironic t-shirt on and a polka dot skirt with Dr. Martens. She's wearing way too many clothes for the weather and she has perfectly trimmed bangs. If Zoey Deschanel and Goyte had a love child it would be this girl. She looks like she is in a band but she can barley play a note. We assume this is one of the few girls that came to the festival to actually appreciate the music but she's fooling us just like the rest of them.
