12 Chick Flicks Even Your BF Will Enjoy
It's the biggest cliche around: girls love chick flicks (aka romantic comedies or super mushy romantic dramas) and guys love action movies. Stereotypes much?! Since dinner-and-a-movie is such a classic date combo, the topic of what movie to see is always a super big deal, no matter who you're dating -- or how long you've been together. For some reason, society seems to think that it's no big deal for us girls to sit through the worst movies imaginable, from superheroes galore to whatever other summer movies Hollywood has subjected us to, guys can't possibly watch girly movies. No way. Well, if your boyfriend has ever (with a lot of begging) agreed to watch one of your favorite films and has actually enjoyed it, you know that the opposite sex can totally get into these types of stories. Here are 12 chick flicks that even your boyfriend will enjoy.
12 Notting Hill
Here's the thing: no one can resist Hugh Grant. Your boyfriend will basically insert himself into the movie and picture himself as Hugh Grant, and he'll want to be him. That will win you major points and since he'll enjoy this adorable English tale so much, you'll probably get to pick a lot more so-called chick flicks in the future. Total win, right?
11 Made Of Honor
Patrick Demsey is cool. Super cool. So again, your boyfriend will totally want to be him, and he will be his new hero. So you might even be able to rope your BF into watching Grey's Anatomy with you sometimes. Okay, maybe not. That might be too big a stretch. But he'll definitely love this movie about a guy who is used to dating tons of girls -- and eventually falls in love, realizing it's not really so bad. At least it will prove to your guy that, yeah, being in a solid relationship is an awesome idea (although of course he already thinks that, since he's with you).
10 The Vow
Rachel McAdams is always a pretty big selling point for any movie, no matter what gender you are. So start with The Notebook and then watch The Vow with your boyfriend. He'll adore this story, because it's such a great one: after a terrible accident, Paige forgets all about her one true love Leo, and thinks she's living an entirely different life. It's such a cool look at the paths that you can go down and the kind of decisions that we make, and it'll be a great conversation starter for you guys.
9 Mean Girls
Your BF needs to watch this movie, at least for his pop culture education. It's super important. This is a totally amazing movie, as you of course know, since it's crazy popular with us girls. Tell your guy that he needs to watch this with you so he can appreciate all its hilarious, witty and clever quotes, and plus, he's probably a Tina Fey fan (if he knows what's good for him). So he'll definitely enjoy this film.
8 Love Story
This may be a total classic, from way back when (okay, 1970, but that does feel like forever ago), but it's necessary for your boyfriend's chick flick movie marathon. It's just a super beautiful, inspiring and, yes, crazy sad romantic movie about what it's like to love and lose someone. Again, your BF is going to cry more than you. It will be worth it.
7 The Break-Up
You obviously adore Jennifer Aniston (because of Friends and because she's just so adorable), and your boyfriend will really love this movie. He'll totally relate to Vince Vaughn's character and it's just a super great story about a couple who is still in love but decides to go their separate ways. It's also hilarious and witty, so it's a great way to introduce your BF to the chick flick genre.
6 Bridesmaids
This is basically a chick flick since it's about women and getting married, but it's also insanely hilarious and smart. Like crazy smart. Your boyfriend will absolutely fall in love with this movie because it's as raunchy as any other Judd Apatow film and it proves that women are super funny (which, duh, we already knew). It's probably even funnier than most movies your BF has ever seen, and he'll be quoting it forever, which is definitely not a bad thing.
5 Crazy Stupid Love
This romantic comedy about several generations dealing with love is sweet, smart and heartwarming. Sure, your BF might not love that you're going to be swooning over Ryan Gosling the entire time, but hey, you just can't help it. That's basically a requirement of being a female on this planet in this day and age. But the story is really worth watching, and your BF will get swept up in the drama before he even realizes it.
4 500 Days Of Summer
This is such a great chick flick because it feels like a rom-com that is crazy girly, but it also has the feel of a true independent film. Your boyfriend will love it because it's got awesome music and a killer storyline, and you already love it because you've seen it about a million times. It's another awesome convo-starter, so watch with some pizza and beer and keep chatting when the credits are rolling.
3 Breakfast At Tiffany's
Sure, this is definitely a chick flick but it's also a classic, and you can't find a more beautifully crafted movie. Your boyfriend needs to see this, again for his education, but also because he'll enjoy the storyline. Plus he'll finally know what everyone is talking about since this movie gets referenced basically every single day.
2 Love Actually
This may be the ultimate Christmas movie and everyone's favorite flick to curl up on the couch with, hot chocolate in one hand and the falling snow inside. But it's also an ultimate chick flick, right? Your boyfriend needs to see this because it's tons of fun. After Notting Hill and The Notebook, he probably will be super on board and won't even complain. Score. Of course, you don't have to save it until the winter holidays, but why not watch it now and then watch it again in December? Your BF might even suggest it.
1 The Notebook
Yes, really. The Notebook is a classic and while your boyfriend will totally fight you on this one, eventually he'll come around. And then you'll be the one holding out the tissues while he bawls his (dreamy) eyes out. There's no way he won't be super moved by this nostalgic love story. It's such a powerful narrative that by the end, he'll be begging you to not tell his friends that he sobbed the entire time. You can hold it over him if you want. Just kidding. You should totally keep his secret.
