12 Things We Learned From Watching The Grammys
The Grammy Awards Ceremony is considered one of music's biggest nights. We get to see performances from artists and duos that have been absolutely killing it on the music scene from the past year, and get to watch some of our favorite artists get recognized and rewarded for their amazing work. With any award show though, there are always some interesting outfits, awkward live TV moments, and that one presenter who messes up their lines. But more than any award show, the Grammy's have proved time after time to be one of the best, mainly because of it's legitimacy, fun, and because it brings people together who share the love and passion of music. Here are some things that we learned after watching this exciting Grammy's night!
12 Is Sam Hunt Single?!
Even if you are not into country music, you can't deny that Sam Hunt is one of the more good looking and talented young country music artists out there. After his amazing performance with fellow incredibly talented country music artist, Carrie Underwood, it makes us wish that we were being sung to by that country hottie. To make things even better, he wore an amazing blush pink Dolce & Gabbana suit that only Sam can seem to pull off. The good news is, is that not only is his album climbing the country charts, but Sam is single at the moment! Line up ladies!
11 We Need More Tori Kelly And James Bay
After the incredible performance of both Tori Kelly and James Bay, it makes us need more of them! When someone's performance is acoustic and so simple, it truly showcases one's talent. The fact that the two of them, who have very different genres of music, can collaborate and create a performance that looks so natural makes us believe that these are truly talented musicians. We love Bay's British, cool, and romantic persona, being juxtaposed with Kelly's wild, fun, and vocally insane persona. The mix of the two talents somehow created a trance for the audience.
10 We NEED To See 'Hamilton'
Whether you are interested in musical theater or not, it's hard to say that the performance of the Broadway musical “Hamilton” was nothing short of amazing. Musical theater has the ability to not only tell a story, but to show it through the actors' talented abilities of acting, singing, and dancing. The story surrounding the show is about the life of Alexander Hamilton, and they use the incredibly detailed lyrics of the music to tell this story. Not only did their performance blow us away, but they walked home with the Grammy for “Best Musical Theater Album” that night. Well deserved.
9 It's A Big Night For Big Hair Changes
Sometimes when we color or cut our hair differently, we wish we had a big event to reveal it so you can properly debut your new look. For these celebrities, they have the ability to do this, where they completely change their look for this huge occasion. Meghan Trainor ditched her blonde locks and changed it to a fresh and fiery red and debuted it onstage for the world to see. Taylor Swift also showed up with shorter and more chopped locks and bangs, and Lady Gaga went full orange to honor the late David Bowie. These celebs must have a blast being able to debut their freshly cut and styled hair at an event like that!
8 Gaga Knows How To Perform
After losing one of music's greatest icons this year, David Bowie, we wondered how they were going to pay tribute to him during this musically diverse awards show. Turns out they chose a performer who knows how to work a stage-Lady Gaga. Gaga performed some of Bowie's songs, and did it in a way that completely honored him. She dressed like him, sang like him, and moved about like him, and although some critic's weren't very impressed, it is hard to deny the fact that Lady Gaga knows how to perform and work a crowd. You can tell she has the passion for music, and it seemed absolutely obvious that she wanted to pay the highest respects to Bowie and his music.
7 We Need To Listen To More Alabama Shakes
It's truly magic when we discover a band that we know little about at a highly acclaimed awards show that we actually become obsessed with. The band Alabama Shakes performed that night, and although a majority of the audience had never heard of them, they made us believe that great music is still being produced. Singer Brittany Howard absolutely rocked the stage as they performed their lead-off single “Sound & Color” from their album of the previous year. It is hard to believe that this was their Grammy debut, for they acted like they had rocked that particular stage hundreds of times before!
6 Kendrick Lamar Is On Fire
Kendrick Lamar taught us something about performances-if you know you are to perform at a highly watched and extremely anticipated awards ceremony and you have got something to say, this is the place to do it. Lamar brought his performance to an entire new level by not just performing his songs to showcase his talent, but to also bring in political issues that he is passionate about in the mix. His performance definitely had a message, and even if people agreed or disagreed with his message, you cannot deny that passion for it completely blazed through.
5 Speech Music Is Still Annoying
By this point, it is almost a joke when someone is starting to say their winning speech, and the overhead music starts to play over them, basically kicking them off the stage. There comes a point where, yes, it is necessary to keep people from rambling on, but the music that starts to play almost ruins the moment for both the audience and the winner. The fact that it starts to get louder and louder the longer the winner is on stage almost acts as a tool to scare them off of it! In any sense, the exiting music is necessary, but that still doesn't mean that it's not annoying!
4 Adele Is Reliable
Adele is one of those artists that we can count on to perform flawlessly in any type of performance. She is one that we look forward to, not only because of the deeply emotional songs that she writes, but also the ability and velocity of those pipes she's got. Although, during this Grammy performance, there were a bit of sound issues, where apparently the mic on the piano dropped, making a strange guitar sound in the background, which then had the sound guy trying to fix the audio. But despite this, she performed flawlessly, and continuously shows us that her ability as a singer, songwriter, and performer will always keep us listening.
3 Slits Are IN
Besides the events going on during the actual Grammy Awards ceremony, a lot of the attention was right on the red carpet. One trend that we saw a lot of: slits, high slits. One example of this was style goddess Taylor Swift, who wore a skirt that had a slit up the middle-exposing her strong and fierce legs. Her BFF Selena Gomez showed up by her side wearing a sparkling blue dress that exposed her leg that she absolutely rocked. Slits are in, not only because they are sexy and add that bit of mysterious appeal, but it looks great on anybody who is willing to rock what they wear. We all need a bit more slits in our life!
2 Johnny Depp Is In A Band?
Not gonna lie-we were a bit taken back when we saw A-list actor Johnny Depp on the Grammy Award red carpet. Sure, he's an insanely famous actor and can basically show up to any award show and be thoroughly welcomed-but why show up to the Grammys? Well, turns out that Johnny Depp has a band called The Hollywood Vampires, and they performed! It turns out that the band was formed with Alice Cooper and Joe Perry, and was to honor the rock artists who had died in the 1970's. The name of the band was named after the Hollywood Vampires, which was a celebrity drinking club that Alice Cooper created back in the 1970's as well. After their totally rockin' performance, their band is worth listening to!
1 Winning 'Album Of The Year' Is The Best Comeback
After the hype surrounding Kayne West's new album, and more specifically, a song called “Famous” that he mentions music's sweetheart, Taylor Swift. The song has some misogynistic undertones, alluding to Taylor stating, “I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex / Why? I made that b!+*h famous.” After the song was released, Taylor stayed quiet when releasing her own personal response to it. But when it came to announcing the winner of “Album Of the Year” at the Grammy's, Taylor's name was called and she took her winning speech as a way to stand up for herself. She stated, clearly referring to West that “there are going to be people along the way who will try to undercut your success or take credit for your accomplishments or your fame.” Clearly, the best way Taylor could have proven Kanye wrong was to succeed, and she did it on the Grammy stage.
