13 Actors From The 90s You've Totally Forgotten About
Some 90's stars have really sunk into obscurity. The actors from our favorite movies and TV shows that we watched as kids are nowhere to be seen these days. So much so, that you've probably forgotten about them altogether! When they were big, they were really big but with the turn of the millennium something shifted and many of the actors we had come to love had to turn to voice over work or TV movies to keep up a steady job.
But that doesn't make us any less curious as to what those actors are up to now. We love that nostalgic stuff don't we? We're not even old, we're in our 20's and 30's but we can't help reminiscing about the good old days when we watched Clueless at the cinema and The Fresh Prince on TV. Next time your grandparents start rattling on about their heyday, give them a break because you do it too, and you haven't even experienced half of your life yet.
So here are some of the actors that have fallen off the face of the earth but who you'll love to get all nostalgic about:
13 Tahj Mowry
You probably remember this little cutie from TV shows you watched as a kid. He's the brother of Tia and Tamera Mowry and therefore starred in their show Sister, Sister, which was ace by the way - maybe they should do a reboot. Mowry also had the leading role in his own show Smart Guy about a child prodigy which aired from 1997 until 1999. He was pretty popular in the 90's and featured as a guest star on lots of shows, even Friends! Now at 30 years old, Mowry is still acting - he plays a lead character in the sitcom Baby Daddy. But you've probably forgotten about him as Baby Daddy isn't exactly the biggest show on TV right now. He's also a musician and released his first single "Flirt" and EP Future Funk in 2015.
12 Brendan Fraser
Brendan Fraser did so well in the 90's! He was one of the biggest actors of the decade. He starred in some major cult classics like Airhead (1994) and Glory Daze (1995), though we were perhaps a little to young at the time to watch them. The role that he's probably most well-known for is playing Rick O'Connel, the lead character in The Mummy (1999). But it all seemed to go down hill from there. In the 2000s he starred in some movies that were not so great, like the sequels to The Mummy and Journey to the Center of the Earth (2008). Fraser is still acting, mostly on TV or in lesser movie roles. Maybe he was typecast too many times as these cheesy, goofball characters and so started becoming difficult to cast in the movies.
11 Tatyana Ali
Tatyana Ali of course played Ashley Banks in The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, a show that we'll forever be nostalgic about. She also had a hit single in 1998 called "Daydreamin" - you'll definitely remember the song if you listen to it, so it's time for some YouTubin'. Obviously, none of the actors on Fresh Prince achieved the kind of fame and success that Will Smith did. But Ali continued to act, she played Roxanne in The Young and the Restless until 2013. She also has appeared in a whopping 24 movies. So she's had a steady job as an actor, she just hasn't had the kind of prolific roles that we would remember. We're sure she doesn't really care though because she has had success elsewhere. She has a degree from Harvard no less!
10 Elizabeth Berkley
Elizabeth Berkley was a big star back in the 90's. She's most well-known for playing the character of Jessie Spano in Saved by the Bell. Back when she was at the height of her fame she was getting acting gigs in the likes of Showgirls and The First Wives Club. But after the turn of the millenium she didn't seem to do so well. She has continued to act. She's starred in over 60 films but most of them were made-for-TV movies. She's also had guest appearances on shows like Melissa & Joey and The L Word, but nothing major enough to seriously put her back on our radars. But have the other actors from Saved by the Bell done that well? Only Mario Lopez continues to be a household name and common feature on our screens.
9 Alicia Silverstone
Alicia Silverstone was an icon in the 90's. Her role as Cher in the legendary 1995 film Clueless is what really put her on the map. We do remember the character of Cher and the outfits of course, but Silverstone just isn't around anymore. Back in the 90's she had other prominent roles for example in Batman & Robin (1997). But after the 90's she starred in TV movies and did voice work and appeared in TV series that you never heard of. It's a shame really because Clueless was so big. She just hasn't had the kind of work that would keep her on the A-List. For example, one of her more recent gigs was in the 2016 film King Cobra alongside Molly Ringwald, an actor that had her heyday in the 80's. What does that tell you?
8 Andrew Keegan
Andrew Keegan is like the poster boy for the 90's. He was in so many popular shows including Baywatch, Party of Fie, 7th Heaven and Boy Meets World. He was also in one of the biggest movies of the decade10 Things I Hate About You (1999) with Julia Styles and Heath Ledger. Keegan definitely has one of those recognizable faces. But in the 2000s he stopped landing major gigs, just small parts on TV. What's he doing now? Well, he founded a spiritual movement called Full Circle in 2014, the mission of which is "to activate community through a curation of heart-centered, spirited programming that creates space for authentic connection." Reporters who have visited the church or spoken to its members are none the wiser to what it's actually about. Though it seems like something of a hipster thing. Okay…
7 Jonathan Taylor Thomas
Jonathan Taylor Thomas, also known as JTT was something of a heartthrob for tweens back in the day. He was like the Justin Bieber of the 90's. He acted from the age of 8 but got a big role, voicing Simba in The Lion King (1994) when he was 13. He was in the major sitcom Home Improvement at the same time. But he fell off the radar when he left the show in 1998 to pursue an education. After that he did some voice acting and got small parts on shows like 8 Simple Rules. Though he did get his degrees from Harvard and Columbia. So it wasn't like he was wasting his time when he stepped out of the limelight. His most recent gig was as a guest star on Tim Allen's Last Man Standing a couple of years ago.
6 Brittany and Cynthia Daniel
Brittany and Cynthia Daniel got their fame when they starred in the 90's series Sweet Valley High, a teen drama based on a series of books. Would you believe the show finished 20 years ago! Blimey, we're old! Anyway, Britanny was the one who continued her acting career so we haven't seen Cynthia at all since SVH. Cynthia is a photographer now and has a family with her actor husband Cole Hauser. While Brittany has been in shows like BET's The Game. Something they do together is run their Instagram account "The Twin Travelers" where they document their adventurous lives. So they've gone from being teen stars in the 90's to Instagram influencers - seems about right, doesn't it? They're both in their early 40s now and are really beautiful, that's something that hasn't changed!
5 Freddie Prinze Jr.
Freddie Prinze Jr. is another actor who was mega famous and a heartthrob in the 90's. His first major role was in the horror flick I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997) and he starred in the rom-com She's All That (1999). But thereafter, the films he starred in such as Down to You (2000) and Summer Catch (2001) just bombed and that's what seemingly set the ball rolling in the wrong direction for Prinze Jr. Even though the Scooby-Doo films which he starred in were successful, his performance wasn't. So, that's what happened to him. Nowadays he's still married to fellow 90's star Sarah Michelle Gellar and he has also released a cookbook, which is something you wouldn't really expect from the former movie star! At least he's found something to occupy his time.
4 Mara Wilson
Mara Wilson starred in the 1996 film Matilda when she was a little kid. Matilda was another one of those iconic films that we all loved when we were younger. Wilson had other starring roles in Mrs. Doubtfire (1993) and Miracle on 34th Street (1994) before she was in the film we know her from most. But she gave up acting to pursue writing in 2000 and that's why we don't hear much of Matilda, I mean Mara Wilson anymore. Perhaps, it's one of those Harry Potter type things where the actors find it hard to get away from their most iconic role as they grow up. Because Wilson did start to see rejection before she gave up on acting at only 12 or 13 years old. Nowadays, she's still writing and feels that storytelling is her calling.
3 Selma Blair
Selma Blair became a big star towards the end of the 90's. Her major role was in Cruel Intentions (1999), in which she played an innocent young girl receiving her awakening. She was also in the sitcom Zoe, Duncan, Jack & Jane which further elevated her fame. But after the 90's she was never the biggest star in whatever she was featured in, as she was previously. She was never as famous as she was in her early days and that's why we have sort of overlooked her despite Blair being on our TV screens. She had some success in her role in Charlie Sheen's Anger Management but was written out of the show amid rumors that there were feuds between her and sheen. Most recently she played Kris Jenner in the TV series American Crime Story and she was good but didn't really get much screen time.
2 Skeet Ulrich
Skeet Ulrich was in some of the best films that came out of the 90's. The first of which being Scream (1996), a seminal film of the 90's. He was also in The Craft the same year which was definitely a cult success. So he was set to be a big star and household name. So what happened? He got married to actress Georgina Cates and they decided to leave Hollywood in 2001 and move to a farm outside of Charleston. That's why you saw nothing of Ulrich after his success in the 90's. Though he did make a TV comeback in 2008 starring in post-apocalyptic drama Jericho and then Law & Order: L.A. a couple of years later. It's not quite the same as his movie success though is it? Where might he be now if he hadn't quit Hollywood?
1 Danielle Fishel
You'll know Danielle Fishel from her role as Topanga in Boy Meets World which started in 1993. She played that part right up until 2000 which is when she vanished from our TV screens. She only appeared on TV rarely after that and in small roles. So what has she been up to? She went back to college late and graduated in 2012. But she returned to TV recently to play Topanga in the spinoff Girl Meets World on the Disney Channel. Maybe she just really loved that character and didn't want to seriously commit to something else. And in 2014 she released her memoir, "Normally, This Would be Cause for Concern: Tales of Calamity and Unrelenting Awkwardness," so that's how you can find out what she's been up to all these years, if you really want to.
