Celebrities are used to dressing up and being glamorous in front of cameras, but every now and then, a star gets caught doing something wrong and their picture is taken at the police station. Celebrity mugshots expose the raw, unedited version of famous people at some of their lowest points. Some stars decide to embrace the moment and flash a smile, while others stare dreadfully into the camera. As if doing something illegal and being arrested wasn't embarrassing enough for celebrities, the fact that there is photographic evidence floating around makes it that much worse. Unflattering paparazzi photos are nothing compared to a mugshot. Celebrities are usually far from camera ready when they get busted, and most of them look like a hot mess in what is usually the most well-known picture of them.

13 Shailene Woodley

Shailene Woodley may not strike you as the type of person to get arrested, but she's happy to risk it all to stand up for what she believes in. The young actress was charged with criminal trespassing and engaging in a riot when she joined hundreds of protesters as they fought against the Dakota Access Pipeline. She live streamed her arrest on Facebook and the video was widely watched. Shailene released a public statement after the fact that expressed her desire to support Native Americans and our environment. She has no regrets and hopes her arrest helped bring attention to the possible issues associated with the pipeline. Shailene does slightly regret the face she made in her mugshot though. She admitted to Stephen Colbert on the Late Show that would have tried to look better had she known it would go viral. Compared to other celebrity mugshots, Shailene's isn't bad at all.

12 Shia LaBeouf

Shia LaBeouf definitely took a turn for the weird after his Disney star fame fizzled out. He has been arrested a few times, but his first mugshot is classic. His creepy smile in the photo makes it a hard mugshot to forget. Shia was arrested the first time for trespassing at a Walgreens, and reportedly gave police officers a fake name even though they recognized him from the Transformers movies. Soon after, the actor was back at the police station for driving drunk and trying to drag race. Shia has had many other altercations as well, including the time he threatened a paparazzi, the time he got into a bar fight, and the time he made a fan who asked for his autograph cry. Needless to say, there will likely be more Shia mugshots in the future. We just hope he doesn't get caught up in too much trouble.

Justin Bieber went from adorable pop star to certified bad boy fairly quickly. The singer made headlines when his mugshot was released, and his giant smile made it clear that he had no concerns about getting arrested. 19 year old Justin was caught by police when he was drag racing a rented Lamborghini in Miami. He was also reportedly drunk and on some other illegal substances during the incident and admitted to consuming alcohol, smoking, and taking prescription drugs. He was charged with a DUI, resisting arrest without violence, and driving without a valid license. We all know that the singer's career was hardly impacted by his arrest. If anything, he's become even more successful since then. Justin had also gotten in trouble for throwing eggs at a neighbor's house, urinating on public property, and attempting to be a graffiti artist, just to name a few. We're hoping he grows up soon.

10 Amanda Bynes

Amanda Bynes is yet another child star who turned out to be a hot mess as an adult. Her mugshot is iconic mainly due to her pink hair and sad smirk. We had a few clues before her arrest that she was going downhill, but getting charged with a DUI was the start of a string of bad decisions Amanda made that year. She was arrested for driving drunk and hitting a police car who was waiting at an intersection. Not soon after, she was back in jail, this time for an even crazier incident. Amanda was booked for possession of illegal substances, tampering with evidence, and reckless endangerment after she threw a bong out of her apartment window which was 36 stories high. She continued to struggle and ended up being diagnosed as bipolar with manic depressive disorder. After therapy and medication, it looks like Amanda is in a good place and hasn't gotten into any legal trouble recently.

Lindsay Lohan may be more famous for her arrests than for her acting career. The actress was definitely talented, but her personal life got in the way of her success. Lindsay's first arrest was for a DUI in 2007 where she crashed her car and police found lots of booze and drugs in her vehicle. Two more times that year she was charged with possession of an illegal substance and wound up getting sentenced to 1 day in prison, of which she completed 84 minutes before she was removed due to overcrowding. Lindsay's legal troubles were far from over - she repeatedly failed to comply with judge's orders and wound up back in court numerous times. She had to go to jail for 2 weeks in 2010 for failing to attend court ordered alcohol education courses and ended up back in jail a few months later for violating probation. Lindsay continues to get into occasional legal trouble.

8 Chace Crawford

Chace Crawford surprised Gossip Girl fans when he got arrested and his mugshot was released back in 2010. The pretty boy actor wasn't being too reckless, but he was caught with the green herb while he was in a parked car with his friend outside of a bar in Texas. According to police records, he had less than 2 ounces of it on him and it seems like he was cooperative. He got released after a few hours. He struck a plea deal and the whole incident was wiped off his record after a year with no legal trouble. The actor has been relatively under the radar these days with both his personal life and acting career. It's likely that we won't be seeing another Chace Crawford arrest. As far as mugshots go, Chace faired pretty well. He looks like he was taking the matter seriously, and looks pretty hot in the picture.

Tiger Woods used to be the most respected professional golfer, but these days, his personal scandals are what he's most known for. After news broke about his numerous affairs, Tiger's reputation was destroyed, and it made it a lot less shocking when he got arrested this year. He was found by police sleeping in his car which looked like it had been in a few accidents earlier. His car was on, his right turn signal was flashing, and his seatbelt was on while he was sleeping on the wheel. Police had to physically wake him up, and he seemed very confused when he realized what had happened. Tiger claims that alcohol was not involved, and thinks he had a reaction to prescribed drugs that made him fall asleep at the wheel. He has been taking medicine to help him with his injured back. Hopefully, Tiger doesn't drive while on that medication again.

6 Nick Carter

Nick Carter made headlines when he got arrested early last year after getting into a bar fight in Key West, Florida. Apparently, after he got aggressive with other people at the bar, he was asked to leave, but refused and then assaulted the bouncer, Skylar Carden. Skylar claims Nick choked him and tried to hit him several times. Nick was ultimately given a misdemeanor battery charge. Skylar then continued to file a lawsuit against the Backstreet Boy, but the case was dropped. Nick has opened up to the media about his arrest, and admits that it was a mistake he hopes he can learn from. He also said that the events were a wake up call. He decided to focus on the positive things in his life, like becoming a father. Nick says being a dad will help him become a better man, and we're hoping it keeps him out of jail too.

Reese Witherspoon was America's sweetheart, and definitely not a trashy celebrity, which is why many of us were shocked when we found out about her arrest. Reese was arrested with her husband, Jim Toth, after Jim got pulled over for driving suspiciously. He apparently smelled like alcohol and failed the breathalyzer test. After realizing the police were taking her husband to jail, Reese freaked out on the cops. She thought being a celebrity was going to get them out of this mess, and reportedly asked the officers if they knew who she was several times, implying that she was too famous to be put in handcuffs. She then resisted arrest, but the cops were able to get her to the station where she was charged with disorderly conduct. Needless to say, fans were appalled by her behavior, and Reese publicly apologized for being a rude diva to police officers.

It may surprise you to learn that Patrick Stump, lead singer of punk rock band Fall Out Boy, has been arrested. Don't worry, he didn't do anything too disappointing! In 2009, Patrick was taken into custody and of course, a mugshot was taken, after he was caught driving without a valid driver's license in California. He was charged with a misdemeanor offense and released after 4 hours once he posted $15,000 for his bail. Patrick wasn't too riled up after the fact. He admits that he didn't even know he was breaking the law by using an Illinois driver's license but says ignorance shouldn't keep him from paying the consequences. He also said that his mother was certainly going to be pissed about the incident. We hope she forgave him pretty quickly - it was an honest mistake after all. The musician has stayed out of legal trouble since then.

Khloe Kardashian is another celebrity who decided to smile in her famous mugshot. Back in 2007, Khloe had gotten pulled over for driving while intoxicated. She wound up getting charged with a DUI, but only spent 4 hours in jail due to overcrowding. The whole situation was filmed on Keeping Up with the Kardashians, and most fans will remember the scene where Kim is taking selfies in the car while the family is driving Khloe to the courthouse. As far as mugshots go, Khloe looks pretty good in hers, although she definitely looks mischievous. Unlike most families, the Kardashians apparently find the whole incident amusing. Hotel security guards reportedly found him in his bathroom with drugs and called the police. Officers found him with 2.6 grams of the white stuff. Despite his wide smile in his mugshot, Bruno says he took the arrest seriously. Bruno was apparently so intoxicated at the time of his arrest that he lied about his drug use to officers unintentionally. He claims he learned an important lesson from his arrest - that it doesn't matter how successful you are, you can lose it all quickly by making a bad decision. Bruno says he tries to forget the whole ordeal and is focusing on being better. Since then, his career has continued to grow and he hasn't gotten involved in any legal issues.

Paris Hilton's 2007 mugshot is one the most famous ones of them all. She's managed to pose for every mugshot she's taken, typically with her head slightly tilted and with a subtle smile. She first got arrested for driving drunk and was charged with a DUI. She was later caught driving way past the speed limit with a suspended license. Despite trying desperately to fight it in court, Paris wound up in jail for 23 days, which she describes as a traumatic experience. Her arrest contributed to the Simple Life ending, but she remained a relevant celebrity. A few years later, she was also arrested for drug possession. Although she has said she will stay out of trouble, it's pretty likely that we will see another Paris Hilton mugshot in the future, and it's also likely that she'll be striking the same pose.
