14 Celeb Break Ups We Will Never Get Over
Break ups are hard, even harder if you are a celebrity. Imagine having press coverage every time you move on (willingly or otherwise) from a relationship. Imagine having the entire world go through it with you. Fans can be intense and feel the pain their fav celebrity feels. That is true about our latest list, celebrity break ups we will never get over. It's almost like we have also lost a part of ourselves, like we were the ones who were actually in the relationship. As crazy as it may seem, we were there (again, thanks to the media) for the ups and downs and the lines between reality and fantasy can blur, making us feel a special connection with a celebrity couple. We act like we had them over for Easter brunch last year and are devastated they won't be coming back as a couple this year. We don't want to see them with someone else! They were perfect for each other!
With the drama of Hollywood, we want to know that true love prevails and that there are people who really can have it all. We live vicariously through them and when they fail, we fail. We see their movies, we hear their interviews, we watch their children grow up, we are like the protective old grandparents that just want them to find happiness and our hearts break when we feel they have lost it. Never mind the fact that we don't actually know anything about these relationships or the truth behind the break up. But that won't stop us from pretending like we do, and giving our opinions in our latest gossip rant with our friends. Whatever the reason for the demise, these couples will always hold a special place in our hearts.
14 Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling
We all fell in love with this onscreen couple and we're thrilled when it moved into the offscreen realm. They were Hollywood's sweethearts and everyone imagined they'd live this fairy tale life, straight out of The Notebook (although that film can't really be classified as a fairy tale, it gets a little heavy… ) They'd get married, have gorgeous babies, and practically die in each other's arms after decades of marital bliss. Art did not mirror life in this case. We were sorry to see these celebs uncouple and go their separate ways. Hopefully they've at least stayed friends; a world without their chemistry is no world to live in.
13 Julia Roberts and Benjamin Bratt
First of all, gorgeous people just shouldn't be allowed to date eachother. Time to spread those amazing genes around. Julia Roberts and Ben Bratt seemed perfect together. With their dashing good looks, humble, borderline shy personalities, the two seemed to compliment one another well. Maybe that's where things went wrong, they were too similar. It's true that opposites attract and no one wants to be in an always agreeable partnership; strong relationships should have a little spice to go with the sugar, pushing the other to broaden their horizons. Both stars have moved on, but this once power couple will be missed.
12 Kourtney Kardashian and Scott Disick
What we can't get over about this couple was that they were ever a couple in the first place. By all accounts, Kourtney is the "normal" Kardashian. Flying low when she can, spending as much time as possible with her children and living a modest life compared to her sisters. How did Disick keep himself in the running for so long? We feel for her and can understand why this relationship will be missed. Splitting with your baby daddy is never easy, and while they came into fame and did a lot of growing together, this relationship has reached its expiration date. I'm fairly positive the world is happy about that.
11 Heidi Klum and Seal
Heidi and Seal managed to stay together for a length of time most celebs only dream about. Once you make it past a certain breaking point (which in the real world is known as the seven year itch, but fast tracks to three years if you're famous) the world puts you on the relationship pedestal. Been together more than three years? Then we expect you to stay together forever. And I'll just come out and say what we are all thinking, how in the world did Seal get Heidi Klum in the first place? I have some guesses, but I'll keep those to myself.
10 Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale
This was a match made in music heaven. Clearly the tours, recording sessions, and constant travel aren't conducive to long lasting love. Absence makes the heart grow fonder, or out of sight out of mind. It's up to you to decide which one. Even though they might be relieved it's over (particularly Gwen) some of us are still feeling the break up blues for them. The wounds have barely begun to heal and it's already on to the next! Guess we all have different grieving periods but after nearly 13 years with a man she believes was cheating on her, Gwen probably couldn't wait to cut her losses.
9 Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt
Of course this is the break up we will never get over, did you expect any different? This will ALWAYS be the number one most depressing split. If ever there was Hollywood royalty, they were it. Everyone looked up to them, everyone wanted to be them. They were almost too pretty together, it was doomed from the start; no two people that good looking can be in a room together for any length of time. Whatever the real reason for the split, the heart of every human broke for the two when they announced their divorce. While they have seemed to put it all behind them, we will never forget the joy that once was Jen and Brad.
8 Sandra Bullock and Jesse James
Honestly, we're glad this is over, we knew she was too good for him, but the one thing we'll never get over? Sandra Bullock having her heart broken. Sandra (because we are on a first name basis in my mind) is one of those celebs that you want to grab a beer with. You know she'd be down to Earth, funny, laid back, and friendly. Rare for Hollywood. She's been in the business for decades and it seemed she had truly found happiness and was settling down. Unfortunately (or fortunately) things don't always go as planned. She'll find someone deserving. If she can't, what hope do the rest of us have?
7 Robyn Gibson and Mel Gibson
31 years. Do you know how rare it is for anyone, let alone a celebrity, to be in a marriage that long? After 31 years of marriage, Mel Gibson cheated on his wife. At the time of this scandal he still had a decent reputation in Hollywood and this news shocked everyone. Can you imagine being with someone, supporting them throughout their career, giving birth to multiple children, all so he could throw it all away? The world was stunned when this news broke and it was genuinely sad… that is, until Mel completely lost his mind. Then we all thought, "Thank God she got out when she did". Karma.
6 Diane Lane and Josh Brolin
Nine years of marriage is nothing to turn your nose up to, in today's society people plan for their divorce while planning for their marriage. These two seemed to have it all, which was clearly not the case. Just like any other relationship, they had their share of problems and were relatively quiet about it all. We loved the idea of them together, a Goonie and a starlet, and were sorry to see them part ways. Whenever anyone makes it to the almost ten year mark, we root for them, for ourselves and our own lives just as much as theirs. While it looks like the two are better apart, this is a Hollywood couple we will miss seeing together.
5 Rhea Perlman and Danny DeVito
How bad do you want to go watch Matilda right now? These two were a couple in every sense of the word. They worked together, they lived together, had children together, they were what every Hollywood couple aspired to be, but like other couples, were not immune to the Hollywood pitfalls either. It seemed the romance seemed to fizzle out after so long of being together and they let things fade away. They announced their separation, much to everyone's dismay, but then there was a light at the end of the tunnel. Seems DeVito realized just how much Perlman meant to him and the two were reportedly giving it another shot. Hopefully it works out because we can't take all this back and forth!
4 Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck
Are they or aren't they? They can't play with our emotions like this! Sadly, yes, it does seem the couple is officially moving on. They had a good run, ten years of marriage and children together, but just couldn't make it stick. Does anyone stay together anymore? Splitting up is always hard, but more so when there are children involved. The two seem to put whatever marital disputes they had on the back burner and have remained friends to be able to parent with one another, which is more than other Hollywood divorced celebs can say. While we absolutely loved them and the family they created, at least they are civil in their separation which makes things all the easier.
3 Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin
After ten years of 'wedded bliss' and two kids, this couple finally decided to call it quits. Of course, one person wants it to last more than the other, and Chris Martin seemed to have a hard time letting go, letting months pass before he could bring himself to sign the divorce papers. We feel ya, Chris. These two seemed to stay out of the limelight for the most part and focused on their marriage and raising their children. Perhaps that's why the divorce announcement came as such a shock, there weren't any indications this was coming. However, the two seem to have banned together for the sake of their children, even going on vacations as a family. While it is hard to move on from this one, some people are just better off as friends.
2 Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins
This split happened in 2009 and it's still one of the saddest Hollywood break ups to date. The couple spent 23 years together, nearly a Hollywood lifetime. These two are such incredibly talented, humble people and it was nice to see them find each other. Like most lengthy unions that end in divorce, nothing in particular happened. They became accustomed to one another, taking things for granted and it lead them to re-examine their marriage and if it was still the right choice for them, after all these years. As shocking as this break up was/is, it does seem the two are in a better place now.
1 Amy Poehler and Will Arnett
This breaks my heart and shakes my soul. The only thing worse than this would be if Amy Poehler and Tina Fey decided to call it quits. Poehler and Arnett's union was comedy gold and their parting ways is incredibly sad. The two gave it a good go but unfortunately some things just aren't meant to be. What's even harder about this separation is that the two really seemed to love each other but just didn't know how to make it work. They've been incredibly private about their divorce, and rightfully so, as the pair are choosing to focus on their children during this difficult time. This was a break up that seemed to blindside the world and we hope the two are able to find what they are looking for.
