15 Celeb Besties That Wish They Were Famous

When you're living that Hollywood life, it can be hard to find solid friends that you can count on no matter what. The lifestyles of the rich and the famous are well known for being shallow AF, and so it can be difficult for big stars to keep friends that they can count on instead of those who are just along for the ride while the money is good.

On this list we have 15 celeb besties who wish they were famous, but that doesn't necessarily mean they're using their BFFs for their own personal gain. Some of the entries on this list have actual talent and have been lucky enough to see their friend rise to extreme levels of success (and maybe get a few magazine blurbs and expensive freebies in the process). These are the kinds of people your favorite celebs will probably always have around, because they've been there through thick and thin. Others are clearly just soaking up their share of the limelight, which makes us wonder how true their friendship really is. From childhood BFFs to business partners, these are the not-so-famous friends of the most notable names in Hollywood!

15 Jamie Schneider (Nicole Richie)

It's no wonder Nicole Richie always looks so glam these past few years, since she's had help from celebrity stylist pal Jamie Schneider! While Jamie may not be a household name yet, she's definitely got the rest of the A-list at her beck and call, like when she had major stars Jessica Alba and Kate Hudson in attendance at her Aspen wedding this past April!

If the way to a man's heart is through his stomach, then the way to celebrity's is through their closet. Jamie obviously has talents of her own, which she has used to her advantage to create a to-die-for wardrobe, get invites to exclusive parties, and opportunities to dress some of Hollywood's best. While she's cozied up to a lot of A-listers, we know that she still counts Nicole Richie as a major BFF, even though she wasn't available to take her call for National Best Friends Day! (See here.)

14 Cheyne Thomas (Miley Cyrus)

Cheyne Thomas is definitely feeling the love from bestie Miley Cyrus! The famously flamboyant singer isn't shy about showing how much she loves her assistant-turned-BFF Cheyne in photographs of her giving him a playful kiss on the cheek during vacation or rocking out with him at the Jingle Ball. Their playful friendship has actually forced Miley to deny a romantic relationship between the two of them multiple times!

Working as a Starbucks barista before Miley snapped him up, Cheyne has proven his loyalty to his musician BFF by getting multiple matching tattoos with the singer, including a crude branding of the word “BIEWTY” - the phonetic spelling of “beauty” - which is made extra adorable since Miley's nickname for Cheyne is “Biew”! Cheyne's even willing to go for the jugular when it comes to protecting his BFF, including a sarcasm-fueled Twitter fight with fellow pop star Demi Lovato, when Demi seemed to insinuate that Miley was a fake friend!

13 Gayle King (Oprah)

Okay, Gayle King is pretty well known in her own right, but when your best friend is Oprah, you're always going to come in second place no matter what. After 40 years of friendship, the super close duo have had to weather decades of unfair rumors suggesting that there was something more romantic afoot instead of an extremely tight girl-bond.

Honestly, these two are the stuff BFF dreams are made of - which is why it can be frustrating for them (and us) to have to deal with the continuous questions about their personal lives. Since neither woman is married (although Oprah has had a long, steady relationship with her boyfriend Stedman Graham), speculation has abounded. Gayle does have Oprah to thank for her modest amount of fame, however, as the editor-at-large for O, The Oprah Magazine and co-host of CBS's This Morning. That's further than a lot of these other celeb besties have come!

12 Johnny Wujek (Katy Perry)

With her killer curves, gorgeous voice, and hilarious attitude, Katy Perry can pretty much have any guy she wants. Except Johnny Wujek, that is, her former crush-turned-stylist. Before they became a match made in off-the-wall fashion heaven, Katy actually hit on Johnny at a party! The only catch? He wasn't interested - he's gay.

The pair have been friends since that party back in 2006, when Johnny was transitioning from being a male model to working in fashion. While Katy is mind-bogglingly famous, Johnny's career is nothing to sniff at: he was handpicked by Tyra Banks as a creative consultant and photo shoot guide on America's Next Top Model. With so much fame and fashion between them, Johnny credits loyalty and honesty as being the keys to keeping their friendship solid. While the two make regular appearances on each other's Instagram, on the red carpet, and in extravagant music videos, Johnny says they do what every other pair of normal best friends do during their down time: watch movies and eat junk food!

11 Alexa Luria (Ariana Grande)

While BFF Ariana Grande has taken the pop music world by storm, BFF Alexa Luria has been more than happy to come along for the ride! The two have been friends since they were 10, and are so close they've begun to look like twins! Alexa (also known as Lexie) has been able to take advantage of the perks offered by Ariana's newfound fame, including tagging along to awards shows and showing up in her friend's music videos.

The feeling of pride and total friendship love is mutual, though - when Alexa was accepted to the college of her choice, Ariana tweeted that she was “so proud” of her bestie. In fact, like Miley Cyrus, Ariana even got a tattoo honoring their ride-or-die friendship: the letter 'A' on her thumb, for the initial both girls share. It looks like it would be a lot of work to keep up with Rihanna, since the famous bad girl is notorious for partying and touring, but it's nothing her BFF Melissa Forde can't handle! The two have been childhood friends since they were kids in Barbados, and Melissa is always ready to go along for the ride with Rihanna as a solid member of her entourage.

While a lot of celebrity BFFs are childhood friends or hangers-on with no discernible talent, Melissa is actually an avid photographer, often getting behind the camera for RiRi's Insta feed (check the hashtag #MTFPhotography). That's one way to be sure that only fire photos of you get seen! More evidence of Melissa's solid loyalty to her pal? Her willingness to get into Twitter fights with Rihanna enemies Ciara and Karrueche Tran. Hey, it's a small price to pay to score those front row seats at Fashion Week!

9 Ryan Silverstein & OB O'Brien (Drake)

If the guys who aren't Drake in the photo look familiar, it's because they've appeared in Drake's videos, including the super-Canadian-shot “Started From the Bottom”. Ryan Silverstein (right) is actually Drake's cousin as well as his assistant, and the two grew up together before he became a member of the rapper's OVO crew. OB O'Brien is a rapper in his own right, and he regularly does work with Drake in addition to appearing as “the bearded guy” in many of his videos.

Ryan was able to use Drake and his growing Instagram fame (the guy is definitely a looker) to catapult him into the public eye and he even had a relationship with Pretty Little Liars actress, Shay Mitchell (which ended in 2014). While all three guys have been friends for ages, as Drake's popularity grows, we wouldn't be surprised to see Ryan and O'Brien tag along to see what their BFF's success brings them as well!

8 Laura Simpson (Jennifer Lawrence)

It was Laura Simpson who was getting married, but all eyes were on her maid of honor, Oscar winner and celebrity BFF Jennifer Lawrence. It seems that the biggest moments of their lives are shared by this pair, including when Laura famously caught JLaw as her friend took a tumble on the red carpet at the 2014 Oscars (not the first time, and definitely not the last).

The gorgeous duo have been friends for almost a decade, when they met at an event where neither of them knew anyone. Laura revealed in a MySpace post that the two bonded over a mutual respect for Chandler Bing, and have been eating pizza together ever since! The funny ladies aren't shy about teasing one another, either: After her much-publicized newfound friendship with comedian Amy Schumer, Laura called into the Today show to ask Jen who her real best friend was! Fortunately for Laura, her BFF reassured her that she will always be her “sausage”.

7 Cacee Cobb (Jessica Simpson)

Another childhood best friend, Cacee Cobb began working as an assistant to her famous BFF, Jessica Simpson, making regular appearances on her friend's MTV reality show Newlyweds. The two have been close for decades, and seem to have passed on their best friendship to their kids, too! Jessica has posted photos of her son, Ace, playing with Cacee's son, Rocco, as well as her daughter Maxwell holding Cacee's daughter, Wilder. (Jess is godmother to little Wilder.)

If Cacee's name rings a dim bell, it's probably because she's been a bit of a tabloid staple for years, thanks to getting an increased level of fame from her 2012 marriage to Scrubs actor Donald Faison (for the record, Jess was maid of honor). That seems to be it for Cacee, who after working as Jess's personal assistant didn't do much else to get in with the rest of Hollywood, instead she was content to settle down to a life of domestic bliss with her hubby and kids!

Even before getting entangled with the Kardashian-Jenner clan, Shamari Maurice was making a name for himself in the social media world as a veritable star. His relationship with the famous family just sped things up! As a model, social media hotshot, and actor, Shamari is the kind of 2016 triple threat that makes up so many other young influencers in our Insta-world.

You can't deny that the guy takes a killer selfie, though! It makes sense that the social media star would know that the Kardashians can only help his brand and image, and so combining their star power with his photogenic looks makes for some truly dynamite selfie situations. His famous connection helped catapult him to Instagram, Twitter, and Snapchat fame, while his tightness with Kylie helped him get into the inner circles of hotties Sofia Richie and Hailey Baldwin. You KNOW this guy knows exactly what he's doing! Work it!

5 Malika Haqq (Khloe Kardashian)

If you're a regular viewer of Keeping Up With the Kardashians (and any other Kardashian-related TV offering), you've probably seen Khloe's BFF Malika Haqq appear on-screen a few times! Now working as a model and actress (sort of), Malika is another celeb BFF who worked as her friend's personal assistant before the two had a falling-out (because, duh, who wants to put their dreams on hold to wait on their friend?).

Malika has been in Khloe's inner circle since the two were around 15, and she invited her identical twin sister to join the fold! Malika has solidly been there for all of Khloe's ups and downs, especially when she was dealing with all of her Lamar Odom drama. Although Malika left her assistant job to focus on acting, she hasn't really done all that much since, instead choosing to appearing in Kardashian-sponsored spin-offs and attend high-profile events like Kim and Kanye's wedding. It seems talent (or lack of) runs in the family-friend!

4 Lo Bosworth (Lauren Conrad)

Lo Bosworth was a regular star during Laguna Beach and The Hills in the early '00s, but it seemed even then that her average life and drama-free personality just didn't make for good TV, so she got shunted aside in favor of more profitable televised blow-ups (see: Audrina Patridge and Justin Bobby, Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt).

While her BFF Lauren Conrad has revamped herself into this generation's Martha Stewart and fashion house head in Beverly Hills, Lo is living a bit more quietly in New York, running a podcast called Lady Lovin', which focuses on issues like relationships, health and wellness, and business - all in the name of female empowerment. We don't see much of this blonde best friend pairing lately, but we do know that Lo was a bridesmaid at Lauren's 2014 wedding, so we think these two are still going strong, even if their career trajectories don't quite match up.

3 Lil Twist (Justin Beiber)

Credited with turning Justin Bieber into a bad boy, rapper Lil Twist certainly got a bigger name for himself due to his famous friendship rather than his sick rhymes. The two have been friends since 2010, and were basically inseparable for all of 2012 when Lil Twist stayed at Justin's side for vacations, parties, and in his fleet of cars.

Unfortunately, it was not to last forever. Lil Twist seems to still be thirsty for attention from the Biebs, and while the two released a song in 2015, nothing happened with it - fine for Justin, crushing for Lil Twist. While Justin was forced to make public apologies for his ongoing out-of-control behavior, Twist has just kept the whole thing up, including being charged with felony breaking and entering, assault, and stealing. (As of December 1, 2016, Lil Twist was sentenced to a year in prison for his crimes.) Lil Twist, it might be too late now to say sorry.

2 Abigail Anderson (Taylor Swift)

The original T-Swift BFF before there was any #squad, Abigail Anderson has been Taylor's right hand girl since the two met in freshman year on the first day of school in English class. Abigail went to school on a swimming scholarship, but her most famous feat is definitely being the BFF of Taylor Swift.

Through social media (Taylor makes a regular appearance in Abigail's Insta snaps), to chilling with the rest of the genetically-blessed, Taylor-sanctioned girl squad, Abigail is the one of the most definitive hangers-on best friends of a celebrity. Taylor has even mentioned her BFF by name in her hit song 'Fifteen', and included Abigail in six of her music videos! ('Picture to Burn', 'Fifteen', 'Teardrops on My Guitar', '22', 'I'm Only Me When I'm With You', and 'New Romantics' in case you were wondering.) If Kanye made Taylor famous, then it's undeniable that Taylor made Abigail famous!

1 Jonathan Cheban (Kim Kardashian)

You've probably heard about Jonathan Cheban, Kim Kardashian's BFF, before, because he's the type of guy who never shuts up about himself. In fact, in a display of epic shading, Martha Stewart called out Jonathan's inflated ego when she was seated next to him at an event by posting a photo of him on Twitter, with the question, “Do you know this guy?? He says he is well known.” Burn!

In reality, Jonathan is a reality “star” and founder of the website TheDishh.com, but he's more talked about for his relationship wit the members of the Kardashian family, specifically Kim. At any opportunity, Jonathan will spill the beans on his famous friend in order to keep the spotlight firmly fixated on him. While we're sure he's loyal to his BFF (he did rush to her side after her Paris robbery), we wonder if that's out of a solid friendship or a desire to keep climbing up that social ladder.
