15 Celeb Clothing Items Worth More Than You Think
There are some celebrity outfits that are so stunning that you know as soon as you see them that they cost more than your house. Dresses you see on the red carpet, for example, are obviously out of your price range most of the time. Okay, okay, all of the time. But you would be totally shocked by the fact that the clothes worn by famous people which seem a little more ordinary are actually super expensive! You can't always tell just by looking from afar, and that maxi dress you're admiring on your favorite star that you want to emulate at the next music festival might actually cost upwards of $5,000! It isn't just celebrity clothes that will surprise you either! Bags, shoes, jewelry and even manicures worn by celebrities are also usually a fair bit pricier than they look. To settle everybody's curiosity, here are 15 celebrity clothing items worth way more than you think.
15 Miranda Kerr's Vince Cardigan
This knit cardigan worn by Australian model Miranda Kerr probably isn't going to turn any heads… until those heads hear that it's worth $498! That might not be worth more than your house, but it's a little more than we're used to paying for a simple cardigan. Miranda wore this over her thin, cotton dress to help warm her up at LAX in the spring of 2015. The Isabel Marant dress is worth $198, which doesn't seem like very much in comparison! We love the look on her, but now that we know how much a basic cardigan can set you back, we get why we can never manage to look quite as chic as a Victoria's Secret Model! Especially on planes, where we usually opt for comfort over style. The chunky cardigan does look super cozy, though, so perhaps splurging on some really good knitwear once a season might do some good.
14 Selena Gomez's Saint Laurent Heels
These Obsidian Saint Laurent heels worn by former Disney star, Selena Gomez, are definitely gorgeous, but at $695, they're slightly beyond our price range for the time being. It's not that $695 is an obscene amount of money, but it just doesn't really spring to mind when you first look at the pair of strappy-but-subtle shoes. Especially when most of us have a similar-looking pair sitting in our closets right now that we got for under $300! Seeing price tags like this on shoes makes you wonder whether paying more than $600 for designer brands means at least your feet will be comfortable all night, or whether expensive heels hurt just as much as cheapies. It might be worth saving up for a pair of Saint Laurents to find out! The shoes do bring a little something to Selena's outfit here, though, and we're loving the all-black look she has going on.
13 Beyoncé's Manicure
Okay, we've arrived at Queen Bey here so whatever we're talking about is bound to be a little extravagant. But the thing is, we're talking about the gold manicure she wore in her out-of-this-world promotional material for The Mrs Carter Show World Tour in 2013, and it was reportedly worth $850. For nails! Hearing that kind of money makes us want to hide our $60 acrylic-and-shellac manicures in our pockets. Basically, Beyoncé's nails are totally beyond the capabilities of your average nail salon. They were created by a brand called H&H, which bring together unique jewelry design and glamorous makeup artistry to achieve nail perfection! Each nail was shaped into stiletto-like sharp points, and fitted with 3D metal accessories. That brought each of Bey's nails to the cost of $85. You can't deny that she looks fierce, but if the manicure cost $850, imagine how much the clothes, shoes, and jewelry cost!
12 Kendall Jenner's Linda Farrow Aviators
If you're part of the Kardashian/Jenner clan, anything you wear is pretty much guaranteed to be top of the range and fabulous. It's usually obvious when they step out in extravagant gowns, fur coats and shiny bling, but it's a little less obvious on accessories that don't catch your eye at first. These Linda Farrow aviators worn by Kris Jenner's second-youngest daughter, Kendall, can be yours for $896 a pop. We have to hand it to her though because they totally complete her chic-rocker motif. Now, if we had a pair of sunnies worth nearly $900, we're pretty sure that we'd guard them with our lives, clean them five times a day and lock them away in a safe at all times. But Kendall is casually wearing them here, along with a few other crazily-priced accessories, on her way back from the gym. That's what you do when you're a Jenner!
11 Gwen Stefani's Saint Laurent Blouse
We love this Saint Laurent Blouse which Gwen rocked back in 2015, but it didn't seem that expensive at first glance. In fact, we kind of expected to be able to buy our own on a low-key shopping trip. As it turns out, we were wrong. That heart-print Saint Laurent blouse would actually set us back a casual $950, so as lovely as it is, we might have to give it a miss. Still, we love the way it looks on Gwen! The black and white is sophisticated and conventional, which is a welcome change from her usual rock vibe, but the hearts give it just the right amount of edge. Like a true businesswoman, Gwen incorporated a few pieces from her own L.A.M.B line into the look, including the heels and clutch. The blouse definitely complements the look, but honestly, we just can't get over that $950 price tag. We just can't.
10 Reese Witherspoon's Dolce & Gabbana Skirt
Reese Witherspoon's D&G peplum skirt might seem reasonably accessible to the general public, but that's only the case if you have $1,025 lying around to spend on it! She paired the floral skirt with her otherwise all-white outfit, and the color brings a needed pop of summery freshness, but does nothing for the affordability, as it were. This isn't the first time that the A-list actress has stepped out in a floral piece either, and she's definitely a fan of a skirt or two. This D&G isn't even the most expensive-looking of her skirts and dresses, so we're dying to know how much some of the others are going for. The rest of her look here wasn't exactly cheap either, with the white Milly blazer costing $425 and $545 for the wedges by Tabitha Simmons. She just makes the look appear so effortless and breezy that you'd never have any idea!
9 Rihanna's Jennifer Fisher Choker
How often do your accessories end up costing more than your outfit itself? That's what happened here with Rihanna's Jennifer Fisher choker, which cost $1,570. Pretty crazy! Meanwhile, the oversized tee by Greg Guillemin she's wearing only cost $62. This was out to a hot L.A. club, mind you, and we probably would have thrown on something that cost a little more than that. Her heels by Rupert Sanderson cost $975 too, which we totally wouldn't have been able to guess just by looking. But if our calculations are correct, Rihanna's ultra-expensive shoes plus the T-shirt that made her look that night, don't even add up to the cost of her choker! We must say that the bling definitely adds a touch of glam to the otherwise super casual look. That still doesn't mean that we'll be forking out that much money for one piece of jewelry any time soon.
8 Hilary Duff's Marco de Vincenzo Top
Celebrities rocking bright canary in the street is one of our favorite things ever, and Hilary Duff's top was no exception when she stepped out in New York in 2015. Though the color and the fringe is on the more opulent side of things, we did not expect the top alone to come in at $1,600! We can sort of understand it, seeing as Marco de Vincenzo was a designer for Fendi, and the tousled garment itself is beautiful. Did we mention how we feel about the color? Worn against Hilary's blonde, it's a pretty stunning sight that was bound to stop even the fastest New York traffic. Having said that, we won't be acquiring it for ourselves any time soon, although we're seriously inspired to find a cheap lookalike somewhere. It is a cool top and everything, but seriously! That price makes the $209 white Frame jeans seem excessively cheap.
7 North West's Balenciaga Boots
Technically, these boots belong to North's mom, Kim Kardashian, and they do look expensive. But they are reportedly worth $1,700, which is a considerable amount for something that a toddler is going to dress up in for fun! Kim shared the photo of her daughter in her shiny metallic Balenciaga boots on Instagram, along with the caption “Didn't think it would happen so soon… my baby girl stealing my shoes. At least she has good taste #Balenciaga." It's safe to say that we didn't have such good taste when we were North's age, and our dress-up costumes definitely didn't include such affluent and costly pieces! The designer boots seem to suit North already, though, even if they are taller than her. You can tell from the smile on her face and the sparkle in her eyes that it won't be long before she's sporting thigh-high Balenciaga boots like this for real!
6 Chrissy Teigen's Valentino Bag
Chrissy Teigen's Magda Butrym dress is stunning, and quite frankly, not that cheap either. One look at the intricate pattern of the mini dress, in addition to the way it clings beautifully to her body, and we kind of guessed that it was going to be up there in the $1,000-$2,000 range. In other words, we weren't surprised that it's worth $1,730. We were shocked, however, to learn that her white bag is actually Valentino, with a value of $2,345. In the world of designer bags, that price tag isn't majorly astronomical, but it just really caught us off guard. The dress is clearly the eye-catching piece of this ensemble, and the bag just blends in so flawlessly that you don't even really notice it! Chrissy chose this look for the Wimbledon tennis tournament in 2015, and if we had a Valentino bag that cost $2,345, we'd wear it there too.
5 Kate Bosworth's Etro Jacket
Coachella masquerades itself as a music festival, but it's really just an excuse for some of the hottest names in Hollywood to come up with some unique boho-inspired looks. You tend to assume that the outfits celebs wear out there in the sun wouldn't be that expensive, given that they're so likely to be totally ruined by the end of it, but that's not the case at all. Just look at this Etro jacket worn by Kate Bosworth to Coachella. It can be yours for a cool $3,165! The jacket does feature excessive embroidery, crochet, and beading detail, but we so did not expect a price tag like that when we first saw it. While we love the jacket, especially the way it spruces up her plain white dress, it doesn't seem like it's the most comfortable thing to wear while you're drinking on the grass and getting shoved in a mosh pit.
4 Kim Kardashian's Givenchy Coat
Here's a coat that actually does seem kind of expensive, but that's just because Kim Kardashian is wearing it. But it doesn't seem like $4,350, even after you hear it's Givenchy! Kim wore it at LAX in late November 2015, and it looks like it did a good job of keeping her warm from the approaching winter. The all-black does give the outfit a chic and classy vibe, but at the same time, the way it all blends together means that you don't really notice the coat enough at first glance to expect such a huge price tag. The rest of the ensemble is relatively casual (other than the Birkin!), and Kim is even rocking leggings! But for $625, we feel like these Alaïa leggings are also just out of our price range. There are some things you should consider paying more for, but plain black leggings aren't one of them.
3 Katy Perry's Lanvin Maxi
Another Coachella outfit that cost so much more than you'd think it would! When you first see this Lanvin maxi dress on Katy Perry, you almost feel like it's something you could totally pull off this coming summer. It's just a flowy strapless maxi with flip flops, right? That might be true, but this dress happens to ring in at $5,480. We know! We know! It definitely doesn't seem like that should be the case at all. To Katy's credit, the gown does look so much more comfortable than Kate Bosworth's Coachella jacket. We're still not sure we'd spend over $5,000 to ensure comfort for one festival, and we're utterly confident that we wouldn't need to. H&M can provide the goods when it comes to comfort, just fine. But then again, we aren't Katy Perry. As long as the singer felt good in her outfit (and she certainly looked good in it!), then the price tag is irrelevant.
2 Heidi Klum's Hermès Birkin
We all know that Birkins are expensive, but everybody's idea of expensive is different. $17,500 is probably well and truly beyond what most of us will be paying for a bag. That amount of money is even more than a lot of us would spend on a wedding dress for crying out loud! Supermodel Heidi Klum complemented her all-black outfit with a flash of bamboo green from her bag, and while she looks like the epitome of all things stylish, the average person isn't likely to be capable of even wrapping their minds around such a gigantic price for a bag. You can't deny that the bag is pretty amazing, though, and it's probably every girl's dream to one day own one. This particular Birkin was made especially for Heidi and features darker green handles for a little contrast. She's been photographed more than once with it, so we're pretty sure she's smitten!
1 Beyoncé's Engagement Ring
The top spot on our list must, of course, go to Beyoncé, who has sung about having a billion dollars in an elevator. She probably has endless outfits that are worth more than our life savings, but the one accessory that we still can't fathom is her enormous engagement ring. It is custom made by Lorraine Schwartz, 18 carats and just quietly, cost $5 million. It isn't the most expensive engagement ring of all time, but we're used to seeing Bey wear it so often that we just didn't expect it! The diamond has been validated as an exceptional, premium stone that's internally clear, and certainly steals away all the attention anytime Bey waves her hand in the air. When your partner is Beyonce, it probably takes a statement of that size to tie her down! We guess Jay did put a ring on it, and he did it perfectly.
