15 Cringiest TV Couples Of All Time
If there's one thing that you love, it's television. You adore curling up on the couch after a long day at work or spending a Friday night at home alone with Netflix or the latest episode of How To Get Away With Murder. Whether you're a girly girl who is a hopeless romantic or not, you can't help but enjoy watching characters that you've been watching since forever fall in love. Sometimes they work out, sometimes they don't, but for the most part, you're always happy to see what's going to happen next. But what about those TV couples who are really, really poorly matched? The ones who leave you shaking your head, wondering how these writers could possibly have thought that these people should date? These couples are enough to make you want to stop watching these shows and fast.
Here are 15 of the cringiest TV couples of all time. You just might find some of your favorites here… and you might change your mind about loving them!
15 Chuck And Blair On 'Gossip Girl'
Sure, everyone LOVES this couple… but do you really think they are good people?! Not exactly. The cringe-worthy thing about Chuck and Blair is that they spend so much time scheming and planning evil things, it is amazing that they even have any kind of relationship at all. It is kind of gross that Chuck does not realize for SO long that he and Blair should be together. It is also kind of gross that he hurts her more than anyone has ever hurt her before. Seriously, since Blair usually has a broken heart and it is all because of Chuck, that means that they should definitely stay away from each other. Yeah, they look really good together (mostly because they are such pretty people) and they may have some romantic scenes. But that does not mean that they actually belong together. They really don't. We know we went in strong with this one!
14 Asher And Bonnie On 'How To Get Away With Murder'
The WORST thing about this TV couple? The fact that they snuck around for so long. Why did they think that they should keep their romance a secret? That doesn't really make any sense. It's not like anyone on this show is a really good person. The fact that the characters are not good people is kind of the entire point and it's what keeps you watching. So there was zero reason for these two to keep things on the down low. What's even more cringe-worthy, though, is that they just seem awkward AF together. There is not tons of chemistry and it seems like they are using each other. After all, they have both been loners for most of the show and don't seem to have a lot of friends or even a real life. They're not known for having tons of people interested in them so it seems like they're only hooking up because no one else will. That's never a good reason to be together. Thankfully they saw the light and broke up.
13 Marissa And Oliver On 'The O.C.'
In a word, Oliver is CRAZY. Okay, so technically they're not a couple, but they basically behave like a couple so they count. He hates that she's with Ryan and is really jealous, which is never a good sign. They are cringe-inducing for sure because it's clear that he is totally manipulating her and trying to control her. He wants to turn her against the other people in her life and that's just not uncool. They meet cute in a therapist's office which is kind of a red flag… but not for Marissa apparently since she's attracted to him from the start. She may pretend that she's not into him and that she's happy to be dating Ryan and Ryan is the only character who seems to know that Oliver is seriously bad news. It's pretty obvious that if Oliver didn't try to end his life and get arrested, he and Marissa would date, so let's say they are an almost couple.
12 Rory And Logan On 'Gilmore Girls'
Sorry if you're Team Logan… but you should be Team Jess so it's probably time to figure that out. Let's face it, Rory and Logan are a TERRIBLE couple when you think about it. At first, it definitely seems like she likes him a lot more than he likes her, and that's never a good place to begin a relationship. You've definitely been there before and it sucks. The fact that Lorelai is not okay with their relationship and feels uncomfortable with Logan's wealth makes it even worse since you can bet that Lorelai will be thrilled when Rory finally finds the right guy. Logan never seems to support Rory and they never seem to be on the same page. Remember when he sends her a gift when he's away and she has NO idea what it is? That may be a super funny moment but it also proves how poorly matched they are. Plus there's the fact that he proposes at her Yale graduation and he should know that she's not going to jump into marriage. She wants to have a career first.
11 Lorelai And Jason On 'Gilmore Girls'
Oh man, are Jason and Lorelai a bad couple. It doesn't even make sure why they would even date in the first place. Come on Lorelai, you KNOW that you should always be with Luke and you should never date anyone else. Jason is SO WEIRD because he won't let Lorelai sleep in his bed. Or even in his room. Yes, really. He makes her sleep in a guest room because he claims that he can't possibly fall asleep if someone else is in the room. Um, that's super strange. That just proves that he can't possibly be in a real adult relationship. It's also kind of confusing that Lorelai agrees to it and sleeps over anyway. You would probably scream at him that he's being a weirdo and leave ASAP, right? But thankfully they don't end up together and she ends up with the right person (aka Luke). Phew.
10 Christopher And Sherry On 'Gilmore Girls'
Yup, Gilmore Girls had some really bad couples. Christopher and Sherry are cringe-worthy because they don't seem to be in love. They don't even really seem to love each other. It also makes no sense that they would have a kid together. She is so high-maintence and basically a diva and not like someone you would expect Chris to be with. Of course, it's basically true that he has always been in love with Lorelai and always will be so he's always going to have trouble finding someone else to be with. He sleeps with Lorelai and probably wants to be with her but when he learns that Sherry is expecting, he decides to do the right thing and get back together with Sherry. Wrong move, Chris. Even though they have a baby and are engaged, things don't work out that well. She actually abandons both of them and moves to Paris for work. That forces Christopher to grow up pretty fast (even though he still has that loveable childlike quality). Sadly, it doesn't seem like Chris has a new love in his life in the revival, and hopefully he finds someone who is a better match for him.
9 Jenna And Jake On 'Awkward'
If you're a fan of the MTV show Awkward -- which you should be because it's hilarious -- then you know that this couple was AWFUL. Fans know that Jenna and Matty are the ones who are supposed to be together. They are adorable, they have off-the-walls chemistry and they are destined by the stars or something equally romantic. It's crazy that Jenna even dates Jake. Sure, he's pretty cute and she's definitely attracted to him, but they honestly spend all of their scenes making out. It actually gets kind of annoying after a while. Sorry Jenna, still love you but this is just the truth. Jenna just has to be with Matty. She just has to be. Some fans got frustrated with this show since it's mainly about Jenna's many boyfriends, and there was a bit of a love triangle between Jenna, Matty, and Jake since Matty and Jake have always been BFFS. But when Jenna is with Jake, she's with the wrong guy.
8 Lucas And Brooke On 'One Tree Hill'
EVERYONE knows that Lucas and Peyton have always been meant to be. It's just a fact of pop culture and cheesy teen TV. So when Lucas and Brooke date, it's really creepy. It just is. You know that he's supposed to be with Peyton and that this is a disaster waiting to happen (or at least just a break-up). The problem is that when Brooke is in high school, she's totally boy crazy and way too into herself and just doesn't seem like girlfriend material. Of course, as she grows up, you realize that she's a totally loveable and charming character and that she seems so cocky because she's actually completely insecure. She's been ignored by her wealthy parents for most of her life and is really just a lost little girl, hoping to find love someday. It's all kinds of awkward watching her date Lucas and thankfully they don't end up happily ever after. Well, they do, but not with each other.
7 Spencer And Caleb On 'Pretty Little Liars'
These two are super cute together and seem to have lots in common. They look good together, they have chemistry, and they have an intellectual connection as well. So basically they seem perfect. What's the problem? What's so cringe-worthy? They are with the wrong people. Caleb is supposed to be with Hanna and Spencer is supposed to be with Toby. It's a law of television or something and it needs to be followed. So even though you watch these two and think that their hook-up is pretty hot, you know deep down that they can't end up together. They just can't. Or you're going to totally boycott the show. Okay, so maybe that's kind of an empty threat since there's only one half-season left. But you really want the right couples to end up together and for everyone to live happily ever after. You've watched these characters suffer for long enough.
6 Jasmine And Crosby On 'Parenthood'
The beautiful family drama made you cry for six seasons and you are probably still pretty bummed that it is over. Or maybe you are relieved since you went through way too many boxes of tissues. The truth is that no matter how much you love these two characters, you have to admit that Jasmine and Crosby make a pretty bad couple. They fight way too much and they just seem so oddly matched. There is really no reason for them to be together when you think about it. They do not have anything in common and they have super annoying and cliche fights. Like about loading the dishwasher. Yes, really. They also do not seem to be able to figure out their work lives or how to balance career stuff and family, and that is a bit strange since that is basically what you are supposed to do if you are in a relationship.
5 Owen And Cristina On 'Grey's Anatomy'
There are SO many reasons why these two make you cringe. First of all, they are WAY too dark when they are together. Plus there is that whole almost choking incident that is pretty scary. Second of all, Owen wants a kid and Cristina does not and they spend way too much time fighting about that. The truth is that it sucks to realize that you want something different than your partner but you have to be honest with yourself and with them. Otherwise, things will never work out and you will start to resent them. Eventually, these two figure out that they have to break up, and it is all kinds of awkward and horrible and sad and tragic. You definitely think that Owen and Amelia are a better match even though, of course, they are not exactly lacking in drama. But you would not expect anything else from these doctors.
4 Jo And Alex On 'Grey's Anatomy'
The thing is that these two are pretty cute and definitely care about each other a ton. But they're a bad couple for one main reason: they haven't been honest with each other. And that spells disaster no matter what. Jo is hiding a huge secret -- Jo Wilson is not her real name and she's actually married -- and didn't ever seem to think that this was something that she should tell her boyfriend. Um, sorry Jo but this is a MASSIVE deal. Another issue is that they have been together since forever and never seemed to talk about or even think about the possibility of getting married. That's just weird because if you're not moving your relationship forward, you really should examine your relationship. After the terrible incident that broke them up, Alex and Jo have been totally ignoring each other and it all is just a big mess that proves they need to stay broken up.
3 Mindy And Danny On 'The Mindy Project'
Talk about an awkward couple. On the one hand, Mindy and Danny are really cute together and seem to care about each other. On the other hand, Danny is a jerk who hates that Mindy wants to work and be a mom too. OMG Danny what century are you living in? Why do you have to be so mean? It's not like you ever really thought that Mindy would be a stay at home mom. She's a total career woman and oh yeah, she also started her own practice, which is pretty awesome. It's just ridiculous how poorly matched these two are and the relationship has caused Mindy way too much pain and suffering. Plus if a couple is always fighting and never seems to be on the same page, that's not a good sign that they should stay together. It's kind of awkward though since you probably want them to be a couple, right? Yeah. This one's confusing.
2 Carrie And Big On 'Sex And The City'
Carrie and Big may be a totally iconic TV couple but come on, they are the worst. They just are. Think about how unstable and emotional their entire relationship is. Carrie spends so much time hoping and wishing and dreaming that Big will really commit to her. She's always trying to figure out what he's thinking and feeling since he's basically a closed book. She wants him to be a real boyfriend but he's just not interested. He just doesn't seem to appreciate her or even like her all that much. There are so many examples of this, like when he doesn't want to meet her BFFS and when he says that he's moving and doesn't even factor her into the equation. Ouch. It's also weird that in the movies, they still seem to be having problems, like when Carrie still holds onto her single girl apartment and when they fight over having a TV in the bedroom. Sorry but they're not as meant to be as everyone seems to believe.
1 Dawson And Joey On 'Dawson's Creek'
The number one cringe-worthy couple on TV? The top spot totally goes to none other than Joey and Dawson. They should NEVER be together. They are just so awkward when they date in season one and they have a massive fight when they try to hook up again during their college years, which just proves that they're not a good match. If they were supposed to live happily ever after, then they would seem totally natural and comfortable with each other, and that's just not what's going on. By the series finale, it's clear that these two are soulmates but only in a totally platonic sense. Joey is definitely meant to be with Pacey and you can see they have much better chemistry and a much better connection. Dawson doesn't seem to have found his one true love by that episode, but hopefully, by now, he's figured out how to channel his creative and romantic energy into a legit relationship that works better for him. And if you're a Dawson/Joey person, sorry but you're wrong.
