15 DIY Projects Gone Horribly Wrong

The Internet has become an infinite source of amazing projects we can do, commonly known as DIY or “do it yourself”. The web has opened up the door to our creativity and encouraged us to implement other people's ideas in our own lives.

We've all seen endless things that look amazing on the screen, and for some reason the creators of these awesome ideas make it seem like the instructions are so simple to follow. Unfortunately for many out there, things don't turn out as planned. But even if the results are disastrous, we have to admit that these people were brave enough to post their results on the web to make us smile.

Even the best tutorials can end up going horribly wrong. So keep on reading and learn from other's mistakes, maybe you can do a better job than they did!

    15 Graduation Cookies

The tutorial shows a perfectly painted cookie of a girl receiving her diploma, but the online version is pretty far away from the expected result. We can see how the person couldn't get the contouring right, and it just looks like a freak show.

Nevertheless, we give this person an A for effort. We know tutorials can be difficult to follow but at least this person had a sense of humor about it. Sometimes it's not about getting things perfect, but about having fun while enjoying the ride.

    14 Pumpkin Baby

In the photo on the left we see a cute little cherub sitting inside a pumpkin, looking peaceful and adorable. Everything seems like rainbows and sunshine, and of course any mother would like to have an adorable picture of their baby looking absolutely perfect and gorgeous.

Unfortunately for the baby on the right, this idea didn't really appeal to him; there is fear in his eyes and the whole thing looks uncomfortable. Of course, this doesn't make the baby any less cute, he's just a little frightened, and probably needs some practice at posing for the camera.

We have to hand it to the mom for getting this fantastically funny result.

    13 Bear Hot-Cakes

The DIY instructions make it seem like even a child could do it easily, but when this person tried to imitate the adorable bear hot cakes the result was frightening. We cant really tell what exactly the shape of the hot cake on the right is supposed to be. But it looks monstrous, like it's going to try and eat you instead of the other way around. Who knows? maybe the flavor was amazing, even though it resembles a monster rather than a bear?

    12 Comic Book Nails

Nail art is hot nowadays, and there's an infinite number of different styles on the web for ladies to have a go at. The photo on the left shows a trendy comic book-style varnish that looks pretty awesome, but for the woman trying to copy it, the result was so unbelievably far away from the expected one. She clearly found it hard to stay within the lines, and the varnish just looks completely different from the one on the left. Did she really even try?

At least she got creative and gave it a go, we have to give her two thumbs up for trying and hopefully her skills will get better with practice.

    11 Chocolate-Covered Kiwi Popsicle

Chocolate-covered kiwi popsicles seem like a delicious and nutritious snack for kids and adults. I mean come on! It looks absolutely yummy and easy to do. How hard can it be, right?

By the look of the photo on the right it is a lot harder to do than it appears. For some reason the person trying to do this tasty DIY dish failed terribly. We can't judge the flavor, but by looking at the image we're guessing that without practice or a creative mind, it's easy to mess up.

    10 Candy Lips

Candy lips can look amazing, and who doesn't love the sweet taste? Of course this is an amazing idea to spice up the flavor of our smoochers, and besides, it looks pretty easy to copy. How hard could it be to put candy on your lips, right? Well… it's harder than it looks at first glance.

This lady found out that it wasn't as simple as it seemed, and the result is pretty far away from what she expected. But at least she had enough courage to upload the funny result and give us a little chuckle.

    9 Rainbow Colored Ice Cubes

The photo on the left shows a delicious and refreshing beverage with some awesome colored ice cubes. But how can someone get this wrong? I mean, it's just ice cubes, right? Put a little coloring in the tray, put it in the freezer et voila.

Well, I haven't really tried doing this, so I can't judge the level of difficulty. But something definitely went awry here. The person on the right managed to make ice cubes wrong and the beverage looks pretty disgusting as well. Hopefully the flavor wasn't too bad and nobody was hurt in the process.

    8 Hedgehog Cake

First of all, it's probably a good idea to try and stick to what you actually see in the tutorial, the simple things, such as matching the color and just in general trying to mimic the way it looks… Here, if you compare the two different outcomes, the original idea actually looks like a hedgehog, whilst the other attempt resembles something more like a hell hound from a fiery pit of doom.

Do hedgehogs even have sharp rows of teeth and soul-eating eyes? This is one that we can all definitely learn from; when doing a DIY project it is best not to navigate away from the original example unless you have a great artistic talent.

    7 Kit Kat Cake

We don't really know if the person who made the cake in the bottom photo was trying to imitate the cake on top, because while they are based on the same concept, they don't really look alike. The one on top is perfectly adorned with Kit Kat chocolate all around and the m&ms are beautifully placed on top of the cake. The one on the bottom is just a big mess; it is even held together using tape instead of a pretty ribbon. It doesn't really seem like the person put any effort into it.

    6 Crayon Art

They say beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so maybe someone, somewhere can see the abstract beauty of the art in the bottom photo.

We can't deny that this DIY project seems pretty easy to follow and that the results are stunning. However, not everything that we see on the internet is easy to imitate. We do have to acknowledge that the creator of the picture on the bottom didn't really follow the instructions correctly since they decided to duct tape the crayons instead of gluing them. Something else must have gone wrong too, but hey! Art is art and we have to admit that the one on the bottom has its own… special qualities?

5 Green Peppers And Eggs Breakfast

The picture on the left looks deliciously marvelous; eggs inside green peppers with toasted bread. It looks easy to copy at first glance, but as the creator of the photo on the right learned, things can get pretty messy when trying out something from the web.

The eggs in the photo on the right look disastrous and almost inedible; a complete mess that makes us wonder how doable the delicious meals we see online actually are. At least they dared to try something new and maybe they learned from this failed attempt and managed to get it right the next time. If you try this idea yourself, you should probably try to get the egg INSIDE of the peppers.

    4 Lamb Cake

It's the adorable lamb cake that would perfectly suit a child's party, and we have to admit that it looks pretty complicated to get this one right. Therefore, before we judge we must first congratulate the woman who tried to do it since her result is pretty funny, and while it resembles a dog more than a lamb, at least it doesn't look as disturbing as some of the other attempts on this list. She had the guts to do it and post the funny result on the web, so maybe this will serve as a warning for others who try and recreate the cute lamb cake.

    3 Door Wreath

Adorning the exterior with a wreath is a fun way of making your home more cozy, elegant and welcoming. But as the person who made the object in the photo at the bottom learned, not all wreaths should be put up for the world to see. Their wreath looks like a bunch of socks tied up together and hung on the door to dry. Still, it looks welcoming, welcoming people to a fun house where creativity is appreciated regardless of the outcome. Even if the result is different from the original, we appreciate the bravery of hanging it up as it shows an easy-going attitude that is more focused on having fun than getting it right.

    2 Decorative String Balls

These decorative string balls look beautiful but hard to do. Come on, how can one possibly make the strings stay together in the shape of a ball? Where is the physics? Chances are that the full tutorial had an explanation on how to do it successfully. But for some reason the artist behind the work of art in the photo on the right did something (or everything) wrong. The result? Take a look for yourself. A bunch of string tied together with no form whatsoever. At least they taught us that there's more to these string balls than what we thought at first glance.

    1 Cookie Smores

Who doesn't love smores? Chocolate, marshmallows and a cookies all in one. But someone, somewhere came up with an even better idea: All three ingredients combined and covered in chocolate chip cookie dough.

Sadly the person who did the “dessert” on the right learned the hard way that this recipe is not as easy as they make it out to be. Still, the result seems edible, just not very appealing to the eye. Just remember that practice produces masters, so it's just a matter of practicing in order to get it right. We're still thankful that the person on the right uploaded the result on the web and let us know that this recipe requires a little more care and attention.
