15 Famous Relationships That Have Actually Lasted
We are only slightly devastated about Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie's divorce, but we can lament that marriage by celebrating our other favorite successful celeb couples! Hollywood has a reputation for destroying the romance in the name of good press and providing a toxic environment in which no relationship can survive. But if we look at the following 15 famous relationships that have actually lasted, we can see that is not entirely true! You do get the 72-day marriages here and there, in addition to the relationships that you can tell are more fictitious than the movies themselves, but in amongst all of that, it seems that true love can prosper. It certainly takes a lot of hard work to keep things healthy when you are dealing with opposing crazy schedules, tabloid rumors and seas of groupies at your feet, but it can be done! It's nice to see that love isn't entirely dead in Hollywood.
15 Sarah Jessica Parker And Matthew Broderick
If you do not know much about Sarah Jessica Parker, you probably associate her only with the character Carrie Bradshaw from SATC. In that case, it would come as a complete shock to you that in real life, she isn't actually a hot mess when it comes to dating, but has been married to the love of her life, fellow actor Matthew Broderick, since 1997! To put it into perspective, that covers her whole run on the show, and means next year will mark their 20th anniversary! They have three children together, including their son James who is 13 years old, and twins Loretta and Tabitha who are seven years old. Despite SJP's being a household name and Matthew being a pretty talented and successful actor himself (he voiced the adult Simba in The Lion King so we like him a lot!), the two have managed to keep it together!
14 Ben Stiller And Christine Taylor
You never really hear much about Ben Stiller's love life, and maybe that's why it's been so successful! Ben has been married to Christine Taylor since 2000, and the couple are showing no signs of calling it quits. They've actually co-starred in a few movies, including Zoolander and Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story, so you've probably seen them interacting on screen without realizing that they're actually married! Their youngest child, Quinlin, has just turned 11 and their daughter Olivia, is 14 now, so Christine is looking forward to getting back into the acting side of things after taking a break to raise the kids. While their children were growing up, Ben and Christine would coordinate their schedules so Olivia and Quinlin never had to go too long without seeing at least one parent, and we think it's organization and compromises like that which have helped sustain this relationship for sure!
13 Tom Hanks And Rita Wilson
Tom Hanks is one of the most famous and successful actors of all time, so people are often surprised to learn that he's actually managed to maintain a healthy relationship with his wife, Rita Wilson. The two were married in 1988, so if our calculations are accurate, they've nearly spent 30 years as husband and wife! In that time, the famous couple has no doubt dealt with their share of malicious rumors and gossip speculating whether they were going to break up or not, and it must be really challenging to remain unaffected by all that. Tom, who'd already been married once, believes that there were definitely sparks flying when he met Rita, and both of them had a feeling that they'd found what they were looking for. He's said in the past that they got married for “all the right reasons” and that may be the secret to a long-lasting marriage!
12 Faith Hill And Tim McGraw
The king and queen of country music are the perfect example of #couplegoals. The two musicians married in October of 1996, which means they're just about to hit 20 years, and they're still as in love as ever. Tim actually proposed to her on tour while they were in the dressing room, which may have been a bit risky at the time, but it clearly worked out for the best. The singers have three daughters together, Gracie who's 19, Maggie who's 18, and Audrey who's 14, and are the perfect role models for anybody needing some romance inspo. The two regularly post snaps of each other on Instagram and aren't afraid to display the strength of their love to the world. While we're wary of those relationships which look great on paper but have no substance behind the scenes, Faith and Tim have proven time and time again that they're the real deal!
11 Michael J. Fox And Tracy Pollan
Michael J. Fox married Tracy Pollan in 1998, and through everything, the couple has been through together, they're still going strong! Trying to make a relationship work when you're in the public eye comes with its own set of problems, but on top of that Michael was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 1991 when he was just 29. Any sickness puts a huge strain on everybody in the family, but Tracy stuck by Michael's side, and the two are still inseparable. Tracy reportedly believes that the secret to their marriage is giving each other the benefit of the doubt, and not jumping to conclusions when you first hear something negative that the other person has done. She also has said that they make each other laugh a lot, and always remembers that even when things come up, they have each other's backs at the end of the day. Too cute!
10 Ellen DeGeneres And Portia De Rossi
If we're talking about our favorite high-profile couples, we absolutely can't go past Ellen DeGeneres and Portia De Rossi! The couple started dating over 10 years ago in 2004 and finally tied the knot in 2008 at a gorgeous ceremony at their home in Los Angeles. The two are big on public displays of affection and love attending some of the biggest nights in showbiz, from award shows to royal gala dinners to famous parties, and every time they step on the red carpet, they remind us of how much we adore them. They have shared a few difficult times between them, including rumors of a near relationship meltdown after battles with eating disorders, but the two have reportedly sorted all that out and are now joining forces as business women to unite their fortunes and build an empire of sorts. Talk about a power couple. We can't get enough!
9 Hugh Jackman And Deborra-Lee Furness
He might be one of the hottest, in-demand actors in the world right now, but Hugh Jackman isn't one to neglect his marriage for the spotlight. The Wolverine star married wife Deborra-Lee Furness back in 1996, and the two have been able to stay together despite their busy careers. Deborra-Lee is an actress and humanitarian who is actually 13 years older than her husband, and if we're being honest, it's not often that you hear about male stars settling down with older women. It's usually quite the opposite! We feel like that shows how special the bond is between these two, who still support each other in all of their endeavors. Sadly, the couple suffered two miscarriages, but were able to adopt two beautiful children, Oscar who's 16 and Ava who's 11. Deborra-Lee has said that Hugh is like her best friend, and they have couple's night at least once a week.
8 Nicole Kidman And Keith Urban
It's already been 10 years since Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban married in 2006, but judging by the way they gush over each other in interviews and are obviously smitten on the red carpet, it's apparent that the flames haven't exactly fizzled out. While they do say it was love at first sight, it took Keith four months to work up the courage to call Nicole, and we're pretty glad he did! They've said in the past that they do have to work at it, and they've been there for each other during some pretty hard times, putting their family before anything else. To the outside world, they may have seemed like kind of an odd couple in the beginning, since at first glance she's the tall and sophisticated movie star and he's the humble-but-hot country singer, but we can all see now that after 10 years, opposites may just attract.
7 Goldie Hawn And Kurt Russell
Having been together for over 30 years, Hollywood legends Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russel give some of these other couples a run for their money, and definitely something to aspire to! They've been together since 1983, but have never tied the knot, expressing in the past that they love their life the way it is. Goldie has been quoted as saying, “A lasting relationship isn't about marriage. It's about compatibility and communication.” We guess a marriage certificate might not be what's really important after all if these two are anything to go by! Goldie's kids from her previous relationship with Bill Hudson, Kate and Oliver Hudson are just as included in the family as Kurt's son, Boston Russell (from his previous relationship), and Wyatt Russell, who is Goldie and Kurt's son together. They're the perfect example of how a family doesn't have to be conventional to still be loving and supportive.
6 Meryl Streep And Don Gummer
Meryl Streep is another Hollywood icon who does not like to show off her marriage to the prying eyes of the world. She married artist Don Gummer back in 1976, and he's quietly supported her through all her career successes the whole time. So sweet! The way they met is a little bittersweet but no doubt fate. After Meryl's first husband, John Cazale, died of bone cancer, Meryl temporarily moved into the vacant apartment of her brother's friend, Don Gummer, while he was away traveling overseas. But instead of moving out when he returned, the two hit it off and ended up getting married within six months! Think about that the next time you catch feelings for one of your brother's buddies. At the age of 67, Meryl has 40 years of marriage and an insanely legendary career under her belt, and we'd love to know what her secret is!
5 Will Smith And Jada Pinkett Smith
Will Smith and wife Jada are one of the most talked-about and hottest couples in Hollywood right now, so you'd be forgiven for thinking that their marriage is still young. Most people don't realize that since they married in 1997, they're actually approaching their 20th anniversary! The exceptions aside, that's like 100 years in the world of fame and fortune. It's been speculated that the couple have an open relationship, and of course, there have been cheating rumors and gay rumors and both Will and Jada have come under fire for the way they've raised children Jaden (18) and Willow (15). The Smith children have both made names for themselves in Hollywood, and critics often blame the lack of discipline from their parents. But at least Jaden and Willow have a positive relationship to look up to! Will has said that although it's hard work, his secret is not quitting.
4 Jay-Z And Beyoncé
Jay and Bey might not have been together for as long as some of the other couples on this list, but because of their almost god-like status, we have to hand it to them for making it this far. The two first met sometime in the late 90s, and after secretly and then not-so-secretly dating and appearing on each other's tracks, they married on April 4, 2008. Pregnancy rumors plagued the couple for years until Bey revealed her baby bump in 2011 and gave birth to Blue Ivy Carter in 2012. Since then, Bey and Jay have faced more cheating rumors than all other celebs combined, and they're at the point where neither one can walk down the street without having it make the front page. Bey's Lemonade in 2016 heavily suggested that Jay had been unfaithful at some point, but despite that, they're still together and smiling for the cameras.
3 Oprah Winfrey And Stedman Graham
Oprah Winfrey and Stedman Graham are another couple who have proved that it can totally work out without that marriage certificate that so many people would die for. The queen of television has been partnered up with Stedman since 1986, and the two even got engaged in 1992. But to this day, they remain unmarried and happy, insisting that they would prefer to have a “spiritual union” than a marriage. While Oprah has thought about it and been tempted in the past, especially when she attended pal Tina Turner's wedding, she doesn't believe she'll ever marry because it wouldn't make things much different. The two have kept their relationship out of the public eye as much as they can-really, as Oprah's partner, we could be hearing a lot more about this guy! That decision has reduced rather than ignited tabloid gossip and helped protect the relationship from any extra strain.
2 Sarah Michelle Gellar And Freddie Prinze Jr
These two are the ultimate couple for '90s kids! Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prinze Jr got hitched in 2002, after starring together in a few movies, including everybody's preferred sleepover thriller, I Know What You Did Last Summer in 1997. They're just one of those couples whom everybody was hoping would stay together, and they actually have! Their first daughter, Charlotte Grace Prinze, arrived in 2009, followed by their second child, Rocky James Prinze, who arrived in 2012. Even though they're one of the most-loved couples of our generation, SMG and Freddie have followed in the footsteps of a few other successful couples on this list and kept things pretty private. We don't often get to see them participating in PDAs on red carpets, and we're not bombarded with personal snaps. So when we do get a mere glimpse of their relationship from the inside, we still get revved up!
1 David And Victoria Beckham
Last but certainly not least, we come to the absolute cream of the crop of high-profile couples. David and Victoria Beckham, known the world over by the title 'Posh and Becks' are all the evidence you'll ever need to know that Hollywood doesn't have to destroy a relationship. Some loves can withstand even the most immense pressure, and this is certainly one of them. The former Spice Girl and legendary athlete got married in 1999, and people of the time probably expected it to be a bit of a sham. Let's be real-he was the hottest thing in his industry, she was in the biggest girl group of the time, and it seemed like a match made in press heaven. But the couple has stayed together all this time, raised a very attractive family, and have continued to grow in their personal careers as well! It doesn't get much better.
