15 Hairstyles Inspired By 'Game of Thrones' Characters

Game of Thrones is a show of daring, adventure and oh yeah, tons of swordfights. But what you might have also noticed is that despite the troubling times the characters have to go through, their hair is still fabulous. And not just fabulous in terms of the show's universe either: the hair would look great in our world as well. Have you ever wondered how they mastered some of the best styles on the show? After all, the leading ladies look fantastic in various styles with seemingly no slip-ups! Well luckily, some of these looks can be replicated! Wouldn't you like to look like your favorite character? Or maybe there is a character you don't like that you have to admit still looks awesome. Whether you're a lady with long flowing locks or a girl with a pixie cut, there is a look for everyone. Take a look at some of the styles below, and try one out for yourself!

    15 Sansa Stark: French Braid

For one of Sansa's more casual looks, she has a simple French braid over her shoulder. It's kind of her trademark at this point. To French braid, start putting your hair into a regular braid and then start adding pieces of hair. For example, when you go to move a left or right piece of the middle piece, grab some more from the side to add to the braid. Keep to small amounts of hair, however, because it will look more detailed the tinier the sections of hair are. Sansa definitely has a detailed, intricate braid and in this picture, she has a few loose wisps of hair that are supposed to be casual, but we're no fools: they just so happen to frame her face perfectly! This is an easy hairstyle that looks like it would be more complicated than it actually is, and is perfect for kicking butt in, or you know, just heading to work. Whichever one you prefer.

14 Sansa Stark (Again): Two Braids

The lovely Sansa Stark sometimes wears this awesome hairstyle: two braids that join into one in the back. To get this look of hers, you just need to part your hair into two sections and French braid both of them. Then, braid the end of the two French braids together to form one big French braid. For an added extra to the Sansa look, curl the hair that is not in a braid to give the appearance of free-flowing waves. This will make it look more identical to Sansa's hair. This hairstyle is one of Sansa's more elegant looks, and you will feel more innocent and lady-like in this 'do, just like Sansa was at the start of the series. She has now been to hell and back, however, and is more likely to rock the casual French braid above. But if you want to feel like a princess, try this one out for sure! You won't be disappointed.

    13 Cersei Lannister: Twists

This look is one that is only fit for a queen, and we wouldn't expect anything less from this awesome female. Take a part of your hair in the back and start braiding when you get halfway down. Then, take two small pieces on either said of your head and twist them back. Put the twists together into a ponytail that goes gently over the original braid. Then, take larger pieces from the sides of your head and braid them together in the back. Lastly, put it all together by putting the two braids and the ponytail all together into a single braid. Voila! You now rival the Queen of Westeros in the hair department. This look was classic Cersei before, (spoiler alert!) her hair cut. Rocking a pixie cut is an option too, all you have to do is straighten your hair to look like Cersei. Cersei's new hair is flat against her head but still manages to be thick.

    12 Cersei Lannister (Again): Pixie

Cersei makes her new look work for her and, to be honest, Joffrey had similar hair! But the flat-ironed pixie-cut is a classic and fun look. The way to make it as straight as possible is to towel-dry immediately when you get out of the shower, and then put in some leave-in conditioner. Make sure you put it in evenly and then comb it through. Blow dry straight, and then take a flat-iron to the longer pieces of your hair. Although Cersei's haircut wasn't a choice, she rocks it anyways! And as evil, as Joffrey is, you have to admit his hair game is super strong! Don't be afraid to rock the pixie cut, girl. If you're debating whether you should cut your hair off and go for one of these styles, look no further than these two. They look fresh and awesome with their short hair, and you will too. So take a chance and make a change!

    11 Margaery Tyrell: Loose Curls

This look is like the easier version of Cersei's complicated hair, although neither Cersei nor Margaery would probably enjoy that comparison! Margaery has loose curls that can be achieved by braiding wet hair and letting it dry overnight before undoing the braid in the morning to reveal wavy, Margaery-esque curls. After, take pieces from either side of the front of your head, twist back, and pin them there. Then, begin to take larger sections and pin it back, making it parallel to the bottom part. Ponytail the two sections together, and then repeat on the other side of your head to finish the look off. And there you have it! The perfect Margaery Tyrell hair. This style is also fit for a queen as she is the queen of King's Landing. Try adding a flower or shiny pin for an extra lovely detail. But that's not the only look you can try out that's Margaery's style!

10 Margaery Tyrell (Again): Topsy Tail

This look requires what is called a “topsy tail” technique. If that sounds complicated, it's really not at all! Just part your hair in the center and twist two sections from your temples back. Use a subtle hair band so that it won't show through the finished style. Then comes the topsy tail, where you flip your hair up over the hair band. You want to do this enough so that your hair is sitting in a level twist. Then, tuck in the ends of your hair by breaking up the hair in your hair band and hiding it so it blends with the rest of your hair. Lastly, take a couple of bobby pins to pin the twisted hair in place. Once again, you want this to look like a never-ending twist, so try to disguise it as such. You'll look as pretty as a princess with this hair, even if you don't live in a castle or deal with dragons or anything magical on a daily basis.

9 Melisandre: Wavy And Pulled Back

The infamous lady in red, Melisandre, has an updo only a professional could achieve. Lucky for us, that is actually totally wrong! You can copy Melisandre's hair yourself at home and is super easy, too. First get that center part going again, then separate the front of your hair from the rest of your head, as that part will stay loose and separate from the up-do. Then, go to the back where you can take pieces of hair from either side of your ears and braid them together in the back. Then twist the braid into a bun, and boom! Done! To look even more like Melisandre, wrap more sections around the bun for extra volume and make the rest of your free-flowing hair as wavy and tousled-looking as possible. Then you'll really be able to double for this character! We're sure her God of Light was pleased with this look. How could you not be?

8 Daenerys Targaryen: Tons Of Small Braids

Ah, Daenerys. She's arguably the most famous and stylish of the Game of Thrones bunch. After all, she is Khaleesi! Try this one out: first, practice doing a “Dutch braid,” which is almost exactly like a French braid except the hair is braided under rather than over. It's like a reverse French braid. Once you have it mastered, make two Dutch braids from the hair at your temples and (you guessed it) put them together in the back to make one single ponytail. This is where it gets different: take another section of hair and Dutch braid it below the ponytail. Do it on either side and put them together to make one massive braid, but include the ponytail above it as well. The rest of the hair is just straight and plain. What a unique, yet brilliant, way to do a braided hairstyle! This one is definitely worth trying out.

7 Daenerys Targaryen (Again): Braided Twist

This hairstyle contains a lot of braids, so get your hair elastics and bobby pins ready! Once again, we're doing a Dutch braid. Take hair from either side of your temples and do two Dutch braids at the crown of your head. You should now have two matching braids on each side of your head. Then, take hair from the left side of your head and Dutch braid that as well, but add in hair from both sides. Then, once again, do a matching one on the right. You should now have four braids. Put the top two braids together to form one ponytail/braid, and then combine all the braids together by regularly braiding. Now all your braids are braided together to form a complex braided look! In order to complete, take extra hair from the nape of your neck and use it to wrap around your braids. Then, take a piece of hair below your hair elastic and wrap it around to disguise it.

6 Daenerys Targaryen (And Again): Three Tiny Braids

Yep, there's a third Daenerys hairstyle you can do. Just get three hair elastics (or silver pins if you want to be really accurate) and take a tiny piece of hair on either side of your temples and bring them back into an elastic. Then, do the same thing with small pieces of hair above your ears. Repeat with hair below your ears and that's literally it! This is probably the easiest hairstyle you can do that will make you look like Khaleesi. It's like three small ponytails that go along the back of your head. You'll look ready to raise dragons in no time with this hair-do. This is a more fierce way to do ponytails with a hint of girly. It's also super simple in comparison to some of the more braided styles. If you want to get Game of Thrones hair in a shorter amount of time, definitely pick out this one.

    5 Arya Stark: Double Buns

Arya is known for her short hair and androgynous appearance but managed to find a cute, feminine way to keep her hair up rather than just in a classic ponytail. Double buns are also very easy to do, too. First, put your hair into pigtails. They should be right at the back of your head. Then twist the ponytails up and around and pin in place. If you have long hair, you can leave some down, but Arya is definitely a function-over-fashion kind of gal and was probably putting her hair up for hot weather. But that does not mean it's not fashionable-it's actually very on-trend at the moment. It used to be huge in the '90's and now is making a grunge-y comeback. Tons of celebrities are opting for the double-bun look, like Khloe Kardashian, Kendall Jenner, and Ariana Grande. Give it a shot and see what you think!

    4 Old Nan: Milkmaid Braid

One look that every Game of Thrones female character has had at one point or another is the classic milkmaid braid. To get the classic braid, part your hair down the center and braid your hair the normal, three-piece way, or in any braid you like. Some people suggest using a fishtail braid or a rope braid. Try it with various types of braids to see which you like best. Do one on each side and then pin them on your head, crossing them over to the other side of the head. It's a super-cute way to keep your hair up and one of the simpler braided looks on the list. In this picture, Old Nan is rocking it, but don't be fooled-it's a totally trendy and young look. It's also one of the most popular in both the Game of Thrones universe. So if this is your all-time favorite show and you want to look like your fave characters, definitely give it a try.

3 Jon Snow: Perfectly Messy Curls

Okay, so this is a dude, but haven't you ever envied his messy curls? If your hair doesn't dry naturally like this, there is an easy way to get the look. All you need is a curling iron. And if you don't have one, here's a trick: you can use a flat-iron too! Just roll a piece of hair with your finger and hold it in the flat-iron. Repeat all over your head. In fact, the more imperfect the look, the more accurate. It will seem effortless and chic. Don't forget to break up the curls with your fingers! It'll make the curls looser. This is a really quick, casual look that you can walk the halls of school or work in, but also endure a sword-fight in if need be! Even though this is a guy's hair, don't be deterred. This man has long cascading hair, as opposed to the wild short hair on the woman below, and you would be silly not to want the same thing yourself.

2 Brienne of Tarth: Short Curls

For the short-haired girls out there, you can definitely use a curling iron or flat iron, even if you think that you totally can't. To achieve this awesomely messy look, it's best to use a 1/2 inch curling iron and use a small amount of styling cream, too. Get playful with that styling cream, though, and run it through your hair every which way. Then, of course, grab the old hairspray. This is both simple and tons of fun. This is a great alliterative to the super-straight look that other characters have like Joffrey and Cersei. And Brienne is a kick-but character that we definitely want to emulate. This super-tall knight is almost loyal to a fault as she fights for whoever she has pledged to. She also always keeps her promises. We're sure that this hairstyle could be attractive to Jamie Lannister so we'll just have to wait and see what happens. This hair is spunky and unique, so it's definitely going to turn some heads.

1 Shae: Half Up, Half Down

Poor Shae. Although she was regarded as a lowly worker, her hair still manages to be fabulous. The half up, half down hairdo is totally party-worthy. Push your hair forward to give it a little volume, and then twist and pin to the head. Twist it into a full bun, and keep pinning! After the bun is complete, take one front side of hair and wrap it around the bun. Then do the same with the other front section. And there you have it! A totally romantic, flirty look to add to your list of completely style-forward, Game of Thrones hair-dos. There are so many looks to try out and have fun with. Whether you want flirty or fierce, there's a Game of Thrones hair-do that is just perfect for you. Maybe make a day of it and try out all of them! While you are marathoning Game of Thrones, of course. That sounds like the best afternoon ever.
