15 HIDEOUS Celeb Headshots Taken Before They Were Famous
There are a lot of hot celebrities out in Hollywood but not all of them were born with their good looks. Some celebs had to grow into themselves a little bit before they appeared on TV or in the movies but we love seeing old photos of them before they became big stars. Though some of these celebs were definitely still attractive back in the day when they were out looking for their big break. However, their good looks were often ruined by some dated hairstyles and, in some cases, a cowboy hat or a polka-dotted sweater. Still, there are few things more satisfying and reassuring than seeing that even the biggest celebs in the world had awkward stages. Thank goodness! There's hope for us all!
All of these celebs probably wish that they could remove these photos from the internet because they are beyond embarrassing. Honestly, who thought it would be a good idea for an aspiring actor to pose shirtless in a cowboy hat for his headshot? You'll be surprised when you see these truly terrible photos, especially the photo of a young Rick Gervais wearing makeup. Even the most beautiful and handsome stars are not perfect and these photos are proof. There are headshots of Vin Diesel with hair and a very minimal tank top, a famous singer with hair as big as her head, and a very spiky-haired Channing Tatum. These photos will not fail to both amuse and horrify you.
15 Chris Pratt
Before he was Star-Lord in Guardians of the Galaxy and even before he was Andy Dwyer on Parks and Recreation, Chris Pratt was just a dorky dude with some weird sideburns. In the Jurassic World star's first headshot, he looks like he's posing for an Abercrombie and Fitch catalogue. He landed his first big TV role as Bright Abbott in Everwood in 2002 and then he became series regular on Parks and Recreation in 2009. He wowed the world when he bulked up for his role as Peter Quill in Guardians of the Galaxy and went from the chubby funny guy to being the ripped funny guy. What we love most about Pratt is how he and his wife Anna Farris are ultimate relationship goals. The two comedic actors have been married since 2009, they have a son named Jack, and they are totally in love.
14 Chace Crawford
Like many actors, Chace Crawford began his acting career by appearing in a very bad horror film. This film was called The Covenant and it was released in 2006. He then appeared in a bad TV movie but then things started looking up when he landed the role of Nate Archibald in The CW's Gossip Girl. That's pretty impressive considering he barely had any acting work beforehand. Maybe whoever was in charge of casting saw this photo of Crawford in a cowboy hat and liked what they saw. Obviously, Crawford is the ultimate CW dreamboat with those beautiful blue eyes and the cheek bones of a Ken doll. However, the shirtless cowboy look is not a great aesthetic for this pretty boy especially because he does not have any muscles to speak of. Nowadays, Crawford has a recurring role on the Hulu show Casual as Byron.
13 Bruce Willis
This photo of Bruce Willis may not exactly be an official headshot but it's the closest we'll probably ever get to one. Like, Vin Diesel, seeing Bruce Willis with a head full of hair is a strange sight to behold. Though he generally plays tough guys in movies, he hasn't always been the tough guy. Before he was John McClane in Die Hard, he was the student council president and the president of the drama club at his high school. In this photo, Willis looks very similar to his youngest daughter with Demi Moore, Tallulah, who has once had the same haircut. His daughter, Scout, is a musician and his eldest, Rumer, appeared on Dancing with the Stars and won in 2015. He and Moore divorced in 2000 and he married British model, Emma Heming, in 2009. The couple has two children together, Mabel Ray and Evelyn Penn.
12 Courteney Cox
Everyone may have wanted to be either Rachel or Phoebe from Friends but no one wanted to be Monica because she was the perfectionist know-it-all that was always bossing people around. But you know what? She had principles, she was organized, she had her life together. So it's okay if your the Monica of your friends, in fact, you should be proud. However, Courteney Cox was reluctant to be Monica as well. She originally tried out for the part of Rachel before she was given the part as Monica. Cox, of course, looks beautiful in this headshot but the hair, the earrings, and whatever she's wearing is so dated that it makes her look way older than she actually was. Her career actually began ten years before she was cast in Friends when she appeared in Bruce Springsteen's music video, "Dancing in the Dark" in 1984.
11 Melissa McCarthy
Melissa McCarthy began her career as a stand-up comedian in Los Angeles and was a member of The Groundlings, a famous improv group in LA. She got her first role in the NBC series Jenny which was the ill-fated vehicle for Jenny McCartney who also happens to be Melissa's cousin. The show ended ten episodes in and the last seven episodes never aired. Her first big TV role was as Sookie St. James on Gilmore Girls but her big breakout role was in Bridesmaids which launched her into the mainstream. In 2010, she was cast in Mike & Molly, a popular TV show that ended after 6 seasons in 2016. She has since gone on to star in multiple box office hits such as Spy, Ghostbusters, and The Heat and she will star in the upcoming movie Life of the Party which is directed by her husband, Ben Falcone.
10 Vin Diesel
Seeing Vin Diesel with hair is like seeing Zach Galifianakis without a beard. Of course, this is not a bad look for him at all but the tank was a bad choice especially since there is so little material, it barely qualifies as clothing. A better option would be to just go shirtless. Just a thought. Diesel decided to ditch the hair before his role in Saving Private Ryan and he's never gone back. Or more accurately, his hair has never gone back. After Riddick and xXx, the former bouncer landed the role of Dominic Toretto in The Fast and the Furious which was a BIG break considering the franchise is hugely successful and Fast and Furious 9 and Fast and Furious 10 are already in the works. When the first movie came out in 2001, it was just about street racers and the newest film is about saving the world from nuclear war. No judgment here though, the movie made hundreds of millions of dollars after all.
9 Dolly Parton
Renowned country singer and actress Dolly Parton looks beautiful in her first headshot but that hair is way too much. Though it's perfect for hiding candy in if you're going to the movies. Parton landed her first movie role in 1980 when she starred in 9 to 5 along with Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin. Parton was nominated for an Oscar for her song "Nine to Five" which she wrote for the film. She is best known for her music career which began when she was only 13. She has been married to her husband Carl Dean since 1966--that's over 50 years! She has won dozens of awards for her music, she is one of the most-honored female country singers ever, and she has her own theme park--not too bad for a gal who grew up in a one-room cabin in Tennessee!
8 Jared Leto
Jared Leto started his career in 1992 when he starred in My So-Called Life as Claire Danes' love interest, Jordan Catalano. After his stint on the short-lived TV show was cancelled, Leto got a few roles here and there but eventually formed the rock band 30 Seconds to Mars in 1998 with his brother. After that, his career took off and he got roles in Fight Club, American Psycho, and Requiem for a Dream. He then went on to star in indie films and eventually win an Oscar for his role in Dallas Buyers Club and, after that, tormented and annoyed the cast of Suicide Squad with his Joker-esque antics. But before any of that, he posed for this photo which is almost unforgivable. The long, tangled hair, the dramatic pose, and the unbuttoned shirt is just too much to take in. He's almost unrecognizable.
7 Megan Mullally
Like Dolly Parton, Megan Mullally looks beautiful in this headshot but the hairstyle is way too distracting and that collar looks like a decorative doily you would find at a grandma's house. Mullally started in TV before she appeared in movies and her first film role was as a call girl in Risky Business. She is best known for her work in television and she landed her breakout role when she was cast in Will & Grace as Karen Walker. She has guest-starred on numerous TV shows such as Seinfeld, Frasier, Boston Legal, Parks and Recreation, 30 Rock, Happy Endings, and Murder, She Wrote. She will also be appearing in the revival of Will & Grace which was announced in January. The new season will have 12 episodes and it is set to premiere this fall. Mullally has been married to Nick Offerman since 2003 and they are one of Hollywood's greatest couples.
6 Rebel Wilson
It's hard to believe that Rebel Wilson has gotten so many roles in big movies with such a horrible headshot but she probably got some better ones sometime before she made it to Hollywood. Today, the Pitch Perfect star looks like a beautiful and glamorous movie star but this photo proves that she definitely went through an awkward stage. Not only is she an actress but she graduated from a university in Australia with a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Bachelor of Laws degree. After college, she claimed to have contracted malaria and it caused her to have hallucinations. One of these hallucinations was that she was an actress and she had won an Oscar which is what inspired her to become an actress. Well it's definitely not a hallucination now! Her first ever Hollywood role was a small part in Bridesmaids which is pretty impressive for a first job in Hollywood!
5 Eddie Redmayne
Before Eddie Redmayne became a leading man in Hollywood, he was a theater actor and appeared in many Shakespeare plays like all great English actors do. His first role was as Viola in Twelfth Night which is generally played by a male because the character is disguised as a male throughout the majority of the play. You might not be able to tell by that headshot but, in 2008, he modeled for Burberry along with Alex Pettyfer. The shaggy haircut and that horrible polka dot sweater makes for a pretty awkward photograph. However, Redmayne survived his awkward stage and landed his first big Hollywood role in My Week with Marilyn in 2011 and then Les Miserables in 2012. He won an Academy Award for his role in The Theory of Everything and is now Newt Scamander in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
4 Ricky Gervais
Before Ricky Gervais became a comedian, he was a musician. He and a college friend formed a new wave band called Seona Dancing in 1983. The band was about as bad as it sounds. After the music career didn't work out, he then went into radio which is where he met Stephen Merchant and this eventually paved the way for the podcast, The Ricky Gervais Show. In 2001, he starred in the original UK TV series, The Office, which was created by himself and Merchant. His podcast then made into into the 2007 Guinness World Record for the world's most-downloaded podcast which is pretty impressive. He then went on to host the Golden Globes, create more television shows, and star in Hollywood movies but the most impressive moment in his career was his ability keep a straight face while posing for this photograph. Truly impressive.
3 James Marsden
Not only is James Marsden one of the hottest guys in Hollywood, he was also a Versace model before he became a leading man. His first job in Hollywood was the role of Eddie on The Nanny. In 2000, he landed his first big Hollywood movie role as Cyclops in X-Men. He appeared in the two other X-Men movies and also in another superhero movie, Superman Returns. He played second fiddle to Ryan Gosling in The Notebook as Rachel McAdam's second love. After the X-Men movies, Enchanted and Hairspray in 2007, 27 Dresses in 2008, The Box in 2009, you'd think that James Marsden would be more of a household name but he never got the chance to be a Ryan Gosling or Ryan Reynolds type but he made a big comeback this year in Westworld.
2 Christina Applegate
Christina Applegate was born in Hollywood and her father was a record producer and her mother was an actress and singer. She got her first TV role on Days of Our Lives as a kid and also appeared in Playtex bottle commercials. She was groomed to be in the business since she was just a little kid and you can tell that she had a flair for the dramatic by that headshot. Everything about that look screams "drama" with the platinum blonde hair, dramatic makeup, heavily powdered cheeks, and that intense stare. Her first starring role in a mainstream film was the rebellious teenager, Sue, in Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead. It's obvious that she was going for the rebellious teen look in that headshot because nothing says rebellion like a leather jacket and unbrushed hair.
1 Channing Tatum
Channing Tatum has got it all: he's got the bod, he can dance, he's got acting chops, he's funny, he's charming, and he has a beautiful family. However, he does have some embarrassing headshots. Before he landed his breakout role in Step Up, he was a "dancer" who went under the name of Chan Crawford. After that, he was a model for Abercrombie & Fitch and American Eagle Outfitters. Obviously, he still looks very attractive but that hair is so early 2000s it hurts. He looks like he could be one of The Backstreet Boys. Though he was named People magazine's Sexiest Man Alive in 2012, he's not just a pretty boy. He has starred in comedies such as 21 Jump Street and Magic Mike, chick-flicks like Dear John and The Vow, action films such as G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra, and critically acclaimed films such as Foxcatcher and Hail, Caesar! He's a talented guy, that haircut is just very unfortunate.
