15 Of The Hottest Scenes In Film

With the wonderful world of cinema able to make the simplest of objects look a billion times better than they actually are, things such as food, art, and even passion can seem like the most beautiful thing on the planet. Yes, the act of being intimate can be amazing, ravishing and absolutely mind blowing, but, is it usually as dazzlingly hot as it looks on the silver screen? If your answer is yes, then pat yourself on the back and stop reading, however, if you are among the regular folk, who unfortunately haven't quite reached the standards of Hollywood idealism, then boy do we have a treat for you. Since the movie industry is so intent on glamorizing the whole concept of being intimate with a partner, it has given us a long list of sexy scenes to choose from. So, to celebrate those who also manage to look a million times better than us in terms of appearance also, here are 15 of the hottest scenes in film.

    15 Blue Valentine

Not only is the chemistry between the two stars, Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams extraordinarily on point, but the movie itself sizzles from start to finish. Telling the story of married couple Dean and Cynthia, the narrative shifts back and forth, focusing on the important and disastrous parts of their marriage. And, as well as sharing with us the intricate details of their happy and unhappy union, the movie also shares with us a number of graphic and memorable bedroom scenes, with one, in particular, garnering a lot more attention that the actual movie itself. With downstairs business often absent upon the silver screen, Blue Valentine brought it back with a bang, literally, resulting in the scene in question becoming extremely controversial. Passionate, realistic and extremely hot, the act caused such a fury due to the fact that it was a man giving another woman pleasure, rather than the other way round. Whatever the case, the uproar didn't stop the Academy enjoying themselves, with Williams receiving a nomination for best actress.

    14 9 ½ Weeks

Proving to be something of a stud back in the eighties, Mickey Rourke certainly put in the extra half in 9 1/2 Weeks, especially when it came to landing himself as a diserable symbol all over the world. With a number of women drooling after him, Rourke's image completely and utterly changed, from roguish bad boy to all mighty fantasy god. Acting as a sort of mantra to men everywhere, it has often been suggested that due to Rourke's on screen antics, the private lives of a number of men and women seemingly improved, just from watching him work his magic. With one scene, in particular, displaying the variety of advantages that food can have to a person, Rourke, and the notorious blonde bombshell Kim Basinger, engage in a scene so sizzling, it had everyone wondering what was for dessert. The movie itself, however, is far from an Academy winner, but who cares? With Basinger and Rourke at the helm, all you need is love, and strawberries, honey, etc.

    13 The Notebook

Famed around the world as the ultimate weepie, The Notebook has often topped polls as the ultimate in classic chick flicks. However, make no mistake, with guys also known to shed a tear or two, The Notebook appeals to all genders, mainly due to the exhilarating chemistry of the two leads on screen. That's right, with Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams displaying a saucy sense of romantic passion, The Notebook is often remembered for its number of sizzling scenes. However, it is everyone's favorite fantasy that is really remembered, with the kissing scene alluding to so much more. As graphic as it can get for a PG-13, the scene, in particular, is renowned for the rain-soaked clothes, cleverly sticking to those parts on the two actors that we have so often dreamed about. However, despite the intense chemistry, the leading co-stars didn't actually get along in the first place, with Gosling even trying to remove McAdams from the set. Seemingly getting past their earlier hatred for one another, the two eventually ended up together, dating for a number of years after. Who said romance was dead?

    12 Ghost

Surely everybody has dreamed about getting busy behind a pottery wheel at some point in their life right? No? Nevertheless, Ghost has often been hailed as the most romantic movie ever produced, especially with regards to Demi Moore and Patrick Swayze's on screen chemistry. However, not your typical romantic comedy, or indeed even a chick flick, Ghost is actually quite terrifying at times, shocking you early on by killing one of its main characters! But, as well as turning you into a crying wreck of broken tears, the movie also warms your heart, especially with the scene telling us so much more with regards to the manhandling of the pottery rather than the actual deed itself. In fact, Swayze himself even said it was the sexiest thing he had ever done  on camera, and this is coming from the guy who put the dirty in dancing. Along with Moore's iconic haircut and sexy demure, and accompanying soundtrack of The Righteous Brothers, Unchained Melody, the scene has most definitely asserted itself as one of the steamiest in film history.

    11 Top Gun

It seems quite strange now to think of Scientology nut Tom Cruise as a robust desirable symbol to women all over the world, however there was a time that indeed he was, and the number one sexiest leading man to boot. With Top Gun, Cruise's probably the most favored film to date, the movie explores the relationship between a fighter pilot and his battle to the top. Offering a number of homoerotic themes, albeit by accident, Top Gun also has one of the most memorable scenes in history. Not quite as sexy as the others on the list, the scene itself is actually pretty funny. However, with Cruise and co-star Kelly McGillis adding that exceptional boost of chemistry, the accompanying soundtrack of 'take my breath away', also adds to the eluding content. Set to the backdrop of a blue silhouette, the movie is as eighties as it could possibly get. Definitely, one to behold.

    10 Black Swan

Directed by Darren Aronofsky, this psychological thriller is as spooky as it is incredibly sexy. Starring the ideal and beautiful pairing of Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis, the film revolves around a prestigious ballet school in New York City. Overwhelmed by the intense pressure of the ballet world, Portman suddenly turns a little crazy, with the added help of rival Kunis. However, although the movie was a success, garnering a number of awards, with Portman even picking up an Oscar for best actress, the film is most likely to be remembered for one thing, with that of Portman and Kunis getting intimate. Often voted as the sexiest scene EVER, the scene sees the overtly shy Portman being fully seduced by the not so timid Kunis. Just under 2 minutes long, the scene has often been criticized for appealing more to a male market than to the necessity of the plot line itself, however, with a variety of supporters coming from the LGBTQ community praising its direction, you will have to watch to judge for yourself.

    9 Atonement

Based on the popular novel of the same name, Atonement stars the princess of period pieces herself Keira Knightly and the ever charming Scottish scorcher James McAvoy. Teaming up as the passionately charged star-crossed lovers, who are seemingly incapable of finding a happy ending, the movie caused quite stir upon its release. Often ranked as one of the most romantic movies of all time, Atonement is actually quite raunchy for your average period drama. Receiving a number of awards and nominations, Atonement was also positively welcomed by a variety of critics. With the two leads giving the steamiest of performances, the chemistry between the pair is exhilarating, even with Knightly admitting that she felt extremely awkward filming the majority of the scenes. Famed for its erotically intense script, especially with regards to the library scene, the movie surprisingly encourages its erotica rather than trying to hide it away. Tissues at the ready! For crying that is.

    8 Cruel Intentions

A movie that strangely makes you feel like taking a shower after watching it, Cruel Intentions is so raunchy you spend half the time not knowing where to look. Sweaty, sultry and a number of other S words that seemingly fit so well, it is one scene in particular that vehemently stands out from the rest, and no it's not the saliva soaked kiss that Sarah Michelle Gellar and Selma Blair famously embarked on. Famed for being the most famous cherry popping scene in film history, real life lovebirds Ryan Phillippe (Sebastian) and Reese Witherspoon (Amanda) let the audience in on their actual bedroom antics. Rightly displaying some extraordinary tension between the pair, audiences were captivated by a real life Hollywood couple actually doing it right there on the screen. With the couple later going on to marry and having two children, they later unfortunately split in 2008. Oh well, we'll always have Cruel Intentions.

    7 Jungle Fever

Exploring the concepts of race between a number sparring communities, Spike Lee's Jungle Fever also displays the uncommon theme of an interracial relationship, rarely seen in film. After embarking on an affair with a white woman, the married Flipper, played by the magnetic Wesley Snipes, encounters a number of racial prejudice with regards to his newly found position. However, despite highlighting discrimination among all races, Jungle Fever also holds one of the sexiest scenes in film, with Wesley Snipes once again proving why he is ultimately relished around the world. With an extraordinary amount of flirting leading up to an even bigger amount of tension, the pair finally get it on right there in the office, all while tearing off each other's clothes in the process. Igniting that old age fantasy of getting it on at work, Jungle Fever captures the intensity and random explosion of acting out your deepest darkest daydreams.

    6 Bound

With it somewhat difficult for Hollywood to portray same gender relationships in a positive light, it is even more infuriating to see how they so often display their love lives. Usually made by men, for men, all while pandering to the male gaze and the expectations of what men seemingly think goes on in the bedroom of two women in a relationship, it is rare to see a Hollywood movie somehow get it right. However, with Bound succeeding in its endeavors, the scene in question has gone on to become one of the most famous of all time. Enlisting the help of a real life lesbian sexologist, directors, the now out trans directors Lana and Lilly Wachowski, intended the scene to be as realistic as possible yet still sexy as hell. With the two leads displaying an enormous amount of chemistry between them, Gina Gershon and Jennifer Tilly will be forever famed for succeeding in what so many had failed to do before them.

    5 Brokeback Mountain

Based on the adaptation of Annie Proulx's short story of the same name, Brokeback Mountain is so much more than the 'gay cowboy movie' stereotype that has seemingly stuck with it. Starring the late great Heath Ledger (Ennis) and fan favorite Jake Gyllenhaal (Jack), the movie explores the themes of forbidden love within extreme masculine constraints. After what seems like a lifetime of tension, in which the two leads exhibit a wonderful amount of chemistry between them, Jack and Ennis finally get it on, giving in to that unquestionable magnetic pull that has forced them together. Set against the sleepy backdrop of the Wyoming desert, the setting almost acts as a character alone, asserting itself as a sort of protector while they open themselves up to rejection and self-hatred. Able to make the toughest of us weep, the scene is as emotional as it is powerful, tastefully portraying a love affair, with it being between two men making no difference at all.

    4 Eyes Wide Shut

Sold as an erotic film drama based on the explicit novella Traumnovelle (Dream Story), Eyes Wide Shut had already prepared its audience for what was about to come. Much like Cruel Intentions, the movie starred real life lovebirds Nicole Kidman and Tom Cruise, however, cherry popping it clearly wasn't, with the erotica level most definitely turned up a notch or two. Directed by Stanley Kubrick, the film explores the themes of roaring passion, after the main character, Dr. Bill Harford (Cruise) finds out that his wife Alice (Kidman) nearly embarked on an affair earlier on into their relationship. Shocked that such a woman could think anything of the sort, Cruise embarks on a night of retaliation. Controversial in some aspects, the movie received negative feedback due to the way in which women were seen as just objects, ready in waiting for the male gaze. However, garnering worldwide interest, especially as the two leads were doing it in real life as well as on-screen, the movie has become somewhat of a cult favorite.

    3 Y Mama Tu Tambien

Taking bromance to the next level, Alfonso Cuarón's Y Tu Mamá También centers on the story of two teenage boys who pick up an older, albeit beautiful, woman during a road trip. Illustrating a number of themes such as exploration and sensual satisfaction, the tension between the 3 actors is exceptional with regards to physical chemistry. After a night of downing shots and a number of tequilas, the boys begin to get more acquainted with the lady that they have just picked up. Proceeding to take the two boys back to her hotel room for a night they'll never forget, Cuarón makes sure we don't either, offering one of the most thrilling scenes in film history. Controversial upon its release, the movie was accused of filtering on the lines of adult film disguised as erotica, however with an intricate plot line and a talented bunch of actors, especially that of Gael García Bernal, the movie wholeheartedly proves otherwise.

    2 Don't Look Now

Did they? Or didn't they? That is the question. Renowned for their antics on screen, the scene in Don't Look Now has sparked controversy ever since. Starring Julie Christie and Donald Sutherland as grieving parents due to the death of their daughter, the movie explores a number of dark and depressing scenes. With one scene, in particular, displaying the rawness and intensity of the act itself, it has gone down in history as one of the most intimate scenes upon the silver screen. However, due to the realistic and passionate way in which it was filmed, the scene has often evoked a number of rumors in that the two leads were actually doing the dirty for real instead of just acting. Exceptionally graphic for the early seventies in which it was released, the movie was also vilified for its depiction of mouth business, just as Blue Valentine was over 30 years later. Some things never change huh?

    1 Do The Right Thing

Set over the course of 48 hours during a monstrous heat wave in New York City, Do the Right Thing is one of the most underrated movies of all time. Directed by Spike Lee, the movie explores a number of themes with relations to race and violence. However, although holding such a cultural relevance to society and movie goers as a collective, Do the Right Thing also portrays one of the sexiest scenes in film history. Sizzling and systematically steamy, Do the Right Thing puts the explicit into… erm, sexually explicit, sparking a number of reenactments around the world. With the sun blazing causing tensions to rise, the main character Mookie goes to visit his girlfriend with the intention of cooling down, so to speak. Using ice as a form of motivation, much like the way food was represented in 9 1/2 Weeks, the camera slowly allows its audience to watch every move, without turning away once. Searingly satisfying.
