15 Casey Affleck
Via Fansshare
Fresh off the Oscar award stage is Casey Affleck. While his abuses and harassments have been mentioned in brief footnotes in interviews before, it wasn't until the last couple years that his actions have really been discovered and discussed. On his film entitled I'm Still Here, the women who were actively working on it came out with stories about unending physical advances, inappropriate name calling, and encouragement from Affleck to the crew members to have them expose themselves in front of the women. Not only that but as the women on set started to defend themselves and speak up against the harassment, Affleck would get more hostile and more degrading, eventually turning verbally abusive and unprofessional (for example, not upholding promises of their contracts). No matter what they did he got worse and worse until finally the project ended and the women sued him. He settled during mediation, though that doesn't mean the actions themselves have settled. We think his treatment of his working equals was nasty, disgusting, and unacceptable. We hope he got help and no one is put in the same position again.
14 Mark Wahlberg
Racism is the name of his game, but it goes deeper than bad jokes and prejudice. Mark Wahlberg was horrifically violent as a young man and got caught many times over acting violently towards people of color. In his early teenage years, he not only threw rocks at a group of African-American school children but also yelled racial slurs at them as they were on a field trip. Just a year later, at 16, he got caught beating up 2 Vietnamese-American men as they were walking around. While these two men were separate instances, it was fueled by the same disgusting hate Wahlberg felt for all POC. He also was spewing racial slurs and violent threats at these men as he beat them, leaving them for dead and getting caught and arrested shortly after. Talk about a nasty person-- We're glad he served time, but we're also upset that he held on to his fame.
13 Rick James
A little worse than any form of assault is kidnapping and torturing. In terms of women being abused by men, this list is ripe with examples of terrible people in the entertainment industry. The one who takes the cake, though? Rick James. This classic R&B singer was integral to the contemporary development of funk and was often working both as a singer/songwriter as well as behind the scenes with artists like The Temptations and Teena Marie. How did someone who brought so much joy bring so much pain? Illegal substances. Falling deep into a drug addiction, he ended up losing himself and his notoriety. Under the influence of a certain white substance, he kidnapped and tortured two women, one of them for 20 hours straight and the other one for 12 hours. Not only nasty but scary as well. We're glad no one has forgotten about this, though his work pre-addiction is still worth listening to.
12 Matthew Broderick
Did anyone hear about this nasty act? Bueller?… .Bueller? That's what we thought. While this happened a few years ago now, it's worth mentioning because it's just so shocking. Many of us grew up with Ferris Bueller, wanting to be just like him and devising elaborate plots on ways we would skip school (when we hit high school). Unfortunately, Matthew Broderick is not Ferris Bueller. The character we know and love and the man who plays him are separate things. While Ferris never did anything too bad, Broderick certainly did. One time in Northern Ireland Matthew Broderick had been driving, when all of a sudden he found himself involved in a car accident. While we don't know if he was the cause, or just caught in the middle of it, two women ended up dying from the crash. Broderick was fined a little under $200, and it was never talked about again. Talk about nasty!
11 Sean Penn
Via Youtube
This weirdo with a funny mustache is actually capable of horrific abuse. When working with Madonna he was already in the process of being determined guilty for attacking a film extra. While we don't know if it was provoked or unprovoked, it's always nasty when someone in power goes and physically assaults someone else. It doesn't send a good message as a mentor or inspiration and usually leads to other negative actions too. In this case, Sean Penn went from attacking a film extra to sending Madonna to the hospital. Why? He hit her over the head with a baseball bat. No level of repentance excuses or forgives this level of abuse. We're glad he was charged with one assault, though we're not glad Madonna never charged him. While this was back in 1987, Sean Penn has done some humanitarian work since then. Because of how long ago it was and his actions since, we're pretty sure she'll never charge him. And that's a little nasty in and of itself.
10 Johnny Cash
This is the type of weird only Johnny Cash could pull off. Not only does it involve a ring of fire, it involves a symbol of America almost getting destroyed. So what happened? One day, while driving, his truck started to overheat. He kept going, pushing the truck to its limit in the same way he pushed himself. Eventually, he was forced to pull over, because the whole thing went up in flames. Did he call 911, fire, and AAA? Nope. He decided to step aside and let nature handle it. Unfortunately, nature couldn't handle it. His truck ended up burning a huge portion of the forest he was stopped beside, and with the trees went half of the ENTIRE POPULATION of California Condors! This bird species is now on the verge of extinction, all thanks to Mr. Johnny Cash. What was his penance? A fine that came in at less than $100,000 and the guilt of many bird souls on his conscience. What a nasty accident!
9 Chris Brown
Via Fansshare
If you have not heard of what Chris Brown did to Rihanna, you have been living under a rock. Seriously, it was one of the crazier moments surrounding celebs! Rihanna is a strong, outspoken lady, and so if she speaks out about something you know you should listen. It is probably important, and it is probably an issue that affects more than just her. That is true in this case, where Chris Brown was caught domestically abusing Rihanna, which immediately caused a media sensation and resulted in a lot of backlash for him. However, it was not enough for all his fans to drop him. Chris Brown went on to release another album and still works periodically today. The more time passes the more people seem to forget, which sucks. Nasty actions like domestic abuse should never be forgiven or forgotten, which is why we have added him to our list.
8 Mike Tyson
Via Fansshare
What is it with the media and people who take advantage of others without their consent? Any form of assault, harassment, and nonconsensual survivors are constantly dealing with the emotional, social, and physical healing of their experiences while the perpetrators more often than not walk around scot-free. Or, worse than that, they become media sensations and household names. Fighter Mike Tyson is one of these people, being convicted of taking advantage of people physically without their consent and serving a three-year sentence. On top of this low prison time and successful post-conviction career, he also had Trump, the current president, defending him. Talk about nasty! We hate that this heavyweight champion has been so successful despite paying for his crime. The only thing we can do is make sure we don't forget and keep the conviction from becoming a footnote (like so many other assault cases). This is just the worst.
7 Rebecca Gayheart
Via Fansshare
What's the one thing that makes every sick to their stomachs, regardless of whether you've got a heart, empathy, or care about anything at all? Dead kids. While oftentimes they're just the product of horror movies and scary stories, they also happen in real life. It's more horrifying when they're real kids really dying, and probably more haunting too. This is why Rebecca Gayheart is probably so upset about it still. She ran over a child, albeit by accident, back in 2001 in LA. The young boy was crossing a street outside of school when her truck hit him and took his life. The complications involved resulted in Gayheart paying for the funeral, and settling out of court with the family. This is particularly nasty because she has a family herself-- We can't imagine how nasty she must feel, but we also know that accidents happen. There's no doubt in our minds it was an accident, but it's still particularly gross.
6 Elvis
Via Pinterest
The King of Rock has gone down in history as one of the most influential and easily recognizable singers in all of music. Like many stars today, he also had a thing for younger women. And when we say young, we mean… Young. His ex-wife, Priscilla, was 14 when they met and started dating, which makes it all the more disturbing to hear about the young teenage girls he dated after their divorce. If he was already older when they met, imagine the age gaps when he was dating even younger girls! Want to know the nastiest part, though? He had a nickname for them. When he talks about Cherries in his songs or interviews, do you know what he's referring to? If you guessed “really young teenage girls”, you guessed right. A Cherry was his super young squeeze of the moment… Gives a whole new and nasty meaning to popping a cherry, eh?
5 Channing Tatum
Wonder boy of the ex-entertainer variety, it seems like this Magic Mike superstar can do no wrong. And while he hasn't done anything as bad as some of the people on this list, he's still got a bit of a dark past. In his young actor days, he was trying to gain notoriety and build a name for himself. When you're working with other up and coming actors, you think that the way to do this is through bonding. The more alliances you have in the world the more work you'll get, right? Tatum decided to bond with Shia LaBeouf, who ended up taking them on a wild ride. Getting into fights, vandalizing storefronts, and kicking in windows is all part of one “magical” night Tatum spent with LaBeouf… Until waking up the next day and realizing they were being totally stupid and incredibly disrespectful. Destruction of public property is nowhere near as bad as kidnapping, assault, or illegal substances, but it's still a nasty way to bond. And from such a nice guy!
4 Tim Allen
Actors might lead exciting lives full of travel and mystery, but it usually doesn't involve smuggling illegal substances and police. Allen somehow fell into this form of trade, and in 1978 was arrested for trying to take 650 grams of the white stuff. For those that don't know, in 1990 650 grams of this stuff would cost $180,700 US. You can imagine how much more it would have been worth ten years earlier too! That's a ridiculous amount of the substance, and a very dangerous one as well. This substance is the cause of many horrible addictions starting and can result in death. Tim Allen was actively involved in bringing this to more people and would have probably gotten paid quite a bit. He was facing a life sentence but ended up only serving a few years, getting released and going on to develop successful animations and TV shows. Maybe not as nasty as some other things we've heard of, but still pretty shocking.
3 Justin Bieber
Bieber is a nasty character ever since he hit it big and became famous. No longer the sweet boy from Canada who posted fun musical covers online, he turned into a racist-joke-telling, dreadlocked young adult most of us hate with a passion. The one action we're going to pin him for (because we had to pin him onto this list) is for taking his friend's car. While it wasn't quite as innocent as it sounds, that's the heart of the problem. Also part of this nasty issue is the fact that he was driving without a valid license, AND racing down big city streets. And it wasn't even with his own car! He was treating public property, private property, and people he cared about in a really nasty way… And that's not something that changes over time. While we hope he got the appropriate comeuppance, we wouldn't be surprised if he was still doing this. Nasty!
2 Johnny Depp
Depp might have played some nasty characters, but he also is a nasty person. Not to mention how he has not taken responsibility for anything he has done over the last few years. His treatment of Amber Heard, his ex-wife, is particularly nasty, not only being physically abusive but emotionally abusive too. He came home drunk one night and threw a phone at her face, taunting her and acting violent and rude towards her even with her yelling for help. It was not until a neighbor came into the apartment that Depp stopped hitting Amber Heard and instead smashed their possessions and ran out of the home. We can't trust Depp anymore, and with good reason. This nasty crime is enough to make our stomachs turn, and we wished more people were talking about it when it happened. Just like Chris Brown, these two have done such a nasty thing and it is hard to forget about!
1 Sacha Baron Cohen
Via Huffington Post
Tons of weird things appear at Fashion Weeks around the world, the strangest often coming from cutting edge places like Milan. But that doesn't mean it's a free for all style throw down, with anyone hopping up on stage like they own the lace. Sacha Baron Cohen, however, has interrupted official events twice like this, the nastiest being at Milan Fashion Week. In the middle of a runway display from a famous designer he decided (supposedly) film a scene for a coming movie. He dressed in a velcro suit covered in weird items and wore a blonde wig. He leaped on the runway and strut his stuff down the catwalk, and ended up getting escorted out by the police. The disrespect towards the designer and performance, and not to mention the safety concerns, was huge, and pretty nasty. While not violent or anything, Sacha Baron Cohen definitely deserves a spot on this list.
