15 Pics Of Celebs Who Don't Know How To Buy Shoes
Celebrities basically have enough money and connections that they could have everything tailored perfectly to their bodies. Sure, they can pick up designer goods off the rack, but they can enlist the help of a seamstress and cobbler and tailor to make sure they're looking their best, always. And while their stylist ensures their gown always fits them perfectly, it's a bit of a different story when it comes to their shoes.
There are a lot of rumours circulating about the reasoning behind celebrities rocking shoes that are too big on the red carpet, with some saying that it's so their feet don't get pinched or rubbed if they swell up a bit from walking the red carpet and standing for the paparazzi for too long. However, let's be honest - it looks kind of terrible. And shoes that are too small are an even bigger disaster. I mean, these celebrities have enough money that they could easily send someone from their team to pick up shoes in the right size. Surely, they shouldn't be having to squeeze their toes into sandals that are way, way too small, no?
The point is, for whatever reason, tons of celebrities end up getting caught with shoes that just look downright wrong. Here are 15 celebrities who, it seems, just don't know how to buy shoes.
15 Jessica Simpson
Strappy, barely there sandals can be extremely sexy, and are the perfect accompaniment to an outfit where you really want the focus to be on the clothing. A ton of celebrities like to rock them, including pop star Jessica Simpson. However, this photo proves the issue with wearing shoes like that when you know you'll be doing more than just walking a few feet down the red carpet - your toes slide. A lot. There's a ton of space between Jessica's heel and the back of her shoe, yet her toes are basically on the pavement. Not a cute look. I mean, at least the pedicure and jewellery is cute - maybe she knew that this was a risk with these shoes and decided to just own it? Either way, a slightly tighter fit may have helped the situation.
14 Julianne Moore
In a sea of blonde bombshells with bronzed skin, Julianne Moore is a breath of fresh air with her red locks and pale alabaster skin. And, though she's getting older, she doesn't let that stop her from absolutely slaying on the red carpet, time after time. In fact, she's normally so flawless, which makes this shoe misstep all the more surprising. Moore opted to rock some strappy, metallic platform sandals, and it's a good thing those ankle straps are keeping her feet in place, because otherwise she'd step right out of these. Somehow, they're both too big and too small - she has tons of room near her heel, yet her toes are literally escaping from the front. When your pinky toe is just wiggling around there mid-air, you know you have a shoe problem.
13 Adrienne Bailon
On the one hand, we understand the instinct to not want to complain and be a diva. The team bringing the shoes obviously got it a bit wrong when it came to dressing Adrienne for this photo shoot, but she tried to make the best of it and carry on without complaining. It's admirable, in a way. The only problem is, her feet are basically exploding from the sides of her shoes. It's basically like the moment in Cinderella where the evil stepsisters are desperately trying to shove their large feet into the tiny glass slipper. We understand that sometimes you can squeeze into shoes a half size smaller if they're super cute and you really want to make it work, but this is like… three and a half sizes too small.
12 Kristen Bell
At least Kristen Bell hasn't opted for sandals in this picture, which means she doesn't have to deal with the problem of her toes sliding out the front of her too big shoes. However, if you take a good look at her feet here, you'll notice why exactly the public is often so exasperated by celebrities wearing shoes that are too big. Bell looks super chic, her dress is adorable, and the pointed toe pumps are perfect - the only problem is, having so much space visible between the back of her foot and the shoe makes it seem like she's stolen a pair of her mother's heels and is wearing them on the red carpet, just like you used to do when you were a kid. It just ruins an otherwise fantastic look.
11 Kim Kardashian
Ah, the clear sandals. Everyone knows of Kim Kardashian and the clear sandals. Listen, we really admire Kim's devotion to footwear during her pregnancy. While many other women would have opted to rock flats and running shoes and more casual footwear for nine months, Kim was not about to give up her glamour just because she was pregnant. And for the most part, her shoes still fit just fine and she looked impossibly glam. This look was one of her few missteps. Listen, if they fit properly, these shoes would probably have been pretty cute with the neutral ankle strap and clear upper. It would have worked. Her toes aren't even hanging over the edge. But, unfortunately, those shoes are just cutting way, way too much into her feet. Ouch.
10 Lea Michele
This style of sandal is kind of hard to wear - normally, with almond-toe or pointed toe shapes, you'd be able to hide anything weird behind the fabric of the pump or boot. Your toes are just neatly tucked away up front. In these sandals, though, Lea Michele's two smallest toes are dangling off the edge, unable to make it onto the teeny front area of the shoe, and it's clear that they're too big by how far off the back her heel is. Look, we get it - she really wanted to pair her all red outfit with some red shoes for a whole red 'look' but it would have been smart to take a few extra minutes and find a pair that actually fit properly (and probably a lot more comfy than strutting your stuff on the red carpet with your toes hanging off the edge of your sandals).
9 Jennifer Lopez
Jennifer Lopez seems to get even more gorgeous as she ages, and she's never been one to shy away from taking fashion risks. She's more than willing to rock a look that is low cut or sparkly or skintight. There's not much she wouldn't wear - and from far away, these sparkly, pointed toe pumps seem like something she would look fantastic in. And they're great for the red carpet, where you often need to go big and take a bit of a risk in order to stand out from all the other celebrities. However, the shoes have a huge gap in the back, and you can tell they're squished in there in the front. They're gorgeous, yes, but it seems that Jenny From The Block could have really benefited from a size up.
8 Katie Holmes
Katie Holmes is absolutely gorgeous, and usually has such a sleek, chic sense of style. Recent fans would likely hardly recognize her in her earlier years, when she rocked more casual outfits. However, even Holmes can get a bad pair of shoes - like these sandals. The nude, strappy look is classic, and likely totally complemented her outfit from afar. However, when you look closely, all you can see is the way her big toes are hanging off the edge of the sandals. Seriously - why on earth hasn't someone invented some type of contraption that would make sure your toes stayed in place when you wanted to rock strappy sandals? The 'toes hanging over the edge' look is just so not cute. Maybe it would have worked out if that strap that ends abruptly above her toes would have gone in between, locking her feet in place?
7 Sarah Jessica Parker
Thanks to her years playing Carrie Bradshaw, the original shoe queen, everyone kind of expects SJP to be rocking amazing footwear 24/7. And she usually does - the woman is not afraid to take risks when it comes to her style, and is usually wearing heels that are absolutely stunning. However, this photo proves that even she can fall victim to the dreaded peep toe problem. These shoes look so classic, so effortless, and then the toe hanging out the front, coupled with the lack of pedicure, just ruins it all. Listen, we get it - usually when you're walking the red carpet, the photographers take a photo from far enough away that you can't see that much of your shoes. But unless you're wearing a floor length gown that covers your feet completely, you can still see them.
6 Ashlee Simpson
Ashlee Simpson isn't exactly a fashion icon, so the expectations aren't as high for her as for some other celebrities, but still - if you're exposing your feet on the red carpet, the very least you can do is try to make sure they're not covered with wounds. These sandals with thick leather straps actually fit well, and she doesn't have stray toes hanging over the edge like many of the other celebrities on this list. However, all we can see if the big scabs across the top of her feet, obviously from her feet being cut up by some shoes previously. When your feet are looking like this, it might be time to wear your comfiest boots or flats on the red carpet - just, you know, until they heal and all.
5 Holly Madison
One of the reasons we love Holly Madison is because she isn't afraid to indulge her inner nerd when it comes to dressing. She's worn Princess Leia buns, dressed up in Renaissance Faire and Game of Thrones gear, and wears shoes that have little poodles as heels. It's kind of refreshing in a sea of celebrities who are trying to hard to stay trendy in the latest designer gear. However, we have to take a look at those heels. Sweetheart. No. Book some time for yourself in your calendar and get to pampering those poor feet because it's painful just to look at them. This is what happens when you skip #selfcareSunday. Not even the pale pink poodles can distract us from those poor, hurting heels she's rocking in this picture.
4 Elle MacPherson
Supermodels are used to wearing shoes that aren't the right size because, well, sometimes a designer doesn't have the time to size up every model's foot before they walk down the runway. They take what shoes are available and try to make the best of it - it's their job, so they've trained themselves to be able to walk in shoes about everything. However, Elle MacPherson is retired now - there is absolutely no reason she needs to be squeezing her feet into pumps that are about two sizes too small. Yes, the shoes seem to be in a material that doesn't offer much give, but regardless - they're so tight we can practically feel them squeezing just by looking at this picture. She's such a gorgeous woman, wearing the wrong shoes just does her a total disservice.
3 Kate Beckinsale
Kate Beckinsale pretty much always looks utterly flawless. She's been in the business for quite a while now, and has a daughter who just graduated high school, but you'd never guess that based on how young and gorgeous she still looks. However, even Kate Beckinsale isn't immune to the dreaded sandal slip. These shoes are barely there, with nothing but a small upper and a little clear loop around the big toe to hold everything in place. The loop around the toe undoubtedly helps, but she still has the issue of her toes hanging off the front of the shoe. It just takes a gorgeous shoe and makes it look awful when this happens. We can't imagine you don't realize that your toes are hanging off after taking two trial steps in the shoe store.
2 Dakota Johnson
Okay, this isn't a shoe issue. Well, kind of - depends how you look at the situation. Dakota Johnson has obviously had enough with her uncomfortable shoes for the evening, and perhaps a few too many glasses of champagne, so she's decided to follow the example of intoxicated college girls everywhere and just remove the shoes altogether. When she's standing on a dirty curb. Her feet just out, getting dirty, all in full view of the paparazzi trying to capture a picture of the starlet. I mean, it's just a bad look. Ladies, when you go out, you make a commitment to your shoes - you don't take those suckers off until you're back and can lay your feet on your nice, clean flooring and not the dirty curb covered in who knows what.
1 Halle Berry
On the one hand, we have to commend Halle Berry for not getting shoes seven sizes too large - they're snug against the back of her foot, and not standing solo an inch away from it. That's great. However, a half size up may have been a good idea, because those shoes are really, really squeezing the sides of her foot. The fact that they're metallic gold just further brings attention to the issue. We get that certain shoe styles are more challenging than others, and these fall slightly lower on the sides than your average pump, but still - this is not a good look, period. It's lucky that Halle Berry is so unbelievably gorgeous that most people don't even notice her shoes, anyway - not when she has a face that literally seems to glow somehow.
