15 Pics Of Famous MEN Before And After Photoshop
It is widely known that women are always facing the pressures of society to stay look young and perfect, which is why it is no surprise that the beauty industry targets primarily women to sell their products (products that supposedly make them look young). On the other hand, the fashion industry is also widely known to Photoshop their models to make them picture perfect. These are the lies that make women have unrealistic beauty standards for themselves. However, such perfection is usually only possible when photos are digitally enhanced.
However, what not too many people know is that men are also under the pressure to remain look just as good. As you can see in this article, most of the alterations are done to hide the celebrity's real age. As a result, most of the men in these edited pictures look younger than what they actually are.
However, not all modifications that have been done to these famous men were to turn back the clock. Some were done to make them look buffer, more menacing, or bulkier. Either way, keep in mind that not everything that you see on the screen or in fashion magazines is real. The pictures you see here also goes to show that the fashion industry doesn't discriminate when it comes to who they “fix”.
15 Adam Levine
His beautiful wife, Victoria's Secret Angel Behati Prinsloo, might be used to having her photos modified and enhanced with digital software, but for someone like Levine, this might be new. He may not be a male model, but he's naturally handsome. So why exactly would someone go through the trouble of digitally modifying his face?
It seems like someone had the desire to make poor Adam Levine look like a robot. Do I really need to point out which one is the modified version? Of course, they're not the same photo. However, in the picture on the right, you can see how Levine normally looks. In the photo on the left, you can appreciate how Levine would look if he were acting in a film about androids.
His skin not only looks abnormally perfect, it seems like he's had more facelifts than Joan Rivers. His face also looks completely expressionless. And his usual spiky hair looks amazingly perfect. With not a hair out of place.
14 Jonathan Rhys Meyers
Even hunky men, like Jonathan Rhys Meyers, have been enhanced by the wonders of Photoshop. In the original picture on the left, you can see a handsome Jonathan, with some dark circles under his eyes, with some shadows caused by the harsh lighting, a pale skin color, and just some blemishes here and there. Nothing extraordinary, actually a pretty normal photo of a handsome guy.
But… . Things can always get better with Photoshop. So, of course, they wanted to make the average Joe feel horrible about themselves by publishing the enhanced photo of Jonathan. His skin color has been altered to slightly tanned, the dark circles under his eyes have been removed, and they've given his complexion a more even tone. Even his red T-shirt looks brighter. However, let's be honest, Jonathan looks pretty handsome even without those enhancements. We could only wish the fashion industry agrees.
13 Ryan Seacrest
This was a promo poster or ad Seacrest was featured in that was intended to make him look more… . Mmmm we don't know exactly. The guy is handsome, has nice hair, and his wrinkles make him look kind of wise. The photo on the right is how Seacrest normally looks, but on the photo on the left, you can see that his blonde locks have been darkened, many of his wrinkles have been removed and his face looks like it's been injected with a gallon of Botox.
He doesn't necessarily look bad in the edited version of himself, but he does look different. That and, of course, he's not smiling. Which is a shame really because Seacrest's smile is one of his trademarks. I can't speak for the world, but I can say that his natural looks are way better than the “enhanced” image. There were too many unnecessary things done to him that he didn't need done.
12 O.J. Simpson
Back in the 90s, when the O.J. Simpson trial was all over the news, the media went crazy trying to cover every aspect of the trial. But Time magazine might have gone a little bit too far by exaggerating this image of Simpson.
It's not that we're defending Simpson, whether he committed a crime or not is not the debate here, but his photo is. I'm not even sure if Photoshop existed back in the day, but a software was used to make Simpson look darker and more menacing for the Time magazine cover.
This actually got the magazine some criticism because they purposefully darkened the photo to make him look more evil. In the other photo, you see him standing with a straight face and no filters added. Just an ordinary possible murderer having his photo taken. But in the Time Magazine cover, he looks guilty AF, just because of the dark filter that was used. This picture of him looks more sinister, and you have to admit that it does sort of manipulate people's perspective when looking at that photo.
11 Justin Bieber
How can we forget this famous picture of Bieber? It was splattered all over the Internet making us all wonder, is Biebs really that fit? Well… . No! Granted, Bieber is known to hit the gym and workout pretty hard, we're not going to deny that. It's also evident that he has developed some muscles since his pre-teen years when he was just a little boy. However, you'd have to admit that even if Bieber has grown, he hasn't grown that much. Calvin Klein did him a huge favor by enhancing his body and, of course, his package. Soon after this ad of Bieber for Calvin Klein surfaced, so did the original photos of the famous singer. In the photo on the right, we can see he has bigger arms and more defined pectorals, but looking nothing like the enhanced photo of the right, where he looks way bigger and much stronger.
10 Clive Owen
He's a hot actor who really doesn't need Photoshop. But the Lancôme advertisers thought it was necessary to give him an even stronger jaw line, remove his wrinkles, his crow's feet, and give him an even skin tone. It looks like a refreshed version of Clive Owen, like he got a good night sleep before the photo for the ad was taken. As you can see, even handsome men are not considered perfect by the fashion and beauty industry. There always seems to be something they can make better.
Luckily for Clive, his fans love his natural version, and I bet most of them rarely got to see the edited version of him. We're not saying it is bad, he still looks smoking hot, but they did rejuvenate him a little bit. And here we thought that perpetual youth was only expected of women. See girls! Even guys get their wrinkles removed, as well.
9 Jon Hamm
You know him as the handsome ad executive from Mad Men. However, you just might need to get a second look at the photo on the left to notice that Hamm doesn't look EXACTLY like his character in Mad Men. Nor does he look anything like in the promo ad of the photo on the right.
It doesn't mean he looks like an entirely different person, but he looks more human without all the makeup on. Also, even if they cleared up his oily skin, he could still pass off as a 1950s matinee idol.
The man has aged gracefully, there's no doubt about that. But the digitally enhanced photo does make him look more attractive. I guess he looks a lot younger and hunkier. However he looks, fans will still love him. Because let's be honest, it's not like we're going to marry the man. So we're happy living with the fantasy of Photoshop and makeup.
8 Matthew McConaughey
It seems that the Dolce & Gabanna team weren't exactly pleased with the way McConaughey looked naturally, which is why they resorted to Photoshop to make him picture perfect. In the photo on the left, we can see that he has wrinkles around his mouth and droopy skin from his cheeks. His face also looks a bit more squared than in the photo on the right, which sort of makes him look 10 years younger.
In the edited photo, his skin looks much more smooth and even. No deep wrinkles on the side of his mouth, no droopy skin, and his face shape looks more triangular in shape. He looks stunning. But come on! Can a man his age really look like that without the power of Photoshop? Obviously not. But that's what fashion does, perpetuate an impossible image to live up to. Not even McConaughey can live up to the edited version of himself.
7 David Boreanaz
We first fell in love with him in Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Girls were so enchanted by his looks and acting skills that Boreanaz went on to star in his own TV series, Angel, where he plays an incredibly handsome vampire with a soul (which is what set him apart from the rest of his kind).
But according to the beauty industry, even handsome actors who play vampires (who tend not to age that much) still need the magic of Photoshop to make them look ageless. We do have to hand it out to Boreanaz, though, even after nearly 20 years since the TV series Angel first aired, Boreanaz, has managed to still look young. But apparently he still doesn't look young enough to avoid getting the Photoshop treatment. As you can see in the photo on the left, the guy looks pretty normal, with red spots, with a reddish hue, and a few wrinkles here and there. But if you look at the photo on the right, he looks like a vampire. Extremely even skin tone, no wrinkles, and unrealistically beautiful skin for a guy his age. He is 48 years old after all.
6 George Clooney
You'd think that some incredibly good looking celebs would be immune to getting their image fixed, huh? Think again. George Clooney is probably the pinnacle of masculinity and good looks. It doesn't matter how old Clooney is, he is exactly like fine wine - he only gets better with age. Yet some graphic designer thought that he could enhance his already stunning looks by darkening his hair and removing some wrinkles.
Seriously, look at both photos and tell me which one do you think he looks his best? The natural photo on the left? Or the edited version on the right? With the photo on the right, he looks too processed, like the McDonald's version of the natural Clooney. They may have retained his wrinkles, but they make him look much more masculine and interesting. Besides, how can it be possible for a man in his 50s to not have wrinkles? That's simply impossible.
5 Thom Yorke
You're probably wondering, “Did this photo actually get the Photoshop treatment?” Well… . this is what makes this photo, in particular, fun. It may not look that different, but you have to really look for the details to see what has been changed. So, are you up to the challenge? Before you keep on reading, look at both photos closely and see if you can tell what has been changed. Afterward, keep on reading and we'll tell you the details.
The photo on the left is the original one, the photo on the right is the modified version. If you take a closer look, you can see that his nose has been reduced on the modified version. In the photo on the left, his nose is slightly crooked to the right and his nose trills are bigger. However, they decided to change this in the edited version, making it smaller and straighter.
His eyes have also been widened. In the original photo, he has bedroom eyes, but in the modified version, it looks like he has drunk his morning coffee. His right ear has also been shrunk in size and made less protuberant. These may be tiny changes, but they actually make a big difference.
4 Seth Meyers
If you think that women are the only ones who are subjected to the grueling societal demands of staying youthful looking even during middle age, you're wrong. The entertainment industry will also try to portray a youthful image of male entertainers. This edited promotional photo shows that wrinkles are also edited from male entertainers.
Meyers' wrinkles were evidently cleared out by a graphic designer to make him look younger, even though it doesn't really have an impact on viewers. They couldn't care less if the comedian has a few wrinkles or not. His expressions are what give strength to his comical words. The effects of aging are unavoidable and will leave a mark on someone's face in the form of wrinkles. Yet, these wrinkles seem to be a sin for fashion insiders, and so, they are the first ones to go when an image gets enhanced.
3 Alec Baldwin
Funny man Alec Baldwin has been completely changed in this digitally enhanced photo of himself (left). He not only looks 20 years younger, he also looks almost artificial. Seriously, is it really physically possible to naturally have no visible pores, perfectly smooth and wrinkle-free skin, and such an even complexion at the age of 59? As if that were not enough, they also changed his hair color, from gray to brown. This, of course, can be attributed to hair dye. We don't know if it was the graphic designer's work or the work of a hair stylist. Either way, we can accurately say that Baldwin has turned back the clock thanks to the magic of Photoshop.
Yes, he looks handsome. We couldn't possibly deny that, but we also know that it's a far cry from the truth. You can't blame anyone for thinking that this digitally enhanced photo could be real 20 years ago. But there's also no denying that the actor has aged since then.
2 Usher
Black people have been blessed with amazing skin. They tend to age more gracefully than white people. Usher is a clear example of just how well he has aged. The famous musician is nearly 40 years old but he doesn't look a day over 30. Granted, of course, that he's still not perfect. In fact, no one is. He has some dark circles under his eyes and a couple of wrinkles on his forehead. But even the amazing Usher is not exempt from these ridiculous edits.
If we compare the photo on the right with the enhanced photo on the left, we can see that the editor deleted his wrinkles (seriously, what's so bad about wrinkles?) and the dark circles under his eyes. His skin tone also seems to glow, as if it had been applied with a light golden face cream. Of course! If it looks too perfect to be true, it's because it's not true.
1 Ian Somerhalder
Remember The Vampire Diaries? Then you probably remember, and probably fell in love with Ian Somerhalder, the ageless, and immaculately looking man who portrayed the part of Damon Salvatore to perfection. It might not be an exaggeration to say that if vampires were real, they would probably look like Somerhalder. The pale white skin, the piercing blue eyes, and the sexy smile make him the perfect package.
We are thankful that such a man is real and not just the product of film animation. But in the case of this photo, the graphic designer didn't really focus on changing Somerhalder's facial features, wrinkles or skin tone. The enhancing was done in making him seem more fearsome, by adding extra shades and intensifying the contrast of his skin-tone and his hair. Finally!! It's about time someone used Photoshop to make someone look authentic.
