15 Reasons Why It's Dangerous To Date Taylor Swift
Oh, T-Swift. Our love/hate relationship with Tay-Tay started way back in 2006, when she released her first album and became a country sensation at just 17 years old. With more than a decade of success under her belt, Taylor has reached unfathomable fame. Her net worth is estimated at over $250 million, and she's not yet 30. This superstar, however, is known for more than her catchy songs and poppy rhymes.
That's right, little Miss Swift is a notorious serial dater. Her list of past loves includes John Mayer, Joe Jonas, Taylor Lautner, Harry Styles, Calvin Harris and most recently, Tom Hiddleston. Love 'em and leave 'em seems to be her modus operandi, or perhaps Taylor has some secret, unlovable qualities that lead these men to run for the hills? Most of her break-ups have resulted in heated "he said, she said" scenarios that are blasted across the press, making her dating life somewhat dramatic and definitely full of soap opera elements. Not to mention, she writes a song about almost every ex, rarely painting them in a favorable light.
So what is it really about Taylor that keeps so many men on their toes? She has an irresistible style that men are attracted to, but it comes with a price! Heartbreak, career sabotage and reputation ruin are just some of the side effects of dating Tay. Some have even said she is prone to violent outbreaks, yikes! Let's take a look at the 15 Reasons Why It's Dangerous to Date Taylor Swift.
15 Your Private Life Will Be Anything But Private
Dating Taylor Swift is a surefire way to get some media coverage. Her past dates have notoriously been photographed and spread all over the tabloids. We all remember the somewhat staged photos of the "perfect date" with Tom Hiddleston; the pair cuddling and kissing on ocean-front rocks in Rhode Island. The truth is, going out with the world's most famous pop star comes with some conditions. You will never be free of people trying to photograph your every step. For the fame-hungry, scoring a date with Tay is like winning the jackpot. For those who value their privacy, however, a brush with this intensively public life can have a more detrimental effect. Perhaps this is one of the reasons that Taylor seems to jump from one guy to the next in such a short period of time?
14 She Will Over-Share on Instagram
On top of worrying about your photo being snapped by paparazzi hiding in the bushes, you will also have to deal with Taylor's Instagram feed. That's right, she loves to share cheesy, staged-looking photos of her romantic life. Remember the time she and (then beau) Calvin Harris went on a romantic trip to the islands? Of course you do, because she Instagrammed every moment of it! In a collection of (now deleted) pics, Taylor and Calvin were seen kissing on the beach in unnatural poses, posing with Sea-Doos and writing their initials in the sand. The whole spread screamed "publicity stunt" and the pair ended up breaking up shortly thereafter. Be warned, if you accept a date with Tay, you might be the next Instagram model on her feed.
13 She Will Share All The Dirty Details With Her Girl Crew
Oh yes, Taylor's girl squad. For the last several years, Taylor has acquired quite a collection of young model, actress and singer friends. From Cara Delavigne to Blake Lively, Tay takes her crew pretty seriously. Her girl group seems to grow by the minute; Selena Gomez, Emma Stone, Karlie Kloss, Kendal Jenner… if you are an "it" girl under the age of 30, this gang is for you! In theory, there is nothing wrong with a girl having a close group of friends. Be warned, however, that Taylor's group will protect her like a savage group of hyenas. These girls won't let just anything fly, and your relationship with Tay-Tay will likely be discussed, dissected and scrutinized from day one. So whatever you do, just know that your private actions will be known to an elite group of young starlets.
12 She Will Probably Stray
As much as we want to side with Taylor, and believe that she is an honest gal, her romantic leaps from one guy to the next make us a little bit uneasy. Not one to take any time off from a relationship before jumping into the next often indicates that the new guy was around before the old guy was sent packing. Without going into too much detail, we have our suspicions about what went down with Harry Styles and Calvin Harris. Both of these guys were left in the dust, only to be replaced by Conor Kennedy and Tom Hiddleston, respectively. Miss Taylor seems to be a bit of a two-timer! Oddly enough, she has blasted more than one ex-boyfriend in songs about cheating allegations and infidelity. Seems like a classic case of the pot calling the kettle black!
11 She Will Write A Song About You
If you're one of the lucky ones, Taylor will write a super romantic hit about you while you're dating. Think "You Belong With Me" or "Fearless". Mess with her and you'll get something way more vicious like "Blank Space" or "Picture to Burn". Although her songs are great, you probably don't want to be "the guy" she is referring to in her angst-fueled pop hits. As an artist, she has the creative liberty to say what she wants, about whoever she wants, in her songs. The tricky thing is that Tay is sly. She will write a song that is all-telling, but not name names. This leads us to speculate "whodunit", and try to piece together timeframes and patterns. Fun for fans, awful for exes. Taylor's song-revenge game just keeps getting stronger, too, so don't think you can cross her and get off easy!
10 You Will Never Be Her Equal
It's the 21st Century, and perfectly wonderful when women make more money than their partners (in fact, this should happen more!). There is still a huge pay gap between men and women, and that's uncool. Taylor, for one, doesn't have that problem. She makes an estimated $150 million dollars per year, with a net worth of close to $400 million. Yikes! At 27 years old, she is one of the highest-grossing musicians of our generation. This is great for Tay, but not so great for her prospective dates. Anyone who is in the entertainment industry, dating Taylor, will have to live in her successful shadow. You just can't compete with her level of success. If you have a regular sized ego, or don't feel threatened by powerful, successful women- you're in luck. Otherwise, you will likely have issues.
9 She's Catty and Will Probably Drag You Into Her Feuds
It's no secret that Miss Swift has harboured quite a collection of Hollywood feuds. She is famously enemy to Katy Perry (some Swift experts claim that "Bad Blood"' was written for her), Kanye West, Nicki Minaj, Justin Bieber, Pharrell Williams, Orlando Bloom, and pretty much every One Direction fan ever. Isn't it exhausting to carry so much resentment around, T-Dog? The reality is, Taylor might have a big girl bank account, but she certainly lacks maturity and class. Date this girl and be prepared to hear enemy status updates on the daily. Because Taylor is so clique-y, you would probably have to jump on her hate bandwagon before being considered for a date. Save yourself the trouble; no one needs Taylor-level drama in their lives.
8 She Won't Have Much Time For You Anyway
Let's be real, here. Taylor Swift is a busy gal. Between world tours, interviews, friend-time with her model posse, family commitments and spending time at one of her six homes (yes she has six homes!) Taylor won't have a lot of free time to spend with you. Not only that, the time you do spend together will likely be super scheduled and possibly anywhere in the world, which leaves little time for relationship stability or a hectic schedule of your own. Unless you are really down with the jet-set, anything-goes life of the rich and famous, prepare to have some moments of frustration when you can't just walk down the street and meet your girl for brunch. It would take a master scheduler and creative genius to keep this relationship fresh and fun without getting too discouraged.
7 She's Really Insecure
Admittedly, everyone has their own insecurities, but Taylor Swift gives new meaning to the word. The girl has major trust issues, can't maintain a healthy relationship, defines herself by her relationships and generally seems to have a penchant for unsuitable partners. Instead of working on her deep-rooted issues, Taylor seems to be using the codependent approach: serial dating scrubs who aren't great for her, over and over. Some additional self-love would go a long way for Tay. Instead of watering her garden of enemies and harbouring grudges against almost everyone, she should do some meditation, write out her feelings in a journal and do activities that don't involve resenting herself and others!
6 Her Expectations Are WAY Too High
We love that Taylor is a hopeless romantic, but unfortunately, it has proved detrimental in her dating life. It seems that Taylor was always the dreamy-head-in-the-clouds girl who truly believed her Prince Charming would show up one day on a white stallion. While this is a nice fairytale, (I am also admittedly a hopeless romantic! I get it!) perhaps her judgement has been a bit blurred by the fantasies of youth. Yes, romance exists. Yes, you can find a guy who will want to sweep you off your feet. He might not have a horse, though, and you can't hold him against the standards you've read about in romance novels. Even the most "perfect" guy will not fit the unrealistic model that society has created. Instead of focusing on the grandiose, Taylor should celebrate the little things more often.
5 She Will Get Too Serious Too Quickly
One of the main reasons that Taylor is unsuccessful in her dating life is her need for speed! The girl doesn't know how to step back and let a relationship progress naturally. God forbid she let's a man actually pursue her. Oh, no, not Tay. She calls the shots and is about 100 steps ahead of any man she sets her sights on. She goes from zero to 100 in a heartbeat, and has this idealistic attitude at the beginning of each new relationship that her new guy is really "the One". History has proved that to be untrue, but poor Taylor never seems to learn her lesson. Slow down Taylor, slow down! This girl needs to learn how to let a man wine and dine her, tap into her mysterious side and not give it all up so quickly.
4 She Needs to Give Up Her Neediness
Another relationship killer: being too needy. This goes hand-in-hand with Taylor's unrealistic expectations and ideals of the perfect relationship. She expects her men to give her attention, and lots of it. Rumour has it that she gets extremely jealous if her man is talking to/texting/looking at/noticing another woman (this must get exhausting). Another side effect of poor self esteem and low self worth, Taylor could easily increase her confidence by letting go of the reigns a bit. It seems that all of these behaviours stem from a bit of a… controlling personality? Not trusting her partners while expecting them to save her from herself will always lead to disastrous endings.
3 You Will Have To Get Her Family's Approval
This wouldn't be that abnormal, if we were discussing anyone other than Taylor Swift. Can you imagine, though, having to go home to win the approval of the Swifts? Clearly, her father has at least something to do with her unrealistic expectations in love. We don't know the dirty details of how Scott Swift contributed, but it more than likely was either by reinforcing to Taylor that she deserved top treatment, OR, the total opposite. Maybe he was a bit absent with his emotions, not spending enough time bonding with his daughter, which led her to having a mountain-sized pile of daddy issues. One can only wonder. Nonetheless, the Swift family seem to be pretty protective of their Taylor, and can't possibly be an easy bunch to win over. I mean, they already have 96 exes to compare you to.
2 She's Pretty Basic
Not to totally dis Tay, but she definitely falls into the "basic" category. Following all the trends, surrounding herself with all the prettiest girls, eating at the most popular restaurants and wearing the most fashion forward outfits are all part of her game. She is far from unpredictable and doesn't do anything that is particularly original or inspirational. Yes, she's got great stage cred and her songs are poppy and fun. There is no denying that the girl can sing, and dance and perform. But, what else? Taylor is simply not that original in terms of what she brings to the table on an individual level. Dating Taylor would be a lifetime of uninspiring, basic moments with a very rich and bratty girl.
1 She Might Use You As A Marketing Tool
Here's another thing to consider. While Taylor might not be lucky in love, she is a pro at marketing. Isn't it totally fathomable, then, that she might be using her reputation as the "love 'em and leave 'em" girl to her advantage? We know that scandal sells, and Taylor and her team of people definitely know that too. So if you were a fame-hungry 20-something millionaire, what would you have to lose? It could be fun to play with some hearts to get more media attention! This, of course, is just a theory, but I would not be surprised to find out that at least some of her dozens and dozens of relationships were conveniently timed around album releases, movie releases (ahem, Twilight) and world tours. Just sayin'.
