15 Reasons Why The Kardashians' Popularity Is Fading Fast
The Kardashians splashed onto the scene back in 2006 when they scored their own reality show that focused on their charmed lives. Though the series was supposed to be a single-season replacement for another show that got the axe, KUWTK is still in production and the Kardashians are still taking the world by storm over a decade later. Let's be honest, there isn't a single person that can say they haven't heard of the Kardashians (and if they do then they're totally lying). This high-profile family has been riding the wave of insurmountable fame for what feels like forever. They have become so rich and powerful that nearly seemingly nothing could stop them from gaining momentum… until now. While they still have more social media followers than most other celebs combined (for now), the Kardashians have seen a prominent decline in ratings for their TV show and there are many other clear indicators that their time as Hollywood hottest commodities may be over a lot sooner than we all anticipated. It looks like this family's fifteen minutes of fame is finally about to run out, and they have no one to blame but themselves for their tarnished brand. Here are 15 reasons why the Kardashians popularity is fading incredibly fast.
15 We've Seen Them Naked Too Many Times
You might not even remember it, but there really once was a time when it was considered pretty much taboo for a celebrity to be seen without clothing. A-list stars who wanted to be taken seriously by the media and the general public decided that keeping their birthday suits private was best for their careers, but the Kardashians changed all that. These days, seeing your favorite celeb wearing next to nothing is the new normal, and we have none other than the Kardashians to thank for it. While at first seeing Kim strip down for a photoshoot or in a revealing X-rated "home movie" had a major shock factor, we've pretty much seen every member of the Kardashian family naked so many times that their ability to bare all has definitely lost its luster. At this point, Kim and her sisters would probably get more attention if they kept their clothes on because we have become totally immune to seeing every nook and cranny of their bodies plastered all over social media. Everyone is beyond tired of the same old attention-seeking behavior that the Kardashians consistently pump out, and it's a large part of why their popularity is rapidly declining.
14 They Are Famous For Literally Nothing
Let's face it: when it comes to talent… these girls don't really have any. Aside from their expert ability to take selfies, the Kardashians aren't exactly qualified to be big time celebrities. They can't sing, they can't act, and they don't have any actual life skills outside of having an exuberant amount of social media followers. With such a lackluster resume, it makes us wonder why these people are even famous in the first place. Sure, Kim skyrocketed to fame after the release of her "private" tape with Ray J, but it's been over a decade and the Kardashians are still trying to ride the fame wave all the way to the bank. Of course, Keeping Up with the Kardashians is what really put this family on the map. But ratings for the reality show continue to steadily decline with each passing season, proving once and for all that being famous for simply being famous can only get you so far. If it weren't for the rise of reality television and social media, the Kardashians totally wouldn't be the mega-stars they are today. It's only a matter of time before people grow even more tired of their meaningless careers and realize that the Kardashians aren't really worth keeping up with anymore.
13 They Are Too Fake For Their Own Good
Of course, celebrities are known to get a nip here and a tuck there, but the Kardashians take their obsession with perfection to the extreme. The Kardashians have become so infatuated with getting work done that they have become too fake for their own good… and it's totally damaging their brand. Anyone who has seen a before and after photo of any of the Kardashian or Jenner women can't deny that they've all had their fair share of work done. Between Kim and Khloe's ever-expanding backsides to Kylie's overdone lips, most members of the Kardashian family have become caricatures of their former selves. While it's true that image plays a major role in why people were interested in the Kardashians in the first place, they have made themselves look so unrealistic that their physical attributes are actually working against them instead of for them. We can all see right through their charade, and it's a primary reason why they are losing popularity by the day.
12 Their Overly Dramatic Lives Are Tiresome
Alright, we'll admit it: keeping up with all things Kardashian actually used to be enjoyable, but now trying to stay up-to-date on their chaotic lives sounds more like a chore than a guilty pleasure. There have been so many elaborate storylines and insane attempts at getting noticed made by this family that we can't help but roll our eyes at the thought of another outlandish headline featuring the Kardashian name. Between all of the Rob and Blac Chyna drama, the ongoing saga between Kylie and Tyga, the back and forth disputes between Kris and Caitlyn and the repeat desperation of Kourtney, Kim, and Khloe, it's safe to say that everyone has grown tired of their exaggerated attempts at remaining relevant. Their once-charmed lives have gotten so boring to the public that the episodes of Keeping Up with the Kardashians which chronicled the aftermath of Kim's Paris robbery were met with some of the lowest ratings the series has ever seen. The truth of the matter is that the Kardashians have completely lost their shock value. Nothing about them manages to surprise us anymore because at this point it feels like we've already seen it all. People just assume that everything they do is a calculated publicity stunt, and it's one of the many reasons why we're all yawning instead of fawning over the Kardashians like we used to.
11 They're Too Self-Absorbed
Vapid, shallow, self-important, entitled. Yup, these are all real things that the Kardashians have been referred to. Every single member of the Kardashian clan is entirely too wrapped up in themselves for their own good and their self-obsessed attitudes are a main reason why people are losing interest. Why do they even need fans when they are their own biggest advocates? Anyone who has ever seen an episode of KUWTK or has stumbled upon one of their social media accounts knows that they are all super into themselves. There is rarely ever a moment where they aren't making kissy faces into the camera or staring aimlessly into their phones, probably Googling themselves for the millionth time in a day. Kim and her sisters put way too much emphasis on their hair always being in place, their makeup always being on point and their butts always being bigger than the competition. It's easy to see that this family is insanely ego-centric, and their narcissism is exactly what's killing their popularity.
10 They're Terrible Role Models
Is there really even an argument for this one? The Kardashians may be a lot of things, but "positive role models" definitely isn't on the list. This famous family has made a career out of looking good and doing whatever it takes to stay in the spotlight. Whether they are faking relationships or stripping down to skimpy bikinis just to stay relevant, the Kardashians always go above and beyond for the sake of fame. These stars are super vapid and always focus their attention on looking good and pretending they're perfect at all costs. There's no nice way to say it, but the Kardashians aren't exactly the kind of public figures you would want your young daughter to look up to. There are so many other celebrities who are better suited to be role models than these ladies, and it's not hard to see why. Money, fame, selfies, and dating rappers and ball players are what make the Kardashian's world go round, and there are far more important things in life than any of that. In fact, the Kardashians are such poor role models that some people are downright disgusted by them all together. Their popularity is sinking like a stone, and they only have themselves to thank for it.
9 They Exploit Themselves
If there's one thing we can all agree on about the Kardashians, it's that they are completely overexposed. There are practically on the cover of every magazine in the grocery store check-out line and they are always making headlines for some outlandish publicity stunt. They constantly boast about the number of followers they have on Instagram or how many people stalk them on Snapchat. When it comes to their reality show, ratings are their main focus and they will stop at nothing to keep the paycheques coming… even if it means embarrassing themselves and exploiting members of their own family. No topic is off-limits when it comes to filming and some of the family's most personal moments have been captured for the entire world to see. Whether Kourtney was giving birth, Kim's marriage was falling apart, Lamar Odom was having a near-death experience or Caitlyn Jenner was going through a major life transition, nothing has proven to be sacred to this family. At some point they should probably focus on something more fulfilling than reality TV and social media stardom, because their overexposure is totally detrimental to their careers… and their well-being.
8 They're Totally Unrelatable
We have to admit, at one point the Kardashian's lavish lifestyle was probably what drew most of us in, but these days they are super impossible to relate to. Between lavish family vacations all over the world at the drop of a hat, traveling in private jets, endless amounts of work on themselves, and luxury car purchases that cost more than what most of us make in a decade, the Kardashians live a life that dreams are made of. While that's all well and good, there's little denying that this family is totally out-of-touch with reality and it makes it hard to relate to them on a personal level. Or any level for that matter. The Kardashians aren't exactly your typical girl-next-door types, and that makes it hard for fans to connect with them. Of course, some of their fans really look up to them and aspire to be just like them, but achieving that type of lifestyle isn't easy. It's entirely possible that this all-star brood is too rich and too famous to be perceived as likeable, and it's a huge reason why their popularity is fading away.
7 They Flaunt Their Wealth
Attention all members of the Kardashian family: we already got the memo. We know you have a whole lot of money. Whether they're showing off their sparkly diamond jewelry on social media, bragging about buying a custom-designed Bentley, or toting around a new limited edition Birkin bag, the Kardashians don't seem to be shy when it comes to flaunting their riches. Of course, the Kardashians are a seriously wealthy bunch - and for good reason. With a combined net-worth exceeding over $450 million this family is practically swimming in dough… and they'll be the first ones to make sure you don't forget it. After years of showboating their excessive funds on reality television and on social media, the Kardashians should have realize by now that money can't buy them respect - and people have had just about enough of their less-than-humble approach. After Kim K was robbed of her most expensive items during a Paris raid, the star vowed to change her ways, stating, “Material things mean nothing. It's not all about the money. It's not worth it.” So far, it doesn't seem like Kim or any other member of the Kardashian/Jenner fam has changed their ways, and their popularity is floundering because of it.
6 They're Bad Liars
The Kardashians have been caught in so many lies and scandals over the years that it's become increasingly hard to take them seriously. For starters, while most reality TV shows are far from realistic, the stars of Keeping Up with the Kardashians have been accused of faking scripted scenes of the show for years. Kim was even accused of faking an entire marriage by her ex-hubby Kris Humphries. Aside from the obvious, Kim and almost all of her famous sisters have been caught-red handed when it comes to Photoshopping social media photos of themselves to appear more slender. What's more, Kim even recently went as far as accusing people on the internet of digitally-altering her backside when those now-infamous bikini pictures while on vacation in Mexico were released earlier this year. As if all of that wasn't enough, Caitlyn Jenner also revealed that when she filmed her groundbreaking interview with Diane Sawyer in 2015, they specifically excluded mentioning the name "Kardashian" because studies have shown that people associate the moniker with a publicity stunt. All in all, the Kardashians might have built an incredible brand over the past decade, but it could all come crumbling down due to lack of credibility.
5 Their Love Lives Are Overrated
Let's face it, we were all rooting for Kim and Reggie Bush to go the distance, and we totally thought that Khloe had met her match when she married Lamar Odom. Of course, neither of those relationships were built to last and it seems like every member of the Kardashian family entered a competition to see who can have the most dramatic dating life ever since. Don't get us wrong, there was a time when watching the Kardashians break-up and make-up with their flavor of the week was actually entertaining, but now it's become downright overrated. The rollercoaster relationships that the Kardashians partake in have actually made certified celebrities out of people like Scott Disick, Blac Chyna, and Tyga to name a few, but we're all getting sick of keeping up with their bizarre love lives. Of course, the Kardashians know that their relationship issues are what keep them in the press at all times. We're well aware that the majority of their dating drama is amped-up for publicity and ratings… and it's just plain annoying. It's time for the Kardashians to face the music - enough is enough when it comes to their wayward romances.
4 They Set Unrealistic Body Standards
Being a female in this day and age is hard enough without having the added pressure to look picture perfect. It would be hard to deny that the Kardashians are a seriously good looking group of individuals, but their image is attributed to far more than just genetics. Whether they want to admit it or not, it's no secret that the Kardashians and the Jenners are huge fans of body enhancements. Kylie has come clean about getting collagen injections in her lips, Kourtney and Kris have revealed that they have had their chests augmented, and they pretty much all have fessed up to getting other things done at one point or another. On top of that, the Kardashians pretty much have 24/7 access to a team of hair and makeup artists who assure that they always look their best, and unlimited funds to buy whatever products or procedures that make them feel better about themselves. Of course, let's not forget that the Kardashians are no stranger to heavily Photoshopping pictures of themselves. If you add all of that together it's easy to see how the Kardashians are setting unhealthy and unrealistic expectations when it comes to their aesthetic. Their plumped-up rear-ends and constantly promoting the use of waist-shapers are just prime examples of why the Kardashian era is coming to an abrupt end.
3 They Can't Sell Magazines
With millions of fans and followers across the globe, you would probably think that the Kardashians are capable of selling just about anything, right? Well… think again. In 2015 alone, popular magazines such as Cosmopolitan, Glamour, and GQ all saw a dramatic drop in sales on issues that featured someone from the Kardashian family on the cover. It's true, numbers reached a record low for magazine sales every time the cover girl was a Kardashian or a Jenner. So what does this mean for the Kardashian legacy, exactly? If this isn't a major sign that their popularity is fading fast then we're not sure what is! It's an embarrassing realization for the famous family that perhaps the public has finally had enough of their shameless shenanigans because they are unwilling to purchase something that features their faces on it. They might want to re-evaluate their entire branding process to figure out where they went wrong because at this rate, the Kardashians are on their way to becoming a thing of the past.
2 They Just Aren't Fun Anymore
Maybe Keeping Up with the Kardashians was so popular because it used to be a lighthearted show about a bunch of sisters who liked to have fun while enjoying the perks of being excessively hot, rich, and famous. We are bold enough to admit that the Kardashians used to be a mindless guilty pleasure. But anyone who has tuned in to a recent episode knows that things aren't quite the same these days. We all know that the lives of the Kardashians have gotten pretty hectic over the years, and KUWTK certainly reflects that. The reality series used to feature witty one-liners and funny sisterly banter, but more current episodes have focused on serious matters such Khloe's struggle with fertility issues, Scott Disick's sobriety, Rob's fragile emotional state, and the brutal aftermath of Kris and Caitlyn's not-so-friendly divorce. Let's face it, trying to keep up with this wild family isn't exactly as fun and carefree as it once used to be, and that could pose a real potential problem for their brand in the long run. The famous family has been dealing with some very real issues, and while it's semi-refreshing to see that they aren't immune from reality, their show has become kind of a buzzkill because of it.
1 They've Already Peaked
You know what they say: "what goes up must come down." And when it comes to the Kardashian's popularity it's already on the fast-track to a downward spiral. But seriously, where else can you go when you're already some of the most famous people on the planet? To their credit, the Kardashians have transcended everybody's expectations and have made super successful careers out of practically nothing. Between their long-running reality show, their popular cell phone apps, and their ability to cash-in every time they make a post on Twitter or Instagram, the Kardashians are in the business of making money and so far they have done it quite well. The only problem is… what if they've already reached their full potential? There's no denying that they are past the point of peaking in terms of popularity. There once was a time where the Kardashian family as a whole was at the top of their game, but they have all branched off and started doing their own thing. While Kim, Kourtney, and Khloe Kardashian may have reached the peak of their fame, younger sisters Kendall and Kylie Jenner are totally set to take over their throne. Let's face it, the Kardashians are played out and we're entirely ready for something new.
