15 Rough Looking OITNB Characters Who Are Super Hot In Real Life

Many actresses look far more glamorous on television than they do in real life, because they play characters who are always dressed to the nines with impeccable make-up and not a single hair out of place. They rock designer gear and look super chic, whereas they may be more apt to wear yoga pants and a top knot in real life. The cast of Orange is the New Black have had a bit of a different experience.

Given that the characters are all in prison, they're always all wearing the shapeless prison uniforms, natural hair that isn't styled (because what styling products would you use?), and little to no make-up other than what they could innovate (Alex always has her eyeliner, for example, and Maritza's managed to contour with kitchen spices, but most of the women are make-up free).

As a result, many of the women on the show kind of just look like regular women, not gorgeous celebrities - that is, until you see them on the red carpet. Plus, some of them play former addicts whose habits have taken a toll on their appearance, which further downplays the actress' beauty.

It must be fun for the cast to get all dolled up and show the public a different side of themselves, because there's no denying it - many of the cast members look way, way different in real life than they do on the show. Here are 15 Orange is the New Black characters who you would barely recognize off set.

15 Uzo Aduba (Suzanne/ “Crazy Eyes”)

When we first met “Crazy Eyes,” she was wearing a hairstyle that involved buns scattered around her head, and in subsequent seasons she mixed it up but always had that slightly crazy expression. Aduba made acting choices that had nothing to do with looking good on camera - she was focused on portraying Suzanne to the best of her ability, and showing the audiences a glimpse of her mind through her facial expressions. However, on the red carpet, Uzo Aduba is a straight up bombshell. She embraces the gap in her teeth, sending the message that women don't have to all look like magazine models in order to be beautiful. She embraces her curves. And, frankly, it's just nice to see her looking all glam - you'd never recognize that this is the same woman you see every episode in Litchfield.

    14 Laura Gomez (Blanca)

Fans got a bit of a glimpse of the real Laura Gomez this past season on the show, when Maritza and Flaca gave Blanca a bit of a makeover, but it's still nothing compared to how she looks on the red carpet. Now, Blanca is one of the many characters who has a very distinct appearance on the show. From the big, wild hair to the trademark unibrow and constant snarl, Blanca has a specific attitude. And, even though we're all about a strong brow, Blanca's takes things a little bit too far. However, off set, Laura Gomez is a tall, lean, stunner - with perfectly shaped brows, we might add. After wearing the 'Blanca' look for episode after episode, we imagine it must be kind of nice for Gomez to get dolled up for press events and show the world her true self.

    13 Dascha Polanco (Dayanara)

Polanco's character on the show, Dayanara Diaz, is definitely gorgeous - her looks even catch a COs attention in the earlier seasons. However, she's just a regular girl who doesn't try to concoct any crazy prison make-up, and usually just has her hair up in a ponytail or hanging loose with no styling. So, while her natural beauty comes through, it's not really taken to the next level - enter her red carpet look. In real life, Polanco is totally unafraid to take a style risk, as we can see at this event - rather than wearing no makeup and a saggy prison uniform, she's rocking long, curled silver locks, a bold lip, and an outfit that incorporates both a bodycon dress and an over the top fringe-y jacket. We love getting to see Polanco's sense of style, and seeing a whole new side of her on the red carpet.

    12 Jackie Cruz (Flaca)

Okay, if you've seen red carpet pictures of Jackie Cruz in previous years, you'd probably have an easy time recognizing her from the show - she wore similar long locks with blunt bangs, and wasn't that different from her character of Flaca. That's because Flaca was one of the few inmates who was all about finding innovative ways to stay glam while behind bars. However, for the recent premiere of season five of the show, Cruz stepped out with an entirely different look - and we can't believe it's her! She opted for larger than life curls, and though her gorgeous face is the same, it's such a dramatically different hairstyle that we barely recognize her! Just like her character, apparently, Cruz isn't afraid of taking a style risk - and we love that.

    11 Francesca Curran (Helen)

Okay, this might be one of the craziest transformations. On the show, Francesca Curran plays Helen, one of the women in the white supremacist group, who rocks a shaved head, star tattoos near her eyes, and absolutely no make-up. As a result, coupled with her attitude on the show, she definitely has a more masculine vibe. However, in real life, Curran is an entirely different woman - one who loves playing with make-up and rocking a girly look. I mean, just take a look at this - you would think this is Helen's fashion blogger sister, not Helen herself in real life. It's just such a crazy transformation - and it kind of makes us want to check out some of Curran's other performances just to see what on earth she looks like when she's not rocking Helen's distinctive look.

    10 Lori Petty (Lolly)

Lolly wasn't on the most recent season of the show, but for a while, she was at the center of Alex's storyline - and it's hard to forget her trademark look. The super closely cropped, super blonde hair was really distinctive. In real life, Lori Petty has a lot more flair, and loves to play around with fashion - just take this red carpet look, for example. First of all, seeing Lolly as a brunette is enough of a dramatic change, let alone seeing her with make-up. However, the piece de resistance is her crazy pink cropped bodysuit thing - while other women rock gowns on the red carpet, Lori Petty goes with this, and we tip our hat to her sartorial boldness. Plus, we kind of dig the 'Blue Steel' look that she's giving the camera here.

    9 Yael Stone (Lorna)

While Lorna looks absolutely stunning on the show, she also has a trademark look - you hardly ever see her without a bold red lip and her slightly retro curled, long bob hairstyle. That's just Lorna. Off set, though, Yael Stone prefers to rock a bit of a more natural, fashion forward vibe - just take this look, for example. She's switched up Lorna's red lip for a nude lip and a natural smoky eye, and her hairstyle with small curls pinned to the side gives an entirely different feel. Off set, Yael Stone is even more of a babe than Lorna - and that's before she starts talking and charms the world with her Aussie accent! It's fun to see this different, more modern side of Yael Stone that you can't imagine when you're watching Lorna.

    8 Emma Myles (Leanne)

On the show, Leanne is one of the inmates in there for drug-related offenses, and though she's kept her long blonde locks, her drug use has definitely affected her appearance - her oral health, in particular. However, that's all the handiwork of the talented costume and make-up department - in real life, Emma Myles looks like a blonde bombshell who absolutely slays on the red carpet. I mean, just check out this look - from the elegant chignon to the gorgeous, somewhat unusual neckline of her strapless gown, to the flawless metallic nails and fun, bold pink lip, you'd never guess that this is what Leanne looked like when she was all dolled up. She has pretty distinctive facial features, so that helps a bit with recognizing her, but it's honestly such a dramatic transformation.

    7 Julie Lake (Angie)

On the show, Angie is Leanne's partner in crime - the two drug addicts are almost always together, and they play a huge role in season five with their antics. And, just like Leanne, Angie's appearance has definitely suffered as a result of her addiction. She has the same dental issues that Leanne does - which, if you ever see any behind the scenes images from the set, you know is the result of a skilled make-up team. In real life, Julie Lake is a total stunner - just check out this picture of her at the SAG awards. In contrast to Angie's limp locks and drug-addled appearance, Lake is channeling old Hollywood glam with a bold lip, diamonds galore, a killer retro hairstyle, and a red gown that looks absolutely stunning with her pale skin. I mean, who knew that she looked this amazing when she wasn't playing the character of Angie?

    6 Dale Soules (Frieda)

Frieda was another one of the characters who got a slightly bigger role this season, and we loved that the show highlighted her backstory a little bit so viewers got to glimpse where exactly she came from and what kind of life she had before Litchfield. While she's very no nonsense in her appearance on the show, in real life, Dale Soules definitely gets all dolled up when the occasion calls for it. Everything from the bold blue colour in this gorgeous lace gown to the low key hairstyle to the amazing auburn/reddish colour of her hair has totally transformed her from the gruff Frieda we see on the show. This is another situation where the transformation between her character's appearance and her own appearance off set makes us want to see more of her work to see just how she looks in other roles.

    5 Adrienne Moore (Cindy)

On the show, Cindy has a larger than life personality, and that's paired with her larger than life hair - who could forget those crazy pigtails that she wears? She also dons the standard prison uniform which, let's be honest, does nothing for her curves. Off set, though, Adrienne Moore is an absolute knockout. For this red carpet event, she's traded her prison garb for an incredible bright pink and orange dress that looks wonderful with her skin. She's slicked on a bold lip, and traded her character's poofy pigtails for a sleek braided two-toned updo that is absolutely stunning. Uh, who knew Cindy could clean up this well? Not us, that's for sure. Cindy may have earned a viral coffee meme, but Adrienne Moore is having fun rocking it at various red carpet events, and we totally love her off set style.

    4 Selenis Leyva (Gloria)

Gloria doesn't have drug addict teeth or a white supremacist hairstyle on the show, like some of the other characters, to transform her appearance. She's really just a little bit, well, plain. As opposed to some of the more over the top characters, Gloria is kind of the calming presence, the mother hen - with a healthy dose of authority when the situation calls for it! That's why it's such a huge transformation to see her all dolled up on the red carpet. Selenis Leyva still rocks a short hairstyle here, like Gloria does, but it definitely has an edgier vibe when it's styled. Pair that with her bold dress and gorgeous metallic strappy samples, and we're left marvelling at her insane transformation - that's one hot mama! Who knew she was hiding curves like that under that baggy standard issue prison uniform?

    3 Vicky Jeudy (Watson)

Um, who on earth knew that Vicky Jeudy basically transforms into a combination between a supermodel and Beyonce when she steps off set? Not us, that's for sure. On the show, Vicky Jeudy's character is an athlete - and that's exactly how she looks. Her hair changes length a bit throughout the course of the series, but it's always just her natural texture, bare face, and not much else. She's more worried about getting in her laps on the outdoor track than trying to come up with some DIY prison make-up. However, in real life, Jeudy is an absolute bombshell - from the slicked back, super chic hairstyle to the over the top gown that shows off all her curves, Jeudy looks absolutely incredible off set. Who knew?! Jeudy is beautiful as Watson, but this is taking things to a whole new level.

    2 Emily Althaus (Kukudio)

Thanks to Emily Althaus' stunning features, you can kind of tell that Kukudio would clean up nicely on the show, but it can be hard to see past her puzzling character. Off set, though, you can see exactly what kind of transformation a little make-up and a better wardrobe choices can do. From her blunt retro bangs to the bold berry lip colour that makes the most of her naturally plump pout to the killer lace dress that showcases her curves, we would have never guessed just how stunning Althaus could look when she was just being herself and not playing Kukudio. This show is one of her most notable roles to this day, so we're excited to see where Althaus' career goes next - given the ease with which she channels a retro vibe, we kind of hope she manages to snag a few period pieces of biopics.

    1 Kelly Karbacz (Sankey)

On the show, white supremacist Sankey, played by Kelly Karbacz, has a bit of an abrasive personality. And her prison look definitely isn't anything approaching glam - she goes totally make-up free, and her blonde locks are always just limp and kind of blah. In real life, though, Kelly Karbacz is a straight up blonde bombshell with a killer smile. I mean, honestly. Seeing her with her hair up is a refreshing twist from the show, where she's always wearing it down, and everything from her fresh-faced make-up look to her amazing smile totally transforms her look. We never would have pictured the woman who plays Sankey to be able to play more light-hearted roles where she's just the beautiful love interest, but seeing Kelly Karbacz off set, you can totally imagine her playing everything from a fashionista to a humble small town girl who falls in love with her town's new hunky resident.
