15 Signs You're Actually Lorelai Gilmore
If there's one TV character that you will love forever and ever, it's definitely Lorelai Gilmore. She's just the greatest human being. Sure, you love Rory and you totally get that the two of them together make Gilmore Girls the glorious mom/daughter drama that it is. No offense to bookworm Rory with her journalism aspirations and her adorable looks. You pretty much watch for Lorelai. You just have to be honest here. You adore Lorelai and her witty remarks and how she always knows the perfect thing to say. Yeah, sometimes her big mouth gets her into trouble (okay, that happens a lot of the time) but that's okay. She's only human. And hey, you're only human too, so you can totally relate to her on that level.
Here are 15 signs you're actually Lorelai Gilmore. Because chances are, you have a lot more than just a love of caffeine in common.
15 You Talk Crazy Fast
If you talk like words itself are going out of style, then you have a ton in common with Lorelai Gilmore. Actually, you have the most important thing in common with her since if there's one thing everyone can agree on, it's that the woman can talk super quickly. If people always tell you to slow down and ask what the hurry is, then you can totally relate. You probably love to talk, right? You call your mom every single day because you just love chatting about your day, your job, your latest TV obsession -- pretty much anything and everything that's on your mind. Your favorite thing to do on a Friday night is head to your favorite bar with your best friends and eat sweet potato fries and drink red wine and chat until midnight. It's just the best. When people say that Lorelai talks insanely fast, you don't really get it because to you, it's just how people should talk.
14 You Adore Saturdays
As Lorelai says, “Rory, my heart. It is Saturday, the day of rest.” Rory responds “Sunday's the day of rest” and Lorelai says, “No, Saturday is the day of pre-rest. Yeah, so that way when you actually get to Sunday you're rested enough to enjoy your rest.” If you love Saturdays this much - if this is the day that you wait for all week long and you can't wait to binge-watch your latest obsession or curl up with a good book - then congrats. You are totally Lorelai Gilmore and you guys definitely have this in common. Sure, a lot of people love a good old lazy Sunday and while you're not opposed to that whole concept, you do have to admit that Saturday is just better. After all, when you wake up on a Saturday morning, you have two glorious weekend days. When you wake up on a Sunday morning, you have one day. Huge difference.
13 You Get Grumpy
The truth is that as much as you adore Lorelai, a lot of people (fans and critics alike) think she can be kind of a jerk. While you hate to say anything negative about your beloved TV character, you do have to admit that sometimes, Lorelai gets super grumpy. If she gets woken up super early or can't get a good cup of coffee, it's like the worst thing in the world has happened. She can't even. Okay, okay, you can admit that she does seem to be in a bad mood on a regular basis… and okay, you can admit that you do too. You get grumpy on early mornings and if you don't get a decent cup of joe (and if those things go together, then everyone around you should definitely watch out). But you think that your grumpy moments are part of your charm. They make you who you are and they make you super endearing. At least that's what you're going to tell yourself.
12 You Follow Your Dreams
What's super awesome and inspiring about Lorelai Gilmore is that despite all the obstacles in her way -- the fact that she got pregnant at sixteen and had to leave home -- she managed to make something of herself. In fact, she has done super well since she now owns her own inn The Dragonfly. It's really inspiring to think about the way that she worked her way up from a maid position at the Independence Inn. Just look where she is now. This is often an overlooked part of the series since it has nothing to do with Lorelai and Luke's will-they-or-won't-they relationship or Rory's many boyfriends. But really, the show is saying something super important and motivating about following your dreams and doing what you want with your life. If you follow your own dreams and are always a total goal setter, then you are basically Lorelai and you should be super proud of yourself.
11 You Love Life
Do you love life? Do you wake up in a really good mood no matter what's going on (at least most of the time)? Do you smile at strangers on the street and say hi to them, even if they give you dirty looks? If you answered yes to all of these questions, then yes, you are totally someone that loves life… and you are basically Lorelai Gilmore. Which is definitely a really cool thing. You just don't get why people have to be in bad moods so much of the time. Everyone that you know is always complaining about something and they always seem so upset, but that's just not you. You don't think that you were put on this earth so you could be pissed off with everything and everyone in your life. That just doesn't make sense to you. Plus there's coffee in the world so if anything helps you find your joy on a daily basis, it's that.
10 You're Snow Obsessed
You love snow so much, you can't believe how many people hate the fluffy white stuff. You get super excited about the first snow just like Lorelai. In fact, the first time that you saw Lorelai walk outside on her Stars Hollow street and say, "I smell snow" you pretty much cheered. You have totally done that (or at least something similar to that). You can't believe that someone else feels the same way. Your entire life, you have been a snow person. You have always been ridiculed for it because everyone you know from your classmates to friends to family members have thought that snow was a big pain in the butt. Sure, people enjoy getting the day off from school or being able to leave work early, but that's usually the extent of their enjoyment when it comes to snow. But not you. Nope, you're right there with Lorelai. You adore snow and that's never, ever going to change.
9 You're A Kid At Heart
If there's one thing that you can say is true about Lorelai, it's that she is basically a big kid. It's an interesting thing since she had to grow up super fast and raise Rory on her own. After all, she was still in high school when she got pregnant and she had never really had any responsibility. She was a rich girl who had everything handed to her up until that point and then suddenly she was thrust into the real world and had to do everything herself. But what's cool about Lorelai is that she never lost the kid inside of her and she was able to give Rory the best life ever. From what they have said in their discussions on the show, it sounds like she had a really fun childhood. They must have had the best time eating junk food and playing games and making even normal moments super magical. If you're a kid at heart too, then you're totally Lorelai Gilmore.
8 You Don't Count Calories
Calories? What are those? You're just kidding… well, kind of. You really don't care about counting calories because you can't imagine what would be more boring than that. Your life is all about good food and lots of it and let's be real here, that means that you never met a junk food that you didn't like (or absolutely love). You cheered the first time you saw Lorelai and Rory chow down on some junk food and you love that they have regular movie nights with all kinds of stuff from pizza to chocolate to candy to chips to marshmallow fluff (the most important part of movie night, obviously). That's pretty much your regular diet. Okay, maybe you're not that extreme and maybe you do eat vegetables because you care about your life and being healthy. But you do relate to how Lorelai loves food and never, ever goes on a diet.
7 You Speak Your Mind
You speak your mind and have no issues doing that… but sometimes, you do kind of get into trouble. You're the kind of friend who thinks that being a good BFF means telling people what you really think about their life choices. Sure, that doesn't always work out too well for you and you have had some super uncomfortable conversations with your good friends. But you think it's better for them in the long run since you're just not okay with being super fake and always telling people exactly what they want to hear. Lorelei totally does this and has gotten in tons of trouble more times than you can count. She definitely fights with people when she's in a rotten mood because, as you've already said, she can be a real grump. You love that you can relate to her on this level because you do think that it's your right to speak your mind.
6 You Have Friends Who Are Your Family
What is really cool about Lorelai's community in Stars Hollow is that her friends truly become her family. She has managed to build her own family out of people that she has met and decided to choose instead of the people that she is technically related to. Hopefully, you have a great relationship with your parents and you don't relate to Lorelai's issues with her mom and dad -- but other than that, you probably do consider some of your friends your family. When you see Lorelai in scenes with Babette or Miss Patty or Michel or Sookie, your heart totally grows about a million sizes because you can totally relate to loving people that much even if they're not technically your family members. This is a really adorable and charming aspect of the series and the townspeople are what make you feel so warm and fuzzy about this show.
5 You Are Super Dramatic
If people tell you that you have a real flair for the dramatic, you don't have to defend yourself or feel like it's a bad quality to have. Nope. Feel proud of yourself for being who you are no matter what because the truth is that you're just like Lorelai Gilmore. She's super dramatic as well and you love it, so you should love that about yourself, too. The thing is that being dramatic makes life worth living. Don't you agree?! Think about it. You can make anything magical instead of mundane. You can make going to the grocery store the best time ever and no one will ever be bored when they're hanging out with you, that's for sure. Sure, sometimes this can be a real issue for you since you tend to freak out and make mountains out of molehills. But otherwise, your life is so much fun that you don't think that your dramatic nature is a real problem.
4 You Seem A Bit Wacky
Let's be honest here about Lorelai Gilmore: She has her wild and wacky moments. That's definitely not a bad thing and you definitely adore that about her. But that's exactly why you can relate to her and you're basically her (you know, but not in TV character form but in actual human being form). You think that life is meant to be lived and that means being a bit weird sometimes. You totally and completely own how quirky and weird you can be. You think that perfection is overrated and boring and you would rather go to the dentist for hours at a time than be normal and dull. Nope, the dull life just isn't for you. When people say that you're a bit strange, you know it's not a compliment but hey, that's totally how you take it. You don't think it's bad to be weird. You own your flaws and you love this about yourself.
3 You're Enthusiastic
What's so awesome about Lorelai is that she is super enthusiastic about everything in her life. She loves coffee. She loves junk food. She loves TV and movies and especially movie nights. She loves the diner and her town and taking business classes and working at the inn and hanging out with her friends and shopping and… The list goes on and on. She loves a whole lot of things and it's cool to see someone who really just has a joy for life. You're very enthusiastic about everything in your life, even the things that people don't think are really fun, like grocery shopping or running errands or even work meetings. You can't help your enthusiasm. But the next time someone asks you why you seem so psyched for something that they think totally sucks, you're going to say that you're channeling Lorelai Gilmore. They won't be able to argue with that since everyone loves Lorelai Gilmore. It's like a law or something.
2 You're Crazy For Pop Culture
If you love pop culture more than anything else and you're always referencing movies or TV shows or celebrities, then you can totally relate to Lorelai Gilmore. You can definitely relate even more if most people in your life don't really seem to get your references. It sucks because you wish that people had more pop culture literacy but hey, you can't change people, no matter how much you might want to. All you can do is spread your love of all things entertainment and celebrity on a regular basis and reference as much as you can in any conversation that you're a part of. You love that this show celebrates pop culture and that Lorelai loves it so much. When her beloved dog is sick, she tells Luke that the best part of not feeling well is watching tons and tons of television and she hates that he couldn't since, you know, he's a dog. That's totally how you think.
1 You Drink Coffee Like It's Your Job
Here's the real reason that you are totally Lorelai Gilmore: you drink coffee like it's your job. You love the stuff so much, you can't even really talk about it. That's how much you care. When you hear that people have given up coffee because they think it's healthier (even if it's only something that they do for a month or so), you want to scream. You can't imagine ever giving up the joy of a cup of caffeine. It's basically nuts to you and it's not something that you ever want to do. When people say that you should probably cut down on your caffeine consumption, you basically want to laugh in their faces. You can't imagine why anyone would think that there's such a thing as too much coffee. That's just not in your vocabulary. Thankfully, your patron saint of loving coffee is Lorelai Gilmore and she gets you through the days. Now if only she was real and you guys could go to a hipster coffee shop and have some girl talk, then life would be perfect.
