15 Stupid Expensive Celeb Penthouses Around The World
Celebrities are always travelling around the world, filming, modeling, touring, and attending public appearances. So, it almost seems unnecessary for them to splurge on expensive penthouses. How much space do they really need anyways? They are rarely ever home to live in and enjoy the space. Famous celebrities are always purchasing expensive homes around the world, that are way too oversized and overpriced. But, that doesn't matter because they're rich and want to live luxurious lives.
When it comes to that apartment life, celebrities have redefined what it means to live in a building. Their mansion-like penthouses make all of us rethink our dream house goals. When we usually think about apartment life, we tend to picture crammed, three bedrooms, one bath places that are shared with two random roommates you find on Craigslist. The kitchen is way too small to cook a proper meal, the air conditioner doesn't work, and the place is still beyond overpriced. Okay, so I might be exaggerated just a little bit, but you get the point.
When it comes to celebrity penthouses though, they are beyond anything we could ever imagine. They have private elevators, indoor pools, secluded gardens, and such breathtaking views. Here are some of the best, and most expensive celeb penthouses around the world.
15 Gigi Hadid ($4 Million)
Gigi Hadid's trendy New York apartment is as stylish as she is. Located on Noho's popular Bond Street, the sleekly architecture and contemporary interior is perfect for any millennial. Her 2,085-square-foot suite has two bedrooms and two and a half bathrooms. Each room is styled with a modern, monochromatic black and white palette.
Hadid's apartment even has direct elevator access to her room from the lobby. This asset was important to Gigi because she has dealt with stalker issues in the past. She was forced to move out of her old Bowery Street apartment after stalkers began following her home.
Her boyfriend, Zayn Malik has even been eyeing an apartment for himself in the same building. He spends a lot of time living at her place already, that having his own apartment in the same building might actually be a smart idea… Well, unless they break up.
14 Cameron Diaz ($4.25 Million)
Cameron Diaz's Manhattan, Greenwich Village apartment is the perfect combination of homey, sparkly, and tactile. When she first purchased her Manhattan home, she hired designer Kelly Wearstler to help give her city place a Hollywood feel.
This 2,400-square-foot home is filled with warm hues of burnished metals, like rose gold and copper. The glamourous apartment was complete with a wood-burning fireplace, custom wallpaper, and hand-stenciled ceilings.
A couple of years ago, Diaz actually listed her lavish New York apartment on the market. Ever since she married musician Benji Madden in 2015, Cameron thought it was a good idea to trade in her bachelorette pad (and her bachelorette life). As they hope to expand their family, the couple think a bigger and more family friendly place would be better suited for their changing lifestyle.
13 John Legend & Chrissy Teigen ($4.5 Million)
For their 2,000-square-foot, one-bedroom loft-like apartment, John Legend and Chrissy Teigen might have been asking too much by listing their place for a jarring $4.5 million. But, it's all about location when it comes to this NoLita, Manhattan building. Oh, and the fact that it was a celebrity owned home.
When John and Chrissy first moved in, they hired designer Don Stewart to help decorate the loft. Don is a famous celebrity decorator who has worked with some big named stars, like Kanye West.
The apartment is a modern pad decorated with a very traditional and homey furniture. It has built in bookcases, a private area for John's glossy, grand piano, and a very quirky kitchen filled with a whole collection of puzzle-pieced furniture. The unique designed loft fits the couple's fun and eccentric personality perfectly.
12 Yolanda Hadid ($4.59 Million)
In 2015, Yolanda Hadid and David Foster divorced and sold the gorgeous Malibu home they owned together. If you're a fan of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, you'll definitely remember their beautiful beach mansion. This was before Gigi and Bella became world class supermodels.
Yolanda purchased a stunning bachelorette pad at the Carlyle Residences in Los Angeles. The three-bedroom, 3.5-bath apartment has 11 foot ceilings, has its own private elevator, and floor to ceiling glass windows. The place is also decked out with Hermès pillows and throws. Yolanda keeps it real though with cute family photos on nearly every wall.
But with all of her children now living in New York, Yolanda is thinking about ditching her chic Beverly Hills condo and moving to the East Coast to be reunited with her family.
11 Ashley Olsen ($7.3 Million)
Ashley Olsen is always redefining and reinventing fashion trends. So it makes sense that her current loft used to be home to an art gallery. Ashley owns a 3,000-sqaure-foot, floor-through unit in Greenwich Village in New York. Her place has two bedrooms and two and a half bathrooms. She also has a private elevator and views from both the North and South sides of the building.
This isn't the first time Ashley purchased a gorgeous penthouse in NYC. Back in 2004, Ashley and her twin sister Mary Kate also bought a $7.4-million-dollar penthouse in the West Village. The Olsen twins have always had such a unique and distinct style when it comes to their clothing. It's obvious that their style preferences translated into their homes as well. If you like Ashley's unit, just wait till you see Mary Kate's place!
10 Britney Spears ($7.6 Million)
Pop Diva Britney Spears hasn't lived in a penthouse for quite some time now. But, it's astonishing that the NoHo New York apartment that she once lived in, over a decade ago, is still raking in huge profits. Buyers are obviously interested in this NoHo penthouse because it was once the home of Britney Spears, but the place has a lot else to offer as well.
The apartment is a three-bedroom, four and a half bath, and spans four floors in the building. It features large living and dining rooms, a mud room, a wood-burning fire place, views of downtown Manhattan, and a huge outdoor living space.
Britney now calls the West Coast home and traded in her NoHo penthouse for a villa in Thousand Oaks, California.
9 Drew Barrymore ($8.3 Million)
It seems like the cast of Charlie's Angels (the movie of course), have more in common than their good looks and badass investigative skills. Just like her co-star Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore has a newly renovated New York City pad. The place is a nine room apartment with four bedrooms, dressing rooms, a grand library, and spans two stories in the building.
The place has a family friendly feel, which makes it a perfect home for her children. There's tons of ample entertaining space, a built-in stereo system, and tons of cozy seating areas. From being a wild child growing up, Drew has overcome so many troubles in her life. She's one of the few celebs that actually deserves this crazy expensive, but totally gorgeous family home.
8 Alec Baldwin ($11.7 Million)
Greenwich Village in New York City is a popular area for celebrity proprieties. Ashley Olsen and Cameron Diaz have both lived there. Alec Baldwin does as well! The Devonshire House's last remaining penthouse was bought by Alec Baldwin this year. The 4,137 square foot home spans the 12th and penthouse floor of the building. It has two master bedrooms, an upstairs den, and a fireplace.
This isn't Baldwin's first penthouse in the city. He recently sold a $1.25 Million NYC luxury apartment and sold another Devonshire House apartment a few years ago. Why he needed multiple apartments in the same city, let alone in the same building, is beyond us. But, I'm sure we can all agree that his current penthouse is in a prime location and so aesthetically pleasing.
7 Amy Schumer ($12.1 Million)
Amy Schumer's New York apartment is anything but a joke. With her skyrocketing success the past few years, Schumer bought a turn of the century Beaux Arts penthouse, located on Riverside Drive. The penthouse is around 4,500 square feet and has five bedrooms and five and a half bathrooms. This seems like a lot of unnecessary space for funny, down to earth Amy Schumer to have alone to herself. But, maybe she's considering expanding her family sometime soon.
Like many of the other celebrities, Schumer has a key-lock elevator that brings her directly into her penthouse's beautiful, open concept entrance. She has gorgeous floor to ceiling window doors all around the place, which lets natural light fill the room. Each bedroom has its own bathroom with heated floors, sky lights on the ceiling, and she even has a three-sided fireplace.
6 Mary Kate Olsen ($13.5 Million)
Unlike a lot of other celebrities who own places in the West Village and Tribeca addresses of New York City, Mary Kate Olsen and her spouse Olivier Sarkozy bought a townhouse located in Midtown neighborhood of Turtle Bay Gardens. Their home is somewhere between townhouse and castle. It offers tons of privacy, and includes a rooftop pool, personal elevator, private garden with a fountain, and an artist's studio.
The townhouse looks like a modern day Romeo and Juliet love nest. The couple bought it from painter, Olivier Sarkozy, who was originally asking $16.5 Million for the place. The home is filled with artistic details in every room, making it well suited for the one-of a kind (okay, maybe two of a kind because she's a twin) fashionista.
5 Alicia Keys ($15 Million)
Even though singer Alicia Keys and her husband Swizz Beatz recently sold their 9,167 square foot New York apartment, it was beyond breathtaking, so we had to include it on the list. The property was located on 30 Crosby Street and has both indoor and outdoor living space. It was a luxurious triplex Penthouse with five bedrooms, four bathrooms, a keyed elevator, four powder rooms, walk in butler's pantry, a library, a wine cellar, dressing rooms and beautiful private terraces.
So why did the couple decide to sell such a perfect place? Well like other famous families, they thought the suburbs were more suitable for their new lifestyle. The couple actually bought Eddie Murphy's New Jersey mansion. It even has its own recording studio!
4 Pharrell Williams ($16.8 Million)
For someone who has been so successful in the music industry for as long as Pharrell Williams has, it's expected that he would own such an over the top penthouse. This Bristol Tower Penthouse is located in Miami Florida. It's 9,080 square feet and on the 40th floor of the building. The triplex has 360 degree views of the ocean and the Miami skyline from every room in the place. It also includes five bedrooms, six and a half baths, a landscaped deck, a swimming pool, two kitchens and a private movie theatre.
A year ago, Pharrell actually sold his modern Miami apartment. We're not quite sure why since this penthouse suited Pharrell's personality perfectly. He personalized his home to an absolute tee. He had huge prints of Stewie and Brian Griffin on the wall, always has Family Guy on, and has blowup, framed news articles of some of his notable accomplishments.
3 Taylor Swift ($20 Million)
In the last few years, Taylor Swift became one of New York City's newest residents! Taylor purchased a seven bedroom, five and a half bathroom Tribeca penthouse. She is one of the most over the top celebrities, despite her wannabe “chill girl” vibe. So, it's completely expected that will all her musical success, she splurged on an EXTRA AF apartment.
The penthouse is 8,300 square feet. Perfect for hosting all her short-term boyfriends. This amount of space is basically unheard of when it comes to city condos. The interior of the penthouse is very country chic, kind of like the old Taylor. It looks like her country roots stayed with her. The apartment spans two floors, has hints of red details in every room, and used to be the home of Peter Jackson.
2 Sting ($56 Million)
A few months ago, Sting and his wife, producer Trudie Styler listed their 5,400 square foot penthouse, located at 15 Central Park West, for sale. The two-story Manhattan apartment has three bedrooms and a den, three bathrooms and floor to ceiling windows. It also has a 400 square foot terrace that offers amazing views of the Big Apple. Keep in mind, New York is notorious for their lack of square footage apartments. So it's completely normal that a penthouse in Central Park would cost this much for a modest amount of space.
The listing price for their unit is actually quite generous for their Manhattan dwelling. The neighboring unit sold in 2011 for a whopping $88 Million! I wonder what billionaire lived in that place.
1 Donald Trump ($100 Million)
Of course we had to include Donald Trump in a list about expensive penthouses. Even though the White House is his new primary residence, Trump's New York City penthouse is a very close second. The Trump Tower penthouse, located on Fifth Avenue, takes up three-levels of the building and sits on the 66th floor. Just imagine the view of the city from that height!
The interior of the penthouse looks like a gold mine. Literally everything is gold! Not like that surprises us though. He has floor to ceiling marble, classical art all over the penthouse, and ceilings painted with classic scenes from Greek mythology. The whole penthouse was designed by Angelo Donghia, who has also worked with Ralph Lauren, Diana Ross, and Mary Tyler Moore.
