15 'This Is Us' Moments You Never Want To Happen To You

There's nothing more soothing than getting home from a long day, getting into your sweats, and stashing for a cozy evening with your favorite show. We love shows because they enable us to completely disconnect and launch ourselves into a new reality. Most of the time, it's a relaxing experience. However, there are some shows that completely drag us into a whirlwind of drama and catastrophes. This Is Us makes us feel grateful that the character's lives aren't our own.

This Is Us is definitely one of your new favorite shows and you're already in total withdrawal since the first season ended back in March. You can't believe that you have to wait months… and months… and months before finding out what's next for this lovely and beautiful family. You're super attached to Jack and Rebecca Pearson and you adore Kate, Randall and Kevin as well. There's one thing that you have to admit about this show, though, and that's the fact that you definitely don't want to have your own life mirror the storylines. You probably wouldn't be able to handle even half of the sad and tragic things that happen to the characters and you're okay with admitting that. Read on to find out the 15 This Is Us moments that you never want to happen to you. Some things really should stay fictional. And yes, there are major spoilers ahead, of course.

    15 Losing A Parent When You're A Teen

It's super tragic that Jack dies when Kate, Kevin and Randall are teenagers. There haven't really been any scenes about the aftermath of his death, at least not yet (that might be something that will occur in the second season), but you can tell that it seems like Jack's death was hardest on Kate. Of course everyone felt it and was devastated, but Kate has spoken to Toby about how hard this moment was for her. You definitely don't want to lose a parent when you're only a teenager. It's hard enough to get through life and high school with your parents. It's even worse when your household suddenly becomes a single parent one and you don't have that parental figure to help you through everything anymore. Watching this show can make you feel pretty grateful for and appreciative of your mom and dad.

14 Blaming Yourself For Someone's Death

The unfortunate reality of the Pearson family's post-Jack world is that Kate has always blamed herself for her dad's death. That seems to be the meaning behind her weight problem, or at least that's what she seems to have explained to Toby. You daintily never want to blame yourself for something terrible that has happened, and you definitely never want to blame yourself for your dad's death (or the death of someone else close to you). This is honestly one of the worst things that you could think and one of the most terrible experiences that you could go through. You're going to feel so horrible and guilty that it's going to basically ruin your life, at least for a period of time before you begin to heal and move on. It's going to prevent you from moving on and living your regular life, and that's just not good.

13 Finding Out You Were Adopted

While it's awesome that Jack and Rebecca were able to adopt Randall and they discovered him when he was a baby at the hospital, it's also pretty awful to learn that you were adopted. You always wonder if you're different from your family and you feel like you are sometimes, if not all the time. You always wonder why your parents didn't want you and you can even have seriously low self-esteem as a result of that. You can definitely tell that Randall feels this way, and that he has always had a tough time not knowing who his dad is. So while it's beautiful and moving that he was able to find his dad, William, later in life, you have to admit that you don't want to find out that you're adopted. It doesn't matter how lovely and loving your adoptive family is. You always want to know that your parents are your birth parents. It's just part of human nature.

12 Being Without The One That You Love

It was pretty awesome to learn that Kevin had been in love with one girl for his entire life: Sophie. They were friends from a super young age and even got married… but have been separated for ten years. Now that they've found each other again and are dating, it's seriously #relationshipgoals. But you have to admit that you don't want to spend a decade without the person that you love more than anyone or anything else in the world. That just doesn't sound like a lot of fun, and it's not a recipe for happiness. You hope that Kevin and Sophie can make things work this time around, and that they really will continue in this positive direction. You wouldn't be able to handle seeing them break up because you're super attached. It's like you didn't even know that Sophie existed for a long time and as soon as you did, you were totally on board.

11 No One Coming To Your Birthday Party

In a totally heartbreaking scene, Randall, Kate and Kevin have a joint birthday party and pretty much no one attends for Randall. The group birthday was a good idea for that very reason-so Randall wouldn't feel super left out and like no one wanted to attend his very own party-but of course he ends up learning the truth anyway. It's awful watching him realize that he doesn't have any friends and you wish that you could give him a great big hug. No one should ever feel that way, especially not such a sweet kid like Randall. You never want to throw a birthday party and have no one show up, and that's pretty much the stuff of nightmares. It's probably something that you worry about even now as an adult since you never know how flakey people are going to be (even people that you consider your friends).

10 Losing Your Bio Dad After Finally Meeting Him

Can you even imagine?! It's cause for celebration when you're able to meet your biological parent (or one of them) after so many years of wondering who they are and wishing that you could meet them. It's terrible that after Randall finally meets William and spends time with him and even invites him to live with him, he loses him. It's seriously sad and just thinking about this is enough for you to start sobbing because you adore William. How could you not?! He's the most adorable and sweetest character ever, and you wish that he could have stuck around so he could have stayed on the show. You're hoping that he'll still be in season two because you figure that he could be in a few flashbacks or memories or something like that. I think that every single fan of this show totally and completely agrees with you.

9 Your Boyfriend Having A Heart Attack

And on Christmas Eve, of all days. Another This Is Us moment that you never want to happen to you! It's awful when Toby comes over to Randall and Beth's house for the holiday and then collapses. You definitely finished the episode feeling super worried about him and couldn't stop thinking about it, and it was a huge relief to learn that he did in fact survive. You definitely never want your boyfriend to have a heart attack… or any kind of accident or get any kind of disease or illness for that matter. Nope. That's just not something that you want to happen to you, although it does make for good television, since it's one of the most dramatic things ever. You really love Toby and Kate as a couple and think that they are very interesting together, and it would have been awful watching her try to grieve and try to move on because she cares about him a ton.

8 Feeling Replaced At The Office

In some of the season's final episodes, Randall finds it harder and harder to deal with his life, from his dying father to other family drama to his work obligations. And to top it all off, he feels like he's being replaced at work because there's another guy at the company who seems all too willing to pick up Randall's slack. That's definitely not something that you want to experience yourself. Feeling like you're been replaced or like you could be replaced at any moment is no fun at all. It doesn't matter if it's in a personal relationship or at work, it sucks either way. If you love your career as much as Randall does, it's something that you use to identify yourself by, and you can't imagine yourself doing something else for a living. It's truly awful to feel like you're just not appreciated with everything that you do at work.

7 Learning Your Brother Had An Anxiety Attack

Poor Randall. In a scene that definitely made you cry, if not totally and completely sob, Randall loses it at the office when his anxiety starts resurfacing. He can't handle what's going on in his life and feels totally overwhelmed. Thankfully, Kevin is the best brother ever (seriously) and he rushes to Randall's rescue. But although this is a really sweet moment, you definitely don't want this to happen to you. You for sure don't want to learn that your brother (or anyone in your family) is experiencing some anxiety because you never want the people that you love to suffer. Sometimes it's even worse than when you're the one going through something. You wish that everyone that you know could just smile and have fun all the time, but of course that's not the reality of life, and that's just never going to be the case.

6 Finding Out Your Mom Knew About Your Bio Dad

When Randall finds out that Rebecca knew about William for a really long time before he did himself, it's a seriously sad moment. You know that both Randall and Rebecca feel really bad about this situation and you understand where they're both coming from. It's kind of funny how you can watch a movie or a television show and you totally sympathize with both sides… but in real life, you can only see things from your own perspective. You definitely think that the other person is totally wrong when you're in the middle of a great big fight. Hmmm. Maybe you should learn something from TV. Then you could tell people that it's not your fault that you're a TV addict -- you're trying to educate yourself about this thing called life. Yup, that sounds like a great plan. You definitely don't want to find something like this out.

5 When Your Partner Is An Alcoholic

You love Jack Pearson, of course, and every other fan does too. It's impossible not to. You don't love that Jack is an alcoholic for a long time, though, and you know that everyone would agree with you. It's horrible to go through this and learn that your partner is struggling so much. Rebecca really has a tough time with this because she doesn't know what to do. Eventually, she tells him that this can't continue and you give her major props for being honest and standing up for herself and the children. You definitely don't want this to happen to you and for this to be a problem in your own relationship. But this really goes for any big problem, of course. You never want the people that you love to suffer and struggle. All you want is to enjoy life as much as possible and make sure that everyone is doing well.

4 Discovering Your Boyfriend Has An Ex-Wife

You definitely never want this moment to happen to you: learning that your boyfriend has an ex-wife. Nope, that's not something that you want to hear. You would want him to tell you the truth about his romantic history when you first start dating, no matter how awkward and awful those conversations can be. But it's part of the whole deal and you just have to get through it. When Kate learns that Toby was married, she's pretty upset. But she's upset for another reason: she sees her wife and figures out that she's much thinner than she is. Of course, Toby really doesn't care about that and makes this seem like a non-event, but since Kate is going through a real struggle with her weight, she feels pretty horrible about the whole thing. You can totally relate to Kate and know that you don't want to experience this type of situation in your own life. We understand that you would definitely like to keep it fictional.

3 Hating Your Mom's New Beau

Season one of This Is Us has been a really interesting, wild ride, and one of the most fascinating storylines has been Miguel and Rebecca's relationship. It was a major shocker when you learned that Rebecca has gotten re-married to Miguel, aka Jack's best friend ever. Your jaw dropped to the floor, right?! You've gotten used to this since then and are okay with Miguel (for the most part) because you think that he's pretty adorable and pretty sweet. The moment that absolutely guts you is when he tells Kevin that he knows he hates him and that really hurts him deeply… but he loves Kevin anyway because he has so much of Jack in him, along with the other kids. You would hate to have this happen to you. You don't want your mom (or your dad) to get re-married and you don't want to end up loathing that person. It just makes things way too complicated and let's face it, family life is always complicated enough.

2 Feeling Like Everyone Has A Better Life Than You

Everyone feels this way on the show, right? From Kate to Kevin to Randall, from Rebecca to Jack to Miguel, all of the characters seem to have the feeling that everyone else that they know has a much better life than them. Everyone feels insecure and uncertain and like they just don't know how they possibly wound up with the hand that they have been dealt. Sure, they're fairly happy people (at least most of the time and when seriously sad things aren't happening) but they don't know what they're doing. This is what makes this show so completely relatable, right? You don't have to complain about how these characters just don't get it and they live such picture perfect lives because that's just not going down on this particular TV show. Just look at the pilot: Kate, Kevin and Randall all turn 36 and they have to think hard about where they are in their lives and if they have to make some changes.

1 Feeling Like Your Partner Doesn't Support You

In the season one finale, Jack and Rebecca have an absolutely horrible and epic fight. Serious props to Milo Ventimiglia and Mandy Moore because they do an insanely good job in this scene. The whole reason behind this argument is that Rebecca doesn't feel like Jack supports her… because, well, he kind of doesn't. He didn't want her to go on the road with her band and he didn't like her singing career because he didn't want that to interfere with their family life. Once she figured out how he really felt, she couldn't hold her tongue any longer and had to let him know that this was not cool with her. You never want to feel like your partner doesn't support you. Definitely not. That's honestly the worst news ever and is enough to make you consider breaking up. Of course, you don't want Jack and Rebecca to break up, but since you know that he dies at some point, this feels super inevitable. Oh, man. We love this show but are definitely glad that it's all fictional!
