16 Celebrity Parenting Fails You Were Never Meant To See
Every day, celebrities are out walking the streets, hooking up, hanging out at nightclubs or chilling in public places - and of course, the paparazzi are always close by to capture every moment. Celebrities have been known to strike out at the 'paps', Kanye west attacked a photographer at LAX airport, Bjork pulled the hair of a reporter, Alex Baldwin threatened photographers in the street and even Justin Bieber has offered to get physical with them.
There are two ways people view the paparazzi, they are either stalkers and lawbreakers who have no respect for celebrities' privacy, or they are an integral part of modern culture - capturing moments as they happen for the rest of the world to see.
Psychotherapist Susan Kolod explained to Psychology Today that there are many reasons we embrace scandal. One being that we take a "vicarious pleasure in the rule-breaking of another. Every person is tempted to break rules and boundaries but for the most part, resists. The scandalous person has given into temptation" and that "there is a sense of moral satisfaction when the scandalous person is humiliated or punished. It restores faith in the orderliness of the moral universe."
These following celebrities were all caught out failing as not just decent human beings but also as a parent. They want these pictures to disappear but thanks to the internet they are around to stay for a very long time.
16 Kim Kardashian Ignores North West Falling Over
Nothing comes between Kim Kardashian and the paparazzi - not even her 3-year-old North West. When her daughter collapsed on the ground, Kim continued to do her full-time job - working the cameras. Luckily North's big Aunty Kourtney was around to scoop the toddler off the floor she had just face-planted.
Kim is well-known for her over the top parenting style. She told Marie Claire magazine, "My diaper bag is a Birkin… a big one." Which sounds glamorous but it isn't in the best condition. The mother of two added, "There's milk everywhere, spilled all over it and I want to say, 'North' we need to be a little neater, this is a Birkin.' But obviously, it means nothing to her yet." We're sure one day North will be more respectful of luxury goods.
15 Kim Kardashian (Again) Ignoring A Chocking Hazard
Kim once again came under fire when she made a 'dangerous decision' allowing North to sleep in a pearl necklace. Everyone weighed in on the argument, even the experts as Alison Edwards, a senior lecturer in Midwifery at Birmingham City University, said, "Kim is being so irresponsible as a parent and treating her child like an accessory baby."
She added, "Babies have suffered injury and even fatalities due to inappropriate exposure to harmful items that they've been wearing or dressed in. I've known of babies who have lost fingers after getting them entwined in threads from their clothes and there is clearly a high possibility of this happening with a pearl necklace. Kim needs reminding that young babies aren't born with a gag reflex so her daughter wouldn't cough if she swallowed something harmful. Why else do we have health warning on toys?"
14 Madonna Giving Her 13-year-old Son Booze
Madonna decided to start the new year 2014 with a house party and her 13-year-old son Rocco Ritchie invited some of his friends over to join in. Just before midnight, Madonna shared the above photo on Instagram with the caption: "The party has just begun! Bring it! 2014!" but her 8 million followers did not see the funny side. Many called her out as a bad parent and irresponsible for encouraging underage drinking so publicly. The Queen of Pop herself responded that it was all a joke. She wrote, "Where is your sense of humor guys… Chill out."
Rocco, whose father is British film director Guy Ritchie, was caught only last year drinking beers under a bridge and smoking. So perhaps Madonna's laid back attitude to alcohol has not done her son any good.
13 Amanda Holden's "Pretty Woman" Instagram
Rule number one of parenting: always be cautious who you leave your children in the care of. Nobody understands this better now than Britain's Got Talent judge and actress Amanda Holden. A snap appeared on her Instagram showing her 9-year-old daughter Lexi dressed up as the famous hooker Vivian, played by Julia Roberts, in Pretty Woman. The young girl wore a signature full-length, shoulderless gown and the caption read: "1990's day at Lexi's school today. Julia Roberts "Pretty Woman."
The backlash was almost immediate with many commenting, "Totally inappropriate.wrong on so many levels" and "That is just WRONG!" The snap was then deleted after appearing for only eight minutes online as according to Amanda Holden's spokesperson she had not given her permission for any of this. Her longterm staffer, who was in charge of childcare and managing her social media profile, posted the shot. They were fired but the shocking image will be around for a long time.
12 Ryan Reynolds' Unsafe Baby Carrier
When Ryan Reynolds became a first-time father with his wife Blake Lively in 2015 it was quite clear he still a lot to learn. He posed for a beach shot with his newborn James but many were shocked as the carrier was not safely secured. During an interview with Today, the Deadpool star confessed, "The baby's not properly secured in the vessel that I'm wearing there." He continued, "I'm a first-time dad, and that is not the first mistake I've made. I can guarantee you it won't be last. I'd never used that particular carrier before. Every other time has been perfect."
Baby James was too low in the carrier to be safe and also her little feet were not in a comfortable position as they should be positioned around his hips instead of dangling. Fans commented, "Perfect parents out there raise your hands! No hands? That's what I thought!" And another added, "The 1st time I baby wore I had no freaking clue what I was doing. You live and you learn!"
11 Peaches Geldof Saving Her Phone Before Baby
Peaches Geldof, British socialite and daughter of Band Aid founder Sir Bob Geldof, was left red-faced in 2012 when her parenting fail was captured by the paparazzi. Peaches lost control of her pram near her London home when she was pushing her son Astala. It was an easy mistake to make but she took it a step further when she didn't end her phone call as her son fell out onto the pavement.
Peaches blamed the potholes on the ground for her mistake. She tweeted later about the incident, "It's impossible to see these cracks when pushing a pram. The Mayor of London should do something about it - it's ridiculous!" In 2014, Peaches sadly passed away from a heroin overdose. Her two sons are left in the care of her musician husband Thomas Cohen.
10 Shakira Takes Her Newborn Son To A Crowded Stadium
Just weeks after giving birth to her son Sasha, She Wolf singer Shakira took the newborn along to a very crowded, loud Camp Nou stadium in Barcelona. She was there to cheer on husband Gerard Piqué as he played on the pitch and was also accompanied by a nanny and her eldest son Milan. Witnesses reported the singer appeared distressed as she tried to calm her children over the shouts coming from more than 99,000 fans in the crowd.
Ear protection for youngsters is often overlooked - especially by celebrity parents who are performing on stage and want their children to enjoy the show too. The ear's of newborns are incredibly insensitive and to stop any permanent damage it's a good idea to keep earplugs or noise-cancelling headphones close by.
9 Martin Fuentes Waterskis With His 2-year-old Daughter
Formula 1 superstar Martin Fuentes caused quite the stir when photographs emerged of the Mexican-born racer waterskiing whilst holding onto his 3-year-old daughter, Carolina. Even though the little lady had an adorable set of armbands on, many spoke out about how they could see this as a seriously dangerous way to spend daddy and daughter time together - especially as the speed can reach up to 58 km/h.
This was not the only controversy that has haunted the family lately, his wife, Jacqueline Bracamontes who is a former Miss Brazil judge, was rocked by rumors of his infidelity. The brunette beauty wrote a tweet that translated to: "My family and I together, against everything and against everyone." She also took to Instagram to share lot's of family photos together in a bid to bury the bad news.
8 Katie Price Lets Daughter Loose With Makeup
British glamor model turned television presenter Katie Price caused outrage when she published pictures online of her 8-year-old daughter, named Princess Andre, with a full face of makeup including false eyelashes. Her father, Peter Andre who divorced Price in 2009, said the photos were "disgusting" and "difficult to deal with" suggesting that there had been a row over the images.
Price explained on the show Loose Women that her young daughter just see's how she does her own makeup and then copies. The mother-of-four said, "Princess sees how I pose. She thinks it's natural." Luckily when the comments started flooding in she realized that she had made a mistake. She added, "To me that's innocent because she's copying her mum. But after I posted it people were saying to me 'Oh my god Katie, think about (child predators).' And I thought, 'Oh yeah, you're right'. When you say it, you can see it."
7 Dina Lohan Gets Too Wild With Lindsay Lohan
Dina Lohan is considered by many as the worst mother in Hollywood. She has been accused over the years of sabotaging Lindsey Lohan's career and benefiting from her financially when she should have been more focused on keeping her daughter dry. Lindsey has battled with alcohol issues in the past and it seems from the photos that own mother was not the best role model. The pair have appeared stumbling around together and also like they were going to actually make out.
Bebe Buell, who is the mother of actress Liv Tyler, told Steppin' Out magazine, "What (Dina) has done with Lindsay is morally wrong and disgusting. She should back off. Lindsay is the one with the talent. She's the star." Adding, "Dina Lohan's relationship with her daughter Lindsay disturbs me. I don't see a mother and a daughter there. If my beautiful daughter was like that. I look at Lindsay and I see my own child in her because there's a great talent there."
6 Melania Trump's Creepy Photo Shoot With Her Son
Late December last year, during the final stretch of Donald Trump's campaign before he was announced as the 45th President of America, photos emerged of his wife and now first lady Melania Trump with her 10-year-old son, Barron Trump, that left people feeling a little uncomfortable. The photo was compared to the 1966 movie Blow-Up where the photographer straddles his subject in a provocative manner.
During Trump's inauguration, Melania was embarrassed once again when her young son snatched his hand away as she tried to hold it. Many also tweeted just how bored Barron looked throughout the entire ceremony. One wrote, "Barron Trump is yawning more than I do in my macroeconomics class" and another added, "Barron Trump is laughing, yawning, and on his Gameboy. He's quickly becoming my favorite Trump."
5 Britney Almost Dropping Her Son
Britney Spears' son was only eight-months-old when she almost dropped him on the sidewalk right outside The Ritz-Carlton Hotel in New York. In 2006, the paparazzi would not leave Britney alone - her life had become a tabloid drama and everyone wanted their piece of her. During the frenzied rush to take her photo, she lost her footing and Sean Preston's head jerked back quite painfully. It was a question whether Britney should have walked out with her son surrounded by such a hyped crowd and many agreed no.
The Gimme More singer told NBC News, "They put the captions on their magazines, 'Baby in danger' and stuff like that-which is really silly. But I wouldn't be in danger if I didn't have like this impactful thing around me all the time. It's kind of scary. I can't really leave my home right now."
4 Britney Spears (Again) Driving With A Baby On Her Lap
Another incident involving Britney and her eldest son, Sean Preston, actually resulted in an investigation by the New York county Department of Children and Family Services. She was picture driving an SUV without wearing a seatbelt and with Sean on her lap.
In a public statement, Britney explained, "I was terrified that this time the physically aggressive paparazzi would put both me and my baby in danger. I instinctively took measures to get my baby and me out of harm's way, but the paparazzi continued to stalk us,” she said. "I love my child and would do anything to protect him."
The company who were responsible for the pictures, X17, said, "(the pictures were taken) in a very peaceful context, in which photographers exhibited no aggressive behavior. We believe that the pictures speak for themselves."
3 David Hasslehoff's Cheeseburger Incident
David Hasselhoff's daughters were tired of seeing their father's drunken meltdowns and decided to go public. They filmed his laid on the floor, topless with just jeans on, eating a cheeseburger very clumsily. His 16-year-old daughter, Taylor-Ann, leaked the tape online and the rest was bad parenting history.
Hasselhoff could finally see his drunken behavior from the eyes of his own child and issued a public apology. In his statement, he said, "I am a recovering alcoholic. Unfortunately, one evening I did have a brief relapse, but part of recovery is relapse." The former Baywatch star added, "Because of my honest and positive relationship with my daughters, who were concerned for my well-being, there was a tape made that night to show me what I was like. I have seen the tape. I have learned from it and I am back on my game."
2 Farrah Abraham Plucked Her 3-year-old Daughter's Unibrow
When beady-eyed fans noticed that Teen Mom star Farrah Abraham's daughter, 3-year-old Sophia, appeared to have lost her unibrow they questioned what had happened - the truth was shocking. Farrah admitted on her blog that she "could not ignore" her daughter's unibrow and she plucked the small child as she slept.
In the disturbing post, she wrote, "So I told Sophia of the little issue on her brow, and I showed her how I waxed mine off, so I (tried) to wax her, the second a dab hit the Uni, she touch it with the towel she had in her hand." She continued, "Sophia (fell) asleep, I got my tweezers and Pluck-pluck-pluck… Soph was (not) saying ouch or anything and still was asleep, I got most of it off and then finally she woke up… I went to sleep." Farrah received no points for parenting well on this issue.
1 Michael Jackson Dangles Son Out Of The Window
In 2002, when Michael Jackson's youngest son Prince Michael II was only a few months old, the King of Pop made a near fatal error of dangling the baby over a third-floor balcony in Berlin in front of an excited crowd below. Even his best friend Uri Geller condemned his actions, as he told the press, "I just would not put any child over a railing at such a height. I think it was a silly thing to do. He probably did it because he was overwhelmed emotionally by the fans."
Jackson issued a formal apology. He said, "I got caught up in the excitement of the moment. I would never intentionally endanger the lives of my children." Sadly in 2009, Jackson died aged 50-years-old from acute propofol and benzodiazepine intoxication.
