Taylor Swift's Exes Where Are They Now?
Taylor Swift is famous for her all-powerful model heavy girl squad and the string of ex-boyfriends she uses to inspire her top charting songs. But until then, we'll just sit back and watch the line-up of men who try to win you over.
Here are 14 men who have had relations with Ms. Taylor Swift. Some of these were full on couplings with date nights and public declarations of love. Others were hidden affairs in the shadows that both sides deny or a few flirty text messages back and forth. But at one point or another, all of these Hollywood hunks were the best thing that has ever been hers.
14 Joe Jonas
Taylor's first public relationship was all the way back in 2008 with middle brother Joe Jonas. The two were both up and coming Disney teen stars so it only made sense that they would find each other and let their teenage hormones go wild. Unfortunately, things did not end very well. Taylor revealed that Joe broke up with her in a 27 second phone call. Rude, Joe! Taylor, naturally, was very upset and penned two angry break up songs in response, "Last Kiss" and "Forever and Always." Since then, she has gained a bit of perspective and wrote a more positive song about their relationship, "Holy Ground." Joe also responded to their relationship in a song but has moved on since then. In fact, both have decided to bury the hatchet; they even went on a double date last year with their then partner Gigi Hadid and Calvin Harris. After The Jonas Brothers finally broke up for good, Joe went on to be the lead singer of DNCE singing everyone's favorite, "Cake by the Ocean." He also had a role in last fall's "Grease Live."
13 Lucas Till
A short relationship bloomed in the spring of 2009 between actor Lucas Till and Taylor Swift. Lucas starred in Taylor's "You Belong With Me" music video as her cute next door neighbor. It seems that the two took their on-set chemistry off-set for a month of dating. This relationship must not have been long enough or dramatic enough for Taylor since it didn't get a song dedication on her next album. And maybe that's because Taylor and Lucas ended things on friendly terms. Lucas explained, "We just really both liked each other… [but] most relationships work out cause you get along and then you don't, and then you make up and it's passionate, and with us, I really just liked her as a friend. That's the only reason that didn't work out." After their relationship, Lucas got the role of Havok in the new X-Men series, starring in three X-Men movies so far. He also got the lead role in television series MacGyver.
12 Taylor Lautner
Taylor and Taylor! This was a fun relationship for us pop culture junkies who appreciated their matching names. Plus, we got to see the two in action as they co-starred as a couple in the movie Valentine's Day. It was adorable to see these two as high school sweethearts making out on the football field. The two dated from August until December 2009. The sweet tune, "Back to December" is all about Taylor Lautner. Swift actually apologizes for breaking his heart and references his tan skin and sweet smile in the song. It's not often that Taylor apologizes on her songs about ex-boyfriends. After their break up, Lautner continued working in TV and movies. He finished up the Twilight series and went on to star in Ryan Murphy's Scream Queens television series. His career has definitely cooled since his days of dating Taylor Swift, hosting SNL, and tearing it up as a werewolf on Twilight.
11 John Mayer
One of Taylor's most notorious and volatile relationships was with none other than Hollywood heartbreaker John Mayer. Why do we keep letting this guy date people? Remember when he and Jennifer Aniston were together? We are so out on Mayer. Anyway, he and Taylor were together from December 2009 until February 2010 when Taylor was a mere 19 years old. John meanwhile was 34 - 15 years older than Taylor! Taylor certainly does like to play with the age gap with her boyfriends. But this relationship did not end well. Poor 19-year-old Taylor was seriously heartbroken. She penned the very honest and forward ballad, "Dear John" directly to her former lover. Her lyrics were moving, "Don't you think I was too young to be messed with? The girl in the dress cried the whole way home. I should've known." John responded with his song, "Paper Dolls." Since then, John has been busy with his music. He toured in 2015 and 2016 with his band, Dead & Company, and will again in the summer of 2017. John also released two solo albums, The Search for Everything: Wave One and Wave Two, earlier this year.
10 Jake Gyllenhaal
From October 2010 to January 2011, Taylor Swift was all over the tabloids with her very public relationship with Jake Gyllenhaal. Things seemed to get serious quickly in this relationship. Taylor and Jake were spotted on lots of PDA-heavy dates and she even spent Thanksgiving at his sister Maggie Gyllenhaal's house. And then there was the black and white striped scarf that they shared. The scarf even made Taylor's song, "All Too Well," which was all about her relationship with Jake. "The Last Time" was also about Jake and how he was an unreliable guy. In the end, it may have been the age difference that did these two in. And it won't be the last time Taylor struggles with an age difference. Jake was 10 years older than Taylor and may have contributed to him dumping her over the phone. Jake has moved on just fine since then. He starred in big movies like Southpaw and Nightcrawler. More recently, Jake has been appearing on Broadway and has a show slated for the 2017-2018 season.
9 Adam Young
This might be the relationship that never was. Adam Young is the lead singer of Owl City. He and Taylor met backstage at one of his shows in January 2011. And of course, Adam was smitten. Who wouldn't be at the site of Taylor Swift? The two exchanged emails for months but it doesn't seem like things went any further than that. Which is a shame because we really like this match! And it seems like Taylor did too. Her song, "Enchanted" was written about their meeting. And when Adam found out, he recorded his own cover of "Enchanted" for the movie Valentine's Day which Taylor starred in! Talk about unrequited love. Adam did an interview back in 2011 where he was very open about his feelings for Taylor. He said, "When I met her she was glowing and I was too… She's just this endearing, wonderful girl… " He went on to say maybe something could happen. Adam has been busy with Owl City since then where he writes, produces, and sings his own music - just like Taylor! We could see these two reconnecting one day.
8 Chord Overstreet
Okay, so Chord Overstreet and Taylor Swift may have only been on one date. But still! It was certainly a memorable and well photographed date. Taylor and Chord were both beautiful young Hollywood stars with bright blonde hair, big smiles, and long features. They were born for the cameras! And boy were there cameras on their date to watch an LA Kings hockey game. We guess a sports game out in public isn't the best spot for a first date when you're mega famous like Taylor Swift. Chord, who was starring on Glee at the time, was also pretty popular. And this was the second Glee man for Taylor. We guess she likes a man who is nice to look at and has a decent singing voice. Fishing for a duet partner? Since his big date with Taylor, Chord continued to star on Glee until it ended in 2015. Last year he released his first official solo single, "Homeland", and followed that up with a second single, "Hold On" this February.
7 Garrett Hedlund
In April 2011, Taylor Swift and actor/singer Garrett Hedlund dated. Their relationship was very brief and didn't even get Garrett a shout-out on Taylor's next album. In fact, only one photo of the two of them on a date in Nashville was ever captured. And for all we know, that might have been their one and only date. Apparently the two were in constant email contact for a while but things fizzled out after they got together in person. Rule #1 of online dating, Taylor: you have to move your relationship off-screen ASAP to see if there is any chemistry in real life. Guess she didn't know that one. After their time together, Garrett went on to star in lots of big movies like Inside Llewyn Davis and Pan. In 2017, he has two more films coming out, Mudbound and Burden. Most notably, Garrett turned down the roles of Finnick Odair in The Hunger Games and Christian Grey in Fifty Shades of Grey. We guess Garrett just can't see a good thing when he has it! Don't worry Taylor, you're better off without this guy.
6 Eddie Redmayne
Eddie Redmayne is a hot British actor known for his roles in Les Miserables, The Theory of Everything, The Danish Girl and most recently as the star in the series Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them. But before he became an Oscar winning actor and devoted husband and father, Eddie was rumored to have had a little fling with one Miss Taylor Swift. Of course, Eddie denies the rumors. But the cameras don't lie. Back in the fall of 2011, the media reported that these two were an item. It was at this time that both were auditioning for the Les Miserables movie. Eddie would go on to star as Marius while Taylor would lose out on the role of Eponine to Samantha Barks, who played the role on Braodway. But during the audition process, Eddie and Taylor were seen on multiple outings in New York City. Just helping each other learn your lines or showing a tourist around NYC? We doubt it!
5 Zac Efron
Taylor Swift and Zac Efron got romantic in the spring of 2012 as they were busy promoting their movie, The Lorax. Spending so much time together doing press for the animated film must have led to lots of late nights with their guitars in quiet hotels around the world - the perfect setting for a blooming relationship. Who wouldn't want to get cozy with the High School Musical heart throb? Well, apparently not Taylor. Both Taylor and Zac deny that anything was happening, but we know sparks when we see them. However they are both adamant that their relationship was always platonic. They even went so far as to perform a parody version of Foster the People's "Pumped Up Kicks" on Ellen changing the lyrics to a flat out denial about their relationship. If you have to try that hard to deny it, seems like there might be something you're hiding… Since The Lorax, Zac has starred in a number of other films and even had a brief stint in rehab. This year, his highly anticipated film, Baywatch, will be hitting screens.
4 Conor Kennedy
From July to October 2012, Taylor cozied up to American royalty when she chose Conor Kennedy, grandson of Robert F Kennedy, as her next boyfriend. It was nice to see Taylor dating someone with strong family values and who wasn't caught up in all of the Hollywood drama. She needed a break from all of the actors and musicians she was hanging out with. Conor was a welcome break. And it seemed like things were getting serious between the two. Taylor went so far as to buy a house near the Kennedy compound in Hyannis Port, Massachusetts. We thought things were going to last once she was in with the family. But unfortunately, the relationship fizzled by the fall. Some cite the age difference, Taylor was 22 while Conor was only 18 and a senior in high school, for the break up. We can't imagine touring the world as a famous pop star and then having to rush home to make your boyfriend's high school prom. Maybe we can revisit this relationship once Conor grows up. But looks like that might be a long time coming. Just in December, Conor was arrested and charged for disorderly conduct for his participation in a bar fight in Colorado.
3 Harry Styles
Our favorite moment from this relationship has to be when Taylor mocked Harry during a performance by putting on a British accent during her song, "We Are Never Getting Back Together." Ouch! Despite only being together for a mere month from December 2012 to January 2013, this coupling inspired multiple Swifty songs. "I Knew You Were Trouble" was written about Styles. And so was "Out of The Woods" as it references their December snowmobile accident and "Style" for the singer's last name. So clearly things did not end well with this relationship. But at least we got some good music out of it! We also got some adorable photos of the two of them walking around Central Park. The idea of the pop princess and the boy band lead looked good on paper. But Taylor needed someone much older and wiser than a bad boy youngin' like Harry Styles. Harry is currently working on his three solo album record deal with Columbia Records and will be starring in his first movie, Dunkirk, this July.
2 Calvin Harris
Ah, Tayvin. If we're being honest, Calvin Harris was one of our favorite Taylor Swift boyfriends. We really thought these two were going the distance! First of all, they were beautiful together. They're both super leggy blonde hotties, so they're PDA-filled Instagram shots were lust-worthy. And they're both young, hot music stars, so they could go to the same events and hang out at the same parties. Plus, they just seemed really in love. Calvin and Taylor were together for over a year. Calvin went to Taylor's for Christmas and built snowmen with her family. He even bought her a tree for her house and inspired some of her home decor. We loved watching their at home date nights playing with her cats and beautiful beach vacations. These two were amazing. And we're so sad things ended as abruptly as they did. They say her fame was just too much for him. Sad. But Harris doesn't seem too upset about it. Just last month he was releasing new music with Frank Ocean.
1 Tom Hiddleston
Taylor's most recent public relationship was with Tom Hiddleston from June to September of 2016. When this couple was first spotted together, people were pretty shocked. For starters, she and Calvin Harris hadn't ended things too long before Hiddleswift started up - which naturally led to a few Twitter battles. But more than that, no one pictured this couple together. Tom Hiddleston is almost a decade older than Taylor Swift. But Taylor has dated older men before, so that wasn't so shocking. We just didn't think these two would run in the same circles! Taylor is hanging with young models and pop singers while Tom is busy filming Avengers movies or critically acclaimed TV shows. But most shocking of all was how crazy this relationship appeared. The two were seen jet-setting all over the world from Italy and Australia to England where they hung out with Tom's parents. And then Tom made jaws drop when he showed up at Taylor's 4th of July party sporting an "I <3 TS" temporary tattoo. We're still not sure if this whole thing was a publicity stunt or not. Tom is currently working on the latest Thor movie, in which he plays bad brother Loki, set to release later this year.
