The 15 Biggest Celeb Sibling Rivalries
Showbiz is a competitive business - there is no denying that. To hit the big time you must have either a lot of God-given talent, some excellent contacts or a famous family name to springboard you up to the top. So many wannabes never get past the first hurdle, so it's always a pleasant surprise when not only one sibling becomes a star - but two!
This doesn't mean the competition will become less fierce - actually it is even tougher as the press will constantly compare the two. Who is the better looking sibling? Who has more talent? Who has more fans? Fame can really turn happy families into serious rivals.
There are tons of famous families and many are able to happily share the limelight together. However, for these following stars, they just couldn't let their sibling take over the show and their rivalry won't be dying down anytime soon.
15 Kim Kardashian and Kylie Jenner
It's easy to compare 18-year-old Kylie Jenner with her older sister 35-year-old Kim Kardashian because the pair are just too alike. They are both big fans of the pouty selfie, they love contouring, they have millions of fans on social media, they are trendsetters and they also love a good set of plumped up lips.
This year, Kylie also announced that she was launching her own gaming app, the "Kendall and Kylie game" to rival the "Kim Kardashian game" - going one better and adding personalized videos to their game. The Instagram war is also at it's height - with Kylie shortly behind Kim with 57.2 million followers compared to Kim's 66.5 million. It won't be long until everyone can finally say - Kim who?
14 Gigi and Bella Hadid
19-year-old Bella Hadid is not happy with being constantly compared to her sister 20-year-old Gigi Hadid. She told Seventeen magazine, "People still love to compare and contrast us - what's better about her or what's not that good about me - and it's hard because people are really mean." There might be a spot of jealousy between them as Bella also added, "And she can eat whatever she wants. It's really annoying."
The sisters also bagged themselves hot music artists to push the rivalry even further. Gigi is romancing ex-One Direction member 23-year-old Zayn Malik, and Bella has hooked up with The Weeknd's Abel Tesfaye who is seven years her senior.
13 Kate and Rooney Mara
33-year-old Kate Mara and 30-year-old Rooney Mara are so alike and close in age that quite often they compete for the same Hollywood roles. Kate told The Independent last year, "Of course it's complicated. It's complicated even if you just have a friend who's an actor because the whole business is competition. You're constantly being compared to other actresses and if you don't have a good perspective on that then it can be confusing."
Rooney has already scooped an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress after she took on the dark role of Lisbeth Salander in David Fincher's The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Whereas Kate was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series for her role as Zoe Barnes in House of Cards. The race for an Oscar win is on between these two headstrong sisters.
12 Dakota and Elle Fanning
For 22-year-old Dakota Fanning and 18-year-old Elle Fanning, they avoid clashing with each other over movie roles by keeping their scripts top secret. In an interview with the Philippine Daily Inquirer, Elle revealed, "People ask that all the time. We never even discuss films with each other. We decide (separately) on which films we want to do. We never read each other's scripts. That's off-limits."
The two are so adamant that they don't want to be compared to each other, they have even relocated to opposite sides of the states. Dakota has set up home in New York City, while Elle moved out to Los Angeles. Keeping to such strict rules allows the girls to stay close as sisters without work getting in the way.
11 Mark and Donnie Wahlberg
Mark Wahlberg is a lot busier than his older brother Donnie - too busy in fact to even attend his wedding to Jenny McCarthy in 2014. Instead Mark just sent Donnie a video via Instagram to say congratulations. Reps for Mark told TMZ that his family couldn't attend the wedding as they were celebrating the birthday of his daughter, Ella Rae, as he would have been away filming on her actual birthday. Seriously?
10 Lindsay and Ali Lohan
Earlier this year, 29-year-old Lindsay Lohan posted an image on Instagram saying that she was "done" with her own mother, Dina Lohan. She complained her mother wasn't giving her enough attention before deleting the post. Since she was very young, Lindsay has been in constant competition with her younger sister, 22-year-old Ali, as the pair fought for their mother's approval.
Dina, herself a former dancer and singer, hungered for fame and used both her daughters to get into the spotlight. Lindsay had a succesful movie career, landing dream roles in flicks Mean Girls and Freaky Friday, before her unruly behavior damaged her reputation. Ali was set for a career in modelling after being signed to Next Model Management, however her dramatic weight loss has seen a lot of brands steer away from working with her. Right now, it's more of a competition between the two to see who can stay relevant.
9 Julia and Eric Roberts
Despite ten years between them in age, Julia and Eric Roberts were once close as siblings - they even lived together after Julia moved out of the family home. Then fame got the better of them, Julia's career began to reach dizzy new heights and she left Eric behind. He turned to drink and drugs causing his longterm girlfriend, Kelly Cunningham, to leave him. What made matters even worse, was Julia had funded Kelly's legal defense so she could claim sole custody of her and Eric's only daughter, Scream Queens actress Emma Roberts.
Then in 2015, the siblings reunited after the death of their mother, Betty Lou. Eric revealed in an interview with The Blot that their whole feud had been blown out of proportion anyway. He said, "Listen, the only issue I ever had with my sister was that she got sick of always being treated as my little sister. She's 11 years younger than me. During Pretty Woman she just said, 'This is enough of that shit. I don't want to hear any more about Eric.' She just wanted to be recognized as an actress on her own and not as Eric's sister. The press blew things way out of proportion. We talk every day; we're pals."
8 Ben and Casey Affleck
Both Ben and Casey Affleck came from humble beginnings yet now the Affleck family name carries a lot of weight in Hollywood. Ben gained international fame when he and childhood friend Matt Damon won both the Golden Globe and the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay for their 1997 film Good Will Hunting. He then went on to star in huge blockbusters Armageddon, Gone Girl, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad.
Casey got his first leg up in the acting world thanks to Ben after he was cast in his movie Good Will Hunting. Then years later, he took on the starring role in Gone Baby Gone, which was directed by his brother, and landed him an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor. We're sure Casey has a lot to thank Ben for helping him along in Hollywood - even if he is still quite envious of his talents.
7 Madonna and Christopher Ciccone
Christopher is the younger brother of Madonna, he began his career as her backup dancer yet now the two are hardly on speaking terms. In 2008, he released a tell-all book named Life With My Sister Madonna which debuted at No. 2 on the New York Times Best Seller List and No. 8 on Amazon.com's bestseller list.
The feuding between the two siblings has been going on for decades, Ciccone, who is openly gay, stated in the book that Madonna outed him about his sexuality in an interview without consulting him back in 1991. The book also dishes out other revelations including naming almost every man she has had sex with and detailing how she lost her virginity in the back of a car. Ciccone writes: "She (fired) me 19 times more and each time I apologize and promise to go to Kabbalah, but when she refuses to reimburse me for the Athena print I bought for her, I've finally had enough. So now, I sit alone in my bedsit, bitter, yet content, praying for the moment Madonna's career hits the skids and her kids end up in therapy. Just like me." Well if nothing else - at least he's honest.
6 Noel and Liam Gallagher
Oasis frontmen, Noel and Liam Gallagher, are well known as the most argumentative brothers in the music industry. Their first public fight was back in 1994, while on stage in LA, Liam hit Noel across the head with a tambourine and threatened to quit. On the same tour, Liam also threw a chair at his brother causing Noel to leave the tour early.
During an interview with NME magazine a year later, the brothers spent the entire time just telling each other to "shut up" and "f**k off". That same year, Liam invited a large group of friends back to the recording studio for a party when Noel was trying to work - causing Noel to hit Liam over the head with a cricket bat. In 2009, they finally went their separate ways after Noel quit the band when Liam swung a guitar at him. Noel recalls that Liam picked up the guitar and started "wielding it about like an axe… he nearly took my face off." Rock and Roll indeed!
5 Serena and Venus Williams
There is such a thing as healthy competition and the Williams sisters sure know it. Venus and Serena have faced each other in the tennis court 27 times, most recently in the Quarterfinals of the US Open on September 8th, 2015, which was won by Serena. To date, the record is 16-11 in Serena's favor.
Both sisters have been ranked No. 1 in the world at some point in their career. They are the only two women to play each other in four consecutive Grand Slam finals. Venus currently holds 49 singles titles, while Serena holds 69. Although the rivalry has been ongoing for quite some time, the sisters remain very close.
4 Charlie Sheen and Emilio Estevez
We can imagine having Charlie Sheen as your younger brother is quite the nightmare. Their father Martin Sheen, whose real name is Ramón Estevez, has always appeared to favour Emilio Estevez over Charlie Sheen, whose infamous meltdown made headlines in 2011. The family had very little to say about the moment that Sheen lost it and ranted that he was a "warlock" with "tiger blood" and "Adonis DNA", and that he was "winning".
Sheen's comedy roast on the Comedy Central channel was one of the most watched of all time with 6.4 million viewers tuning in. His brother and father stayed clear of the evening despite being the butt of many of the jokes. Comedian Jeffrey Ross joked, "Martin Sheen and Emilio Estevez said they would have been here tonight, but they had a family obligation - you make your own father ashamed that he shares the same fake name with you." The last time the family were all photographed together was late 2011.
3 Jessica and Ashlee Simpson
Ashlee Simpson really told it like it is with her 2004 single "Shadow" about living just outside of her older sister Jessica Simpson's spotlight. Their father, Joe Simpson, relocated the family to Los Angeles, California, when the two very young so they could pursue entertainment careers.
However, Jessica's career took off much earlier than Ashlee's career, which prompted her to pen the song. The lyrics read: "She was beautiful. She had everything and more. And my escape was hiding out and running for the door. Somebody listen please. It used to be so hard being me. Living in the shadow. Of someone else's dream." Ashlee told People magazine that the song touched a nerve with her family. She revealed, "They all bawl whenever they listen to it-my sister, my parents, everybody."
2 Kim and Kyle Richards
Real Housewives of Beverly Hills stars Kim and Kyle Richards have never had an easy relationship - made all the more public as they both star in the reality TV franchise. The cause of the problem appears to be Kim's struggle with sobriety. In 2015, Kim, who is a recovering addict, was arrested and charged with trespassing, public intoxication, resisting an officer, and battery on a police officer at the Beverly Hills Hotel. She spent the night in Los Angeles County Jail and was released on bail the following morning. Then a few months later, she was arrested again for allegedly shoplifting at a San Fernando Valley Target department store.
Matters had become worse when Kim became close friends with another rival of Kyle's - their co-star Brandi Glanville. Kyle was infuriated when Brandi was pictured on a day out with her sister, posing with a t-shirt that had the slogan: "It's Not Fun To Be Sober." The bitter battle between the two sisters, whose nieces are Paris and Nicky Hilton, continues into the sixth season of the show and doesn't appear to be cooling down anytime soon.
1 Beyonce and Solange
At the Met Ball 2014, a jaw-dropping video was leaked to the press that showed Beyonce's sister Solange kicking, punching and shouting abuse at her husband, Jay-Z. What caused the assault? Nobody really knows but it is safe to say that the history of rivalry between the two sisters has been causing tension over the years. Shortly after "lift-gate" Solange deleted her older sister from both Twitter and Instagram, alongside removing all photos of them together on her social media. Also a source close to the girls claimed that Beyonce kept her calm during the fight as she was "used to this" kind of behavior from her sister.
Another theory about the fight was that Jay-Z had not helped Solange with her career like he had done for Beyonce. A source told the Daily Mail, "He hasn't kept his promise to help her. Jay keeps telling her to give him some time and he will sit down and write with her and then get her into the studio but he hasn't done it yet. Solange wants a major career like her sister and she's tired of living in her shadow. She's jealous. Jay Z promised he would help take her to the next level but he never found the time to keep his word." Whatever the truth is - Solange has some serious catching up to do if she wants to be in the same league as her older sister.
