13 Celeb Fan Bases You Don't Wanna Mess With
Most of us are at least a little bit interested in the lives of celebrities - after all, there's a reason that gossip magazines and websites continue to thrive. We love finding out more about the celebrities whose style or sass we want to emulate. And, in the age of social media, it's even easier to feel like you know everything about your favourite celebrity - you can see their behind the scenes shots preparing for an upcoming scene or tour, or just see what they do in their down time.
Every celebrity, no matter how D-List, likely has a handful of fans out there. While most people will have heard of the big A-List stars, there are celebrities who have cultivated a sizeable following, even though they may not regularly step foot on a red carpet, or might not be household names. However, for some celebrities, their fan bases are on a whole new level. They have nicknames banding them together as a fan base, and they are totally, utterly devoted. They'll send positive vibes out to their favourite celeb, commenting on their social media posts or snatching up any magazines with the star on the cover. And, when the going gets tough and their beloved celeb is involved in a scandal or is being trashed, they're just as vocal in their defense.
Here are 13 celeb fan bases that you absolutely do not want to mess with.
13 Beyoncé
We're going to start with Queen B, as her fan base are likely at the front of people's minds after the whole 'Becky with the Good Hair' incident. In case you've been living under a rock and don't know what Lemonade is, we'll refresh you - one of the songs on Beyoncé's latest album refers to her rapper hubby allegedly having an affair with 'Becky with the good hair.' Members of the Beyhive, Beyoncé's fan base, immediately went on the warpath, tearing down any celebrity who was speculated to potentially have been 'Becky.' What lesson did the world learn from that seemingly throwaway lyric? Do not, under any circumstance, mess with Queen B. The Beyhive will sting you to within an inch of your life.
12 Britney Spears
While many non-fans feel that Britney Spears hasn't really been a big deal since she was a sexy rising star churning out hits like “Baby, One More Time,” let's just take a look at the facts. Sure, she's had her periods of withdrawing from the public a bit, and there was that whole head shaving incident. However, Britney has put out hit after hit, and shows no signs of slowing down. I mean, who can forget the opening line of “Gimme More” - “It's Britney, bitch.” Britney's Army is just as strong now as when the starlet was just getting started, they're still buying every album, and now they're stopping by to visit the Queen of pop in Vegas.
11 Lady Gaga
Everyone knows about Lady Gaga's fan base, who are lovingly referred to as her Little Monsters. Gaga earned a reputation for doing her own thing, stepping onto the red carpet in a meat dress and constantly appearing in crazy outfits while her fellow pop stars kept things more sparkly, sexy, and predictable. Her risk taking earned her a devoted legion of outsiders who identified with the quirky starlet who urged everyone to love themselves - just listen to “Born This Way.” Her little monsters are a killer fan base who just love to dress up and rock the playful monster claw hand signal, but don't let that fool you - if you insult Gaga, they will definitely come after you.
10 Rihanna
While pop stars lately are getting a bit more risqué (just check out Miley Cyrus' transformation, for example), there was a time when most pop stars were extremely clean cut - think a young Christina Aguilera, Britney Spears, and Jessica Simpson. Even today, many popstars put out songs that are simply fun, flirty hits to sing along to. Not Rihanna. Bad Gal RiRi does her own thing, and to be honest, she 100% does not care what anyone else thinks. She changes her bold style whenever she feels like it, she is open about her love of weed, she rocks gun tattoos and speaks frankly about things because why not? She's Rihanna. Her bold, in your face attitude has earned her countless fans who will defend her to the very end.
9 Justin Bieber
Once upon a time, a young Canadian boy with angelic vocals was discovered and brought into the pop industry to record an album. And then, Justin Bieber was born. At first, Bieber was just a safe, twee icon for tweens to fangirl over. Then, as he began to grow up a bit, he tried to stray from his twee persona and get a little bit more edgy. However, through it all, one thing has remained consistent - his fan base, Beliebers, are absolutely nuts about the Canadian crooner. They will trash any girl rumored to be involved with Bieer, they will defend any questionable behavior he exhibits, and they will flood his social media accounts with endless compliments. Trust us - they may seem like harmless tweens, but you don't want to mess with the Beliebers.
8 One Direction
For awhile, it seemed as though boy bands were a thing of the past - after the big groups like NSYNC and the Backstreet Boys, there weren't really any memorable boy bands on the scene. That is, until a few British teens auditioned for a talent show and were brought together to create a group - One Direction. Any girl that any of the Directioners date is endlessly scrutinized, and every move they make is followed. When Zayn Malik decided to leave the band to pursue a solo career, many of the fans were absolutely inconsolable.
7 Drake
There are many rappers who have a devoted fan base, but for some reason, the man from Toronto seems to have particularly enthusiastic fans. Perhaps he's at the center of everyone's attention due to his involvement with the Toronto Raptors, perhaps he just has a ton of famous friends who keep him in the spotlight, perhaps it's because he adores his Canadian hometown - whatever the reason, Drake has a lot of fans who were eagerly awaiting his latest album. Whenever he has some kind of beef with another artist, his fan base has his back.
6 Taylor Swift
Despite her young age, Taylor Swift has undergone quite the transformation since entering the music industry - she started out as a curly haired country cutie and has since evolved into a sleek, chic pop star. However, one thing has remained consistent throughout her career - her fan base, the Swifties. T-Swift has an incredibly devoted following who will pretty much support any project she works on, and endlessly retweet all her girl power messages and squad selfies. And the Swifties aren't scared of anyone - when comedy powerhouses Tina Fey and Amy Poehler made a joke about Swift at the Golden Globes one year, her fans went absolutely nuts. Swift squad forever.
5 Katy Perry
Since bursting onto the scene with the smash hit “I Kissed A Girl,” Katy Perry has earned her fair share of fans, who call themselves KatyCats. Perry has become known for her fun, almost cartoon-ish stage presence, as she often wears brightly coloured wigs and costumes with elements that spin and twirl - it's like Willy Wonka's chocolate factory. She may not appear to have the same type of audience as some of the other big stars with crazy fan bases, but trust us - the KatyCats will defend Perry endlessly and buy any album she puts out.
4 The Kardashians
There's not really a cute nickname for this fan base, as it incorporates several sisters, but there's no doubting that the world is obsessed with the Kardashians. First came Kim, who put the family on the map. Then came the reality show, which introduced the world to Kourtney and Khloe. And finally, in the past few years, as they've gotten past their childhood and are entering adulthood, Kendall and Kylie. The Kardashians are a regular feature in every gossip magazine, and the sisters keep getting spin-offs and individual brand partnerships - the possibilities are truly endless in Kardashian world. Their fan base is basically what keeps it all going - the Kardashian fans buy Kylie's lip kits, they play Kim's app, they watch Khloe's terrible reality show. The Kardashian fans are devoted - perhaps it's because many fans felt they really got to know the sisters, since they had an inside look into their lives for years on the reality show.
3 Chris Brown
This fan base proves just how devoted fans can be. Once upon a time, Chris Brown was just another rising rapper with a few hits under his belt, virtually undistinguishable from some of his fellow rappers. And then came the Rihanna incident. And then came his many cringe-worthy statements to the press. To the general public, regardless of what he does in the studio, Chris Brown has done enough in his personal life to warrant just ignoring him and his projects. However, he has inexplicably managed to keep a strong fan base, Team Breezy, that will defend him regardless of what he does.
2 Selena Gomez
Sure, her former boyfriend has one of the biggest and craziest fan bases in the world, but Selena Gomez isn't exactly a nobody - she has her own powerful and devoted following, the Selenators. Gomez got her start on sweeter than pie Disney shows, singing family friendly hits, and has since gone on to pursue her own music and acting career. And, anyone who has seen her “Hands To Myself” video knows that she's crafting an entirely different, sexier image as of late. Through it all, her Selenators are by her side, telling Gomez she doesn't need Bieber in her life, telling her she's a strong, sexy, independent woman, and buying all her albums. You don't want to mess with the Selenators.
1 Zoe Sugg
Zoe Sugg - better known as Zoella - may not exactly be an A-List name, but in the world of YouTube stars, she is basically George Clooney and Julia Roberts and Brad Pitt combined. You may think that even the biggest internet star can't command the same type of fame as a silver screen celeb, but consider this - Zoella has been outspoken about fans literally coming to her house and peering over her fence to try to get a glimpse, just as they do with A List actors and actresses. Many YouTube vloggers have earned quite the fan bases over the years, but the British starlet has charmed audiences and earned a following that continually grows. As with anything on the internet, everyone has different opinions, but good luck if you ever decide to make a negative comment on one of Zoella's videos - her fans will come out in full force, defending their sweet as pie queen.
