13 Celebs You Didn't Know Were Young Moms
Some people cut back on work when they become moms, but for others, having a kid is just another thing that happens on their journey toward being a star. Some celebrities actually became mothers quite young, and none of the women on this list let it slow them down, even if they were raising the kid alone. Some of the celebs on this list gave birth way before they became famous, while others were already child stars and still had time to become young moms. All 13 of the women on this list gave birth in their teen years, and most of them have done pretty well for themselves.
13 Sofia Vergara
Sofia Vergara became a mother long before her breakout role on Modern Family, which made her the highest paid woman on TV. Sofia was only 19 when she had her son Manolo. She started modelling at 17 when she was discovered on a beach in Colombia. She was hesitant to take the job until the nuns at her Catholic school gave her the go ahead, and her Pepsi commercial ran all over Latin America. Her acting career took off from there, and now she has four Primetime Emmy Award nominations for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series.
12 Solange
Beyonce's younger sister, Solange Knowles, had her son when she was only 18. Solange sang publicly for the first time at age five, started writing music at age nine, and released her first album in 2003 after her parents urged her to wait a bit. She married Daniel Smith in 2004 and moved to Idaho to raise their son. After their divorce, she moved to L.A. in 2007 and has been working on her singing career ever since. In 2014, she married music video director Alan Ferguson.
11 Jamie Lynn Spears
Britney's little sis Jamie Lynn was only 16 when she became pregnant. Jamie Lynn had her first acting role in Crossroads, where she played the younger version of Britney's character. In 2005, Jamie Lynn snagged the lead on the Nickelodeon show Zoey 101, and in 2007 announced that she was pregnant at the age of 16. Following the birth of her daughter Maddie in 2013, she began her career as a country artist.
10 Fantasia
The season three American Idol winner Fantasia Barrino was only 16 when she had her daughter with ex-boyfriend Brandel Shouse. Her Idol audition was named one of the AOL 2004 list of greatest television moments, and Randy Jackson called it the best performance in the show's history. In 2004, she released her first single "I Believe" which debuted in the number one spot, making her the first artist to do so with their first single. She won three Billboard Music Awards for the song and is still singing and acting.
9 Anna Nicole Smith
Anna Nicole Smith gave birth to her son Daniel at 18 and they both unfortunately died untimely deaths. Anna Nicole rose to fame posing for Playboy and landed modelling gigs with huge companies like Guess. She got married three years after dropping out of high school to Billy Wayne Smith, the cook at the fried chicken restaurant where she was working at the time. Both Daniel and Anna Nicole died of overdoses.
8 Bristol Palin
Sarah Palin's daughter Bristol gave birth to her son Tripp when she was only 18. Bristol's teen pregnancy caused quite a bit of a stir, of course, thanks to Sarah's attempt at a political career (as the VP, no less). Bristol became a spokesperson for the National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy, got a reality show, wrote a book, landed a role on The Secret Life of the American Teenager, and even starred on Dancing With the Stars twice. She now also has a daughter named Sailor Grace.
7 Naomi Judd
Naomi Judd has two daughters, Wynonna and actress Ashley Judd, and gave birth to Wynonna at 18. She raised both girls as a single parent after splitting from Michael Ciminella, and eventually all of the ladies shot into super-stardom. Naomi and Wynonna became the most famous mother-daughter singing team ever, and naturally they called themselves The Judds. The duo won five Grammy awards and had 20 top-ten hits. Naomi has also won a Grammy solo as a songwriter. Ashley, of course, became a movie star.
6 Roseanne Barr
Later in life, actress Roseanne Barr reunited with the kid she gave up for adoption at 17. She was a high-school dropout and was admitted to a mental hospital following a car accident. She worked as a dishwasher and waitress before starting a stand-up career. She got her own stand-up comedy show in 1987 and her career took off from there. Today, she has four other children.
5 Niki Taylor
Model Niki Taylor had twin boys when she was 18. At only 13, she won a $500,000 modelling contract. By the time she was 14, she landed the cover of Seventeen, and by 15 she became the second youngest model to land a Vogue cover. A few months after Niki graduated from high school, she met football player Matt Martinez and the two eloped. They had a formal wedding while she was pregnant but the marriage didn't last. Today, she has two more children with husband Burney Lamar.
4 Natalia Vodianova
Russian supermodel Natalia Vodianova is known for having a serious rags-to-riches story. She sold fruit on the street to support her family and is now one of the highest paid supermodels. She began modelling at 15 and married Justin Portman when she was eight months pregnant with her first child at the age of 18. In 2012, she came in third on the Forbes model list, and at one point inked an eight season and seven-figure deal with Calvin Klein.
3 Shirley Temple
Child star Shirley Temple had quite the career before she gave birth at the age of 19. Shirley was Hollywood's number-one box office star from 1935 through 1938, and was a triple threat: a singer, dancer, and actress. Her film career started at the age of three and really took off from there. She was 15 when she met her boyfriend John Agar, and after they got married when she was 17, she gave birth to their daughter Linda Susan. John was an Army Air Corps sergeant when they met, but he became an actor as well and they even worked together.
2 Keisha Castle-Hughes
Keisha Castle-Hughes saw fame at the age of 13 after starring in the film Whale Rider, and she became the youngest woman to be nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award. By the time she was 17, she gave birth to her daughter Felicity-Amore. Keisha has continued to enjoy a successful acting career, including a role in Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith, and joined the ever popular HBO show Game of Thrones in Season 5 as the character Obara Sand.

Aretha Franklin was only 14 when she had her first kid and had her second kid at 18… all before her career took off. She started a singing career at 18 and ultimately sold 75 million records, won 18 Grammy Awards, and became one of the bestselling music artists of all time. She was also the first female performer to ever be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. She has four sons in total.
