13 Reasons Lukas Graham Should Be Your New Music Obsession
If you haven't heard of Lukas Graham yet, that's definitely going to change super soon. If you have heard, of course, you know their beautiful, inspiring song 7 Years. The band is from Denmark and were really popular there before recently breaking out in the U.S. It's pretty hard to escape their hit single since it's basically playing 24/7 on any radio station. The front man/lead singer Lukas Graham Forchhammeris who we're focusing on here, since he's the main voice both literally and lyrically, and he's getting all the media attention recently. It's interesting how popular music changes from month to month. We still have some girl bands and boy bands that are super pop-focused, but now we're seeing some truly talented singer-songwriters who touch our hearts and souls (if we want to get all cheesy about it). Here are 13 reasons Lukas Graham should be your new music obsession.
13 He's A Beautiful Songwriter
Seriously, just listen to 7 Years even once and you won't believe how truly beautiful this song is. Lukas is a huge, huge talent. Like huge. We can't stress that enough. The song is about how you feel about yourself and life at various ages, from 7 to 20 to 30 and 60, and how you want to be a good person with good friends surrounding you. Another stand-out song is called Happy Home and is about how despite the fact that his dad died a few years ago, Lukas still feels he has strong family and friends around him.
12 He's Sensitive
If anyone wears their heart on their sleeve, it would be Lukas Graham. He's got no issues writing super personal lyrics about his feelings, which definitely is the trademark of a true, real and pure artist. He loves his friends, which is really sweet and makes him very endearing, because it's pretty rare for a twentysomething guy to talk so fondly of the guys that he hangs out with.
11 He's Emotional
Of course, if you're sensitive, then you're probably emotional, too. That's definitely true for this singer. He's mostly emotional about losing his dad and will seriously move you and make you cry whenever he writes/sings about the experience. As he sings in 7 Years, “Once I'll be 60 years old, my daddy got 61, remember life and then your life becomes a better one.” You're crying already, right?
10 He's A Family Man
Lukas definitely appreciates his family and the way that he was raised. He grew up in a commune type-situation in Denmark, and while his dad is no longer around, he still is very close with his mom, which is super sweet. Take this verse from 7 Years: “I used to practice with my mommy on the piano, I still get nervous every time she's at a show.” He often posts adorable selfies of him and his mom hanging out.
9 He's A Dreamer
He literally writes about following his dream of music in almost every single one of his songs. It's pretty cool to get that kind of insight into his heart and mind. In one song from his band's self-titled album, Lukas sings about people suggesting that he chill out after his dad passing away and how he felt he had to keep going and keep moving towards his goals and dreams. If you're a dreamer, you will totally relate.
8 He's Got Wanderlust
It makes sense that many artists love to travel, since they adore going to new places, meeting new people and trying new things. They want to experience all the amazing things that life has to offer, and Lukas is no different. He often tweets and posts on Instagram about how he and his band/best friends are seeing so much of the world now and couldn't be happier.
7 He's Grateful
You definitely are used to stars who take everything for granted and don't seem to appreciate a single second of their success. So it's especially amazing that Lukas is so completely and totally grateful for what he has accomplished. You can see it on his social media and in his lyrics, too.
6 He Works Hard
It's not like Lukas and his band are a total one-hit wonder or had some overnight success. He has often said it's super annoying that the media likes to act like that happened, because it couldn't be further from the truth. They have worked crazy hard to get where they are today, and they prove that, yeah, your mom was right. If you try and do what you can, you'll be successful and get what you want.
5 He's Supportive
Just check out his Instagram account for even five minutes and you'll see him posting photos of all kinds of other musicians. Sometimes he's paying tribute to those who have passed away too soon, which just proves how supportive he is of other music men. It's cool to see a true musician who is really devoted to his craft but also appreciates the talent of others, instead of just seeing everyone as a huge competition.
4 He's Hungry
It's not a great idea to coast on your past success and never try to reach for the stars, no matter what industry you're in, no matter whether you're famous or not. Lukas Graham would never dream of coasting. He's hungry for success and seems to always be interested in learning and growing, which is definitely admirable for anyone in any field.
3 He Doesn't Care About Fame
It can be a total turn-off when stars seem to adore their Hollywood status, whether they're singers or actresses. Thankfully, Lukas doesn't seem to give a crap about being known and adored. That just makes him even more charming and endearing.
2 He Mixes Styles Of Music
The self-titled album mentioned above is pretty cool because it's got a pop ballad, some happier songs, and seems to mix jazz and even a bit of hip-hop/R&B. It's a beautiful mixture of genres and styles, and it's definitely worth listening to a few times in a row to really understand the lyrics.
1 He's Super Talented
You can't honestly listen to a single minute of these songs and not agree that this guy is crazy talented. He has a real way with words that amazes you, he can definitely sing, and he just seems to know what he's doing. The latest album makes an awesome daily soundtrack whether you're commuting to work and need some inspiration or want some background noise at the office while you're trying to be productive. So go ahead and buy it - you won't be sorry.
