14 Celeb Marriages Destroyed By Fame
Hollywood has a cruel way of destroying romance just as quickly as it can be created. While many married celebrities still (appear to) have thriving relationships while they're in the spotlight, there are too many tragic celebrity divorces to count.
But are fame, fortune and nannies always the reasons for divorce? Most divorces seem to take place after one partner's stardome skyrockets, or when both couples are doing so well in their careers that the time apart cannot withstand the responsibilities of a marriage. Increased success in Hollywood can also present new challenges and pressures that are enough to test the strength of any marriage. And that's not even considering the fact that many marriages in Hollywood also take on their own kind of fame, which offers no shortage of useless drama.
14 Caitlyn Jenner And Kris Jenner
Caitlyn Jenner (formerly Bruce Jenner) and Kris Jenner were at one time, one of the most famous Hollywood reality TV couples. As the stars of Keeping Up With The Kardashians, the former Olympic athlete and reality TV star's marriage (because honestly, what is Kris Jenner even famous for?) couldn't take the pressure of their ever-changing lives, as seen on TV.
The couple's marriage ended and Bruce Jenner went on to transition. As the first male Olympic athlete to become transgender, Bruce is now creating his own inspirational reality Hollywood story as Caitlyn Jenner. It's not yet confirmed whether or not Bruce's desire to become a woman is what prompted the marriage to end.
13 Demi Moore And Bruce Willis
It was sad to see the 13 year marriage of Demi Moore and Bruce Willis come to an end in the year 2000. In fact, Stylist magazine even named it one of the most heartbreaking divorces. While they were known as a Hollywood “power couple” and were both extremely successful in their acting careers, they also endured problems in their marriage that no couple is exempt from. They claim the reason for their divorce was that they were simply spending too much time apart.
Demi Moore and Bruce Willis seemed to have an amicable divorce, though. They still remain friends today and vacation together with their 3 children, Rumer, Scout and Tallulah.
12 Jennifer Aniston And Brad Pitt
In terms of #relationshipgoals, Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt were it. As two of Hollywood's most successful actors, the couple who married in a fairy tale wedding in Malibu seemed to have it all. But after seven years of marriage, the couple announced their split. It was speculated that the reason for the divorce was due to an affair Brad Pitt was having with Angelina Jolie on the set of Mr. and Mrs. Smith- although all claims were denied by both parties.
Jennifer's career also picked up quickly during their marriage, and her rise to even greater stardom could've contributed turbulence to their relationship too. Nonetheless, their divorce seemed to work out for the best, as they both continued on to meet new loves. Today, Brad Pitt is married to Angelina Jolie and Jennifer Aniston recently wed actor Justin Theroux.
11 Kim Kardashian And Kris Humphries
It almost seemed like Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries became famous just for their marriage. Which is probably true, since Kim Kardashian is only one of the biggest names in reality TV.
Kim K and Kris Humphries vows had a quick expiration date when Kim filed for divorce only 72 days after their Hollywood marriage. Their $10 million fairy tale wedding even had its own one hour segment on E! True Hollywood Story. The reason for the couple's split has never been confirmed, but Kim has opened up in interviews about her paranoia after the couple's divorce, claiming she thought the entire Kardashian's family careers were going to be over once the divorce was finalized. But that wasn't likely.
Now married to Kanye West, Kim Kardashian and the rest of the Kardashian entourage is still constantly in the spotlight. Although Kim's claim to fame still seems to be posting nude selfies on Instagram and breaking the internet.
10 Amy And Matt Roloff
Amy and Matt Roloff are the adorable couple who were married long before they ever became famous. As the reality TV stars of TLC's “Little People, Big World” the couple's 28 year marriage didn't withstand their stardom. This was also the end of their reality TV career. Both parties kept a strong front when it came to speaking with the media, saying they're both proud of what they have accomplished together and will continue to prioritize their family.
Amy and Matt Roloff have four children together, who were all part of the 9-season reality TV series that showcased their day-to-day lives as little people.
9 Maria Shriver And Arnold Schwarzenegger
Maria Shriver and Arnold Schwarzenegger announced their split only a few short years ago (after 25 years of marriage), when Maria filed for divorce after she learned about Arnold's alleged affair. However, the American journalist and actor turned politician have shown us there's still hope in Hollywood, even after an affair and divorce. Although their marriage didn't withstand the wrath of Hollywood, the former couple still attend family gatherings and celebrations as friends.
It's also been speculated that the divorce papers were never signed by Arnold, so could there be hope for reconciliation? You never know…
8 Taylor Armstrong And Russell Armstrong
The divorce of Taylor Armstrong, TV personality and Russell Armstrong was particularly devastating, and unfortunately had an even worse ending than we expected.
Taylor and Russell's marriage was constantly followed around on camera on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. While it was no secret that their relationship was on the rocks, the pressure of keeping up appearances financially, the fame from reality TV and accusations of physical abuse to Taylor was what ended their marriage. Sadly, there was no hope of reconciliation or friendship between Taylor and Russell when he ended his life only a few months after Taylor had filed for divorce.
7 Eva Longoria And Tony Parker
Eva Longoria and Tony Parker seemed like a match made in Hollywood heaven. But their marriage took a quick nose dive 3 years after they said their vows, when Tony allegedly cheated on Eva.
The Desperate Housewives star and professional basketball player had an amicable split, despite the Hollywood drama that surrounded the split when it was confirmed that Tony Parker had sent explicit photos to another woman while still married to Eva. In an interview following the divorce, Eva's “no bad vibes” attitude towards Tony was obvious when she said “I do believe in forgiving and forgetting. There was a reason we were together. I just want to hold on the good times.”
6 Demi Moore And Ashton Kutcher
Demi Moore's third divorce hit Hollywood hard. When the actress married the (much younger) actor in 2005, their chemistry whenever they appeared in the media made it seem like a match made in heaven. We really thought this was it for Demi. But the marriage ended in 2011, 6 years after the couple said their vows.
The reason for the split was said to be because Ashton cheated on Demi on their 6th anniversary. The rumors were indirectly confirmed by Demi when she announced the split to the media, and stated that as a mother and a wife, there were certain values of hers that could never be compromised.
5 Katie Holmes And Tom Cruise
Unfortunately, most of Hollywood saw the marriage of Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise as doomed before it even began. Previously married to Nicole Kidman, Tom Cruise started displaying erratic behavior on national television to express his love for Katie Holmes, such as jumping up and down on Oprah's couch when asked about his relationship with Katie. His increasing beliefs in practicing Scientology were also thought to be a concern by many close friends and family. It is said that the reason for the couple's split was Katie's concern about Tom influencing Suri with his beliefs in Scientology.
4 Jessica Simpson And Nick Lachey
Songbirds Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey pioneered couple-themed reality TV shows. Their TV show, Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica, followed the couple around for two seasons. While the sweet, loving moments were plentiful, their relationship ended in a divorce four years after becoming newlyweds. When asked about the reason for their divorce, the couple admitted that spending too much time apart, and their individual goals and priorities changing was the reason for their split.
After their divorce, Jessica went on to trade her singing career for an acting career, while Nick Lachey continued to work on his music career.
3 Courteney Cox And David Arquette
Courteney Cox and David Arquette met on the set of Scream, as both of their acting careers were beginning to flourish. The former Friends Star and former professional wrestler turned actor, producer and director were married for 14 years before they divorced.
The reason for their divorce was said to be that both parties' needs changed in what they wanted from a relationship. The couple both agrees they gave their Hollywood marriage their best shot before filing for divorce. Cox and Arquette say they still remain best friends today, especially for the well-being of their daughter, Coco Arquette.
2 Reese Witherspoon And Ryan Phillipe
When Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe got married in 1999, it seemed like their relationship was so grounded, it could stand up to anything- even Hollywood. But the actress and actor's divorce was announced in 2006 after 7 years of marriage.
There was no official reason announced for their separation, but Reese has been said to discuss her young age as a factor in their divorce, and not fully understanding what type of commitment she wanted at the time of her marriage. The couple have two children who they continue to care for together, Deacon and Ava.
1 Jennifer Lopez And Marc Anthony
After a few failed Hollywood marriages, Jennifer Lopez appeared to have finally met her match when she married singer, Marc Anthony. The couple produced music together and even launched their own fashion lines during their marriage, which made them seem like the ultimate power couple when it came to Hollywood success, fame and fortune.
Their divorce came as a surprise to all of us when it was was announced only 7 years after they exchanged vows. The couple simply announced that the reason for the divorce was that it “didn't work out”. The singers and business partners are said to have remained friends, and have twins together, Max and Emme.
