14 Celebs Who Can Convince You To Buy Anything
Recently, a market research firm by the name of The NPD Group did a study seeing which celebrities were the most marketable - meaning, which celebrities' fans were willing to buy pretty much anything as long as their favourite celeb endorsed it. Tons of brands work with A-list celebrities to bring some star power to their product or company, but star power alone doesn't necessarily sell - you need someone whose fans are devoted. The NPD Group's survey results revealed that Rihanna was apparently the most marketable celebrity at the time, meaning brands should be rushing to sign her to any kind of endorsement deal.
However, RiRi isn't the only celebrity that has some power behind her name. There are many celebs who ink deals with everything from clothing companies to restaurants. After all, even though A-Listers make mega-bucks in their acting roles, why not fund a few extra vacations with a simple 30-second commercial or print advertisement?
We look to many celebrities for different things. Some are intelligent and incredibly skilled at what they do, and inspire us to improve and strive for greatness. Some are always super chic and inspire us to finally organize and curate our overstuffed closets. And some, for whatever reason, could easily sell us things that we never needed, simply because they're so charming and fabulous that we'd buy anything they suggested.
Here are 14 celebrities that can convince you to buy pretty much anything.
14 Beyoncé
L'Oreal, H&M, Pepsi… since breaking out from girl group Destiny's Child as a solo artist, Beyoncé has worked with several big names in the retail industry. However, the moments that truly proved Beyoncé could sell anything came recently. For example, in her song “Formation,” she mentions the cheesy, chain restaurant Red Lobster… and suddenly, everyone wanted to treat their man to some lobster and Bey biscuits. She released a video about her new athleisure clothing line, and suddenly, everyone was racing to the gym so they'd have an excuse to rock some Beyoncé approved gear. We would literally buy anything from Queen B. Anything.
13 Taylor Swift
Back when she was a young country starlet, Swift worked with brands like L.E.I. jeans and CoverGirl. As she transitioned to a career in pop and became one of the biggest pop stars of the current generation, she rocked bangs and a red lip for Keds and Diet Coke. Swift has undergone a lot of change since she stepped onto the scene as a teenager, going from country to pop, wild curls to a sleek bob, but through it all, she has remained wildly popular with a diverse fan group - and, by extension, wildly marketable. With the kind of star power that Tay has, she could lend her name to pretty much anything and it'd sell out immediately.
12 Jennifer Lopez
Okay, Jennifer Lopez has been in the entertainment industry for quite awhile, first as a dancer, then a singer, actress, television personality, etc., etc. There's pretty much nothing that this powerhouse woman can't do. However, let's be honest - the real reason Jennifer Lopez could sell us anything is because she is basically aging backwards. The woman is 46 years old and looks better than most 20-somethings. If she said her glow came from kale smoothies, we'd all attempt to choke down kale smoothies. If she credited her stairmaster with toning that booty, we'd all be clocking in endless workouts on the stairmaster. She may still be Jenny from the block, but she could sell us anything.
11 Khloe Kardashian
When it comes to the Kardashians, they can seem kind of interchangeable - they're so much a part of one another's brand that usually, if someone is looking for a Kardashian endorsement, they'll try to get a few of the sisters at once. However, the public seems to have a special fondness for Khloe (we'll even pretend that whole Kocktails with Khloe disaster never happened). Why? Well, while many of the other girls seem high maintenance and high drama, Khloe has always been a lot more chill. She knows how to laugh at herself, she knows how to laugh at her sisters, and she basically just has a good time. It also doesn't hurt that she kicked some major butt and shaped her physique recently - we'd buy any workout products from this Kardashian girl.
10 Oprah
When Oprah tweeted about how amazing Weight Watchers was because it allowed her to indulge in bread, Weight Watchers stock skyrocketed. It's called the Oprah effect. When she recommended a book for her book club, shelves across the world sold out, regardless of what the book was about. When she got behind Weight Watchers, it became the hot new diet. When she recommends products as her “favourite things,” they become everyone else's favourite things as well. Oprah may not be in everyone's living rooms every single afternoon anymore, but the public is still very, very interested in her suggestions and recommendations.
9 Rihanna
Back when she was still making a name for herself in the music industry, Rihanna snagged a few big endorsement deals, including one with CoverGirl. She's since put her star power behind Puma, Samsung, and many more big name companies - and it seems to be working. Part of the reason the public loves Rihanna is because she's unapologetically herself. She's constantly reinventing her sound, she records the kind of music she wants to hear, and she's absolutely fearless when it comes to her style. That's the kind of risk-taker that a lot of consumers wish they were, so it makes sense that they'd want to follow in RiRi's footsteps.
8 Sofia Vergara
If you watch a lot of television, it can be easy to feel like Sofia Vergara is in every single commercial. From her hilarious CoverGirl advertisements with Ellen DeGeners, to the Head & Shoulders commercials she does with her son, to the commercials where she's sipping an indulgent coffee with a handsome co-star for Ninja Coffee, Vergara is inking endorsement deal after endorsement deal. Why? Well, first of all, she's absolutely gorgeous - that doesn't hurt. However, unlike many other gorgeous actresses, she also has a big personality that draws fans in. Her English still isn't perfect - and she embraces that and makes fun of it. She knows what she's got to offer, and she rocks it.
7 Jennifer Lawrence
Since breaking onto the scene with her role in The Hunger Games film franchise and following it with a string of critically acclaimed hits, Jennifer Lawrence has been one busy girl. Apart from a Dior campaign back in 2013, she hasn't made the time to work with many companies for endorsements - but she's full of personality and very vocal about what she loves. She's not a club-hopping party girl who lives off salad and Starbucks. She likes French fries and pizza, she likes sweatpants and Netflix marathons. Lawrence is basically the perfect spokesperson for anything fun and casual - whenever she wants to take a bit of a break from acting, her manager's phone probably won't stop ringing with endorsement offers.
6 Victoria Beckham
There's no question that the Spice Girls were one of the biggest girl groups on the planet back in the 1990s, and the nostalgia factor means tons of fans are still belting it out alongside the ladies whenever “Wannabe” comes on the radio. However, while many of the other Spice Girls took a step away from the spotlight, snagging occasional hosting gigs, Victoria Beckham's fame has only increased since she was Posh Spice. While her husband was the Beckham family's main breadwinner when he was a professional soccer player, Victoria's salary at the helm of her fashion empire now gives him a run for his money. She started small, with collaboration lines on jeans and casual wear, and has now built a high fashion, ultra chic label. There's just something about this woman, and we'd buy whatever she sold (if we could afford it, that is!).
5 Emma Watson
Many child stars go south the minute they finish the roles that made them famous, but Emma Watson isn't amongst that group. After the Harry Potter films wrapped, which took up a large part of Watson's life from her childhood years to her teenage years, she's been highly selective with what she engages in, snagging a few smaller film roles, slaying worldwide with her badass feminist speeches at events, and basically just being a huge role model for women and girls everywhere. Watson has only had a few endorsement deals over the years with luxury brands Burberry and Lancome, but we have a feeling they're just the tip of the iceberg for her. Watson has established herself as not only a talented actress, but a skilled speakers and intelligent woman engaged with the issues of the world. She could sell a huge variety of things and consumers worldwide would rush out to spend their hard earned dollars.
4 Ellen DeGeneres
Let's be honest - it is very, very hard to succeed at a talk show. You need to be skilled at creating a rapport with your guests, but you also need to be able to carry certain segments on your own. While many talk shows get cancelled after only a season or two, Ellen's The Ellen DeGeneres Show has been on the air since 2003 - that's right, over a decade. The reason for the show's success? Ellen herself. She's hilarious, she's engaging, she has heart and crazy dance moves and a lot of presence. It only makes sense that companies like CoverGirl and Vitamin Water would want her endorsement - quite frankly, we're surprised she hasn't racked up even more endorsement deals over the years.
3 Dwayne Johnson
Dwayne Johnson has had an unlikely rise to fame - he started out as an athlete and professional wrestler, and quickly became one of the biggest stars in the WWE as The Rock. Then, he tried his hand at acting - turns out he was pretty good at that too. He remains immensely popular, and it's not because he's won a slew of awards for his acting. It's solely because he's incredibly charming and seems like a chill, down to earth guy. Looking at his physique, consumers would obviously buy any piece of work out equipment, food item, or diet plan that he advocated, but he could sell basically anything he wanted to with a personality like his. I mean, that's a million dollar smile.
2 Kevin Hart
Most comedians, even if they're wildly successful in the comedy world, don't really cross into the mainstream - that is, unless they manage to snag a late night show or something like that. However, Kevin Hart seamlessly transitioned from comedy into comedic films - and now, he's continuing to build his empire in the fitness world. Hart, who loves working out and staying healthy, recently partnered with Nike to create a special edition shoe and start some healthy living initiatives. We have no doubt that fans will be rushing out to buy whatever he's selling - not only is he hilarious, he has a killer work ethic that means you just want to be a part of whatever project he has going on.
1 Dr. Dre
When it comes to talking about what Dr. Dre could convince you to buy, there's really only three words we need to say - Beats. By. Dre. Dr. Dre got his start in the rap game as a member of N.W.A., and has since gone on to get involved in various aspects of the entertainment industry. However, his crowning glory - and one of his biggest money makers - is his headphone empire. Sure, Dre has gotten several endorsements over the years, but they're nothing compared to Beats. Dre released the first Beats By Dr. Dre in 2008, and since then, they've become the headphones to have. Though there's no shortage of headphones available for 20 to 30 dollars, people are willing to shell out much more for Beats - thanks to the brand that Dre has built.
