15 Celebs You Didn't Know Were Frenemies
In a perfect world, celebrities who party together and co-stars who star on the same television shows and movies are also best friends in real life. However, our world, more specially the Hollywood world, is far from perfect.
There's a constant flow of drama, feuds, break-ups, and make-ups. When it comes to celebrity gossip, everyone is curious to see who's friends with who, or who is feuding with who. Some stars go their separate ways due to a breakup, or a difference in views. Other times, there's no huge fall out, but there is constant social media jabbing and shade-throwing.
While there are frenemies that are well-known to the public and social media, such as Drake and Meek Mill, and Heidi Montag and Lauren Conrad; there are several low-key frenemies that you probably didn't know about. After all, when it comes to Hollywood, no one's dirty laundry is safe from being aired out.
15 Jennette McCurdy and Ariana Grande
While the co-stars were best friends since 2009, both on set the Nickelodeon show Sam & Cat, and in real life. However, the show allegedly had stopped airing due to the girls not getting along and having a fall out. The two were very close in 2013 following the death of Jennette's mother, and Ariana Grande publicly displayed her support for her best friend during the tough time. In an interview with E!, Jennette had said that her and Ariana had butted heads at times, but in a sisterly way, and it was unfortunate that things got misconstrued. In April 2014, things went sour and Grande unfollowed McCurdy on social media. When Sam & Cat was cancelled, Grande tweeted a thank you from the cast and crew, except McCurdy was not named in the thank you. Since then, the two had not been seen or photographed together since.
14 Miley Cyrus and Demi Lovato
Even though their fallout happened in 2014, these ex-best friends have not been able to rekindled their relationship. However, they are on civil terms as they were seen having at an "awkward" encounter earlier this year at the Women's March in LA, and exchanged some conversation. They also remain not following each other on social media. Earlier in 2012, Lovato had also said that her and Miley had often gotten into brutal fights, where they say they are no longer friends. Then, 2 days later, they make up and tell each other they love one another. She said this is because of their butting heads and strong personalities. According to several interviews with Lovato, she had said that the two had just grown apart, but she wishes [Cyrus] the best.
13 Blake Lively and Leighton Meester
The infamous Gossip Girl duo, Serena & Blair, had a rocky relationship on screen. While it seemed like they had a perfect relationship off screen, it was actually just as rocky as on the show. It kind of breaks our heart to think that two of our favorite TV characters (although never the perfect example of BFFS) are actually frenemies when it comes to real life. A source told Perez Hilton that the last two seasons of the show were very rocky for the girls, and after the show wrapped up they went their separate ways. A source also revealed that Lively didn't even reach out to Meester when she announced her engagement with Adam Brody. Guess B and S aren't as close as we thought they were.
12 Amber Rose and Julianne Hough
On the third week of Dancing with the Stars in 2016, Amber Rose and Julianne Hough had a brush when DWTS judge, Hough, said she was uncomfortable with Amber Rose's seductive and revealing dancing. Rose accused Hough of body shaming her, and then later made a public apology to Hough. While they made up after the apology and were seen chatting behind the scenes, the two don't seem like they are going to be best friends anytime soon. It also kind of seems like an odd pairing if these two ever became friends anyway, but then again, you should never judge a book by its cover! Maybe in another life these two would make the best of friends, but for now it's best they stay civil and apart.
11 Demi Lovato and Selena Gomez
Despite meeting on Barney & Friends, moving on with the Disney channel, and now both successful and famous, it's a shame that these two have had a constantly rocky friendship. The friends had been inseparable in their younger years, and they used to post videos together on YouTube. However, a year after they released their first duet "one and the same," Selena was spotted with Taylor Swift and not Demi Lovato. There's a video of a paparazzi asking Demi Lovato where Selena was, and she responded with 'Ask Taylor', implying that she perhaps no longer was friends with Selena. In 2010, Demi had checked into rehab and was later reunited with Selena at the 2011 Teen Choice Awards, displaying their rekindled friendship. In 2013, Demi had thanked Selena publicly for being there during her 'darkest days'. In the summer of 2014, they had both unfollowed each other on social media, and then in 2015 they were publicly best friends again. In an interview, Selena told E! That her and Demi are family. While the two have had a rocky friendship, as of right now they are friends. However, who knows, maybe that could change.
10 Katy Perry and Taylor Swift
These two equally famous singers have allegedly had a long feud over a long period of time. In 2008, Swift and Perry were allegedly very close, as they took photos together alongside Miley Cyrus at the MTV music awards. They were also photographed together having fun at the 2009 MTV awards, and Taylor Swift even tweeted that she loves Katy Perry and Katy perry tweeted back suggesting that they write a song together. Taylor was also spotted and tweeted about Katy Perry's birthday bash. Later, in 2010, Katy Perry sang at Taylor Swift's concert where they performed "Hot n Cold" together. Fast forward to September 2014, Swift's new album featured a song called “Bad Blood” (angry tune) and told Rolling Stones that it was about her friendship with Katy Perry.
She told People in an interview: "For years, I was never sure if we were friends or not,” she said. “She would come up to me at awards shows and say something and walk away, and I would think, 'Are we friends, or did she just give me the harshest insult of my life?'” Then last year, the other star crossed a line. “She did something so horrible,” Swift says. “I was like, 'Oh, we're just straight-up enemies.' And it wasn't even about a guy! It had to do with business. She basically tried to sabotage an entire arena tour. She tried to hire a bunch of people out from under me. And I'm surprisingly non-confrontational - you would not believe how much I hate conflict. So now I have to avoid her. It's awkward, and I don't like it.”
May 2017 Katy Perry released "Swish Swish", which is a song featuring Nicki Minaj (who is team Perry), and she implied that it was about Taylor Swift in an episode of The Late Late Show with James Corden, where she told Corden: "There's a situation. Honestly, it's really like she started it, and it's time for her to finish it,” she said, explaining, “It's about backing dancers, there were three backing dancers. I tried to talk to her about it and she wouldn't speak to me.”
Swift has not responded to what Katy Perry said on the show, but we can wait and see what's going to happen next.
9 Miranda Lambert and Gwen Stefani
Country music's power couple Blake Shelton and Miranda split two years ago after being together for 10 years and married for 4, and rumors were that Shelton had left Lambert for Gwen Stefani, his co-host on The Voice. While Lambert and Miranda were never the best of friends, they have been constantly throwing shade at each other recently. Rumors that Gwen Stefani wants Miranda Lambert to get over the divorce, and that she needs to focus on her own relationship without worrying about her ex, Blake. According to a source, Gwen Stefani is upset with Miranda Lambert's new album release that included several songs about heartbreak over her husband. Gwen Stefani also says she is completely secure in her relationship, despite her being angry at Lambert for constantly talking about her relationship with Shelton. We'll keep watching to see what Miranda has to say about Stefani's comments about being angry, but they're definitely not going to be friends anytime soon.
8 Bella Hadid and Selena Gomez
While it is unclear if the two were "besties" prior to Selena dating The Weeknd, they did run in the same friend group. Gigi, Bella's sister, is very close friends with Taylor Swift, who is best friends with Selena Gomez. Hadid and The Weeknd split before this year's Victoria's Secret Fashion Show, after being together for 18 months. Shortly after, The Weeknd was seen spotted with Selena Gomez in Santa Monica. Assuming Bella Hadid was bitter about the breakup, Hadid unfollowed Selena Gomez after photos surfaced. Bella Hadid had told Life and Style Mag that she was hurt seeing Selena and The Weeknd's PDA at the 2017 Met Gala.
A source told Life and Style: "Selena and Abel [The Weeknd] really looked like a stunning couple at the ball and it hurt Bella's heart to see her ex, in person, look so happy with his gorgeous new girlfriend," the source explained. "Bella wants to move on from Abel and wishes the best for him, but it was hard for her to see all of the heavy PDA right in front of her face at the Met Ball."
While it is unclear that the two were super close or not prior to all of this, as of right now they aren't even on following terms. Hadid and Gomez will most likely keep their distance because of The Weeknd.
7 Kim Kardashian and Paris Hilton
Even though this is technically old news, this is still one for the books. While Paris Hilton has been out of the limelight for several years, and Kim Kardashian has been front and centre of all things Hollywood, their feud is still one that many people don't know what happened.
Inseparable since pre-school, it's a shame that they are no longer friends. Back in 2003, shortly before The Simple Life premiered, a tape from 2001 of Hilton was released. The show became an instant hit. A couple of years later, the same type of tape of Kim Kardashian and her ex-boyfriend was also released, making Kim Kardashian famous and in the same year Keeping Up with the Kardashians had it's debut. The rumors about Paris Hilton and Kim Kardashian publicly feuding were supposedly because Paris Hilton was jealous of Kim. While recently there hasn't been any new drama between the two, Paris Hilton congratulated Kim and Kanye when they announced they were having a baby. Still, there has been no update that the two have dissolved the drama and have become friends again, and the two ex friends are not following each other on social media either.
6 Camilla Belle and Taylor Swift
Even though it happened several years ago, Camilla Belle has not forgotten that Taylor Swift released a song, "Better than revenge", about Camilla Belle after Jonas and Swift had broken up in a 30 second phone-call. Belle has been seen on Twitter commenting on Swift's rivalries with comments like "no need for revenge," referring to Swift's song about Belle. In Swift's song she says:
'She's not a saint/ And she's not what you think/ She's an actress/ She's better known/ For the things that she does/ On the mattress.' (about Belle).
Even though Camilla Belle and Joe Jonas are no longer together, she is still clearly holding grudges against Taylor Swift, by also commenting on a tweet that Katy Perry had wrote about Taylor Swift (clearly making it public that Belle is #TeamPerry in the Swift vs. Perry Feud).
5 Chloe Moretz and The Kardashians
Everyone knows that when you mess with one Kardashian, you mess with them all. The Kardashian clan is infamous for sticking together and backing each other up, especially when it comes to s**** hitting the fan. Chloe Moretz and Khloe Kardashian have an ongoing feud after Chloe tweeted negativity at Kim Kardashian's nude selfie earlier last year. Sticking up for her sister, Khloe posted an X-rated photo of Moretz's naked bum (which ended up not even being Chloe), and the recent NYLON cover that shows Chloe Moretz naked with a coat. Since then, Chloe has made some sly tweets about the Kardashians and they have been in this ongoing Twitter feud. Will they ever bury the hatchet? We really don't think so, and anyway, who cares right?
4 Drake and Diddy
According to OK! Magazine, the two rappers were good friends and even celebrated ringing in 2014 together. However, in 2015 they got into a physical fight that sent Drake to the hospital after arguing about rights to a song.
According to complex, they have been throwing constant shade until 2017. In 2016, Drake releases “4 P.M in Calabasas”, which allegedly disses P. Diddy., and now they have allegedly buried the hatchet.
According to TMZ: "The pair officially buried the hatchet with the personal phone call, and have been chill ever since. Drake even personally hooked Puff Daddy up with the "Summer Sixteen" tour tickets. We can all officially put the drama behind us. Everything is fine."
3 The Weeknd and Justin Bieber
While it is unclear if the two were buds prior to Selena and The Weeknd dating, there have been several rumors that they are NOT going to be friends anytime soon. The Canadian celebrities have an ongoing feud, and it is unclear on where they currently stand. According to Toronto Life, in January 2017 Bieber was spotted leaving a place in Hollywood, and there was a video where a persistent paparazzi asks "Can you listen to a Weeknd song?" and Bieber said "Hell no, that's whack". According to US Magazine, there were rumors this February that The Weeknd's new song "Some Way" with Nav, is about him dissing Selena and Bieber's bedroom life. In the song, The Weeknd brags about stealing a girl away from her boyfriend and treating her passionately. "I think your girl, think your girl fell in love with me / She say my f--k and my tongue game a remedy," he sings.
As of right now, there's no telling what will happen next between the two, but neither of them follow each other on Instagram or social media.
2 Alexa Nikolas and Jamie Lynn Spears
We all remember the hit show Zoey 101, and we also remember that it ended due to Jamie Lynn Spears getting pregnant and having to stop the show. While the show has been over for a hot minute, in 2015 rumors surfaced that Alexa Nikolas was throwing shade at her ex0 co-star, Jamie Lynn Spears. According to J-14, Alexa Nikolas had quit the show after 2 seasons due to her and Spears not getting along. In 2007 there was a video that surfaced from TMZ of Alexa Nikolas where she told the paparazzi that “I hope she makes more responsible decisions in her future, because that's intense and that's a child. I really hope she makes better decisions ” when he asked what he thought of Jamie being pregnant. She also added that she left the show due to some 'uncomfortable working environment' and rumors are because of the two not getting along. She also added that her and Jamie do not speak anymore. Nothing suggests that the two rekindled their relationship after the falling out.
1 Victoria Justice and Ariana Grande
In Nickelodeon's former hit show Victorious, Victoria Justice and Ariana Grande played characters who were also best friends. However, rumors had surfaced in the past years that Ariana Grande felt bullied by a co-star on the show, and many Victorious fans believe it was Victoria Justice. The Meredith Viera Show in 2015 addressed the feud between the ex-co-stars, Justice set the record straight. She had admitted to having differences with Ariana Grande, but said that she loves and respects everyone on the Victorious cast. While it is unclear whether the two are truly feuding or not, memes have been taking over the internet over the past year about the alleged feud. Also the show is now on Netflix so you can check it out for yourself and see if you can spot the tension!
