It can be hard to every truly discern who a famous person is behind the scenes. A lot of them have a public and private persona. Most of them would never want you to think of them as anything but super sweet and nice, after all they are selling themselves to you. Then, there are the celebs who just can't help themselves and we get a glimpse of who they really are. Ariana Grande is one such celeb, she has proven time and again that she doesn't only have a big voice but a big personality that demands a lot. The pint-sized singing powerhouse has made it clear that she will let you know exactly how she feels about something. So much work goes into cultivating a positive public image and Ariana has proven a couple times she is anything but super sweet and nice. We have seen her be rude on air multiple times, but it's the not so public behaviour where she is even shadier. From wishing death upon fans, making photographs lives difficult, and finally to insulting all of America, Ariana has shown that she has a lot of salty shade to throw. It also seems like being compared to Mariah Carey so early on in her career has made her believe that she can be a massively demanding diva even though her career hasn't even been half as long as Mariah's. Someone needs to get this girl a piece of humble pie and teach her that you get more flies with honey.
15 Rude to loyal fans
Being rude to fans is a big faux pas that Ariana apparently has no issue committing. With the advent of social media and the role it plays in spreading information celebrities are getting called out more then ever before and thats what Dan O'Connor did to Ariana after an unfortunate encounter that left his daughters devastated. O'Connor had gotten to go back stage with his daughters to meet Ariana after one of them won a contest, and wrote a blog post afterwards exposing her rude behavior. He wrote 'She never bothered to even ask anyone their name. She didn't inquire as to who the contest winners were, as opposed to their guests, or what they created to win the right to meet her.' He claims that Ariana also made them delete any pictures they took together and even made her security make sure all photos were deleted. Nothing like using your security to bully young fans and crush their spirits.
14 Heartbroken Fan
After O'Connor's post went viral a fan reached out to Ariana over DM on Twitter and asked her about it. Ariana tried to clear her name by saying that the fan had shown her a picture of her late grandfather and she had gotten too upset. O'Connor clapped back that Ariana was rude before being given the picture of her grandfather. This all garnered a lot of news attention and it was around Ariana's album release date. Someone from her label went so far as to contact O'Connor and asked her amend his post to include that she was acting that way because she was so upset over her grandfather and was still in mourning. Apparently the bad publicity surrounding the situation was making her 'uncomfortable.' O'Connor asked that she at least tweet or call his daughters just for a quick second to make it up to them, but apparently she was 'too busy.' Well, then he was too busy to amend his post and we think that's fair.
13 Wishing death on her fans
Ariana has a lot of rumors following her about being horrible when it comes to her fans, and this is one of the worst ones. She was meeting with some fans outside of a radio station in New York, and that part for all intents and purposes went well! She did the nice happy celebrity thing to their faces. She was an actress after all so she can definitely turn it on when she has too! It's what she said when she thought she was out of earshot about her fans that shows her true feelings. It's rumored though that when she got away from the crowd she was heard saying she wished they would all die! Whoa girl, talk about bite the hand that feeds you! No fans means no Ariana Grande which at this point we are kind of okay with.
12 Overpriced meet and greets
The way Ariana has her meet and greets set up for her biggest fans is another display of gratitude towards them for their support of her career. Ariana charges 450 dollars for a meet and greet with her. That's 450 dollars just to be in her presence, and it's far from an intimate fan experience. For that amount of money you are lucky enough to get to meet her in a group of 4 to 6 other people and maybe she will even make you cry! To ask your fans to pay so much to meet you and then not even give them a one on one experience is a slap in the face. This is in sharp contrast to other performers like Rihanna and One Direction who actually allow their fans to have one on one meet and greets with them. And we're just going to say it, Rihanna > Ariana.
11 Someone carries her water around for her
Following the BBC Radio 1 Awards back in 2014, a story came out about Ari's diva behavior. A source claimed that Ariana had an assistant whose job it was to follow her around whilst holding water with a straw for her. When Ari would wanted to drink some water she would simply 'scream' for water and her assistant would rush the water over to her. The source also claims that at one point the water had gotten a bit too warm from the diva's tastebuds and after taking a sip of the water she actually spat it out. Pretty sure most other people grow out of that after the age of like 3, even the big superstars. But this far into the list it is easy to see that Ariana thinks very highly of herself and expects to be treated as such.
10 Walked out of a photoshoot
She is not only rude to fans and the people that work for her though, also the people she works with like photographers. Australian photographer Chris Pavlich accused her of being extremely difficult to work with on set to the point where they did not even finish of the photoshoot. The entire time she not only demanded to only have her photo taken from her left side (which we know she has a penchant for) but to also look at and review every photo taken. On top of that she also left half way through because she didn't like the way her top looked. Ugh. She did try and make an excuse for this situation but the reality is she has a track record of being rude, so we are going to side with Mr. Pavlich on this one.
9 Diva demands
To add more fuel to the Ariana is a huge diva fire, a source opened up to PageSix about what it's like having to work with her when she comes into town for concerts. High demands, rude behavior, and treating everyone like they are below her seems to be par for the course when it comes to Ariana and how she treats the people around her. The source told PageSix, 'It's like the President is in town. Everyone is kind of stressed and at the same time, their kind of making fun of her because its much ado about nothing really.' They also added that 'she kind of speaks down to everyone around her.' At this rate it seems like Ariana's team is going to have to be paying extra to get people to be willing to work with and for her.
8 Don't flash your camera in her face
The red carpet can be overwhelming. You have a ton of cameras in your face and everyone shouting for your attention. You want to look you're best because you know that this picture is going to be plastered everywhere so the pressure is definitely on. The fact of the matter is that this is a fundamental part of the job for celebrities and most are professionals when it comes to it. Well one time it got to be too much for Ariana as she walked the red carpet at the 2013 Kids Choice Awards and yelled at the photographers to shut up and basically leave her alone. Proving she has been sassy and kind of rude for years! We understand that she got overwhelmed with all the shouting and cameras but does she really have to be mean about it? Other celebrities handle the red carpet without being rude and the photographers were literally just doing their job and its kind of the reason that celebrities walk the red carpet. Just saying Ariana.
7 Red carpet diva strikes again
The red carpet seems to bring out the diva in Ariana. Much like almost everything else does. Another incident occurred when she was on the carpet for the Style Awards show. This time though she seemed to get the memo that she has to pose for the photographers on the red carpet and she sure took it seriously. Ariana was posing to get her picture taken and making herself look as cute as possible. Then she noticed that the plebian was in her shot and she basically shooed the lady out of her frame. That doesn't sound like Ariana, wanting the attention and spotlight only on her self. Oh wait it totally does. If she keeps going this way she will end up having to beg people to take a photo with her.
6 Ignores adoring fans
One of her shadiest and truly ugly moments was directed towards her own fans. You are probably think what could be worse then wishing death on fans? Well being rude right to their face instead of behind their back takes the cake. Her fans had stood outside of her hotel waiting for her for hours. When she finally walked out to get to her car she was flanked with security and would not even look at the fans. She went so far as to cover her face with her hands. When she got in the car her fans are seen outside her car begging for even just one picture, but it was not going to be their day. The video available shows the exact moment one fans soul broke when she realized Ariana was going to stay in her car and not give her the time of day. Someone needs to remind her that without her fans she would not have her career.
5 Ariana's team basically bullies Giuliana Rancic
E! News correspondent Giuliana Rancic was one of the apparently many people that have gotten a taste of Ari's shady diva side. And for Giuliana to call you out for being a diva after all her years in the industry interviewing celebrities, well that carries weight. After a red carpet interview with her at the American Music Awards, Rancic said her team was aggressive about where Rancic would stand so that Ari would be filmed from her left side. Ranic said 'It was like, you either get on the other side or we don't do an interview.' Rude, Ari is no Mariah Carey to be making those kind of demands from a seasoned industry vet like Rancic! And one has to start to wonder at this point what is so wrong with her ride side? What is the huge difference?
4 Ariana chooses what she will talk to you about and you better like it
On press tours, she has a list of banned topics. This includes her dating life, and we have all seen how she reacts when she is asked about that as well as her apparent nemesis, Mariah Carey. This is not that outrageous as lots of celebrities have things they do not want to be asked about when doing press. But Ariana almost comes off as a bully in interviews where she is asked questions she does not want to deal with. She will talk to the interviewer like they are stupid when again, they are just doing their job. She has even shut down Ryan Seacrest on air after he asked her about her dating life, to say it got awkward is an understatement. A celebrity is a lot like a politician and she needs to learn how to keep a smile on when doing press even when she doesn't like it.
3 Likes to be carried like a baby
It is not a big secret that Ariana likes to be carried and infant she herself has posted pictures of herself being carried off stage after her concerts and even said it was a post-show ritual. That we understand, she is dancing on stage in massive heels her feet must kill after! The one thing we will not dispute about her is her talent, which she has a lot of and she really is a great performer. Most people would do the exact same thing in her position and we're sure that a lot of performers do! She totally gets credit for rocking it on the stage. But, that doesn't explain why she insisted on being carried off the stage in between skits while hosting SNL. So it appears that it's more of a case that she can't be bothered to grace the ground with her feet when she doesn't have too. That just seems like too much, but at this point is anyone even surprised?
2 Don't throw your tokens of appreciation at her
In 2015 she was on a float as part of a Christmas Parade. She was ready to spread some Christmas cheer to the waiting crowds until one of her fans tried to do something nice for her. You would hope they would learn at this point! Stop setting yourselves up for disappointment Ariana Grande fans because in this situation she was basically the Grinch who broke their fans heart, again. The fan in question took the opportunity to throw a gift at her from their spot in the crowd, but Ariana was not too keen on it. She picked it up and glanced at it. It clearly did not live up to her standards because she simply tossed it back into the crowd. Ice cold. You certainly have to have a thick skin to be an Ari fan. Good thing homegirl is one of the best singers in the game right now because soon thats the only thing people will like her for.
1 That time she said she hates America
The infamous time she was caught shading America. This story became a huge scandal when it came out and showed that when Ariana thinks no one is looking, she is the nasty person that the rumors claim she is. While in a doughnut shop with her friends, she did and said a couple things that really rubbed a lot of people the wrong way, and rightfully so considering she would be nowhere without America. Not knowing that she was being filmed, Ariana was seen on camera licking doughnuts that were to be sold to other customers. She also made the charming statement of 'I hate Americans. I hate America.' This incident prompted one of the only times Ariana has publicly apologized for being rude and disrespectful. She tried to spin it by saying she was just frustrated with the dietary choices that Americans make and the fast food culture America has. Which to be honest still comes off as stuck up and kind of gross. People should be able to eat whatever they want without judgment.
