15 Of The Weirdest Celeb Couples To Cozy Up This Year

In Hollywood, many relationships look like a match made in PR heaven - some hookups just make sense. Then there are others that make us think: "How did these two even get together?" Sure there is plenty of celebrity odd couples who have stood the test of time when everyone doubted it would last - Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, Calista Flockhart and Harrison Ford, Mary-Kate Olsen and Olivier Sarkozy. But will these latest celebrity hookups that have only come to light this year also have the same success?

Many still believe "opposites attract" but with most recent research this theory has now been debunked. Professor J. Phillippe Rushton of The University of Western Ontario revealed in his study on happiness in relationships: "One of the most important principles to follow in choosing a partner revolves around a highly established reality: Stable and satisfying marriages usually involve two people who are very much alike."

So for these following couples we might not be hearing wedding bells just yet and the odds are against them - but for now it's still fun to watch love blossom between two completely opposite characters.

15 Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom

Katy Perry has had her fair share of bad boy lovers over the years. She dated Gym Class Heroes rocker Travie McCoy for two years until 2008 and she spoke openly about his drug related issues on her track Circle The Drain. Later after the split, she married comedian, Russell Brand (who admitted to many addictions) but the marriage didn't make it to a second anniversary. John Mayer, a renowned lady lover who has dated almost everyone from Jennifer Aniston to Taylor Swift, was next for Katy Perry but they finally called off their on-again-off-again relationship earlier this year.

Then everyone was treated to something out of the ordinary when her next boyfriend appeared to be British actor Orlando Bloom. He's charming, quiet and not one who likes to hog the spotlight. Although these two had never been seen together before, the love appeared to blossom out of nowhere. Then came a love triangle scandal when Bloom was spotted in the arms of Selena Gomez. Perhaps Katy has accidentally fallen into the arms of yet another bad boy without even realizing it?

14 Justin Bieber and Hailey Baldwin

Shortly after Justin Bieber and Hailey Baldwin celebrated New Year's Eve together, these two created quite an Instagram storm as they were posting daily romantic clinches together. Despite the couple kissing and hugging their way through the beginning of the year, they announced to Bieber's 72 million followers that they were "just good friends." Right…

According to Hailey herself, they both called off the faux-relationship as dating the world's most famous pop star wasn't as much fun as she expected. She told Marie Claire magazine, "I don't want attention out of dating somebody. Texts started coming through, crazy phone calls… it's hard to date somebody in this industry." The 19-year-old added: "You have to have really thick skin and be very strong. You have to focus on the person and nothing else." She also confirmed that they were both single and their short but sweet Instagram relationship had come to an end.

13 Scott Disick and Christine Burke

After Kourtney Kardashian and Scott Disick finally called it quits (for the 100th time) it did not take everyone's favourite international party boy long to find someone new. Scott was papped with 20-year-old Christine Burke from March to May this year and despite the 12-year age gap the pair seemed to be getting along fine. They holidayed together in Mexico, were seen out together in Los Angeles, and even enjoyed a meal together at celebrity favourite restaurant Nobu in Malibu. Their latest romantic break was attending Cannes this year.

However, what many Kardashian fans found was very strange about the two was just how much Christine looked like Kourtney's younger sister, Kendall Jenner. Christine and Kendall are exactly the same, they both work as international models, and they can both rock a bikini on Instagram - which was what initially set fans off to make the comparisons. The Mirror also reported that Kourtney was not impressed Scott hooked up with the high school graduate instead of concentrating on his sobriety but after all these years together she should know he can't shake off his bad boy behaviour.

12 Kendall Jenner and Harry Styles

Kendall Jenner and One Direction's Harry Styles have always been very close friends over the years and nobody thought it would ever become more than that. Well, that was until Harry's furious ex-girlfriend, air hostess Megan Smith, exposed the pair and accused them of sleeping together behind her back.

Megan first met Harry when she was working on the private jet during his band's On The Road tour last year. What she didn't know was that Harry was spending New Years with Kendall on a private yacht in St Barts - he had told her that New Years would be spent at home with his family.

Harry continued to deny the romance during an interview with Piers Morgan who asked him: "Are you dating Kendall Jenner, yes or no?" Harry cautiously replied: "I mean, we went out for dinner, but no. I guess." According to the paparazzi pictures of the pair getting close on the yacht it was a lot more than he is letting on.

11 Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth

The Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth love story has been going round in circles for many years now. The pair first got together on the set of the movie The Last Song in 2009, they became engaged in 2012 when Miley was just 19-years-old but then split a year later. Many believed the reason behind the split was Miley's shocking transformation from Disney star to the tongue-wagging, nude-wrecking-ball-riding star we all know today.

In an interview with Barbara Walters, Miley finally revealed the truth as she said: "I was so scared of ever being alone, and I think, conquering that fear, this year, was actually bigger than any other transition that I had, this entire year. Before she added: "I don't ever want to have to need someone again, where you feel like, without them, you can't be yourself."

Then in March this year they finally rekindled their romance. Miley Instagrammed a picture of her wearing a sports top with the name "Hemsworth" on the back. They are both keeping tight-lipped about the relationship though as she told GQ Australia: "People will figure it out, they already have… They're not dumb." Despite being complete opposites - maybe this time round the pair can make their engagement stretch to an actual wedding.

10 Cheryl and Liam Payne

The same month British pop singer and X Factor judge Cheryl announced she was divorcing her second husband, Jean-Bernard Fernandez-Versini, she hooked up with One Direction singer, Liam Payne. Many were shocked at the age gap, Cheryl is 32-years-old and Liam is 22-years-old, but also that Cheryl took Liam under her wing when he was just 16-years-old and auditioned for the X Factor.

Now the pair appears serious with Cheryl attending the wedding of Liam's sister and buying a house together. British tabloid The Sun also revealed that they were both planning on starting a family together despite being together for only a matter of months. They revealed: "It's very serious now between Cheryl and Liam and they have been talking among close friends about starting a family. She's content and while they're in the honeymoon period, this feels like a connection for the future."

We're guessing as soon as her divorce from her estranged is finalized that this odd couple will be running down the aisle shortly after.

9 Jerry Hall and Rupert Murdoch

Who said you can't get married at 85-years-old? Certainly not media giant Rupert Murdoch who married 59-year-old Jerry Hall, the ex-wife of Rolling Stones lead singer Mick Jagger, earlier this year during a low-key ceremony at Spencer House which overlooks Green Park in central London.

Murdoch, who owns Fox News, 20th Century Fox and Sky, has an estimated net worth of 10.6 billion which places him in the top 100 richest people in the world. Whereas thanks to a succesful modelling career Jerry Hall has a wealth of $15 million - far off from her new husbands fortune but staggering all the same.

Murdoch proposed to the former supermodel with a $2.4 million diamond ring after dating for just a few months. The pair were seen at the Met Gala this year laughing hysterically at their table proving that love can still happen even if you are edging close to becoming a century old.

8 Kate Hudson and Joe Jonas

One celebrity romance nobody saw coming this year was that between 37-year-old Kate Hudson and 23-year-old Joe Jonas. After a brief split, the pair were spotted dining out together in New York just last month, probably in a bid to rekindle the romance between them. They were apparently introduced late last year through Joe's brother, Nick Jonas, after Kate was out partying with him.

But are they officially an item? Joe Jonas didn't exactly confirm or deny the relationship during an interview with Now magazine - if anything he added more to the confusion and speculation. He said, "Whatever it was, I think it's between her and me. I'll just leave it at that. But it's never simple, with anything."

Then in a completely separate interview with Complex magazine he added: "Kate's incredible. We had an unbelievable connection as two humans who just admire things about each other, and see something in each other that's beautiful. Out of my best effort to respect her and her privacy, I'm not going to say if we had sex or not. But we did have a beautiful connection. Even now I have so much admiration and respect. She's amazing."

7 Chris Martin and Heather Graham

After his "conscious uncoupling" from his wife of 12 years and mother of his two children, Gwyneth Paltrow, Coldplay singer Chris Martin is now moving on. The 39-year-old had been spotted in April taking a romantic stroll along a Malibu beach with 46-year-old Heather Graham. He was spotted out with The Hangover actress shortly after his split from 31-year-old Amanda Wallis.

This isn't the first time Chris Martin has been linked to a Hollywood actress as last year he briefly dated Jennifer Lawrence. Despite the fact Chris and Heather had never been pictured together before (or that nobody can work out how on earth these two hooked up!) they appeared to be all smiles as they walked barefooted along the beach.

Fans are happy the singer has moved on and found new love. Gwyneth certainly didn't waste anytime herself when just six months after their divorce she moved in with Glee co-creator, Brad Falchuk.

6 Rihanna and Leonardo DiCaprio

Nobody really knows what is going on between Rihanna and Leonardo DiCaprio but something certainly is. This year the couple were spotted at Coachella festival standing closely together watching the bands on their own and also in Las Vegas during a late-night hookup.

Rihanna was in town with her ANTI world tour and she later met the Academy Award winner in the VIP section at Intrigue Nightclub at 3am. Although they won't confirm their relationship, we find it hard to believe Rihanna would be rushing out at 3am to meet someone who was just a friend.

Many believe the Work singer is torn between a romance with rapper Drake or The Revenant star himself. Must be a tough life when faced with decisions like those. Rihanna told Hello! magazine that her next man will have to put up with her being such an in demand star. She said, "I'm so busy right now that I just don't have a lot of time to offer to a man so it wouldn't even be fair to be thinking of pulling somebody else into this life. But if I did, he would have to be man enough to live with my schedule and not get scared."

5 Prince Harry and Ellie Goulding 

Known as the "rebel prince", Prince Harry has had his fair share of beautiful women. His most recent romance has been with singer Ellie Goulding after they met during a polo match. Well if there was ever a place you were likely to pinch a prince then it would be at the polo.

The pair have known each other for years and Ellie even performed for his brother Prince William during his royal wedding to Kate Middleton. The Sun reported: "He has told friends how much he likes Ellie and she is clearly taken by him." A royal insider added: "Harry got Ellie's number a while ago and got in touch. They'd always got on very well through their various meetings after she was the wedding singer at Kate and William's wedding reception. But things stepped up a gear and they had been in touch in recent weeks and their first really public meeting since was at the polo."

Rumours are the two shared a kiss as the insider added: "They were seen having a kiss before Harry had to go because he was playing polo the next day. Ellie left about five minutes later." Looks like there could be another royal wedding on the cards if the Love Me Like You Do singer keeps him keen.

4 Sarah Paulson and Holland Taylor

American Horror Story and The People v OJ: American Crime Story actress Sarah Paulson completely ignored the almost 30 year age gap between her and new girlfriend, Two And A Half Men actress 73-year-old Holland Taylor, and just became smitten anyway.

She confirmed to New York Times earlier this year: "What I can say absolutely is that I am in love, and that person happens to be Holland Taylor." Before she started dating Holland she was in a seven-year relationship with Cherry Jones who was 19 years her senior so she is no stranger to significant age gaps in relationships. Sarah added: "I've always walked to the beat of my own drum."

She also told the newspaper why she prefers being with someone older, revealing: "There's a poignancy to being with someone older. I think there's a greater appreciation of time and what you have together and what's important, and it can make the little things seem very small. I can't say it any other way than there's a poignancy to it, and a heightened sense of time and the value of time."

3 Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik

Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik made their relationship official at the start of this year with of course - a couple's selfie on Instagram. The pair got together very shortly after Zayn split from his fiancé of three years, Little Mix's Perrie Edwards. What was very odd was seeing down-to-earth and notoriously shy Zayn become involved with such a high profile star like Gigi.

Within months of being together, they had starred in Zayn's Pillow Talk video and also landed a Vogue photo shoot that saw them both caressing each other in every shot. Then rumors the pair were in trouble started the day after the Met Gala when a video emerged showing Gigi demanding Zayn smiled and posed for the cameras whereas Zayn just appeared like he would rather be anywhere else.

After a very brief split, it appears these two are back on again and the outgoing Gigi is helping Zayn through his anxiety troubles. He was due to perform at the Capital FM Summertime Ball at Wembley, London, last weekend but cancelled saying he had "suffered the worst anxiety of my career". Gigi posted she was proud of her boyfriend and "We are all here to support you" on Instagram.

2 Blac Chyna and Rob Kardashian

A very quick timeline of the Blac Chyna and Rob Kardashian love story: In January they both announced they were dating and a month later they moved in together at Rob's new California home. Rob then publicly declared his love in a tweet that read: "Love this woman right here so f**k y'all with your negative comments" and the two jetted off to Jamaica together to get away from all the bad press. Then in April they were engaged and by May they announced their first child was due later that year.

What also adds to this complicated romance is just how weird the family tree will be. Khloe Kardashian explained on her show Kocktails With Khloe: "My brother is dating Blac Chyna. My sister, Kylie, is dating Tyga, who is Chyna's baby daddy. I need a piece of paper to show you guys because it's confusing! It's like a soap opera, so it sounds very dramatic. Which it is." Fortunately now its not so complicated as both Kylie and Tyga have split.

Rob was known as the quietest member of the Kardashian family and for his reclusive behavior. Chyna, an outright extrovert, seemed like the last person he would hookup as he hates playing the fame game - but she managed to bag him, get her ring and have his baby all in less than six months. The saga continues on the very own reality show that is due out later this year.

1 Taylor Swift and Tom Hiddleston

We didn't even get a month to mourn the Taylor Swift and Calvin Harris breakup before pictures emerged in The Sun of Taylor kissing British born actor Tom Hiddleston on a Rhode Island beach. What followed after the news broke was a mass-deletion of Instagram posts on Calvin's account as he erased every last memory of their 15-month relationship. He then posted a cryptic tweet which read: "Oh boy it's about to go down" which has since been deleted too.

There was no fighting it though as "Hiddleswift" was born. The pair met only a month earlier at the Met Gala, where Taylor offered Tom a dance off - but many questioned is this romance the real deal? Some believed the pictures of the two hand in hand together were too clear and well framed for them to be the work of intrusive paparazzi. Were the images staged? Is this all a PR stunt in a bid to gain global exposure? Do they actually have anything in common at all? Time will tell but for now we just have to wait and hear all about it on Taylor's next album.
