Celebrities are a lot of fun to follow. It is interesting to see what they do and what they wear. It gives you some ideas for your own wardrobe and how you can amp it up to be similar to that of your favorite celebrity. Celebrities are the first ones to show off new trends and try unique things. This can be a great way to learn new styles and embrace them yourself. But there are other times when celebrities' styles can go seriously wrong.

We love hearing about the best and worst dressed at any celebrity-filled event. The red carpet is the walk of extreme judgement as critics, fans, and the public will criticize their outfits. It is a time when a celebrity can do something risky and sometimes it works, while other times they get hated on in the tabloids. It is the type of gossip that draws us to the magazines (who wore it better?).

Although we may not copy their style exactly, society loves to hear and see about the worst- dressed celebrities. It is entertaining to discuss why they would ever have thought to wear that. We just love to see those terribly dressed celebrities because it also makes us feel a bit more normal and smart (WE would never have worn that!).

The year 2016 was a crazy one for many celebs, and there were some awful things that happened as well as some bad outfits that were worn on the red carpet. Here are 15 of the worst celebrity outfits for 2016!

15 Johnny Depp

Johnny Depp has always had a unique sense of style. Ever since his role in Pirates of the Caribbean as Jack Sparrow, it seems as though some of the pirate stuck with him in his wardrobe. Layered clothing is his thing and in this awful outfit, he chose some terrible pieces. Not only does he decide to go with the unkempt hair look (which, sometimes can look good), but he wore all black of varying textures! A black long-sleeved shirt, black pants, black shoes, and (worst of all) a black suede vest. It looks as though he is wearing a panther vest that clashes against the other black items. Who would have thought black against black could look so terrible? With the addition of the long scarf hanging from his pocket, you wonder if it was a piece from his pirate costume or a hanky he needed to blow his nose.

14 Lady Gaga

We all know that Lady Gaga has rocked some very “unique” outfits in the past and many times we are just waiting for her to come out with the next, most outrageous thing. Now that Lady Gaga has toned down her intense wardrobe slightly, it is a shock to know that she has one of the worst celebrity outfits of 2016! At the Grammy Awards, she strutted down the red carpet in a dazzling slit blue dress, orange hair, and clownish blue makeup. What makes this outfit awful is that all of these strange items are put together. The unique pattern on her dress is acceptable, but the high slit and the crazy hair just make it look as though she should hop on the next wagon back to the carnival. She looks more like a clown than a pop star! As shocking as it is, Lady Gaga is in the top 15 worst celebrity outfits of 2016.

13 Joy Villa

Over the years, celebrities have had no problem exposing excessive amounts of skin. Many of them are not afraid to wear a see-through dress, or a skirt that is so short it leaves little to the imagination. There are scandalous outfits and then there is Joy Villa's outfit. Joy Villa bore almost all of it when wearing this “dress.” She could have worn a skimpy bikini and hid more than this piece. Not only is it very revealing, but it is extremely strange! The vine-like pieces cover parts of her but make no sense. It almost looks as though someone found black duct tape and decided to draw lines across her like a zebra. Then, of course, she must complete this awful look with a strange head piece, a spider-web-looking cape, and very colorful hair. The only thing that is acceptable about this outfit are her very standard shoes!

12 Dencia

When celebrities walk down the red carpet to big events like the Emmy's or the Grammy Awards, you expect them to want to dress their best and show off. It is their time to shine and they want to look great doing it. Then there is Dencia. She showed up to the Grammy Awards wearing a hot pink jumpsuit. It looks like she stole a jumper from a mechanics garage, dyed it pink and TRIED to bedazzle it with sparkles and random Hello Kitty plush toys. Her hair was styled to look as though she came right out of a crimping catalog and her grumpy expression leaves you wondering if she just woke up. The whole outfit makes her look as though she was a three-year-old who went too crazy with a glitter gun, Hello Kitty, and the color pink. There is nothing good about this outfit and is one of the worst celebrity outfits of 2016!

11 Lori Petty

It is always great to see older actors and actresses wearing unique outfits. It makes them appear younger than they are and gives the impression that they are still willing to live life to the fullest. Lori Petty is currently 53 years old and may be pushing her “fun” wardrobe a bit too much. She doesn't have that young body anymore (although she is still rocking it for sure!). Lori Petty looks as though she was about to go skydiving, fell through a pink cloud, and then all of those emergency straps somehow stuck onto her ensemble. If anyone needs to tie anything down at this event, she is your girl! The fact that her midriff is sticking out randomly does nothing to help the outfit either. Her pants are overly baggy and it makes you wonder what she thought she looked like when she walked out the door before the big event.

10 Bella Thorne

Bella Thorne was known for her role in the Disney television show Shake It Up as well as a handful of other family films. As we know, many stars that begin with Disney grow up and begin to rebel to get away from that young-girl Disney image (such as Hilary Duff, Demi Lovato, Selena Gomez, etc.). Bella Thorne seems to be going through her phase of wanting to stand out, and with this outfit, she got her wish. This outfit is all kinds of bad, with a strange bra underneath a tight black blazer, as well as some black pants that seem to glitter. The ensemble is very weird, but what makes the ensemble the strangest is the horrible thing she did to her hair. Bella Thorne has beautiful hair, but for the American Music Awards, she decided to choose a sickly green to dip-dye the ends of her hair. What was she thinking?

9 Regina King

Regina King has been in various films and television shows that have made her memorable. Unfortunately, with this awful outfit, she will be sure to be remembered just a bit more! Most actresses choose a dress that will stand out but look stunning on them. They take risks and sometimes it works out for them, but unfortunately for Regina King, that risk was a bad one and she fell short by a long shot. This sequined dress does nothing to show off her beautiful figure. The cape behind it could have been her dress and would have looked a lot better, but she decided to go with the sequins. The dress has a weird slit right up the middle of her legs, that almost make it look like she is wearing a onesie or she is preparing to do the splits at any moment. This is one of the worst celebrity outfits of 2016!

8 Katy Perry

Katy Perry has outrageous styles that she wears for a lot of her music videos. They are the part of the video that make it entertaining and keep you watching. Outside of her music videos, Katy Perry can be quite glamorous, but still stay edgy. In this outfit, she did so many things wrong. We know that Game of Thrones has inspired many outfits, but this medieval piece of lingerie with studded gold looks like Game of Thrones gone bad! Along with the weird top, there is something on her hips that make her look wider than normal. It flares out like a small tutu but then she continues to wear leggings underneath. The outfit is complete with a gaudy cross and a thick black choker that appears to be made from her leggings. She styled her hair in a dragon-like manner to match her “theme.” If only Katy knew just how awful she looked!

7 Kiesza

What the heck is going on? That is all anyone will say when they see Kiesza in this strange outfit. She will be sure to be turning heads all day long while wearing that unique contraption. The white material looks like paper, as though a grade two class decided to do a paper maché project and then glued it on Kiesza. The patterns look almost tribal, but then are laid out strangely on her body. Her bust is covered, her nether regions are covered, and her shoulders are protected by the scale-looking scraps of paper. We are unsure if she was going for a tribal look, a Greek goddess that got her dress ripped up, or a child's science-fair project. You just have to hope that her butt is covered by the awful pattern of the dress! This get-up is definitely one of the worst celebrity outfits of the year 2016!

6 Cate Blanchett

Cate Blanchett is known as a blonde beauty. She is a gorgeous woman who has starred in many films that have blown audiences away! Her soft skin and stunning eyes make everyone want to be her friend. The only thing that will keep people away is possibly this dress. Usually Cate Blanchett has phenomenal dresses and walks down the red carpet looking like royalty, but for this event, she is looking more like a fashion disaster. Her dress is made to look as though it has hundreds of butterflies poorly stapled onto the dress. Although the shape is nice, the color and the texture make it look sickly. She looks like one of those Barbie's whose dress exploded after a child played with it too much. The color of the dress also makes it appear worse than it is. Normally, mint is the sought-after color, but she just looks like a bunch of butterflies are attacking her.

5 Heidi Klum

Heidi Klum is well renowned in the fashion industry. She has hosted shows such as Project Runway and is affiliated with tons of fashion designers. You expect with her high involvement in fashion that she would stun crowds with her clothes every day. But at the Emmy's, Heidi Klum decided to let all that fashion knowledge slip away. She wears a yellow outfit that is neither dress nor shirt. The left side of her body is covered in a canary yellow curtain, while the right of her body is covered in a Tinker Bell-inspired leaf dress. Fishnet material floats down from her hips to the floor, making her legs look like something from a strip-club. This weird two-faced dress does nothing to flatter her figure or make her look beautiful. The color washes her out and leaves her looking pale and perhaps a bit uncomfortable? Congratulations Heidi Klum -- you made it to the worst outfits of 2016 list!

4 Alan Cumming

You probably think that men's formal wear is something that can't go too wrong. I mean, come on, it is a pair of pants, a dress shirt, tie, and a suit jacket -- what could possibly go wrong? Alan Cummings is here to break all all those stereotypes you had of menswear! This outfit is probably the worst men's outfit the red carpet has seen in years! He decided to go looking like a sailor with the navy blazer matched perfectly with navy shorts. The blazer, from far away, looks like it might even have U.F.O's on it! He tried hard to dress it up by throwing on a bow tie, but then utterly failed when he decided to grab his most comfortable pair of black sneakers, as well as some black ankle socks! He looks like he just came out of a science fair or his mother let him dress himself this morning. The peace sign makes the outfit complete -- completely terrible, that is!

3 Jess Glynn

Singer Jess Glynn is known for her powerful pipes and bright red hair. The woman is a rising star who is becoming more well-known with time. At the red carpet, she decided to wear something that would ensure she would be well-known for years to come! Strutting down the carpet in a sparkly green pant suit, with pants that bell-bottom out (Austin Powers would be proud!), she wears nothing under the suit jacket and instead lets it plunge down to reveal her chest. Of course, when trying to look retro, it helps if you have platform heels and you NEED to have big hair! Jess Glynn's red hair appears to be back-combed to oblivion and stands out shockingly against the alligator-green outfit. Sorry Jess Glynn, but this is an outfit that is one way to get the BAD kind of attention. This is one of the worst celebrity outfits of 2016!

2 David Lee Roth

Anyone down for a round of scuba-diving golf? At least that is what it looks like David Lee Roth will be doing later in the day in this outfit. He has the plaid pants and vest that work perfectly for a posh golf game, but then he rocks his tight Under Armor shirt underneath. His outfit has so many pieces of different sports-wear that you are unsure what sport he will be playing! Will he play some soccer with his Adidas cleats? Will he play that game of golf? Or will he go for a jog with his sweat-resistant, breathable Under Armor shirt? There is nothing red-carpet worthy about this outfit and you wish he would go change to save himself some embarrassment later! You just hope that David Lee Roth is making a quick exit at the Music Awards to ensure he isn't seen by too many people. But don't worry, he is probably really good at sports!

1 Pharrel Williams

Pharrel Williams was known best for his strange high bowler hat that he wore when performing and in his music videos. But for the year of 2016, he decided that a tall bowler hat wasn't enough and he needed to literally “blend in." Pharrel Williams wears a camouflage shirt and pants that somehow seem to clash with each other. His shirt is the forest texture so the deer won't see him coming, but the pants are more of an army camouflage. His trucker hat, of course, matches his shirt, but that does little to help. Beneath the round shades, a slight smile is seen on his face (“because he's happy… ”), but you wonder what he is really thinking behind those eyes. Maybe he is wondering if the cameras can't see him because his outfit makes him pretty much invisible! Sadly, his seeming attempt to camouflage actually has the opposite effect -- he stands out drastically, and not in a good way.
