15 Reasons Why Kris Jenner Is The Real MVP
Kris Jenner doesn't get enough credit. Any way you slice it, the Kardashian/Jenner crew is a wildly successful and popular bunch, and they couldn't do any of it without their mom. Not only is Kris Jenner willing and able to mother so many children choosing extreme careers in the spotlight, and she also totally emotionally supports it. And then on top of that, she also works as their manager, which is a hard enough of a job in general, but add to the fact that this is family working together and it's amazing that anything actually gets done. When you start to break it down it's actually alarming that there is only Kris Jenner. She's basically running an empire here, and it doesn't appear that she has a ton of help doing it. She kind of dove in and stayed committed to the cause all the way through, and my goodness did she make something major out of it! Here are 15 reasons why Kris Jenner is the real MVP.
15 She Forgave Kim For Her Tape
Sometimes it's easy to forget where Kim Kardashian came from. Back in the day, she was hanging out with celebs like Paris Hilton… but she was also working as her assistant. Kim launched her career with the release of a home video with Ray J, and Kris had a hand in it. (Ok ok maybe it's not how they got their start but we still aren't buying it). Kris has said that as a mom when she found out about Kim's home video she wanted to kill her, but as her manager, she saw an opportunity that she had to take. Some people would take that a step further and assume that Kris actually set up the whole thing as a publicity stunt to help launch Kim to fame, but no one outside of the Kardashians knows that for sure. Just think, this is her daughter on a tape sleeping with some dude and she got past the emotional part of that and leveraged the opportunity. Not everyone would agree with the tactic on an ethics principle, but it worked, and it made all of them extremely rich and famous, so you know. They're probably not losing any sleep over it.
14 She Basically Redefined Fame
Kris not only manages Kim but she manages all of her children… and herself, too. Kim's career was the first to pop and then she was able to keep it growing, and growing, and growing, while at the same time also launching and growing the careers of her other kids. Whatever anyone thinks about their "famous for doing nothing" situation, you have to admit that it's pretty brilliant. Every single one of her kids is wildly successful by many definitions of the word, and in making them so she basically created their own version of fame. She didn't sit back and assume that there's not a space for them in the world of celebrity just because they don't sing, act, write, whatever. She figured with the right kind of managing, and styling, and decisions to highlight ahem certain physical characteristics, that her kids were just as able of being mega stars as anyone else out there. And because she believed that, it's true.
13 She Supports Her Kids
The Kardashian and Jenner kids have their bread and butter set up with the show, but she has always been supportive of their other interests. There was a period of time that Khloe wanted to be an actress, and there was even a time that Kim dabbled in singing. Oh yes, Kim Kardashian recorded a song and shot a video for a song called "Jam (Turn it Up.)" The song was released in 2011, back when she wasn't quite the star that she is now. Sure the show was popular and Kim was well known, she even did her time on Dancing With the Stars… which itself is hard to imagine at this point in time. Now the single was not exactly a hit, in fact someone said that Kim was "the worst singer in the reality TV universe." But all of the proceeds for the sale of the song went to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, and you can bet that Kris Jenner thought all of this was a great idea even if she knew that Kim was not cut out to be a singer in the slightest.
12 She Has Survived Some Emotional Stuff
Let's not forget about Kris' personal life. Aye caramba. Kris was once married to Robert Kardashian (the dad of her oldest kids) and then he passed away from cancer. Anyone who's been through that sort of ordeal knows it's rough and can seriously throw you for a loop. Eventually, she ended up marrying Bruce Jenner with whom she had a couple more kids, and viewers have been able to tell that there was some serious tension in that marriage for many years. Ultimately they ended things and Bruce transitioned to Caitlyn, which is a huge change for everyone on many levels. Following that there was some public tension when Kris felt like Caitlyn spoke poorly of their time together, which you can imagine is hard to sort through. Any kind of breakup is hard, but when it's made public it gets way harder. And when there are kids involved it's complicated, and when there are gender transitions we would assume that also brings up some emotions. It's a lot of change. And she's never skipped a beat in her work life that we can see.
11 She's An Exec Producer On 'KUWTK'
Kris doesn't just get by on the ten percent that she makes as a manager for clients/kids, she knows where the real money is, and that's their TV show. Kris is an executive producer of their reality show Keeping Up with the Kardashians, alongside Ryan Seacrest and a bunch of other people. To be clear, most reality stars are reality stars, not executive producers of their own reality TV shows. That's money. It also means that she gets to make decisions about the content and how the show unfolds over the years. Keeping Up with the Kardashians is one of the longest-running reality shows, and currently in its 12th season. They've also had broadcast specials during some events, and six spin-off series: Kourtney and Kim Take Miami, Kourtney and Kim Take New York, Khloé & Lamar, Kourtney and Khloé Take The Hamptons, Dash Dolls, and, most recently, Rob & Chyna. Really think about that… bonkers.
10 She pursues her own interests as well
Kris isn't just spending her time being a momager and losing herself in the process, she also pursues her own interests. She even launched her own daytime talk show called Kris which did not end up working out, but even attempting it and getting that on air is way beyond a passion project. It's not the easiest thing in the world to attempt something like that when you know that everyone is watching (and that a lot of people are hoping that you might fail), but she didn't let that stop her. The show did end up failing but she probably doesn't see it as a failure, she probably sees it as an awesome time when she got to live out her dream for a bit. And she has described it as being her dream to have a talk show, The show was a mixture of fashion, beauty, and lifestyle talk, as well as hosting plenty of famous guests including of course her family members. Kris said that the opportunity was "a dream come true."
9 She Takes The Drama In Stride
Let's be honest here, kids are not always super nice to their parents. It's easy to take out our emotions on the people closest to us because we know they aren't going to leave or hate us for it. (Generally.) The Kardashian/Jenner kids are no different, and sometimes they have annoyances at her or demands for her that would crumble the average person. There's no doubt that her feelings get hurt, it doesn't feel great when people don't appreciate all that you do for them all the time. But she also doesn't seem to let those emotions get in the way of the work that she needs to get done. Imagine if one of her kids pissed her off and then she made some move that negatively affected their career. She just wouldn't do it. She sees them as a unit in the business sense and she seems to totally be able to separate out the family and the business stuff even though the family is literally the business. Not everyone would be able to do that at all.
8 She Protects Her Family
In a New York Times profile of Kris, she said that there are a stack of non-disclosure agreements in the entryway of her house so that her guests can sign them. They reportedly read: “What we say here, what we see here, let it stay here when we leave here.” When you think about it this must be true because keeping their privacy amongst their public personas is key for both the family and the business. That way they can stay in control about the details that they leak. Think about it, have you ever heard a rumor about a Kardashian about like something that was in their bedroom, based on what someone saw when they came over for dinner? No. And with as large of a family as the Kardashian/Jenners are, there are a lot of other people involved in their lives. Think about the potential of having a catty friend from time to time or an angry ex-boyfriend. These people must be signing some major non-disclosure agreements.
7 She's Thrilled About The Success Of Her Kids
The Kardashians and the Jenners have done so much and had so many massive splashes in the entertainment world that you would think they would get used to it and that not every single thing that happened would be a huge deal. Like singers sometimes don't remember big performances that they did at past award shows or whatever, because when you do that much you can only file so much away in your brain. Everyone's life seems somewhat normal to them no matter how extreme it seems to the outsider. However, Kris Jenner seems to get super excited about the successes of her kids which is incredibly adorable. She is frequently in attendance at their events (whatever those events might be), and she's not just passively sitting there. When Kendall first walked the Victoria's Secret runway, Kris was like her biggest fan taping her on her phone from the audience. As if the footage wouldn't be available online anyway.
6 Her Fashion Sense Is Evolving
Kris' sense of fashion has evolved over the years in a big way, and she doesn't really feel like anything is off-limits. Kris not only wears a lot of the same styles and designers as her daughters, but sometimes she actually wears the exact same things. Of course this tends to annoy her kids, since she is the mom, but Kris never seems to mind that they're irritated at her for stealing their looks. Not all moms have an interest in keeping up with the latest styles, but Kris seems to have adopted this outlook that there's no reason to start dressing older if you still feel youthful. And let's be honest, she looks great! No matter what her family or the general public would say about her desire to dress and fashionable she is doing it in a way that works for her. And that authenticity and confidence is a really great quality to showcase to a household of kids, even if those are adult kids. People tend to look to their parents to learn some lessons about life, and having the confidence to be yourself is a good one to learn.
5 She's Open About Her Plastic Surgery
Plastic surgery isn't for everyone, but Kris Jenner believes that it has been a really good thing for her and she isn't shy about the fact that she thinks so. In fact, she's actually gotten procedures done on the show proving that she's totally open about it and comfortable with that being a part of her life, including some sort of facelift procedure and a breast enhancement surgery. Kris has also admitted to using Botox, lasers, and fillers."When I did my neck on camera for Keeping Up, Garth Fisher did it, Garth is a great surgeon. So Garth is somebody I've trusted with my kids and friends and everybody else. Never say never, but right now I'd say I'm done. I've had great experiences." The thing about being totally open about doing stuff to your face is that there's less that people can say about it. Sure they can compare the before and afters, or they can say that they don't agree with it, but there's no need to speculate about it.
4 She Lets Her Kids Stay With Her
Many mothers would be willing to let their children come home and stay for a while if they needed to, but Kris let Kim move back into home for a period of over two years when she was pregnant, married, and had young babies. That's kind of a lot for anyone, even if you have a giant mansion. As it played out on the show, Kris was actually sort of losing her mind since Kim seemed to feel like she could take over the place and do whatever she wanted with the space. She even tried to control the noise and stuff for her sleeping kids which is great, but also it wasn't her house. Even though she was annoyed at Kim trying to take over her office, bathroom, and storage spaces in addition to the bedroom that she was given, Kris didn't ever force her to leave because she knew that she needed the space to live while her other home was being built. She might have even enjoyed having them around, which is actually pretty sweet.
3 She Has A Sense Of Humor
Kris seems to have her head on pretty straight, despite living in a totally insane world. She actually has a sense of humor about herself, her kids, and the whole situation that they've gotten themselves into. On one episode of Keeping Up with the Kardashians Kris managed to drink some wine straight from the bottle without letting the glass touch her mouth, and she made a joke about it by saying "and they say we have no talent." That sense of humor is the only reason why any of this works. There are offensive things being said about the Kardashian/Jenner family all day everyday, and a lot of people hate them for no reason based on the mega fame aspect alone. That's a lot of negative energy flying their direction. But having a sense of humor about it and not taking on all those opinions is why they've continued to grow and make more and more money, and laugh themselves all the way to the bank while other people sit around and try to crap on them. Who's really winning.
2 She Keeps It Real
In one episode, when asked what her favorite day of the year was, Kris said that it was the day that Oprah came over. Her son in law Scott Disick quickly responded "Not the day Penelope was born? You heartless wench." So funny. Grandchildren are great but there's only one Oprah. Kris doesn't tend to correct herself or being thrown by the attitude that comes her way by her children and all of their friends/lovers, she just keeps doing her thing. Once she laid in a coffin and said that it reminded her of a Chanel purse. She has declared an emergency because there was no wine opener nearby and said that she was getting a rash from the stress of not having cell service. She makes fun of Kim from time to time, over things such as her 72-day marriage. She also tries to force her affection on her children when they aren't having it at all. Kris is just Kris all the time and she's low key pretty hilarious.
1 She Has A Ton Of Fun
Kris does not believe that being a mom and getting older means that you have to slow down. She takes care of herself, enjoys fashion, and goes to the exact same events and parties that her kids do. The woman likes to have fun. We've seen Kris do a keg stand and call it fun, pose nude, tag along to a pole dancing class, sit front row at the hottest fashion shows, and she's not shy about her love of wine even though not everyone in her family drinks. She might go overboard from time to time, and certainly her kids think that she should calm down a lot of the time and act like a mom as opposed to a sister, but the dynamic seems to work pretty well for them on a lot of levels and she looks like she's having a way better time than a lot of other moms out there. Again, it's pretty hard to imagine how she manages to keep this entire family together on a personal and professional level while she's also having way more fun than most of us ever will. But that's just why Kris Jenner is the real MVP here.
