15 Shows To Binge Now That PLL Is Over
June 27, 2017 was a very sad day. The seven seasons of the supernatural teen drama Pretty Little Liars have officially come to an end, and now the ultimate secret of who A is has been revealed. Maybe you guessed correctly or maybe you had no idea. But it's safe to say that you will seriously miss following along with Hanna, Spencer, Aria, Emily and Ali. It's definitely the end of an era. So what are you going to do now? You definitely need some new television shows to get obsessed with. Summer is officially here and it's the best season to stay indoors and binge-watch a good TV show. After all, you can't be outside all the time thanks to sunburns and extreme heat and humidity, so you will need some entertainment. Here are 15 shows that you should totally binge now that Pretty Little Liars is over.
15 Switched At Birth
Why not get into another Freeform (formerly ABC Family) drama that features teenagers and their families and their dramatic lives? Switched At Birth is about exactly what it sounds like. Two babies were switched at birth and went home with the wrong families. When Bay Kennish and Daphne Vasquez learn that they aren't the biological children of their parents, they are in high school. It changes their lives forever and the lives of their parents as well. Soon Daphne and her mom Regina are living in the guest house (which is basically a regular-sized house) at the Kennish residence. This show is sweet, charming, funny, and filled with drama and intrigue. You really won't be able to stop watching as soon as you check out the pilot. Thankfully, there are five seasons so you'll be busy for a while.
14 Twin Peaks
Pretty Little Liars has been compared to Twin Peaks since there are some similarities between the two shows. They both feature beautiful yet creepy small towns (Rosewood and Twin Peaks, of course) and they both open with the death of a pretty young girl. So you might as well check out the 1990s drama, right? There's really no reason not to. You want to keep up with the revival that is currently on the air and you want to have as much TV knowledge as you possibly can. At the very least, you want to know where the quote "This is a damn fine cup of coffee" comes from (spoiler alert: it's a quote from main character Dale Cooper on Twin Peaks). This show won't disappoint, especially if you're looking for a good mystery that keeps you guessing and doesn't always give you the answers that you are searching for. It will feel just like the good old days of Pretty Little Liars.
13 Supernatural
Supernatural is about, well, supernatural stuff, and since it stars two very adorable and attractive guys, you should definitely check it out. The main idea is that brothers Sam and Dean travel around the U.S. to check out creepy paranormal incidents. They are also searching for their dad who has disappeared and trying to figure out which supernatural force led to the death of their beloved mom. It's sad, heavy stuff but it's also really fun to watch. Picture a very touching, charming, and funny horror movie. That's kind of what you get when you watch this show. The good news is that there are 13 entire seasons, so you can watch them all this summer. It'll only take you two months to watch that many episodes, right? The funny thing is that Jared Padalecki aka Dean from Gilmore Girls plays Sam and Jensen Ackles plays Dean.
12 Greek
Greek is a drama (that also aired on ABC Family) about, well, Greek life at a college. The main characters are Casey and Rusty. Casey is a super pretty, popular sorority girl whose world is turned upside down when her nerdy brother Rusty not only starts attending her school but also decides to join a fraternity. She's not thrilled with this idea at first. Okay, that's an understatement. But eventually, it turns out to be a blessing in disguise. There are four seasons so it's a pretty good candidate for a binge-watch. There are parties, drunken moments, hook-ups, relationships, break-ups, and more. It's one of those sweet shows that makes you laugh as much as it makes you smile, and yes, you might shed a few tears once you get attached to the characters. Which you will in about one minute. It's that good of a show.
11 Freaks and Geeks
This drama aired from 1999 until 2000 so it definitely falls into the "amazing 90s show" category. Linda Cardellini stars as Lindsay Weir, the main character, and other famous faces include James Franco, Busy Phillips, Seth Rogen, and Jason Segel. Since you're in serious teen drama withdrawal now that Pretty Little Liars is over, Freaks and Geeks is the perfect show. It's about a group of misfits and a group of geeks who go to the same high school. It will bring back some memories for sure -- some good, some not so good -- and you will definitely relate to the characters. Plus it's absolutely hilarious. And it's really fun to watch the stars before they were as famous as they are today. It will give you some major pop culture street cred. Sadly, it was cancelled after only a single season, which is very unfortunate.
10 Daytime Divas
Want to watch a show about women who host a daytime talk show where the drama never ends? Of course, right? Daytime Divas stars Vanessa Williams as a, well, diva who hosts a show called "The Lunch Hour" with three women. They pretend to love each other while they are on the air, but when the cameras aren't rolling, these ladies just don't get along. They are totally jealous of each other and crazy competitive (and sometimes just plain crazy). The show is a lot of fun to watch since there are secrets and affairs and backstabbing. Only a handful of episodes have aired so far so this will be a pretty short binge-watch, but it will be a really enjoyable one. That's okay. You have so many other shows on this list to choose from. Or you could wait until the first season is over before watching them all.
9 Famous In Love
You might have heard about this juicy drama and it's time to see for yourself. Bella Thorne plays the series' main character Paige Towsen, a college student who gets cast in a movie and becomes a famous actress pretty much overnight. She struggles with how to play the fame game and falls in love with her infamous co-star, Rainer Devon. It's got something in common with PLL: the creator and show runner, I. Marlene King. If you haven't checked it out yet, what are you waiting for? There's really no reason not to. There is drama, there are hook-ups, and there are pretty people. You really can't ask for anything more. The first season has 10 episodes so it's a decent binge-watch. Grab your BFFs and make it a girls' night in with wine and junk food. You will definitely become captivated and not want to stop watching.
8 The Fall
If you're not sick of the whole crime drama genre, then you should definitely watch The Fall. This show has had three seasons so far and stars Gillian Anderson (who you know from The X Files) as a detective superintendent who is looking into a serial killer (played by Jamie Dornan). Of course, you're probably not tired of the crime drama since these types of shows are some of the most enjoyable to watch. You get all the juicy storylines of a typical drama but you also get to guess who did what and figure out who the good and bad guys are as you watch. It's a good show to watch with other people so you can have a good chat after each episode and talk about what you think is going on. You probably know someone who has watched it, so go ahead and binge. And then make sure that you talk to someone about it.
7 Broadchurch
Did you miss this show when it was big a few years ago? There is an American remake of the British show, so if you have a lot of time on your hands or you want to, you should watch both versions of the series. They are pretty similar but have different styles and tones, so you won't be bored even if you already know what happened and have all the answers. After all, when it comes to a mystery show that revolves around a crime, there is always more to think about and wonder about. The original BBC version of Broadchurch stars David Tennant and Olivia Colman as detectives who are looking into the death of a young boy. There are three seasons (and the most recent one aired in February 2017). It was pretty popular when the first season started airing, so you definitely don't want to miss out.
6 LOST
If you've already seen LOST, then there is no time like this summer to binge the entire show from the very beginning. You will still notice different nuances about each character and learn new things since it's such an amazing, intelligent, layered, and epic show. If you've never seen the stranded-on-an-island drama, then the time is totally now and you should definitely put that on your summer to-do list. You can find someone to chat about it with since you probably have a few relatives or friends who loved this show back when it was on the air. It's kind of impossible not to know someone who loves it. You will become completely captivated from the very first episode and you might just find yourself cancelling all your plans and/or refusing to be social because you can't stop watching episode after episode.
5 The Leftovers
The Leftovers is the television adaptation of the novel by the same name by Tom Perrotta and it's a really interesting show that is also very well-crafted and very poetic. It's about a group of people who are the ones left in the world after a mysterious incident disappeared everyone else. This show will definitely keep you guessing. The third and final season just finished airing, so you have three entire seasons to catch up on, which is really the best news ever. There's actually nothing worse than watching a pilot that has just aired on TV. All you want is to keep watching but since there has only been one episode so far, you just have to wait. And you are definitely not a patient person. Nope. Not at all. It's not your fault. You're so used to binge-watching that you never want to watch a show in any other way.
4 Riverdale
The TV adaptation of the beloved Archie comic book series is absolutely worth watching. Your friends have probably been bugging you to watch it, so you might as well start immediately. You don't want to be left out, after all, and you want to keep up your social life. Everyone is there -- adorable Betty, fashionable Veronica, mean girl Cheryl, mysterious Jughead and super cute Archie. There's also a murder mystery which will definitely keep you interested and which will make it impossible for you to stop watching. You've already heard so many good things about this show. You might as well check it out. Since you're already a fan of teen dramas set in pretty small towns with a creepy storyline, based on your adoration of Pretty Little Liars, it seems only natural that you would love Riverdale as well.
3 The Lying Game
This two-season show is based on the young adult took series of the same name by Sara Shepard, who wrote the Pretty Little Liars series. Naturally, you totally have to watch it. The main storyline: Emma and Sutton have just learned that they are twins who weren't kept together when they were born. While Sutton dies in the book series, that didn't happen on the show and instead, Sutton asks Emma if she will pretend to be her and discover some stuff. It's a fun, juicy show that you will love, especially if you like shows about pretty people dealing with crazy complicated stuff. And of course you do, since you love Pretty Little Liars. Once you start watching, you will probably want your friends to tune in as well so you can talk about it, so you might as well invite them over and binge together.
2 Twisted
Twisted was an ABC Family show that lasted for only a single season, but despite that, it's definitely a great teen show. The show is about three teenagers who were childhood best friends: Danny, Lacey, and Jo. They have grown apart over the years since Danny was in juvie for five years. Now that he's back in town, they have to face the past and deal with things. A classmate dies and Danny is blamed since he's the easiest target, thanks to him being sent to juvie for supposedly ending his aunt's life. You will believe that Danny is innocent right away and it will be a pretty frustrating viewing experience for you, but you will still really enjoy watching the show and thinking about all of the storylines and implications. It's one of those awesome underrated shows that you can't believe more people didn't watch.
1 The Vampire Diaries
Here's the final show you should binge this summer: The Vampire Diaries. Maybe you watched the first few seasons and then gave up. Maybe your BFF can't believe that you didn't see it all the way through. Maybe you've only seen a handful of episodes. Now that the show is officially done, you might as well go back to the beginning and check it out. Chances are, you will become totally obsessed and addicted, like all of the other loyal fans out there. Since there is so much going on, from love triangles to romance to friendships to backstories to all of the supernatural stuff, you definitely won't be bored. And you will definitely wonder what took you so long to watch it. At least now you will know why fans have been so distraught over the fact that the series finale recently aired. Let the binge-watching begin.
