15 Shows You Didn't Know Celebs Binge-Watch On Netflix

As it turns out, stars ARE just like the rest of us; shopping for groceries, walking their dog, and - would you look at that - tuning into our favourite Netflix shows! Who knew celebrities and the rest of the world would share so much in common? We each pay the same $10 Netflix bill, so how could our lives possibly be that different? You know, other than the fact that they have millions of dollars, personal chefs, and McMansions… and we don't.

Aside from being charged for the same service, celebs are also indulging in our favourite pastime: binge-watching. To binge, or not to binge, that is the question we all face come midnight. Of course, when you're caught up in the middle of your favourite season, and have begun to live out the fierce emotions of your favourite characters, there's no choice but to answer “Yes!” to the service's only question to its audience, “Are you still watching?”. Binge-watching is an intense undertaking, that requires a lot of downtime and commitment, which is hard to come by even if you're working in retail. Given these binge-requirements, you may be surprised to learn that celebs are just as guilty as us when it comes to being hard-core lazy and succumbing to our addictions.

    15 Emma Watson / Friends

Emma may play a magical and bossy Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter flicks, but this real-life, down-to-earth feminist is just like the rest of us singing, “I'll be there for you” while watching the umpteenth rerun of Friends. Similar to the six-some in this popular sitcom, we can't help but want to legit Netflix & chill with Emma. She's super relatable, funny, and doesn't take herself too seriously. Translation: you could totally picture her being in this show, even if it did end over a decade ago. If she can tune into Chandler's awkward jokes, Monica's neurotic behaviour, and have a stance on the “We were on a break!” debacle, then isn't she basically our soul sister? We've lived through the same experiences, reference the jokes in everyday situations, and both our lives basically revolve around this show. So, we're totally besties now.

    14 Miley Cyrus / Grace & Frankie

Who knew that this country pop-tart turned hip-hop hussy would go from daisy-dukes to dentures. Alright, maybe her love of the pot-smoking, vibrator and lube inventors of the show aren't entirely unbelievable. The newly-single geriatrics on Grace & Frankie aren't known to be kosher when it comes to dropping the F-bomb or discussing their sex life, which might be why Miley enjoys it so much. Not only that, Jane Fonda's daughter on the show certainly has a sharp tongue of her own. Maybe Miley's lack of censorship inspired the writers in crafting her snappy dialogue? Miley is best known for her free spirit and expressive love, and that's exactly what this unique and easy-to-watch Netflix original has going for it. It's modern, full of love in all its forms, and gives all us thirty-something's hope for our elder years that we CAN have a life past 65!

13 Barack Obama / House of Cards

As a contrast to the interest Michelle has in the female-led political drama, Scandal, Barack has taken an interest in the Netflix original House of Cards. No surprise here! Another show which centres around the corruption of government and scandalous politicians, this male-led series has all the ploys to make any president or senator sit at the edge of their seat. In fact, anyone looking to satisfy their political itch is going to be bingeing the U.K. remake right alongside the former U.S. president. What is it about these White House-based shows that has the two-time First Family cramming their episodes into the late hours? Is it entertaining as to how far-fetched the plot lines seem to be, or are they watching to see how closely the scripts come to what's really happening behind the desk of the Oval Office? Only the Obama's will truly know.

    12  Rihanna / Breaking Bad

There is no celebrity more fitting than RiRi in choosing Breaking Bad as their favourite show. Is it a coincidence that this wholesome and sweet flower-child ended up turning into a rebellious bad gal, a la Walter White? This S&M singer has more in common with the show's main character than Los Pollos Hermanos has fried chicken. Okay, maybe that's a stretch. After all, she's no chemical genius and she's not cultivating meth in between international tours. But Disturbia's lyrics had to have been inspired from somewhere, right? Connections to Rihanna aside, we can't deny that this show is dope af, and has us all re-binging its twisted plotlines on the regular. If it's not RiRi's next single getting us to jump out of our seats, it's Heisenberg's hardcore drama.

    11 Selena Gomez / 13 Reasons Why

Selena just keeps rocking our little world with her surprising actions since her High School Musical days. Originally intended to star in the movie version, Selena Gomez has taken a serious interest in 13 Reasons Why; a new, controversial series about teen suicide. While she decided to get involved in this story from the beginning, she became executive producer of the flick and helped bring the show to Netflix. Deeply connected to the plot of the book that the show was based off of, Selena has been there for the cast and crew in bringing this modern-day, high school drama to the silver screen. Given her special relationship with the narrative, you can be certain she's got this one queued up to watch between recording singles and appearances on talk shows.

    10 Retta / Gilmore Girls

Former Parks & Recreation star, Retta, might be down-right hilarious as an actress, but she's also hella fly given her interests in our most beloved show, Gilmore Girls. This rebooted series has us all grabbing the Oreos, Red Vines, Pop Tarts, mini powdered doughnuts and Luke's diner coffee to curl up on the couch with, even TV stars like Retta here. Lorelei and Rory's quick-witted banter and arguably selfish lifestyle has the majority of women streaming their dialogue. Add the fact that Melissa McCarthy made a name for herself with this small-town meets big dreams show and it's no mystery why thousands of new Gilmore Girls fans are sprouting up all over the world. We bet Retta was one of the first in line for the promotional “Luke's Pop-Up Diner” coffee.

9 Jessica Simpson / The Vampire Diaries

It's been a long time since Jessica seductively chomped down on that Whopper in her well-known Burger King commercial, but those sexy bites could have been the catalyst towards her insatiable appetite for this supernatural series. Just as she sinks her teeth into that juicy burg, her favourite characters are sinking their fangs into each other. Oh, the connection is uncanny! But how could this sweet singer and fashion designer resist the love triangle between vampires? The sensual nature of the series has us all drooling, and apparently that includes Jessica, as her craving for the next episode is just as deeply-rooted as our own. Between choosing fabrics, styles, and colours for her latests collections of baby clothes and footwear, she'll be eyeing the screen in the background to tune into the drama.

8 Hilary Duff / Stranger Things

While her Lizzy McGuire days are long gone, this goodie-goodie is making some awfully dark selections on her Netflix queue. As creepy as it might be, she's just like every parent who turns into a late-night binge-er once the kiddies go to sleep. Hilary has earned the eerie storyline of parallel universes and child possessions from her daily dose of Peppa Pig or whatever other cartoons her tiny human likes to watch. Maybe it's the pull of the heartstrings from Winona's missing child that hooked Miss Hilary, or the humorous dialogue between the show's adolescents. Hilary may be young at heart, but this show has us all reconnecting to the kid inside of us. Stranger Things reminds us of the days we would lay awake at night thinking of Goosebumps and Tales From The Cryptkeeper. Damn, we all be haunted.

7 Katharine McPhee / Downton Abbey

Katherine has virtually been the epitome of decency and innocence since she first flashed her (almost) winning smile on the American Idol stage. Of course this proper girl would be into the show where prim and proper go to shine. Downtown Abbey follows both history and the British in its storyline: two things that lack any room for drama or lewd behaviour. While Katherine isn't all that pure, rumoured to have kissed another man while married - tsk, tsk - we're seeing the attraction to this acclaimed drama. It's been years that we've all had the McPheever, yet this unattainable Idol runner-up has perked up our interest in her again with her ability to binge a half-dozen episodes like the rest of us.

    6 Jake Johnson / 30 Rock

Laid-back jokester, Jake Johnson, WOULD watch this show. After all, funny is inspired by funny. For Jake to master his comedic timing and joke delivery for New Girl, it's no surprise that he'd be be taking notes from the actors bred from late-night comedy show, SNL. 30 Rock is the comedic gem of a show we all love to binge-watch - and - in excess. As light and quotable as Friends, it's a show that unites us all with hilarious one-liners and shareable memes. Jake is just like all of us working on our night cheese; cramming down pizza in our snuggie while watching TV. Tina Fey and Alec Baldwin's characters are the hilarious duo that - while we hate to say it, Jake - outshines New Girl's Jessica and Nick. But we think you knew this, already.

5 Rachel Leigh Cook / Archer

It's been nearly twenty years since Rachel appeared in She's All That and, you know what? She still is! Because you know what? Only the coolest of chicks are down with Archer and his misogynistic ways. If she can find humour in the narcissism and arrogance of this special agent, then we know that she's got a lightness to her that we may not have known had we taken her for her Josie & the Pussycats role. Rachel binges one of the best adult cartoon shows of this century, and we couldn't be happier. How else would we have gotten to know this girl? She's been MIA, starring in indie films for the past two decades. After all, there's no better way to really get to know a person than through their Netflix queue.

    4 JWoww / Family Guy

Jersey Shore alum, JWoww, somehow has something in common with the rest of the world when it comes to digging the controversial cartoon, Family Guy. Turns out all her clubbing, tanning, talking dirt with Snooki doesn't get in the way of watching Peter's drinking and Quagmire's giggidy-giggidyness. This reality TV star has talked about landing the most mint guy, so maybe this is part of her tactic to land a man; bingeing Family Guy for first date talking points? The most probable scenario is that she's just as entertained by the hilarious antics and the show's shocking - and sometimes dark - sense of humour. Best thing about the show is that there are so many episodes, you can never get tired of its jokes. JWoww probably has it streaming in the background while her friends reunite for “Shot! Shot! Shot!” nights.

3 Katie Aselton / Gossip Girl

This TV actress best known for her appearance in The League knows just what the best solution is to combat the long days spent on set for this testosterone-fueled comedy show. Lots and lots of estrogen. To reconnect with her inner woman, Katie binges the playful and youthful episodes that star Miss Serena van der Woodsen and Blair Waldorf. Nothing like a little back-stabbing, haute couture, and gossip to have you feeling like a girly-girl again. Watching the New York City youths wrestle with poor choices and underage drinking is one of the best guilty pleasure shows out there. And it makes for the most excellent escape from reality, as these privileged friends have no idea how the world works. If any celebrity deserved to binge this sparkly, drama-filled, chick show, it's Katie.

    2 Alec Baldwin / Making A Murderer

Donald Trump's doppelgänger and SNL veteran, Alec Baldwin, can't ALL be about getting the laughs. His career has always circled around the vessel that is comedy, but Alec likes to periodically abandon ship to enjoy a much-needed time out from all the jokes. And what escape is better than turning to a real-life crime drama? While the whole world binged the crap out of this Netflix-exclusive documentary, Alec was curled up like the rest of us with his laptop, anxiously ending the countdown between episodes with the click of his finger. Making A Murderer had us all talking about whether the man was guilty or not. I wonder what Alec's theories were? We're relating hard to this Beetlejuice actor because of this glorious movie and series streaming platform.

    1  Michelle Obama / Scandal

Olivia Pope is the biggest political influence in Washington, as well as the most fictional. It's no wonder why Michelle loves watching the White House-centred drama conceived by Shonda Rhimes. Miss Pope may be in the Oval Office and the President's bed on screen, but Michelle has lived out that plot. Is anyone surprised that the former First Lady is just has hooked as the rest of us on this powerful, shocking, and very loose portrayal on American politics? She knows exactly what goes on behind the scenes and between the sheets of the President of the United States, so this weekly show must be entertaining on a whole other level for Mrs. Obama. On one hand, we curse the fact that Netflix hasn't released the latest season's in a binge-worthy chunk. But on the other hand, we're super pumped we get to keep up with the dramatics with Michelle.
