15 Worst TV Character Couples Ever
Love makes the world go round and that's definitely true of your favorite television shows as well. You love shipping your fave couples and dreaming about how totally romantic everything could be. After all, you're watching a TV show, not real life, so this is definitely the place for some wish fulfillment. No matter what's going on in your life (romantic or otherwise), you can count on watching these amazing couples week after week (or in a binge-watching situation). It's just something that you can always count on and fall back on and that's pretty great. So what do you do when you realize that you hate the characters that have gotten together on your fave shows? It's a pretty miserable experience, that's for sure. Sometimes you can't get over it, even months or years after the fact. No, you're not being overly dramatic. You're being completely normal.
Here are 15 of the worst TV character couples ever.
15 Rory And Logan On 'Gilmore Girls'
Does anyone love Rory and Logan together? It was a real shame for fans of Jess (or, okay, Dean, although if you're a true Gilmore Girls fan, you are a Jess person all the way) to see Logan get so much screen time in the Netflix revival. Like, come on. Jess is the one who needs to have the most time with Rory, not Logan. You never liked Logan the first time around because, let's face it, he's such a rich snob who only wants to do whatever he wants to do. He has serious family issues and he never seems to grow up or even want to. As you saw from the latest four movie-length episodes, he's still as immature as ever. After all, he's engaged to another woman while sleeping with Rory… and he won't even admit that he's still in love with her and would rather marry her instead? Ridiculous. You just don't get this couple.
14 Callie And George On 'Grey's Anatomy'
Does anyone even remember when Callie and George dated on the hospital drama? It's kind of impossible to recall since that feels like a billion years ago. After all, neither character is even on the show anymore. It was all kinds of awkward when these two originally got together. No one thought that this was a good idea. In the second date, they embarked on a relationship and in the third season, they got married. In Las Vegas. Because that always is a really, really good idea. Of course, in the fourth season, it's super clear that they shouldn't be together so they separate. What you probably do remember is that Izzy and George realized that they had super strong feelings for each other and that was the impetus behind George and Callie breaking up. Once you realized that Callie is meant to be with Arizona (which you totally still believe even though they're sadly apart), it became even more clear that the whole George thing was a bad idea.
13 Izzy And George On 'Grey's Anatomy'
Of course, George and Izzy had pretty much the worst chemistry ever, and so they are definitely another horrible TV couple that needs to be on this list. After all, the first time they try to sleep together, it is insanely awkward and nothing even happens. You were definitely cringing as a loyal fan and you are probably still cringing today thinking back on this scene. They really had no reason to be together. Sure, sometimes you end up dating one of your best guy friends, and that totally works since you had that bond and connection. It can be great to have a foundation of friendship. But other times, you are really just meant to be friends with this person and there should be nothing romantic between you at all. It seemed like Izzy was trying to convince herself that she could make things work with George while she really knew the truth.
12 Chandler And Janice On 'Friends'
OMG. You are annoyed just thinking about this, right? Of course, everyone was totally annoyed by Janice because, well, she is annoying. That is the entire point of her character, and sure, it is pretty funny. But she was still the worst girlfriend ever for Chandler. She just seemed so clingy and like the worst stereotype of a girlfriend. Once you saw Chandler and Monica together, you realized that these two were totally meant to be together and that they had the chemistry and magic that was missing between him and Janice. After all, did it ever seem like Chandler even liked Janice? Definitely not. It was like he forced himself to date her… and it was almost like he thought that he did not deserve to date someone who was a better match for him. Yeah, you definitely do not look back fondly on the whole Chandler and Janice chapter.
11 Jerry And Elaine On 'Seinfeld'
This is a funny situation since there was some pressure from the network to get Jerry and Elaine together. Creators Jerry Seinfeld and Larry David apparently were not super into that idea since they did not want to buy into typical and traditional sitcom plot lines. The idea was that the two of them had been in a relationship for three years before the show even started, but they were able to stay friends. In a second season episode called "The Deal" they sleep together and decide that it is not going to mean anything. You can't even wrap your head around them sleeping together even once, let alone being together for several years. They just do not seem well-suited. They are too good of friends and they are almost too similar since they see the humor in everything and are kind of immature in certain ways and certain situations. Opposites attract, right?
10 Lorelai And Jason On 'Gilmore Girls'
You are probably in the Luke/Lorelai camp and maybe you even think that she could have also ended up with Christopher because they at least had some fun together and some real chemistry. But you can probably agree that Lorelai should never have dated Jason. Remember the first time she stays over at his place? He says that she has to sleep in another room, aka his guest room, because he can't sleep with someone else in the room or even in the bed. Um, okay. She should have totally run away right there because that just proves that he is not ready for a mature, adult relationship and that he has no sense of emotional intimacy at all. How could he possibly think that he could date someone and not sleep in the same bed as them?! You're still annoyed all these years later. At least she ended up with Luke. Phew.
9 Sawyer And Kate On 'LOST'
Can you even call Sawyer and Kate a couple? Technically, they were an almost couple. Kate is always totally conflicted between Sawyer and Jack since she is definitely attracted to each of them. In a later season, Sawyer dates Juliet since they bond when they travel back in time and live in that weird community on the island. Pretty trippy. You never thought that Kate should pick Sawyer because it was really just all about attraction and sleeping together. Sure, you are not against that. But you really wanted her to be with Jack when you watched this show the first time around and if you ever re-watch any episodes, you still believe that they are truly meant to be. It just does not seem like Kate really gets Sawyer. Besides, he is so adorable with Juliet. They are totally made for each other and you are sticking by that.
8 Veronica And Duncan On 'Veronica Mars'
True fans of this lovely show know that if Veronica is going to be with anyone, it's going to be Logan. Logan is basically perfect for her. It's ridiculous that Duncan dumps Veronica in the first season, especially considering that she's mourning the loss of her BFF Lilly and his very own sister. Sure, the two of them get back together in the second season after it's made clear that he thought that they were actually related… but it never really felt like they should be a couple. It just didn't. Veronica has always had amazing chemistry and romantic tension with Logan and that's even more clear when a love triangle becomes one of the many plot points on this well-crafted show. Thankfully, everything was okay once again with the show since Logan and Veronica ended up together. You were super relieved, right?
7 Sarah And Mark On 'Parenthood'
Once you got over thinking that Lauren Graham's character on Parenthood was still basically Lorelai (and yeah, it took you a lot longer than it probably should have), you learned to call her Sarah. And you started thinking about who she should end up with. When she dated Mark, you had to admit that they were super cute together. He was Amber's English teacher and a super smart, sweet, decent guy. They even got engaged in the fourth season and everything seemed to be fine… until she met Hank, the brilliant photographer who she just could not shake. That made you believe that Sarah and Mark were a terrible couple. Because when you see something better you forget about what your fave character was doing before this very moment! Being cute together does not mean that you are truly meant to be. Sarah had a special thing going with Hank and thankfully, they figure out their problems and end up together.
6 Will And Layla On 'Nashville'
It pains you to think about this couple as being such a horrible one because let's face it, these are too really, really pretty people. They looked awesome together. But of course, Will was hiding his true self and just pretending to love Layla. He was going through the motions and that's never a good idea. For that reason, you have to say that Will and Layla are one of the worst TV character couples ever. It definitely wasn't a great relationship for Layla either because she wasn't being loved the way that she deserves (on that note, you're super sad that she's not part of the show anymore, but that's another story). Whether you loved or hated Jeff (probably hated but come on, he was so hot), you have to admit that he really cared about Layla and that was a much healthier relationship for her. It was devastating when he tragically passed away and just proved that she never really loved Will the way that she should have and he didn't love her either.
5 Rayna And Luke On 'Nashville'
All you can say is thank goodness Rayna and Deacon are together, married, and happy. You just could not handle when Rayna and Luke were together. This was a classic case of a couple looking perfect on paper but really having no magic or chemistry whatsoever. Sure, they are both famous country music singers, and sure, they can relate to each other on that level. They have similarly crazy busy schedules and all that. But something was missing and that was a real love story. You could tell in every single scene that they were not meant to be together. It was really, really sad that she was not with Deacon because you just knew that they were destined from the very beginning to live happily ever after. Thankfully, Rayna totally knew it too and did not end up marrying Luke after all. You definitely breathed a massive sigh of relief.
4 Jason And Lyla On 'Friday Night Lights'
Ugh is all you can say about these two. What, the star football player and the cheerleader in a small town are supposed to be together? What a concept. You have to admit that they were a sweet couple, but from the very first few episodes, it was totally clear that she was pressuring Jason way too much about their future. She wanted everything to be as perfect as possible and she had grand plans for them. She was definitely buying into the whole getting married young and buying a house and raising kids with a white picket fence thing. It was her dream but it was shattered pretty fast as soon as Jason gets tragically injured. You probably wish that Lyla and Tim would get together, but as you know, he realized that it was best to try to move on since she moved away from Dillon to go to college. Lyla is definitely meant for bigger things and that means not being with either Jason or Tim (as much as it pains you to admit).
3 Tim And Tyra On 'Friday Night Lights'
On that note, you really hate watching Tim and Tyra in the first season of this glorious football drama. You love this show but come on. Tim treats her so badly, you can't even handle it. He just doesn't care about her at all and it seems like he's only using her for all the obvious reasons. It's so hard to watch this as a girl because of course you have experienced that at least once in your life and it's pretty much the worst. Of course, you totally understand that this is the entire point since Tim starts the show as a real jerk and loser and he ends the series as a changed man who is a lot more mature and emotional. But it still is really difficult to watch him treat Tyra terribly, especially since you know that she is a good girl and deserves so much more than she is getting.
2 Bonnie And Asher On 'How To Get Away With Murder'
You just don't think that these two are a good idea. Asher is way too emotionally and mentally immature for Bonnie, and she has her own demons from her past as is becoming more and more obvious with each episode that airs. It was super surprising when these two first hooked up and while he may be hooking up with Michaela now (or maybe not since that always seems to be changing), you still think of Bonnie and Asher as a truly horrible TV character couple. You just don't like Asher that much because he reminds you of so many guys that you've known in your life. He's just so immature (he's so immature that it needs to be said more than once) and you're not sure that he can ever really date anyone until he works on himself first. Of course, that doesn't seem like it's going to happen anytime soon, especially given the show that he's on and the crazy situations that he always finds himself in.
1 Caleb And Spencer On 'Pretty Little Liars'
You are really conflicted about this and that's exactly why it tops the list. You are all about Caleb and Hanna. You have to be. It's pretty much a requirement for watching this teen show. At first, you totally hated the idea of Caleb and Spencer dating. It was a massive betrayal since it seemed like he was always meant to be with Hanna. They were just the best couple ever. But then… well, you have to admit, you kind of warmed up to the idea. At the end of the day, however, you totally believe that Caleb is meant to be with Hanna and Spencer is meant to be with Toby. That's the way that the series absolutely has to end when the final episodes of the seventh season air this April. Caleb and Spencer can never really be a thing since they both feel super guilty about who they are hurting and who they should actually be with. PLL writers, are you listening?!
