Then And Now 16 Comparisons Of The Pretty Little Liars Cast

After a long, long run, Pretty Little Liars is officially over. That's right, every “A” has been revealed and all your favorite liars have gotten their own happy endings. Hooray for Hanna being pregnant. Hooray for Aria and Ezra finally getting married. Hooray for Emily and Ali getting engaged. Hooray for Spencer… err… finding out she has an evil twin? Hey, I never said the plot twists were game changing, but they were fun.

Pretty Little Liars was soap opera level drama all set in a high school. It was addicting for many reasons. One of the best parts of the show, though, was watching the actresses evolve and change throughout the seasons. I mean, this is a show that premiered in 2010 and ended in 2017. We've been with these actresses for seven long years, during which time they literally grew up on screen. Troian Bellisario (Spencer Hastings), Ashley Benson (Hanna Marin), Lucy Hale (Aria Montgomery), and Shay Mitchell (Emily Fields) were all in their early twenties when the show premiered. Now, the women are all in their late twenties and early thirties. Just THINK about how much your style changes in those important years. (I'm personally cringing right now thinking about all the times I wore leggings as pants in my early twenties. Oh, if I only knew.)

Below, we have photos of the Pretty Little Liars cast from all the way back in season 1 and at the end of the run. They have all changed. A lot. By hey, maybe it'll make you feel better about wearing leggings as pants.

16 Then: Troian Bellisario (Spencer Hastings)

Physically, Troian Bellisario pretty much looks the same, which is to say she is still model-esque. At 5'7”, Bellisario has basically always been tall and thin. That is not to say she hasn't struggled with image issues like the rest of us. In fact, Bellisario had admitted to struggling with an eating disorder and self-harm in her younger years.

“Honestly, it's an ongoing struggle,” Bellisario said to Seventeen. “Especially for a woman on a show that has the word 'pretty' in it! Sometimes I feel like I'm trying too hard, like I don't belong. I just look around at Lucy, Shay and Ashley and I'm just like, 'Why am I on this show?' Sometimes I've felt like a fraud. Like, I'm not like these other girls-I don't dress like that and I don't know how to do my hair. The minute I'm off that stage, I try to get as 'me' as possible. I do that by piling on my black eyeliner, and I put on my ripped tights. Dressing like myself again helps.”

The amount of pressure Bellisario puts on herself kind of makes her sound like a real life Spencer Hastings, right?

15 Now: Troian Bellisario (Spencer Hastings)

Like I said, Troian Bellisario is still thin and tall, with glossy brunette hair. Pretty much the same. But, she has experimented with her style throughout her time on Pretty Little Liars. In the above photo, Bellisario is rocking some bangs. By the way, does anyone else get really jealous of how great bangs look on celebrities and, y'know, what they look like on us normal people in real life? #Bangenvy.

The biggest change to Bellisario's personal look is that she's more playful with makeup. In her younger years, Bellisario looked completely natural. However, she now embraces some natural looking makeup - glowy cheeks, berry lips, bolder brows. This style of makeup compliments her natural beauty quite well. It's rare that we see Bellisario with makeup any bolder than this look.

Well, one thing remained consistent: Spencer loves to rock a good jacket.

Overall, Troian Bellisario and her Spencer Hastings didn't change their looks too much. Spencer remained preppy and polished in her looks, just maturing throughout the seasons. Bellisario remained consistent in her makeup and grooming. Well, it's working for both of them.

14 Then: Keegan Allen (Toby Cavanaugh)

Hopping over to Spencer Hastings' bae, we now have Keegan Allen, who played Toby Cavanaugh. Um, Keegan Allen probably had more of a transformation during Pretty Little Liars' run than Troian Bellisario, right? I mean, LOOK at his before picture. LOOK AT IT! I can hardly even remember Toby looking like this, but alas he did.

When Allen was introduced on the show has Toby Cavanaugh, he has a luscious hair of head that was like, a lot. Like, too much maybe. He also still had a more boyish face, as he was rocking fuller cheeks at this time. Two things has remained consistent, though - Allen also had his light, light eyes and a bomb bod.

Though, I had to admit that his “after” picture is very much improved.

13 Now: Keegan Allen (Toby Cavanaugh)

OH, HELLO. Keegan Allen's after is, like, much improved, right? His baby boy face of the before is gone. In its place are chiseled cheeks that not even the best contouring could achieve. Like, I'm serious. Where did Allen get these cheekbones? I'm totally jealous.

Allen's more defined cheeks even make his prominent chin look like something all the earlier Disney princes had, right? The uniform doesn't hurt either.

Ah, Keegan Allen. Your before and after is a thing of beauty. The hair is better and he's grown into his looks. Honestly, it's impressive for a guy to have such major before and after pictures because it's without the help of major makeup or style. It's just, like, growing up.

12 Then: Ashley Benson (Hanna Marin)

Ashley Benson's Hanna Marin was a fan favorite. Well, actually all the liars were pretty fan favorites, but people specifically connected with Hanna in the early seasons, as she was desperate to fit in. Guys, remember all the way back? Hanna was a mean girl who was really just trying to fit in at school. It was a very different world.

In terms of both Ashley Benson and Hanna Marin's before and after photos, the biggest changes come in the form of wardrobe, as both grew into more stylish and less trendy clothing. Physically, Benson is pretty much the same: blonde hair, glowy skin, and makeup that highlights her blue eyes. Hey, when it works, it works.

Even though Hanna Marin gets much more chic as the series goes on, this mean girl version of Hanna is giving me some feels. I might have to re-binge season one.

11 Now: Ashley Benson (Hanna Marin)

Though Hanna Marin ends the series looking physically similar to her season one self, she did go through some phases. Like, remember when she had all this black in her hair? There was also her grungy phase, during which I'm pretty sure she stole some clothes from season one Aria.

Ashley Benson, on the other hand, never end through a grungy look publicly. Her evolution has been from looking trendy and sexy to looking stylish and mature. This AH-MAZING low-cut suit combo is a great example of her style. It's not overtly sexy, and it's also not boring. It hits the mark.

Her makeup stays consistent, in that she focuses on her eyes with smoky shadow.

Guys, season one Hanna with ice cream! Oh, remember the days when Hanna had a cupcake problem? Good times, well for everyone but Hanna.

While much of Hanna Marin's style stayed the same, she definitely matured her look through bringing everything to a more subtle level. No more glossy lips, structured curls, and overly lined eyes. It seems like Hanna's biggest change is making her makeup routine compliment her nature beauty. Well, that and the clothes.

10 Then: Tyler Blackburn (Caleb Rivers)

Be still my heart, it's Tyler Blackburn. Tyler Blackburn played Caleb Rivers. He was introduced as the bad boy (with a good heart) who hit it off with Hanna. Obviously, Team Caleb and Hanna, right? Well, I'm really Team Caleb and Me, but that's another issue.

Anyway, this is what Tyler Blackburn looked like when he made his debut on Pretty Little Liars. To be honest, the guy transformations are KILLING me. Who knew they would be the ones who majorly evolved during their time on the show? Yes, remember the days when ol' Caleb Rivers used to just be the hacker bad boy with long hair? I am getting feelings!

It wasn't until around season five that Caleb River got a haircut, which brings us to the after picture…

9 Now: Tyler Blackburn (Caleb Rivers)

Is anyone else very, very into Tyler Blackburn/Caleb River's after picture? He is a fox, guys. Thank you for cutting your glorious hair that was covering up your even more glorious face, Tyler. Nothing against his hair, but there should simply be nothing covering up his hot face.

    Oh, Hanna, you lucky girl.

Sorry, I actually can't even write about Tyler Blackburn's transformation right now, because OH MY GOD.

Alright, I've composed myself. In the before and after photos, Tyler Blackburn/Caleb River's biggest change is to his hair, which makes sense. As Caleb got less bad boy, he became more clean cut. He also wore 1000% less beanies. There was a point that Caleb and Hanna loved beanies a little too much. No one should own that many beanies, not even Caleb Rivers.

Again, goodbye beanies and long hair. Hello, handsome face.

Oh, and this is just an extra picture of Tyler Blackburn and Ashley Benson at this year's Paley Fest. Can they get married in real life already? And if not, can Tyler Blackburn marry me? Not too much to ask, I feel.

8 Then: Shay Mitchell (Emily Fields)

Shay Mitchell had a real transformation oo-screen, guys. Of the main liars, she may actually take the award for the biggest transformation.

But here is Shay Mitchell onscreen playing Emily Fields in season one. Emily was the jock character, so she generally sportier clothes and was less glam than the other girls on the show. As her character evolved, Emily's hair and makeup would be slightly more glam, but her wardrobe always remained simple. I mean, no offense but when has anyone ever lusted after an Emily outfit? Never happened.

Shay Mitchell was perfect for the role of Emily, as she's a complete natural beauty. Her hair and skin are glorious. While Emily didn't go through too much of a transformation on the show, the after picture of Shay Mitchell is WOWZA. Girlfriend is the most glam off-screen.

7 Now: Shay Mitchell (Emily Fields)

Like I said, Shay Mitchell is a glam queen. In this photo, Shay Mitchell is obviously not playing Emily Fields, because I'm pretty sure Emily Fields never wore this much makeup in her entire life. In fact, Mitchell is so glam that she actually uses Kim Kardashian's go-to makeup artist, Mario Dedivanovic.

Again, Emily Fields would never, but this is Shay Mitchell's style. She's comfortable rocking some bold makeup looks. SLAY, Shay!

Okay, but is Shay Mitchell an actual perfect human being, right? Mitchell's enviable looks on and off screen helped her land a sponsorship position with Biore, which she posts about frequently on her social media accounts.

Alright, back to Emily Fields. Emily will never, never, never be as glam as real life Shay Mitchell, but that's cool. That's not Emily's thing. She evolved her beauty looks but styling and dying her hair. She also, like Hanna, ditched the lip gloss. But, I'm pretty sure we all left the lip gloss in 2010.

One noticeable change in Shay Mitchell/Emily Fields' look is her brows. She opted for bigger, bolder brows. Shay may have grown them out throughout the years, or this could have been achieve via the aid of some brow color. Either way, her brows looked even better as the seasons went on.

6 Then: Sasha Pieterse (Alison DiLaurentis)

Is that such a typical season one Alison's face or what?

Sasha Pieterse played Alison DiLaurentis on Pretty Little Liars. Alison was first introduced through flashbacks, as she was believed to be dead. She returned to Rosewood in season five, when the police discover she's actually alive. So many twists and turns, y'all!

What's interesting about Sasha Pieterse playing Alison DiLaurentis is that she was only 14 years old when she was cast in the role. Yes, while all the other girls were in their early twenties, Pieterse was barely even a teenager. And yet, she was playing the most devious character of them all. Even now, Pieterse is only 21 years old, making her younger than both Shay Mitchell and Troian Bellisario were when Pretty Little Liars began.

5 Now: Sasha Pieterse (Alison DiLaurentis)

To be honest, Sasha Pieterse's off-screen transformation has been hit and miss, but that's okay. Again, Sasha Pieterse is really young. She's only 21! Her transformation is still happening before our eyes. On that note though, Pieterse's curvier than the other girls on the show and this dress isn't the most flattering, especially considering the fact that you can see her bra through it. Having her hair slicked back isn't flattering her features either. Season one Alison would not approve.

This look is much more flattering to Sasha Pieterse. She's rocking from Marilyn Monroe vibes, with her blonde bombshell waves. The subtle, but complimentary makeup is perfect for her face.

In terms of Alison DiLaurentis' transformation, there are obvious differences. When we first saw Alison, she was the reigning Regina George of the show, so she had to be the hot girl. She was trendy and your idealistic looking teenage girl.

In the later seasons, Alison forewent trends for a more Emily way of dressing.

When we last see Alison, her and Emily are the mothers of twins, y'know because A put Emily's eggs in Allison's body before impregnating her as one does. Because of this change - and also the change in her personality - Alison's look was more low-key. The trendy clothes and primping were gone. Instead, her wardrobe is your everyday clothing and her hair and makeup required the minimum amount of effort. But also, Alison kind of looks even better with less makeup and glam, right?

4 Then: Ian Harding (Ezra Fitz)

Ian Harding played the stud Ezra Fitz. Though, I'm not sure if Ezra Fitz, the sensitive teacher who had a thing for underage girls, was necessarily a “stud.” But, Ian Harding played Ezra Fitz, and Ian Harding is a stud. I mean, look at those eyes, that jaw, the subtle stubble. Total stud.

Throughout his time on the show, Ezra Fitz and Aria Montgomery were in a relationship, y'know off and on, as all the relationships on Pretty Little Liars were. To be honest, the before and after pictures of Ian Harding/Ezra Fitz aren't that crazy. He pretty much still looks the same - no new hair, clothes, eyebrows. He's just a hunk, with maybe a few more lines on his face, but they just add character.

3 Now: Ian Harding (Ezra Fitz)

Like I said, this guy pretty much looks the same, but there's a few new lines on his face. (You see them, right? Near his eyes?) Of course, the new lines could also just be the way he's smiling.

To be honest, Ian Harding looks even hotter now that he's grown out of that whole baby face thing.

These side-by-side before and after picture really highlight the fact that Ian Harding's face has changed, but in a good way. Bye, baby fat! Hello, cheekbones and a jaw line!

Harding's hair is also less unkempt than it was in season one. Seriously, what was up with the guys' hair in the early seasons? It was not good.

Guys, I'm actually all about Ian Harding's new wrinkles.

By the way, Harding looks so young when he was introduced as Ezra Fitz because he was only 23 years old when he got the role. Yep, he was basically the age of all the girls cast as the liars. I guess that helped make his Aria relationship less creep. Can't really blame Aria, though. I mean, if you had a teacher who looked like Ezra Fitz, what would you do?

2 Then: Lucy Hale (Aria Montgomery)

Last but not least, we have Lucy Hale as Aria Montgomery. And yes, she used to rock pink highlights in her portrayal of Aria, y'know because she was full of angst. She also opted for darker eye makeup, again because she was full of angst.

Style-wise, well I could do a whole article about Aria's style because she went through a transformation. Aria was supposed to be the artistic friend, who had a lot of emotions. It's clear that she thought of her wardrobe as a release for her creative energy, because her wardrobe was… uh… creative in its own way. In the later seasons, her wardrobe stopped being so all over the place, and started to take on a more mature look.

Throughout her time on the show, Lucy Hale/Aria Montgomery changed her hair and makeup. RIP, pink highlights. You'll never be forgotten.

1 Now: Lucy Hale (Aria Montgomery)

In the later seasons, Aria's edginess came out in a much chicer way. No more combat boots. Her clothing, makeup and hair were less like teenage-girl-trying-too-hard and more cool-stylish-adult.

Off-screen, Lucy Hale's style is actually very similar to Aria Montgomery's style. In fact, they may be the most similar off-screen of all the girls and their counterparts.

Through the years, Lucy has moved away from trendy and towards stylish. Much like Ashley Benson's off-screen transformation, it's been about looking more sleek and adult.

Also, Lucy Hale's skin has somehow transformed into the most beautiful skin ever. I want to know every single product she uses, thanks.

Back to Lucy Hale's Aria Montgomery. This is 100% older Aria. Yes, she's still into patterns and dressing in an interesting way, but she's no longer… uh… learning how to dress. She's now knows how to dress herself and not get pink highlights.

In the side-by-side photos, it's clear to see that Lucy Hale's biggest beauty change was chopping off her hair. This helped transform Aria from a high school girl into a mature adult. You know, that and ditching the pink highlights. (Okay, I'll stop bringing up the pink highlights now.)

These before and after photos of Aria also make it clear that her makeup game has changed. Instead of doing as much eye makeup in the later seasons, they opted to highlight Lucy's gorgeous brows.

This one isn't really a before and after. Instead, can we all just be the most happy ever that Ezra and Aria GOT MARRIED. YAS!!!

Okay, now we all need a new teen drama to fill that Pretty Little Liars shaped hole in our lives. Riverdale?
