12 Celebs Who Got Married Before They Could Legally Drink

Awh. Young love. We've all been there. We think that the first person we fall in love with is the person we're going to be with forever. And while that does happen, usually we find it's better to wait a bit before we tie-the-knot. Well, ladies and gentleman, celebrities are no different. While we love a good Hollywood romance (who doesn't), a few of them happened a bit earlier than expected- and by earlier, we mean before the celebs were even legally allowed to drink. Better yet, some of them even happened before the celebrities were considered legal adults. But hey, what good is romance without the scandal? While many celebs have tried to brush their first romances under the rug, we wanted to take a nice little walk down memory lane. Read below to find out twelve celebrities who got married before they were of legal drinking age.

12 Olivia Wilde

You might know her as Marissa's bada** girlfriend from the O.C. or simply as the talented film actress, but did you know that in 2003, at just nineteen years old, Wilde married Tao Ruspoli? Because he was the son of an Italian prince, one may think of the marriage as fairy-taleesque (despite the fact that they got married on a school bus). However, Wilde felt a bit differently. Although Ruspoli is thirteen years her senior, Wilde said in various interviews that the marriage stunted her growth and held her back. The couple divorced in 2011 and now Wilde is now happily engaged to actor Jason Sudeikis.

11 Drew Barrymore

Nowadays, Barrymore is a seemingly normal mother of two, but back in the day, Barrymore was quite the wild child. At age sixteen, Barrymore got engaged to Leland Hayward, the Grandson of a famous Hollywood producer. However, the couple called it quits before they got married. When she was eighteen,  a similar situation occurred with Jamie Walters, a rising TV star. They too called it quits before they walked down the aisle. Still, that didn't stop Barrymore from getting married before age twenty one. At age twenty, Barrymore married Jeremy Thomas, a bartender. This relationship was short lived and two months later, the couple divorced.

10 Demi Moore

We all heard about Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher's divorce a few years back as well as Moore's divorce from Bruce Willis over a decade ago- but often times, we forget about her first marriage. When Demi was only sixteen years old, she met and fell in love with Freddy Moore (Yes, that's how she came to be known as Demi Moore). Freddy was thirty years old at the time and already married. However, that didn't stop the pair. When Freddy's divorce was finalized a year after meeting Demi, the pair got married. After five years of marriage, the couple called it quits citing, "irreconcilable differences."

9 Milla Jovovich

Remember Milla Jovovich in Dazed and Confused (and a plethora of other films since then)? Remember Sean Andrews in Dazed and Confused? Well, they got married during the filming of the movie. That's right. When Milla Jovovich was only 16 and Sean Andrews was only 21, the couple eloped in Las Vegas, Nevada. Although seemingly romantic, the marriage only lasted a couple of months before they split. Apparently Milla's mother wasn't very happy about the relationship as she eventually had the marriage annulled.

8 Melanie Griffith

Film actress Melanie Griffith married Don Johnson when she was only eighteen years old. How did they meet? Don was filming a movie with Melanie's mother. What's more surprising is the two started dating when Don Johnson was twenty two and Melanie was only fourteen. After getting married in 1976, the couple divorced after six months. Still, the romance wasn't over. In 1989, they married again. This time, they had a child together. Unfortunately, though, they got divorced seven years later.

7 Kim Kardashian

We've known her as the girl in the scandalous tape with Ray J, we've been with her through her divorce from Kris Humphries, and we've watched her expand her empire with Kanye West. What we forget, though, is that Kim Kardashian married music producer Damon Thomas when she was only nineteen years old. That's right- the two eloped in 2000. In 2004, Thomas divorced Kim Kardashian and since then, hasn't made off quite as well as the bodacious reality star. Just last year, Thomas filed for bankruptcy claiming he has close to 3.6 million dollars in debt.

6 Macaulay Culkin

You may know him as the adorable boy in all the Home Alone movies or as a budding child star that turned into a troubled adult- but did you know he got married when he was just eighteen years old? In 1998, Macaulay Culkin married Rachel Milner. Rachel Milner is also an actress known for her roles in Californication and Sex and the City. Like Culkin, Milner was just eighteen years old when the two got married. Unfortunately, the pair only stayed together for two years, separating in 2000, and eventually divorcing in 2002.

5 Bo Derek

Bo Derek, born Mary Cathleen Collins, is an American actress, model, and producer. She's most famous, however, for her marriage to John Derek, an actor, director, and photographer. The pair started dating when Bo was sixteen. Because Derek was thirty years her senior, they moved to Europe to avoid California's laws. In 1976, when Bo was twenty years old, they moved back to the states and married. Despite skepticism about their relationship and age difference, the couple was married for twenty two years until John passed away in 1990.

4 Marilyn Monroe

That's right. One of America's first sex symbols and highest grossing actresses married James Dougherty, a policeman and merchant marine, when she was just sixteen years old. Dougherty, at the time, was twenty one years old. Some biographers wonder if the marriage was arranged by Monroe's mother's friend (and caretaker) or if it was Marilyn's choice. Later, when Monroe spoke of her marriage, she said she rarely spoke to her husband because they had very little in common. Monroe didn't like being a housewife and found herself constantly bored. In 1946, the couple divorced.

3 Elizabeth Taylor

Elizabeth Taylor, who is perhaps just as famous for her rocky relationships than she is for her body of work, married for the first time when she was only eighteen years old. Who did she marry? Twenty three year old Conrad Hilton. That's right, the hotel chain heir and blooming actress married in May of 1950 in Los Angeles, CA at a lavish wedding held at the Bel- Air Country Club. In her biography, Taylor states that the marriage, like the honeymoon, lasted only two weeks. Apparently, Hilton had a drinking problem and shortly after they returned from their honeymoon in Europe, Taylor filed for divorce.

2 LeAnn Rimes

Everyone loves a good LeAnn Rimes song. The talented singer/songwriter got married to one of her background dancers, Dean Sheremet, when she was only twenty years old. Sheremet and Rimes met when he was cast as a background dancer in 2001 for Rimes' hosting of the Academy of Country- Music Awards. The couple stayed together until 2009, then finally divorced in 2010. Rimes cheated on Dean with actor Eddie Cibrian. Rimes said in a statement that she apologizes for hurting Dean, but doesn't regret the outcome of her decisions.

Like Marilyn Monroe, Gardner was one of the first (and most remarkable) sex symbols on the silver screen. This is why it's not surprising that her list of suitors ranges from Frank Sinatra, to Clark Gable, and even Ernest Hemingway. Her first marriage, however, occurred when she was just nineteen years old to actor Mickey Rooney. Although the marriage lasted only a year and Gardner has called her marriage to Rooney "the biggest mistake of her life," Gardner credits Rooney for teaching her how much she loved being intimate.
