15 Biggest Celebrity Bust Ups Of 2016
Is there anything more intriguing than watching a celebrity feud? We can sit back, grab our popcorn, and view some of the world's most recognizable stars battle it out. When they fight over social media because this feels like a front row seat for us mere mortals. There are the usual offenders - Kanye West, Kim Kardashian, Nicki Minaj, Mariah Carey, etc, who just can't seem to get through the year without battling it out with at least on person.
But just what is it about celebrities attacking each other so publicly that entertains us all? Psychologist Gemma Cribb from Equilibrium Psychology told Grazia magazine, "These people make a living being 'perfect'. And it is the human condition to delight in hearing how on some levels, these extraordinary people disrupt this flawless image and experience the same thing we do."
Unfortunately for celebrities we always remember a good scandal. Cribb explained, "Negative experiences are always more memorable than positive because of the way our brain is wire." So here are some of the most memorable celebrity feuds of 2016 that we will all remember for many years to come.
15 Blac Chyna vs. The Kardashians
2016 has been quite the year for the Kardashian sisters and Blac Chyna, with this ongoing feuding not dying down anytime soon. At the beginning of the year, Rob Kardashian started dating Chyna, and the sisters hated this as they were convinced that Chyna was trying to muscle in on their own fame. Then Chyna got pregnant and as a kid was now involved - they all decided to call a truce.
That was until just days after Chyna gave birth to her and Rob's daughter, Dream Kardashian, the sisters slapped a lawsuit on her. Chyna planned to trademark her name after she married - Angela Renee Kardashian - but the Kardashian's legal team simply said no. Chyna's lawyers argued that the lawsuit had come as a 'shock' and added, "It's actually her name, it's not a poaching." The case continues.
14 Drake vs. Meek Mill
It all started with a single tweet. Last year, Meek Mill wrote: "Stop comparing Drake to me too… He don't write his own raps! That's why he ain't tweet my album because we found out!" Then things got even bitterer between the two as Meek Mill started dating Nicki Minaj. Drake previously claimed he wanted to marry Minaj, but she didn't return any of his compliments as she claimed he "tears through women like Hurricane Matthew."
Drake then responded by penning his own diss track aimed at Meek Mill titled Back To Back. He raps about Meek Mill being the supporting act on Nicki Minaj's Pinkprint tour saying: "Is that a world tour or your girl's tour? I know that you gotta be a thug for her. This ain't what she meant when she told you to open up more." We are going to say Drake won this battle.
13 Kanye vs. Jay-Z
More rap beef this year came from former best buddies, Kanye West and rap mogul Jay-Z. Before he was hospitalized late this year, Kanye went on stage during his Life of Pablo Tour and told the audience at KeyArena in Seattle some home truths.
Referencing Jay-Z's reaction after Kim Kardashian's robbery, he yelled out, "Don't call me, after the robbery, and say, 'How you feelin'?' You wanna know how I'm feelin'? Come by the house." Kanye also claimed that their daughters - 3-year-old North West and 4-year-old Blue Ivy Carter - have never met or had a play date together.
Closed friend to the pair, rapper Jeezy, told The Real, "They're brothers. You gotta let brothers work out brotherly stuff. They got history together, let 'em handle it, they grown men. They gon' fix it, they gon' work it out."
12 Nicki Minaj vs. Farrah Abraham
Not one to ever mince her words, Nicki Minaj kick-started the year with a back-and-forth Twitter fight with reality TV personality Farrah Abraham. Minaj wrote about the Teen Mom star: "Farrah is a c*** to her mother." She also added a reference to Farrah's adult movie star past as she wrote: "She was like b***h go do some p*** & leave gramma alone."
Farrah then tweeted back: "Cause your a parent right?" Which prompted Minaj to fire back with: "Your mother didn't open her legs and have that child. Be happy she's helping! Stop talking to her like that on TV." Farrah then told Minaj that her music videos look like adult entertainment, before advising that she should stop watching re-runs on TV and go to church.
11 Kendall Jenner & Gigi Hadid vs Stephanie Seymour
2016 was a big year for Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid as the pair moved graced the covers of Vogue magazine, walked in the Victoria's Secret fashion show and were the two of the most in-demand models for Fashion Week all around the globe.
47-year-old former supermodel Stephanie Seymour then jumped in and branded the two young girls the "B*****s of the moment." This was received as Seymour essentially labeling the pair a trend and that the 'moment' would soon pass.
Kendall then wrote on her official website, "If you're going to tell us not to be in 'your moment,' then don't be in mine! But, if you choose to be a cyberbully, I'm going to stick up for myself. If people want to call Gigi and I supermodels now, it doesn't take anything away from supermodels of the past."
10 Azealia Banks vs. Russell Crowe
One of the most bizarre celebrity beefs this year was between rapper Azealia Banks and actor Russell Crowe. Banks broke down in tears as she told Access Hollywood as she recalled the moment she was spat at and called the N-word by the Hollywood star during a late-night party. She added, "Every time something like this happens, I'm always like being blamed for like wanting this kind of attention. Like, who f***ing wants to tell someone they got spat on? That's humiliating. I'm just really, really humiliated."
However, music producer RZA, who was at the same party, had a different version of events. He wrote on Facebook, "Before the night is over Azealia is insulting half the room she becomes loud and obnoxious. Azealia threaten to cut a girl in the face with a glass, then actually grabs a glass and physically attacks for no logical reason. Russell blocked the attack and expelled her from the suite." No charges against either party have been pressed and we doubt these two will ever be partying in the same suite again.
9 Khloe Kardashian vs. Chloe Grace Moretz
It was Khloe vs Chloe on Twitter this year as the two feuded over everything including family, feminism and fake pictures. Right in the middle of the storm that brewed between Khloe's sister Kim Kardashian and Taylor Swift (more about that later), Chloe Grace Moretz tweeted that people shouldn't be wasting their time on something so unimportant.
Despite Khloe being 13 years older than 19-year-old Chloe, she responded with a tweet of what appeared to be the young star laid on a guy's back, wearing a red bikini that revealed far too much. Khloe tweeted the NSFW image to her 22 million followers but Chloe responded that the photo was not of her. The teenager made it clear with her tweet that read, "Fact check: first photo is me filming my movie Neighbors 2, the second photo is some girl who was wrongfully photographed." We give this war to Chloe, as Khloe just came off looked ridiculously mean.
8 Mariah Carey vs. Jennifer Lopez
Mariah Carey seriously doesn't know Jennifer Lopez - she made that very clear this year. During an appearance on Watch What Happens Live when asked about Lopez, Carey responded with a simple: "I don't know her." It was a surprise to a lot of people that the two have never met - despite both their careers stretching out over the decades - and they have both appeared at the same award shows.
During an interview with Wendy Williams, Lopez called Carey out on her shade as she recalled, "She's forgetful. We've met many times." Lopez got the last laugh however as during Carey's live performance at the Billboard Music Awards, she was caught on camera scrolling through Instagram instead of watching the stage. It appears there is only room for one diva in showbiz at a time.
7 Dwayne Johnson vs. Vin Diesel
Despite being co-stars for the mega-succesful The Fast and The Furious franchise, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Vin Diesel really don't see eye-to-eye. The Rock referred to Vin Diesel as "unprofessional", "chicken s**t" and "candy-a***s" when they were shooting the film Fast 8.
Their co-star Michelle Rodriguez summed it up as a typical battle between the male egos. She told People magazine, "Any human being who knows what men are like knows to stay out (of those) situations and let them figure it out."
So how do the producers of their movie feel about the feud? The Rock told US Weekly, "Would Universal (Pictures) have preferred that didn't happen? Sure, we talked about it. The irony is after that, and as they do their tracking and all their analysis, the interest (in Fast 8) shot through the roof to a whole other level." Proving all publicity is good publicity.
6 Chrissy Teigan & John Legend vs. Piers Morgan
Chrissy Teigan is certainly one to speak her mind and her husband, singer John Legend, always has her back. When it came to their spat over Twitter this year with former-news editor turned television personality, Piers Morgan, the two were the ultimate tag-team.
Morgan tweeted, "I hope people don't make me sound too perfect when I die. No coats of sugar please." Legend tweeted back, "You could test us by announcing your retirement." and Teigan followed with: "From what? Trolling isn't a job (I've tried)." Morgan fought back: "Maybe I should take up a proper job, like modelling?" To which Teigan replied: "It keeps me nice and not-racist so sure, give it a go."
Teigan then ended her side of the feud with calling Morgan an "unequivocal douche." To which he replied she was a "swimsuit accessory." Safe to say these three won't be at a dinner party together anytime soon.
5 Kanye West vs. Amber Rose & Wiz Khalifa
Demi Lovato had such a terrible time at the Met Ball this year that she has vowed never to return to the star-studded bash again. Moschino designer Jeremy Scott, Nicki Minaj and Lovato all posed together on the red carpet for a picture perfect moment, but Minaj uploaded the tweet to Instagram with Lovato completely cut out.
Lovato told her fans via Snapchat: "When you aren't mentioned in a post but didn't do s**t to the person… " She also added, "The shade being thrown in this picture actually gives me life." When her fans started responding to the feud, Lovato tweeted: "Sometimes there's more s**t going on than you see. Maybe you DON'T know every aspect of my life so maybe you shouldn't assume you know." Whatever Lovato did to Minaj to get cut out of the picture we may never know - but it looks like it hit home hard.
3 Justin Bieber vs. Selena Gomez
Justin Bieber is well known for having a temper with his fans. Earlier in 2016 he posted a photo of him beside 17-year-old Sofia Richie. His fans sent a lot of hate towards the couple, considering 99% of his followers are insanely obsessed with him. Bieber then threatened, "I'm gonna make my Instagram private if you guys don't stop the hate this is getting out of hand. If you guys are really fans you wouldn't be so mean to people like that."
His former ex-girlfriend Selena Gomez then replied, "If you can't handle the hate then stop posting pictures of your girlfriend lol - it should be special between you two only. Don't be mad at your fans. They love you."
Bieber then fired straight back; "It's funny to see people that used me for attention and still trying to point the finger this way. Sad. All love. I'm not one for anyone receiving hate." No signs of a reunion on the cards for these two then.
2 Taylor Swift vs. Calvin Harris
Taylor Swift and Calvin Harris gave us 'Swan Goals' last year, then this year it all crumbled when they announced they were breaking up. Less than two months after the split, Taylor was splashed on the front page of every magazine, cuddled up to her new boyfriend, British actor Tom Hiddleston.
Just to make matters even worse for heartbroken Calvin Harris, Taylor's confirmed publicly that Calvin's biggest hit of the year, This Is What We Came For, was actually penned by his ex-girlfriend. Calvin tweeted: "I figure if you're happy in your new relationship you should focus on that instead of trying to tear your ex bf down for something to do." Before he added, "I know you're off tour and you need someone new to try and bury like Katy (Perry) but I'm not that guy, sorry. I won't allow it." His comments hit home hard with fans as the hashtag #TaylorSwiftIsOverParty started trending.
1 Kim Kardashian vs. Taylor Swift
When Kanye West released his track Famous this year, he was blasted over his 'misogynistic' lyrics that claimed he made Taylor Swift famous. Taylor played the victim and even subtly referenced the song when she accepted a Grammy Award. She said, "There are going to be people along the way who will try to undercut your success or take credit for your accomplishments or your fame… "
Then in a twist that came from nowhere, Kim Kardashian stepped in to defend her husband and leaked a phone call between Taylor and Kanye where approval was clearly granted. During the phone call, Kanye reads her the lyrics and Taylor responds, "It's awesome that you're so outspoken about this and be like, 'Yeah, she does. It made her famous.' It's more provocative to say 'might still have sex… ' There's not like one (lyric) that hurts my feelings and one that doesn't."
Taylor then received the biggest backlash of the whole year, branded a liar and a 'snake' by her fans. Kim just adjusted her crown as the Queen of shade.
