15 Celebrity Mugshots And The Shocking Stories Behind Them
Even our favorite celebs get into trouble, but the stories behind these mugshots of the rich and famous are unbelievable. There were so many mugshots to sift through because it goes to prove that even your celebrity status won't keep you from being read your rights and placed in the back of police cruiser. We hear about celebs getting arrested for DUI or DWIs, but how about those that get into bar brawls or where an A-list actor gets stabbed in the face? We'd also like to think that international hunks who date the hottest women in the world would be satisfied, so when they're arrested for soliciting prostitution it's a shock to everyone. Rock and roll singers are usually known for their wild parties that are a hotel maid's nightmare. Who knew that lovable actor who played the character of a goofy next door neighbor on TV spent over two years in jail. And we can't forget about the young Hollywood starlets who went from child actors who train wreck young adults with multiple mugshots because they couldn't stay out of trouble.
It's true. Hollywood is full of people with big bank accounts and sketchy pasts. Here are just 15 stories of entertainers who will never live down their infamous crimes and the mugshots to match.
15 Hugh Grant was Caught with His Pants Down - Literally
Let's just start this list off with a bang! Hugh Grant looks embarrassed in his mugshot. As he should be. The actor was on the top of his game in 1995 when he was caught with his pants down - almost literally. The actor was arrested while he was receiving oral sex from a prostitute named Divine Brown. He was driving around Los Angeles looking for a good time when he saw Brown on the street and flashed his car lights at her. She initially told him she would go back to a hotel room with him for $100, but seeing as how he only had $60 buck on him, they negotiated an in-the-car deal. Overly excited with the *ahem* performance, Grant kept pressing his foot against the brake which alerted a police officer passing by. Grant was placed on probation for two years, fined $1,180, and ordered to complete an AIDS education program.
14 Tim Allen Went to Prison for Drug Trafficking
Before he became the lovable Tim "The Toolman" Taylor, who graced our television screens on "Home Improvement" for eight years, Tim Allen was just another (pretty handsome looking) Average Joe. While traveling in Michigan in 1978, Allen was arrested at the Kalamazoo/Battle Creek International Airport for having almost a pound and a half of cocaine. He was facing life in prison but received three to seven years after pleading guilty and giving up the names of the other drug dealers that he knew. He served two years and four months of his sentence before he was released in 1981.
“It was a watershed moment,” Allen said about his arrest. “It put me in a position of great humility, and I was able to make amends to friends and family and refocus my life on setting and achieving goals.” And look where that determination got him. The moral of this story is learn from your mistakes, and Tim Allen clearly did.
13 Phil Spector was Found Guilty of Murder and We Got this Horrifying Mugshot
If these photos of Phil Spector don't give you nightmares, you're a stronger person than we are, my friend. The legendary music producer got caught up in a scandal when, back in February of 2003, Spector murdered actress Lana Clarkson in his home. He claimed that she accidentally shot herself when she kissed his gun, but detectives thought otherwise. In the 911 call made by Spector's driver, who was on the scene, you could hear the producer's voice in background saying, "I think I've killed someone." The highly publicized case was heavily documented, and in 2009 a jury took 19 days to find Spector guilty. He was sentenced to 19 years to life in prison and will be 88-years-old before he's even eligible for parole. This definitely proves that even celebrities have a dark side to them no matter how harmless they look.
12 Tiger Woods Popped for A DUI in Florida
The most recent arrest on this list comes from Tiger Woods who was hauled off to jail on Memorial Day weekend last month. Woods was driving around Florida in his Mercedes-Benz when something alerted police to take a closer look at the golfer. He was cited for a DUI and improper parking, but no one was hurt during the incident. The athlete told officers he hadn't been drinking but had "an unexpected reaction to prescribed medications." He's been rehabilitating from back surgery and he claims the mix off meds messed him up more than he'd realized.
"I understand the severity of what I did and I take full responsibility for my actions," he said in a statement. Although this looks bad, this arrest is mild compared to the sex scandal and divorce he went through. Back in 2009, Woods was discovered to have an affair with a woman named Rachel Uchitel.
11 Pee Wee Herman is a Registered Sex Offender
Paul Reubens is the real name behind the Pee Wee Herman character that became an iconic staple in television and cult film classics. For a period of time, he took a break from dressing up as his zany character. But in 1991, he made headlines in a way that no one expected. While visiting relatives in Florida, Reubens was caught by cops masturbating in an adult movie theater. After his arrest, CBS stopped airing "Pee Wee's Playhouse", and the actor faced ridicule in the media. There were a number of Reubens's celebrity friends who rallied behind him, and in the following years he was able to rebuild his reputation. Well, that is until 2001 when police searched his Los Angeles home and claimed to have discovered images depicting child pornography. Reubens said the images were from his "extensive historical art photography collection" and later pleaded guilty to misdemeanor possession of an obscene image “with the intent to exhibit his collection." He was fined, given three years' probation, and registered as a sex offender.
10 Ian Watkins's Charges are Sick and Disgusting
Front man to the popular band Lostprophets, Ian Watkins, had the rock and roll world at his fingertips. So it was a shock in 2012 when the singer was arrested on unbelievable charges, which included conspiracy to engage in sexual activity with a one-year-old girl and possession and/or distribution of indecent images of children. But wait, it gets worse. Watkins pleaded guilty the attempted rape of an 11-month old child and encouraging a fan to abuse her baby via webcam. When police searched his house, they found child pornography videos, most of which he made himself. Watkins initially maintained his innocence but said he decided to plead guilty in order to avoid trial. In a prison phone call with a fan, he called the entire court ordeal "mega lolz." He was sentenced to 35 years in prison. Now, this is one way to ruin one's image.
9 Amanda Bynes has Too Many Arrests for Just One Mugshot
We're just going to use this mugshot of Amanda Bynes to take a walk down memory lane through just a few of her arrests. In the spring of 2012, Amanda was given a ticket by cops for texting while behind the wheel. Naughty, naughty. Yet things seemed to escalate quickly when, just a month later, she was arrested and charged with a DUI after she swiped a police cruiser. She had another hit and run charge that occurred that year as well, but she settled with her victims out of court, so the charges were dismissed. In 2013, the actress was arrested at her home after she threw a bong out of her 36th floor apartment to the street below. She was charged with criminal possession of marijuana, attempted tampering with evidence, and reckless endangerment. But the following year, those charges were dismissed, as well. We can't forget about the time she was arrested in front of a stranger's house in 2013 for starting a fire in their driveway. She was put on a 5150, otherwise known as a 72-hour mental-health evaluation hold. There was another DUI that came in 2014, and there's also those tweets when she alleged her father sexually abused her. So it's really not that surprising that she spent about a month in a psychiatric facility. Whew. That's a whirlwind.
8 Terrence Howard Hit His Ex-Wife
He's creating a firestorm on television as Lucious Lyon on "Empire," but in 2001 Terrence Howard was wrapped up in his own real life controversy. The actor was arrested for physically assaulting his ex-wife, Lori McCommas, an incident that he admitted to. The police report stated that he punched the woman twice, but Howard claims he just slapped her.
"She was talking to me real strong, and I lost my mind and slapped her in front of the kids," he said. "Her lawyer said it was a closed fist, but even slapping her was wrong."
"She was trying to Mace me," Howard explains, "and you can't see anything, so all you can do is try to bat somebody away, and I think that something caught her. But I wasn't trying to hit her." Well, it seems like Terrence Howard turned his life around after this and even found love again with wife Miranda Pak.
7 Frank Sinatra was Charged with both Seduction and Then Adultery
Believe it or not, back in the 1930s, it was possible to be arrested on the charge of Seduction (yep, it was a crime). It typically happened when a man engaged in some sort of inappropriate sexual encounter with a woman after he "convinced" her to go along with the activities. These would be women with good reputations in the community, and while these men would promise to marry them, they wouldn't follow through, thus tarnishing their images.
When ol' blue eyes himself, Frank Sinatra, was just 23-years-old, he found himself with such a charge. It was 1938 when he got caught with a woman, but an investigation determined she wasn't single, but married. His Seduction charge was dropped, but he was rearrested a year later on charges of Adultery. He paid his bond and was released from jail, but in the end all charges against the iconic crooner were dropped.
6 Carmen Electra and Then Husband Dennis Rodman were Arrested for Domestic Dispute
The world was confused when model Carmen Electra married NBA star Dennis Rodman in Las Vegas. The two hit the red carpets, acting all the part of being desperately in love. For a while, the public just rode the crazy wave, but at the same time waiting for the ball to drop. Just six months later Electra filed for divorce, but by November of 1999, the two had yet to officially call off their marriage and were both arrested at a Miami Beach hotel. Police were called after someone complained about they heard yelling and screaming coming from their Bentley Hotel room. Both Electra and Rodman were arrested at the scene and charged with simple battery. The each posted $2,500 bail and had temporary restraining orders placed against each other. Rodman met Michelle Moyer that same year and married her in 2003, but that union, too, dissolved.
5 Christian Slater Couldn't Seem to Stay Out of Trouble
Actor Christian Slater has found himself on the wrong side of the law quite a few times. It all started in 1989 when he spent 10 days in jail for drunk driving and assault. Then in 1994, he tried to get onto a plane while carrying a gun and had to perform community service. Three years later, he was arrested for assaulting his girlfriend at the time, Michelle Jonas, while drunk or high on drugs. For that, he had to go to rehab for 100 days, spend three months in jail, and then three more months in a residential rehab center. Think that's all? Oh no. In 2005, he was arrested in Manhattan after allegedly sexually harassing a woman on the street. Those charges were dropped as long as he promised not to get into any more trouble for six months. So let's hope he keeps that up.
4 Vince Vaughn Present was In a Barroom Brawl Where Steve Buscemi was Stabbed in the Face
This is one of those stories that you'd never believe would have happened if there weren't mugshots to prove it. Steve Buscemi, Vince Vaughn, and screenwriter Scott Rosenberg were involved in a nasty fight while they were on location filming in Wilmington, North Carolina. The three men were kicking back at the Firebelly Lounge when female fans went over to talk to Vaughn. Their boyfriends, a couple of locals from around town, didn't take kindly to the star chit-chatting with their ladies. A fight broke out between the Hollywood group and the Wilmington crowd, but by the time police arrived, the scene already turned bloody. Buscemi was stabbed in the face - above his eye and in the jaw - and also suffered stab wounds to the throat and arm. He was rushed to the hospital and treated while everyone else was arrested. Timothy William Fogerty, 21, received 180 days in jail for assaulting Buscemi.
3 Lindsay Lohan is a Mugshot Pro
Oh, the many tales of Lindsay Lohan's mugshots. Like others on this list, Lohan has been handcuffed on more than one occasion, mostly for driving under the influence. In May, July, and August of 2007, Lohan was arrested for DUIs and possession of cocaine. She was placed on probation but in 2010 had it revoked after she skipped a court date to attend the Cannes Film Festival. That same year, she was sentenced to spend 90 days in jail because she didn't attend her court ordered alcohol and drug classes. In the fall, she failed a drug test when she tested positive for cocaine. She was sent to the Betty Ford rehabilitation center, but was accused of assaulting a staff member who was trying to administer a drug test. In early 2011, she was also accused of stealing a $2,500 necklace from a jewelry store in Venice, California. And just a few months later, she was required to spend 120 days in county jail and 480 hours of community service for violating her probation from one of her 2007 DUI arrests.
2 Nicki Minaj
BBefore she was dissing people for not even knowing how to spell Prague, Nicki Minaj was just another girl with humble beginnings in Queens, New York. Onika Tanya Maraj was just 20-years-old back in 2003 when she was hustling as a street rapper working at Red Lobster. Maybe she can give us the real cheddar biscuits recipe. Anyway, Nicki was busted by the NYPD for criminal possession of a weapon. But that's not such not so alarming, is it? It isn't as if she's the only rapper out there with a criminal past. And considering Nicki has become a worldwide "Barbz" sensation, it's safe to say that she won't try to find her self-locked up ever again. Let's hope her hip hop beef with rapper Remy Ma stays on paper and not in the streets. This story also proves that her life is just as colorful as her public persona.
1 Justin Bieber
Singer Justin Bieber has changed his bad boy ways, but before he was walking down the straight and narrow path, he had some run-ins with the law. Bieber was arrested in Miami on DUI and drag-racing charges. At the time of his arrest, police reported that they "smelled odor of alcoholic beverage." Officers also claimed that Bieber, who was 19 at the time, was uncooperative with them and admitted at the police station that he also smoked weed and had taken prescriptions medication. Bieber was also charged with having a license that was expired over six months and resisting arrest without violence. He posted $2,500 bail and was released. Later all the charges against him were dropped for lack of evidence. These crimes weren't the only things that ruined his squeaky clean image. He also punched a fan in the face and chucked eggs at his neighbor's house. It's a good thing the singer is trying to clean up his act these days.
