15 Celebs Who Are Keeping Their Kids From The Spotlight
Celebrities are constantly hounded by the media. There are paparazzi shots of them everywhere - at the grocery store, at the gas station, and coming out of the plastic surgeon's office. And while some celebs embrace the exposure, others shy away from it. Especially when it comes to their kids. And to those celebs, we say, good for you! Good for you for trying to raise your kids with a sense of normalcy. No three year old needs a camera in their face when they're having a meltdown outside of daycare. A toddler shouldn't know how to smile and wave for the photographers so they leave them alone. They're just kids after all! And even though their parents are famous, the kids do deserve their privacy. They didn't ask for the over-exposed life.
Some stars are great at keeping their kids out of the spotlight - so great that we didn't even realize they had kids! But other stars struggle with this. Poor Angelina Jolie can't even get her kids out of the house without a billion photos of them getting taken. But it's hard to protect your kids when you're a super famous actress and you have six children. And then there are those parents who push their kids into the spotlight and even bring them to the front row of Fashion Week (looking at you Kim K and David Beckham).
Here are 15 celebrity parents who are doing a great job keeping their kids under wraps!
15 Eva Mendes & Ryan Gosling
Eva Mendes and Ryan Gosling do such a good job keeping their private life private that we almost forgot they were together! Seriously, if it weren't for his speech at the Golden Globes, we would've forgotten that Gosling and Mendes were married with two young daughters. But it's true! Ryan Gosling is a dad of two to Esmeralda Amada and Amada Lee. And right from the beginning, things were very hush hush for Gosling and Mendes' girls. Eva Mendes managed to keep her first pregnancy a secret for several months and the second one secret almost until her due date. The couple didn't make a big announcement when their daughters were born; there were definitely no magazine covers. In fact, if TMZ hadn't discovered their birth certificates, we probably would still have no clue that these girls even exist! And good for them! It's so hard to keep your family life private, so you two keep doing whatever you're doing. It's working.
14 Matt Damon
Did we even know Matt Damon was a father? Well, he is! He's married to Luciana Barroso. The two met in 2003 in Miami when Luciana was working as a bartender at a bar that Matt just happened to walk into. How cute is that? They were married two years later and now have four children, one from Luciana's first marriage, and three together. And it must be Matt's lot in life to be surrounded by beautiful women because all four of his children, Alexia, Isabella, Gia, and Stella, are girls. And even though his daughters are getting older, Alexia is 19, they have all managed to stay out of the spotlight. We have mom, Luciana, to thank for that. She's not involved in anything to do with Hollywood. In fact, we only see her on red carpets with Matt. She never gives interviews and hasn't gone the route of some celebrity wife looking for a reality TV show or product endorsements. Good for you, Luciana!
13 Donald Glover
Now this is news. Did you know that Donald Glover, aka your favorite character from Community, aka rapper Childish Gambino, was also a dad? Donald Glover seems to be everywhere these days with his hot music career and hit TV show, Atlanta. But despite all the fame and press, he has managed to keep his personal life incredibly personal. In fact, we didn't know he was a dad until he revealed it at the 2017 Golden Globes when he gave his speech for Best Actor. Glover said, "I really want to say thank you to my son, and the mother of my son for making me believe in people again, and things being possible." So not only did we know nothing about his son, we also know nothing about the mother of his son. Glover has yet to confirm her identity. We have no clue who she is and we have no clue if the two of them are together. But since his personal life is so private, we're forced to just enjoy the creative work he's putting out into the world.
12 Scarlett Johanson
Poor ScarJo has had her share of messy relationships. Remember when she was married to Ryan Reynolds? And then she rebounded off that relationship with Sean Penn? Scarlett has certainly had her heart broken or she has left a trail of broken hearts behind her. She met her baby daddy and ex-husband, Romain Dauriac, in 2012. The two were engaged in 2013 and began splitting their time between New York and Romain's native Paris. Scarlett's rep confirmed in September 2014 that the couple had welcomed a daughter, Rose Dorothy Dauriac. But the rep neglected to announce the child's birthdate. We still have no clue exactly when Rose was born. And most people didn't even know Scarlett was expecting. Scarlett and Romain were married in October 2014 but unfortunately, married bliss didn't last. The two separated in the summer of 2016, aka the summer of big break ups. They officially filed for divorce in early March 2017.
11 Natalie Portman
You probably know that Natalie Portman is a mom because she famously won her Oscar for her role in Black Swan while heavily pregnant. But have we seen her children since? Nope! And yes, that is "children" plural because she now has two little ones with husband and Black Swan choreographer, Benjamin Millepied. Like Scarlett and her husband once did, Natalie and Benjamin split their time between Los Angeles and Paris. They moved to Paris in 2013 when Benjamin was offered the Director of Dance position at the Paris Opera Ballet. And in 2016, they returned to LA, likely so Natalie could return to her acting career. So does this mean we will see more of their children, son Aleph and daughter Amalia? Unlikely. While Aleph's birth was not news, Amalia was born just a month ago in February 2017 without so much as confirmation from Portman's rep. So crazy!
10 Julia Roberts
Did you know Julia Roberts was a mom? Our favorite from Pretty Woman and My Best Friend's Wedding has passed on her mega-watt smile to three little youngsters. She has twins, Hazel and Phinneaus, and another son, Henry. We remember Julia doing some press and appearing on a few magazine covers when the twins were first born. But now it seems like we hardly see them! Which is impressive, seeing as the twins are 13 years old and little Henry is 10. Julia has these children with her husband of 15 years, Daniel Moder. They met on set in 2000 when Daniel was working as a cameraman. We kind of love that this family is so out of the spotlight. We rarely see pictures of Julia and her children or even Julia and her husband together. And yet, they are a happy Hollywood family - they're just staying out of Hollywood!
9 Keri Russel & Matthew Rhys
Keri Russel and Matthew Rhys are best known as co-stars on The Americans. But did you know that they are also a real life couple? They began dating in 2013 and welcomed their first child together, Sam, in 2016. The media knew that Keri was pregnant when a co-star let slip that they had to schedule shooting around Keri's baby bump. But the media kind of forgot to check in to see if she actually had the baby. It wasn't until a rare photo of Keri and Matthew walking in Brooklyn with their newborn was seen that the couple even confirmed their child had been born. Even more amazing, Keri has two children from her previous marriage that we also never see: a ten-year-old son, River, and a six-year-old daughter, Willa. Keri and Matthew continue to star on the hit award-winning show, The Americans, and still manage to keep their relationship and their children away from the cameras. Now that is impressive!
8 Kate Hudson
Kate Hudson is known as the rom-com queen with the killer abs. We are shocked every time we remember that Kate Hudson is a mom of two. And why are we shocked? Because no moms should have abs as amazing as Kate Hudson does! Seriously! Have you seen her body? It's insane! But yes, she is a mom of two. Kate has two sons, Ryder Russel Robinson and Bingham Hawn Bellamy. Ryder, now 13 years old, is Kate's son with ex-husband Chris Robinson of The Black Crowes. The couple divorced in 2007 and in 2010, she met her next baby daddy, Matt Bellamy, the frontman of Muse. Kate clearly has a thing for band guys! Kate and Matt got engaged in April 2011 but never did make it down the aisle. They welcomed Bingham into the world later in 2011 and eventually called off their engagement and split in 2014. So while Kate might not be so lucky in love, she has a hot bod, a hot caree, and a great ability to keep her kids out of the spotlight.
7 Kristen Bell & Dax Shepard
First daddy daughter swim in Lake Michigan-a right of passage for any Mitten baby ✋
A post shared by kristen bell (@kristenanniebell) on Sep 15, 2016 at 7:53am PDT
Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard are one of our favorite Hollywood couples. They are just so quirky and cute together! We love them in their movies, on social media, and when they get involved in social issues and politics. One thing Kristen and Dax were very moved to support was the anti-paparazzi "No Kids" Policy movement. Kristen, Dax, and a number of other celebrities started a movement to convince popular magazines to not publish paparazzi photos of children. And it worked! Big publications like People, ET, and Just Jared all agreed to stop using those photos. Kristen explained it when she said, "I'm telling you right now, we don't want our daughter's face anywhere ever until she decides because I have the utmost respect for her." We love that! And we totally respect you for it. And that's why Kristen and Dax don't share photos of their daughters, Liberty and Delta, unless in fun shots like the one from Kristen's Instagram above.
6 Alexis Bledel
Rory Gilmore is a mom! Well, that's not a shocker if you watched until the end of the revival series. But in real life, Rory Gilmore actress Alexis Bledel is also a mom. In 2012, Alexis began dating her co-star on Mad Men, Vincent Kartheiser. We're sorry to break it to you that the baby daddy is not Logan, Dean or Jess. Anyway, Alexis and Vincent got engaged in 2013 and secretly married in 2014. And then they had a baby, a son, in the fall of 2015. But when did we find out? Not in 2015! We didn't find out Alexis was a mom until the fall of 2016 when her Gilmore Girls co-star, Scott Patterson, also known as Luke Danes, let it slip to the media. So we didn't find out Alexis was a mom until a whole year after she had the baby! Now that is the ultimate in child privacy. Congrats to you, Alexis and Vincent! Way to keep your private life to yourselves.
5 Adam Sandler
Did you know Adam Sandler was a father and a dad? We sort of pictured him as a funny man bachelor just laughing it up in his palatial New York loft every weekend. But no, Adam is definitely a family man. We just had no clue about it because we never see the fam. Adam married Jacqueline Titone, who he calls Jackie, in 2003 after she converted to his religion, Judaism. They have two daughters together, 11-year-old Sadie and 9-year-old Sunny. We never see photos of the girls, which means major kudos to Adam and Jackie. It's tough having preteen daughters in Hollywood when dad is in a movie every other month. But can you imagine how fun it would be to have Adam Sandler as a dad? That house must be laughing all the time. As long as he doesn't follow any of rules he came up with in Big Daddy, his kids are probably doing all right.
4 Leighton Meester & Adam Brody
All of our teenage dreams came true when we learned that Seth Cohen from The OC (Adam Brody) and Blair Waldorf from Gossip Girl (Leighton Meester) were dating. Unfortunately, we didn't get to see nearly as much of this couple as we would've liked. We wanted a weekly episode every Thursday just like Gossip Girl or The OC. But Leighton and Adam wanted to keep their relationship much more private and under wraps. They got married in 2014 practically in secret and Leighton even managed to hide her baby bump for months. Her bump wasn't discovered by the paps until May 2015 and she gave birth to their daughter, Arlo Day Brody, in August. To this day, we never see Arlo in the spotlight and we rarely even see her mom and dad. If it weren't for her birth certificate and the rare fuzzy family photo, we wouldn't even know she existed!
3 Mila Kunis & Ashton Kutcher
When Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher first got together, the media was all over it. We couldn't go a day without a photo of the two of them walking around the park or catching a basketball game appearing online. The paps were out in full force! And that's because their relationship was pretty controversial. Mila and Ashton first met on the set of That 70's Show way back in 1998 where they played on-again-off-again lovers. Mila even revealed that Ashton was her first kiss! They both went on to have other relationships; Ashton was married to Demi Moore for seven years. But in 2012, they found their way back to each other. But after all the fuss about their relationship, the two managed to get back to the privacy they desired. Mila gave birth to their first child, a daughter Wyatt, in 2014. The media knew about this one because her birth was right between the couple's engagement and wedding. But did you know they had a son? Mila and Ashton welcomed a son, Dimitri, in November 2016. And we haven't seen the kids since!
2 Adele
Adele might be one of the biggest names in music but she is incredibly protective of her family and private life. Despite pouring her personal life and past break ups into her music, Adele doesn't talk about them much in interviews. And she is rarely photographed with her son or husband. In 2012, Adele and Simon Konecki welcomed their son. Famously, Adele had refused to release the name of her son and took a significant time away from the spotlight to be with him. Years later we found out his name was Angelo. When paparazzi photos of their son were taken in 2013, Adele and Simon sued the photo agency for a privacy breach. Adele and Simon secretly married but no one is quite sure when. They were spotted wearing rings in 2017 and Adele referred to Simon on stage as her husband. But besides that detail, there's little else we know about this private family.
1 Kerry Washinton
The biggest scandal here is how Kerry Washington manages to keep her private life so incredibly private. Despite being on a hit TV show, appearing in movies, and hitting all the red carpets, we really don't get too much of a glimpse into Kerry's personal life. She secretly married her husband, football player Nnamdi Asomugha, in 2013. She kept her first pregnancy a secret until filming on SNL made the bump too hard to conceal. In 2014, Kerry and Nnamdi welcomed their first child, a daughter named Isabelle Amarachi. Kerry made a point of telling the media that they would not be seeing photos of Isabelle anytime soon. When Kerry became pregnant with her second child, she declined to address the rumors. Instead, Kerry continued to hide her bump with strategic fashion choices. Which is how she was able to welcome her son, Caleb Kelechi Asomugha, in October 2016 with little media coverage. And while we've seen a pregnant Kerry on many red carpets, she and her husband have done a great job of keeping their children and themselves out of the tabloids.
