15 Reasons We Need More 'Gilmore Girls'
So we've all watched the four new Gilmore Girls Netflix revival episode. We've found out what happened to Lorelai and Rory in the years since the seventh season finale (and what we thought was the series finale) aired, we've seen Rory's three boyfriends, and we've witnessed the beauty of Stars Hollow throughout the four seasons. We had a pretty interesting weekend watching this new content and we can safely say that while it was not perfect, it was a really good revival and we are definitely happy that we got to see it. It's just a beautiful thing when your fave show comes back… and it's still really, really great. It's pretty much television magic. Of course, this being the age of Netflix, there's only one question left: will there be more episodes?! Us fans are naturally really into this idea, and we don't think that we can take the suspense any longer. Let's hope that we get an official announcement one of these days. Here are 15 reasons we need more Gilmore Girls.
15 Why Not?
When we think about it, there is really no reason that we could not get more GG episodes. We are pretty sure that the creators, cast, and crew would be really into this idea, too, because why wouldn't they be? They got the chance to come back and revive the show that they all love (and that we love too). That's no small thing. That's amazing and definitely really cool. We can't imagine that Netflix would suggest the possibility of a second season/second revival/more episodes… and everyone involved saying no way, they are done. We just don't think that they can be done. After all, we saw seven seasons of this glorious series and we're still not over it. We still need more. We still want more. So really, why not? There seems to be literally no good argument against having more episodes, and that's just what we truly believe.
14 It's Super Popular
No doubt about it, Gilmore Girls is super popular these days. As soon as Netflix brought the beloved mom/daughter series back in 2014, we started to realize that, hey, we love this show… and everyone we know loves this show, too. It was like before it was a best kept secret or something. We grew up with the show, we watched it throughout junior high and high school and college, and we always rewetted our favorite episodes. But we might not have talked about it too often and we probably didn't know that so many people loved it as well. Well, as soon as the seven series started streaming on Netflix, we learned that we were not the only fans in the world. Nope, not even close. Then the amazing and brilliant Gilmore Guys started their loveable podcast and soon it just became cool and normal to love this show. So since the series is becoming more popular by the second, why not give us more?
13 It Had A Crazy Ending
Okay, so after that crazy cliffhanger of an ending, we can't imagine that there won't be any more episodes. We just can't. No fan could, really. We can't believe that Rory Gilmore is now pregnant… and probably going to have a baby. Some of us are totally divided over the ending and the final four words, no doubt about it. We either love or hate it, or maybe we're in between and we're okay with it but don't really want to think about it too much. Needless to say, these four words are real food for thought when it comes to this revival, and that's exactly why we think that we need more episodes. Cliffhangers need to lead to something more, don't they? They need to be resolved. The creators absolutely need to continue this story. We don't see a good reason why they wouldn't continue it, either, and that's what we strongly believe.
12 Rory Needs More
It's not really possible to watch the revival episodes and think that Rory doesn't need more episodes. She's just not in a place that we ever thought she would be in and she's definitely suffering quite a lot. She's basically unemployed, she's not in love or even dating anyone at all, and now she's about to embark on the craziest and most unknown journey of all: possible motherhood. We really want to see her thrive and succeed and be much happier than she has been in these four episodes. So that reason alone is enough to want more episodes, and we can't imagine that we have to say goodbye to this character this way. We can't think that the last time we ever see her is when she's sitting on the steps of the gazebo with Lorelai, talking about how she's pregnant. Like, come on. There has to be more. There has to be a happier ending.
11 It Was Too Sad
Yup, the revival was super sad. It was tragic. It was hard to take at some points. We knew this and expected it since, of course, Richard passed away. That was one part of the new episodes that wasn't kept a secret so we at least knew that we would see Richard's funeral. We knew we would see Lorelai, Rory, and Emily grieving. Sure, okay. That makes sense and it would be weird if that wasn't a part of the new episodes. But come on. These four movie-length episodes were so, so sad. We cried a lot and we couldn't believe that the show wasn't as cheerful and joyful as it used to be. We would absolutely love to have some more episodes that are more cheerful and joyful and aren't as focused on Richard's death. That would just be something that is truly amazing. So again, we ask the question, why not?
10 We Have So Many Questions
The thing is that we have so many questions after we finished watching the Fall episode, and that is enough to make us need more episodes… and soon. Like ASAP. Like right now. Sure, we understand that if we do get more, it's going to take a bit of time, but that doesn't stop us from wishing that we could make this happen as soon as humanly possible. We have so many questions that we can't believe will never get answered. Is Logan the father of Rory's baby? Was it really Paul (ugh)? Will we ever see Lorelai and Emily be friendly or even friends? Will Rory resurrect her journalism career? Is Michel going to work at the inn's new location in town? Will Lorelai have a baby herself because she and Luke will realize that's still what they really want? We just really, really want the answers to this many questions.
9 We Need A Real Luke/Lorelai Wedding
Let's talk about the ending of Fall. Sure, it was beautiful. It was super amazing to see Lorelai and Rory walk through the set of Lorelai's wedding in the town square/near the gazebo. It was super cute that they rode in Luke's truck together while that beautiful song played, and it was cool to see Luke and Lorelai dancing together. It was great to see them get married… but come on people, that was not a real wedding. Not the kind of wedding that we always envisioned for them. It seemed like there would be a real wedding the following day -- at least that's what we think -- but are we ever going to see that? We really need more episodes and we want them to start with the wedding. We want this. We need this. We deserve this. We've been loyal fans for a really long time and we think this needs to happen.
8 We Need More Emily/Lorelai
We love that Emily got a really great storyline and that now she's come to terms with being alone after Richard's death and she's living in beautiful Nantucket. It's pretty awesome and it's even better than we ever could have imagined for her. The thing is that we really need more scenes with Emily and Lorelai… but with them getting along. We would love for them to become close (or even just closer) and call each other on a regular basis and hang out on a regular basis, too. We kind of thought that might have happened in the revival, but instead we learned that they had a monster of a fight at Richard's funeral and that things are still really shaky between them. Not exactly the kind of resolution that we had been hoping for when it comes to their relationship. We need more happy Emily and Lorelai scenes and that's that.
7 We Can't Say Goodbye To Stars Hollow
Let's just face facts here: we can't say goodbye to Stars Hollow. Not now. Not when we got to see it look amazing in every single season in this revival. It is a magical winter wonderland, it is all green in the spring and summer, and it is drop-dead gorgeous with the fall colors. We love you, Stars Hollow, and we are so happy that we got to spend the weekend visiting you once again. But that's exactly why we can't say goodbye… not now. Not ever. We need more episodes because we need more Stars Hollow, period. We want to see more quirky townspeople, more quirky town moments, and definitely more festivals. We would even be okay with more town musicals (even though, let's be honest, that musical did go on a super long time). We all love this town so much, we think we need to see it once again.
6 We Want More Jess
Seeing Jess in a handful of scenes in this revival was just not enough. Sure, we're definitely on #TeamJess and we're never going to think that enough is enough. He could be in every single scene and we would still say, nope, not enough. That's just the way that it is. But we really do want more Jess because we got to see him give Rory advice about writing a book about her relationship with Lorelai… but that was it. Sure, he had a cute scene with Luke and he was sitting in their living room reading (so hot), but that's just a drop in the bucket of what we wanted to see. If the show comes back (please, Netflix?!) then we want more Jess. We need this, actually. We can't handle the possibility that this wouldn't happen, and we don't want to feel miserable about the whole thing. We want to know that we get to see him again.
5 We Need To See Rory's Book
Rory Gilmore: bestselling author. We can see it now. She's going to get a literal agent and a publishing deal in a super short amount of time. In fact, everyone is going to love this story of a mom and daughter who are BFFs so much that there is going to be a massive bidding war. She is going to get tons of money and exposure and soon she will be a crazy famous writer. She's going to go on a book tour of the U.S. and Lorelai will tag along, keeping Rory well supplied in coffee and keeping her spirits up. Yup, we can see it now, and we think that we really need to see this happen. So naturally, we need more episodes so we can witness Rory making her dreams come true. It's going to be glorious and beautiful and really moving. If we don't get to see this, we're going to be really sad, let's put it that way.
4 We're Greedy
A lot of people would probably tell us, look, you got your revival. You didn't think that would happen. You didn't expect it. It was a super happy surprise and you should be grateful and appreciate it. Yeah, that's all true… but hey, it turns out that beggars really can be choosers. We're pretty greedy right now because we have gotten more and that means that we want even more. It's like how you can't stop eating potato chips or french fries. They are so good and you can't just eat one. You can't watch one Gilmore Girls episode and not want to watch a million more… and you can't watch the four revival episodes and not want more as well. We just need more, and that's the way that it's going to be. So if we're greedy, well, we know it. We get it. We're proud of it too because if it gives us more episodes, then that's cool.
3 We Can't Imagine It Not Happening
Sometimes the simplest explanation is the best one, and we think that applies here, too. We simply can't imagine more episodes not happening. What would possibly be the reason? The story is finished and all the characters are exactly where they are supposed to be? We can't get on board with that. Sure, we love that Luke and Lorelai have finally realized that they absolutely need to get married and that Rory is writing a book and following her writing dreams. We definitely are here for that stuff. But really, we're not cool with the idea that she could be a mom and her entire life and future would be changed forever… and we wouldn't be there to see it. How could that happen?! We have been there since the beginning and we have watched her grow up, graduate from high school, and even graduate from college. We need to be here for this next chapter in her life.
2 We Came This Far
We've honestly and truly come this far, right? We never expected this to even happen in the first place. We said goodbye to Gilmore Girls back in 2007 when it went off the air. We thought that Rory's story was ending with her leaving Stars Hollow and leaving her lovely mom to become a political journalist. We thought that Luke and Lorelai's story was ending with them getting back together (hallelujah). We thought that Lorelai was in a pretty good place with her parents because Richard finally admitted that he was proud of her and that she did a good job raising Rory and getting her life back on track. We were okay with being done… even though, of course, we were still super said that Amy Sherman-Palladino didn't get to finish her story the way that she wanted to, and that she never got to write the final four words. So really, given the fact that this show even came back at all, why not give us more?
1 There's A Chance
Sure, we might not have official news that there are going to be more episodes of Gilmore Girls. We might not have that news for a while… and hey, maybe it will never happen. But we do believe that there is a chance, no matter how slim or remote it might be. That's because Amy Sherman-Palladino never said no way or that it would never, ever happen. She has said in interviews that she wants to see what the response to the revival is first, which, sure, we totally understand. We can live with that… for now. Scott Patterson, aka Luke, has said that he is totally into the idea of doing more and he would love to just continue to play his role for as long as humanly possible. Hey Scott, we like the way that you think, and we are right there with you. So Netflix, we're asking you to give us more episodes, and we hope that you can make our Gilmore Girls dreams come true. Again.
