15 Things About Your Fave TV Shows That Are Unrealistic AF
Your favorite TV shows make the world go round… or at least your world. You seriously can't imagine life without being able to curl up on the couch with a re-run of Friends or watching Gilmore Girls for the billionth time. You are so attached to the shows that you love, you think that these characters are basically real. You think they could totally be your good friends. And in a way, they are real to you, since you have truly gotten to know them over the years and over tons of episodes. Of course, just because you love a TV show doesn't mean that you think that everything about it is totally realistic and logistical. Sometimes things on these TV shows don't make much sense and that stuff can drive you crazy. These things aren't enough to make you stop tuning in, but they do get under your skin a bit. Here are 15 things about your favorite TV shows that are unrealistic AF.
15 The HUGE Apartment In 'Friends'
You LOVE Monica and Rachel's apartment on Friends. You wish that you could live there, especially if you could get your own best friend to live there too. It would be pretty epic. Lots of people wonder if them living in this MASSIVE apartment is realistic since it seems like the characters wouldn't be able to afford it. After all, Rachel works at a cafe for a while and Monica is a chef which is not always the most lucrative business to be in, and they have each been unemployed sometimes. Of course, the idea is that Monica inherited this apartment from her grandma and so that is why they live there. And apparently, she is living there and paying less rent than she is supposed to be, so it is technically a sublet. But… you're still not sure about this! Wouldn't rent increase? You still have a lot of questions.
14 Carrie's Shoe Buying In 'Sex and the City'
If there's one thing that you know about Carrie Bradshaw, it's that the girl LOVES to shop. And what does she love to shop for? That would be shoes, shoes, and more shoes. The problem with this is that she couldn't possibly have been able to afford for all those shoes when she only wrote one column a week! It just doesn't make any sense! You know that this is a television show and that there's a certain suspension of disbelief that happens when you watch a work of fiction. But… you don't think that Carrie could have bought all those shoes, especially since she had a thing for designer shoes! This is something that has always bugged you and that is always in the back of your mind when you watch this show. It's pretty much impossible for you to forget this little thing. You still enjoy the series, but you always wonder about this.
13 The Perfect People On 'Pretty Little Liars'
Sure, the fact that the characters on this show are pretty is right there in the show title. It's a fact of life that teen dramas feature super gorgeous people. But since these girls have been put through the ringer by a mysterious figure named "A" and have been trying their best to not have their secrets revealed for years and years, it seems like they would look a bit more disheveled sometimes. But nope. These girls ALWAYS look PERFECT. They don't have a single hair out of place. Their makeup and outfits are always on point. You can't even believe it sometimes. While this show gives you major fashion envy and some inspiration too and you love that, you have to admit that you don't think that they should always look so perfectly put together. It would just be more realistic if sometimes, they wore super casual clothes and didn't bother with makeup. You know, since sometimes they're running from an evil figure and trying to escape death and all that.
12 Lorelai And Rory's Junk Food Diet On 'Gilmore Girls'
One of the best and most iconic things about Gilmore Girls is that Lorelai and Rory eat a LOT of junk food. It doesn't seem like they ever eat a green vegetable (or any kind of vegetable) or even a bowl of salad. They're all about pizza, pizza, and more pizza. They host their famous movie nights on a regular basis and eat everything from potato chips to candy to chocolate to marshmallow fluff. But… is this really realistic? If you ate junk food 24/7, you would not only have ZERO energy but you would probably gain a whole bunch of weight. You would also probably have chronic colds and just be super exhausted. But that's just not what these girls are like! Instead, they have tons of energy (almost too much sometimes!) and they seem to thrive on a diet that is mostly based on junk food. Okay, so maybe the copious amounts of coffee that they drink is partly why they have so much energy. But you have to admit that this is pretty unrealistic.
11 Callie Dating Derek's Doctor On 'Grey's Anatomy'
You still love Grey's Anatomy. You can't help it. You've been watching this show for so long, you can't stop, and you're going to tune in until the very last episode. But one thing that bugs you and that you find super unrealistic is that Callie started dating Penny, who was Derek's doctor when he ended up in the hospital thanks to a car crash that ended up being fatal. You just don't think that Callie (or anyone else) would be with someone like that. It was just too close to home and it really hurt Meredith. Didn't Callie feel super uncomfortable about this? Didn't she wonder if this was the right decision? It just seemed like she didn't even care because she was super into Penny. Sure, love makes you do crazy things, and sure, you want the best for Callie. But come on. She wasn't the right person to date because she was just too connected to Derek.
10 Alicia Staying With Peter On 'The Good Wife'
Oh The Good Wife. Let's have a moment of silence for this amazing and epic legal drama. While you adored this show, you thought there was one thing that was pretty unrealistic: the fact that Alicia always stayed with Peter. Why didn't they get divorced? Didn't she think that he was bad for her image? Because he was! He totally was! You don't believe that Alicia would have a.) stayed married to Peter and b.) decided not to seriously date Will. Come on. Will was the hottest, sweetest, and best lawyer around. He and Alicia were completely made for each other and they had a truly epic and magical love story. You hated the moment when she realized that they shouldn't actually make their relationship a real thing. You really hated it. And you still hate it to this day, especially now that poor Will is long gone and the show is off the air. This is just something that you can't get over.
9 Joey And Pacey Sailing Away The Summer On 'Dawson's Creek'
Back in the day, you LOVED Dawson's Creek. It was your guilty pleasure. Maybe you watched it when you were in junior high and were pretty much too young for it or waited until high school or college to truly binge watch this glorious teen soap opera. Since it's a teen drama, not everything is going to be totally realistic. Okay, most things aren't going to be. That's just the way that it goes. BUT… you have to admit there is one storyline that never would have actually happened in real life and that's when Joey and Pacey sailed the summer away. You don't think that Joey would have done something like this. It was super spontaneous and adventurous and a bit risky. That's not Joey Potter! And she seemed so calm about it too! What happened to Joey Potter?! You also think that logically, this kind of trip wouldn't really work out. Because there are so many factors. Like food. Where did they get food? Did they really sleep on the boat? Did they really sail for months? It's too much.
8 SO Much Drama On 'How To Get Away With Murder'
You may be a fan of How To Get Away With Murder (because #Shondaland) and you may have watched every single episode that has aired so far. That doesn't mean that you think everything about this show is realistic! There's just TOO MUCH drama on this show. Would these people really get into so much trouble and constantly be dealing with one mystery or murder after another? You think that it would make more sense if there was ONE mysterious storyline that lasted for several seasons instead of a mostly new one each time. It would just make it easier for you to believe this show and the characters. People might think you're being silly and crazy since it is a dramatic show and the point is that these are not the nicest people out there. These are bad people who do, well, bad things. But come on. You need a bit more realism.
7 The Prison In 'Orange Is The New Black'
You do not expect a TV show to accurately depict something like what it is really like to be in jail, and according to some sources, Orange Is The New Black is super unrealistic in its portrayal of prison life. Apparently there would not be tomatoes in the cafeteria since there is rarely any produce. And apparently the majority of women who are in prison are there for things that are not a.) anything to do with drugs and b.) high-profile crimes like the one that Piper is in there for. Knowing that the show does not accurately show what life in prison is like probably isn't going to make you stop watching since let's face it, this is a pretty powerful, moving and sometimes addictive show. It's just good to know that it's not realistic, even if sometimes it seems like it probably is. The more you know, the better, right?
6 The HUGE Apartment On '2 Broke Girls'
Yup, this show has another apartment that the characters could never actually afford to live in. It's no secret that the two main characters are BROKE. That's kind of the entire point of the show! It's even right there in the title! So why are they living in such a big apartment? It's really hard to ignore this fact and it makes it impossible to enjoy the show, to be totally honest. Even if you like the characters and the premise, you're still probably going to watch with this thing annoying you in the back of your head. It's just not something that you can ever get over and forget about. Plus there's the fact that you wish you could live in this place since it's really, really, really awesome. So you're also dealing with some major real estate envy and you don't like that. Life is hard enough without wishing that you could afford a massive apartment of your own! Thanks TV!
5 Rory And Logan Hooking Up On 'Gilmore Girls: A Year In The Life'
You're not alone when you say that you don't think that it made sense for Rory to hook up with Logan! After all, she told him that she didn't want to get married when he proposed at her college graduation. Isn't that kind of a big deal? Isn't that a sign that she knew that he wasn't the right guy for her? Sure, in the revival episodes she wasn't under any kind of impression that they would really be together, but come on, Rory. You can do better! And you can date Jess! How can you pick Logan when you can choose Jess?! Okay, so you're kind of biased and that's why you're not into this storyline, but that's okay. Now that there are rumblings of new episodes, you think that Amy Sherman-Palladino can right this wrong and get Rory and Jess together. It really, really needs to happen! Your fingers and toes are crossed.
4 Jen Randomly Dying On 'Dawson's Creek'
You're still not over this moment from the Dawson's Creek finale! Everyone randomly found out that Jen had some kind of heart condition that ended up being fatal, and of course, she passed away. You were devastated (and that's a severe understatement). It also felt kind of strange that you never knew that she had this condition, right? You had been watching for years and you felt like you really knew all of the characters, including Jen. You felt manipulated and like this was just some big epic thing that was cooked up for the series finale. You thought this was just way too random to be realistic. If Jen was a real person and this was real life instead of a television show, you can be sure that Jen would tell people much earlier than she did. No one could keep this a secret for as long as she did!
3 George Always Being Unemployed On 'Seinfeld'
George Costanza is hands down one of your FAVORITE TV characters ever. So you say the following statement with love: it's a bit unrealistic that George is often unemployed. Sure, sometimes he has a job, but come on, he's living in New York City. It's not exactly the cheapest place to live. Sure, he lives at home for a good part of the show, so he doesn't have to pay rent and that helps with the fact that he doesn't always have a job. But you get the feeling that if this storyline was a bit more realistic, he would always have a job because he wouldn't want to live at home. He would do everything in his power to make sure that didn't happen. But… you're kind of okay with this! You get that Seinfeld is not about being realistic because the characters are definitely not always super nice and they do bad things and that's the whole point. You're just simply pointing out that this is not the most realistic thing.
2 Mindy Keeps Her Apartment On 'The Mindy Project'
When Mindy Lahiri fell in love with Danny Castellano on The Mindy Project, she had been living in a super fabulous apartment. Like the most amazing apartment ever! You seriously lust after it every time that it appears on screen. It's a girly paradise and is your dream place. Eventually, Mindy realized that she was spending so much time at Danny's equally fabulous apartment (but not quite as girly) and that she might as well move in with him. After all, they were becoming serious and that's just what you do. But… Mindy kept her apartment! Sure, she's a fancy NYC doctor and all that, but seriously, how could she possibly have been able to afford keeping her apartment while living somewhere else? It's just not the most realistic thing on the planet. Of course, she was lucky since she did have to move back there when she broke up with Danny, so there was a silver lining to this situation.
1 Rory's Many Flights On 'Gilmore Girls: A Year In The Life'
Sure, lots of people have pointed this fact out, but that doesn't mean it's not still true! It's crazy how many flights Rory takes in the Netflix revival, Gilmore Girls: A Year In The Life. She doesn't have a ton of work (as a journalist or otherwise) and therefore, she's not making a ton of dough. Sure, it makes sense that she could have gotten money for all the plane rides from Emily, but… for so many? Wouldn't she have gone through that money? And wouldn't Emily have decided that enough was enough and that Rory should use the money for something else? Hmmm… You're not sure that it makes sense that Rory can fly so much. Especially since she's not really working. While you adored the revival since it meant more Rory and Lorelai, you have to admit that you're still confused about this storyline. Maybe that will change in the new episodes?!
