14 Reasons 'Crazy Ex-Girlfriend' Is Your Life
Are you watching Crazy Ex-Girlfriend? If the answer is yes, then you're super cool and you know what's going on. If no, then you need to change that and fast. So go ahead, cancel all your plans, tell your boss you're sick, and head home immediately. You can binge most of season one super quickly. This show premiered back in the fall and is literally the most interesting, hilarious, witty, clever, and musical show that's ever existed. Nope, that's not an understatement. It follows Rebecca, who is the main character and your new favorite person, who has just moved to a weird small town in California after hating her life as a New York lawyer. She claims she didn't move for her ex-boyfriend, Josh, but you and everyone else knows that she's a big fat liar. Basically, when you watch this funny show, you realize how much you can relate, for better or worse (maybe for worse, come to think of it). Here are 15 reasons that Crazy Ex-Girlfriend is your life.
14 You're A Mess
Don't worry, it's okay -- you're a cute mess. Rebecca is an amazing TV character because she's not ashamed to admit that her life is in ruins right now and she's trying to change things. Okay, she's a little ashamed and kind of hides from everyone how messed up things have really gotten, but you as the viewer know the truth. If your life is not what you want it to be -- maybe you're still living with a mean roommate, you hate your job, or you haven't had a good date in months -- then you can relate to Rebecca.
13 You're Quirky And You Own It
Rebecca is one weird woman and that's why you love her so much. She makes strange jokes that aren't funny to anyone except for her and she is basically awkward 100 percent of the time. But she's quirky, and so it comes off as pretty adorable rather than odd. You're quirky, too, as anyone who is worth knowing is. Being boring and like everyone else is just not the way to live life right. Maybe you also have an off-beat sense of humor that most people don't get or you just live life to the beat of your own drummer.
12 You Pine Over Your Ex
Rebecca keeps trying to pretend that she's not still in love with Josh, the guy she dated at summer camp when she was a teen, but of course she's completely head over heels. She's borderline obsessed with him. She'll strategically show up in places where she thinks he's going to be, like his favorite drink shop, and of course there's the fact that she actually moved across the country for him. If you pine over your ex, and let all thoughts of him completely ruin your chances at dating anyone else, then you're just like Rebecca.
11 You Suck At Yoga
Yup, you know that yoga is supposedly the only way to get a glowing face and skin and happy mood, but you're just not all that good at it. Unlike all the other women who seem to be able to contort their bodies into perfect poses, you just end up falling all over the place, and you'r not graceful in the least. One episode shows Rebecca in all her horrible yoga glory as she tries to befriend Josh's girlfriend Valencia, who is of course a perfect yoga teacher with an amazing body.
10 You've Texted The Wrong Person
Viewers cringed all over when Rebecca sent a text about how much she loves Josh… to Josh. OMG. Is there anything worse? You feel icky all over just thinking about it. if you've ever had a similar texting disaster or even an email or Facebook message one, you can seriously relate to Rebecca's struggle to move on from this awful, embarrassing moment. She tries to cover it up in the most hilarious, dramatic, and unrealistic way, so you might deal in a totally different way.
9 You've Been Insecure
We've all been there -- you think you're doing okay, that maybe you're not the most drop-dead gorgeous woman out there but you look fine, and then boom, you meet someone who is absolutely beautiful and seems to have zero flaws or imperfections. For Rebecca, that person is Valencia, and it's easy to relate to her struggle to feel okay about herself in the face of such beauty. Ugh, the Valencias of the world are just the worst, because no matter how pretty they are, they're not very smart, and of course you know that being intelligent matters more any day of the week.
8 You Have A Work BFF
Rebecca's work life at a new law firm is made a million times easier by Paula, an older, unhappily married woman who she befriends. Soon the two are scheming to get Rebecca and Josh together, but more than that, they seem to really care about each other. You definitely know that the best way to love your job and get through the long, crazy days is to have a work BFF. It's totally necessary for your survival and sanity.
7 Your Mom Drives You Crazy
The most hilarious episode to date has got to be the one where Rebecca's mom comes to visit. From the beginning, she complains about the flight, the weather in California, Rebecca's home, the placement of the bathroom… and that's just in the first five minutes. If your mom drives you absolutely crazy, you can probably relate. Poor Rebecca -- her mom is always comparing her to other women and saying it sucks that she's not married yet. Just what every single woman wants to hear (not).
6 You Feel Left Out Sometimes
In one particularly painful episode, Rebecca realizes she has never been part of a close group of friends -- the kind that you see in the movies and on TV, that go everywhere together, that seem to be having the time of their lives. She basically invites herself to go to the beach with Josh and his pals, and tries so desperately to fit in that the entire day is a total and utter disaster. Oops. You can relate because who hasn't felt left out and like they were trying to fit in?
5 You Have Low Moments
Ever spent an evening or entire weekend lying on the couch, watching commercials because you can't even think of what TV shows to watch? Maybe not, because of course you're just as addicted to Netflix as everyone else that you know. But just as Rebecca had a very low weekend where she felt like crap and was completely depressed in an episode early on in the first season, you've had bad times, too. You've had moments where you stayed inside for days because you didn't want to face the world.
4 You've Totally Changed Your Life
Rebecca moves from NYC to California, which is a massive change, but more than that, she gets a new job, a new house, and new friends. She's completely overhauled her world, and if you've even done that, or had to make some pretty tough decisions in a moment of weakness, you know it's tough but worth it in the end.
3 You're Weirdly Optimistic
Rebecca's life often seems to suck, and from the flashbacks that you see, it seems like her life was always that way. Growing up, she was either laughed at, bullied or just ignored, and she never felt like she belonged anywhere. She also had to deal with her parents' ugly divorce. But somehow, she stays weirdly optimistic throughout it all. She usually has a smile on her face (more like a big cheesy grin) and she seems to always believe that things will work out. Better to be like that than totally miserable, right?
2 You've Thrown A Bad Party
Rebecca's housewarming party is insanely cringe-worthy because, of course, she doesn't know enough people yet to actually throw a successful party with tons of people. So, of course, the night sucks and she ends up inviting random strangers. It's all to get Josh there, naturally, but it proves that everyone throws crappy parties. Absolutely everyone. It's just a fact of life and a rite of passage.
1 You're Fun
Ultimately, Rebecca is the best character on TV right now because she's incredibly fun. She doesn't care what people think (she thinks she does but she doesn't, because if she did, she wouldn't be so strange) and she's always looking for ways to shake up her ordinary life. She's dramatic and often comes up with musical numbers in her head related to the situation at hand, and while she may not have any clue where her life is headed, she's going to enjoy the journey as much as she can. If you're like that too, hopefully you're not as crazy as she is. But then again, we're all someone's crazy ex-girlfriend, aren't we?
