15 Celebrities Who Used To Have The Worst Sense Of Style

We tend to think that all celebrities have a great sense of style. After all, we always see them dressed to the nines on the red carpet! Their outfits are usually flattering, and their hair and makeup is always perfect. Plus, celebrities can afford to hire an army of stylists and makeup artists to help them look good, right?! But despite what we might think, not all celebrities have been known for their great sense of style. These famous women all used to have questionable fashion senses. Throughout the years, their styles have matured and improved. But, for many years, the world was shocked with what they dared to wear. From overly scandalous outfits to frumpy, unflattering looks, not all celebrities know how to style a good outfit. The most interesting thing is that quite a few of these celebs went on to work in the fashion industry. That's proof that having a bad fashion sense doesn't mean it's going to last forever.

    15 Britney Spears

We've always been huge fans of Britney Spears' music, but we can't say the same about her sense of style. The pop star has never been revered for her questionable fashion choices. Instead, she's often found herself on lists of the worst dressed stars. In the early 2000s, Britney was notorious for her trashy and tacky outfits. On the red carpet, she often wore mismatched outfits that look like she put them together in under 5 minutes. She gravitated towards sloppy, revealing tops with mini skirts that barely covered her up. She loved tacky accessories, like fedoras and chains, and out-there prints. Remember that time she wore an all-denim dress to the MTV movie awards? Eek! Even when going for casual looks, Britney used to opt for messy, oversized sweatpants and old t-shirts that should only be worn to sleep in. Today, it seems like Britney has finally invested in a good stylist. While her looks aren't always on point, she's definitely refined her style a lot more since the early 2000s. She often rocks bodycon dresses on the red carpet, and mom jeans when she's off-duty. But it's a huge improvement from what she used to wear back in the day.

    14 Helena Bonham Carter

We fell in love with Helena Bonham Carter in moves like Fight Club and Sweeny Todd. But one thing we have not fallen in love with? That would be this eccentric actress' even more eccentric sense of style. While we're used to seeing Helena all dolled up on the big screen, we can't say the same about her looks when she's off duty. Paparazzi photos often show Helena looking dishevelled and sloppy. She's no stranger to mixing mismatched prints, and pieces that don't quite fit together. The actress loves comfy, over-sized items, but they often look shapeless against her petite frame. Even on the red carpet, she favors dresses with tons of material, which only work to overwhelm her. Helena has taken a step back from the spotlight in recent years, most likely to focus on her two children. Her style appears to have become a bit more refined in the past couple years, but we still wouldn't say this Hollywood starlet is anywhere close to being a Fashionista.

    13 Beyonce

Even the Queen has had some questionable style moments. Particularly in her Destiny's Child days, Beyoncé didn't quite seem to know what her style was. She rocked a number of questionable outfits on the red carpet at this time. She seemed to favor bold, campy dresses often made of shiny materials like satin. She was also all about the bling, and was often seen with heavy jewlery or elaborately decorated dresses. Instead of making her seem glamorous, it only made our favorite pop star seem tacky and like she was trying too hard. Since then, Beyoncé has since become one of the biggest style icons in the world. She's still known for wearing dramatic outfits, especially for performances and red carpet appearances. But her fashion choices are more glamorous and sophisticated now. They also seem more grown up, whereas her earlier outfits made her seem like she was still in high school. Now that our Queen is expecting twins, we can't wait to see what awesome maternity styles she pulls off.

    12 Christina Aguilera

Christina Aguilera has had some of the biggest fashion faux pas in Hollywood. Just like her bold personality and controversial career, the singer has gravitated towards equally raunchy and trashy outfits in the past. The early 2000s was the prime of Christina's poor fashion choices. She often showed up to events in scantily clad outfits, which hugged her in all the wrong places. She loved trying out trends that no one else would, and showing as much skin as possible. Even her hair and makeup were as outrageous as her costumes. Since becoming a judge on The Voice, Christina has seemed to tame her sense of style. She definitely still makes some mistakes (like that horrible pastel hair she rocked a few years back). But, her style is definitely more polished and grown up. She's traded in the tight silhouettes for flattering bodycon dresses, but she still loves experimenting with bright hues and patterns, which is true to her signature style.

    11 Nicole Richie

Given that Nicole Richie is currently a successful fashion designer, she'd be one of the last people we'd think used to have a horrible sense of style. But, during her days on The Simple Life, Nicole was shocking the world with her questionable fashion choices. It seems like Paris Hilton wasn't a very good influence on her! Nicole used to show up to red carpet events in tube tops and mini skirts that were very, very mini. She loved wearing full-on pink outfits or even making her outfit match her best friend Paris' outfit. Sometimes she would also wear frumpy, oversized clothing that would do nothing to compliment her tiny frame. After she became a mom twice over, Nicole's style seemed to drastically improved. She's now known for her edgy, urban street style. She's always accessorized from head to toe, and tends to gravitate towards all black outfits. She's currently the definition of chic. We wish every fashion failure had this sort of happy ending.

    10 Gwen Stefani

Gwen Stefani is another former fashion failure who went on to become a successful fashion designer. During the '90s and early 2000s, everything Gwen wore was a complete joke. She would show up to red carpet events in a furry bikini top with a skirt over pants and flat-form flip-flops. She was no stranger to revealing, trashy clothing, and loved experimenting with bright colors. Even her hair and makeup were pretty bizarre. Though Gwen's sense of style is still out there for many people, she has seemed to tone things down a bit. She's known for her bold, edgy sense of style. She still loves wearing trendy pieces, but does so in an incredibly fashion-forward way. We love her signature platinum blonde hair and bright red lip, and that she's not afraid to experiment with fashion. Plus, she's known for wearing heels to the grocery store. While that may be a bit extra, it sure is epic!

    9 Paris Hilton

Paris Hilton was like the Elle Woods of the early 2000s. The blonde socialite became synonymous with wearing all pink, sparkly tiaras, and girly mini skirts. She loved juicy couture tracksuits (she owned them in every color), and anything that could be described as “blinged out.” Whether you loved or loved to hate her sense of fashion, Paris Hilton's girl style is totally iconic. Today, Paris has stepped out of her all-pink comfort zone. She still loves girly pieces and a lot of sparkle, but she seemed to tone it down as she's grown with age. She's more likely to wear a little black dress or something with leather rather than an all-pink outfit. And the world is a much better place because of it. At least she still is known for carrying one of her tiny Chihuahuas around as the perfect finishing touch on any of her outfits. A tiny dog is always a must.

    8 Jessica Simpson

For the longest time, it seemed like Jessica Simpson just didn't know how to dress herself. While the star is absolutely gorgeous, the clothing that she used to wear did nothing to enhance her beautiful features. It often seemed like she was trying too hard to be hot, even though that wasn't necessary. She helped popularize short jean shorts and midriff baring tops. On the red carpet, she liked to wear corsets or equally tight dresses that just looked uncomfortable. All in all, there always seemed to be something off about Jessica' s sense of style. Nowadays, Jessica has found her footing in the fashion world, and is currently working as a designer. Her style has vastly improved, and she often looks chic and sophisticated at events. The mother of two did received some harsh criticism for her maternity fashion, but we think she looked a hell of a lot better than she did during the early 2000s.

    7 Katy Perry

Katy Perry still has a wild sense of style, but it is nothing compared to what she used to wear when she first broke out on the musical scene. When Katy was first making her name in the music industry, she did not seem to know what her style was. She often wore pinup-inspired getups, but they always seemed awkward and juvenile. She was also known for rocking ridiculous headpieces and even worse makeup, which just added to her fashion failures. Nowadays, Katy is known for her signature bold style. She loves wearing unique pieces in bright colors and patterns. Even though her looks may be daring, they still have a fashion-forward aspect to them, which makes them work. We are so happy this California Girl found her style because we love seeing what out-there look she is going to wear on the red carpet next.

    6 Snooki

Snooki was a reality TV princess when Jersey Shore was at its peak. As famous as she was for her crazy antics on the show, she was also equally famous for her horrible sense of style. Snooki loved to wear ratchet outfits in neon colors. She could always be found in something leopard print. She also loved tight-fitting dresses, crop tops with slogans, and booty shorts. And she loved wearing enormous Ugg-inspired boots, like these black furry ones she was pictured in. Since her time on the show, Snooki has seemingly cleaned up her style. While it might be trashy to some people, she's definitely toned the leopard print and skimpy clothing down. These days, we can find her in skinny jeans, low cuts shirts, and wrap dresses that show off her curves. Snooki is currently a wife and mom of two, so perhaps settling down helped to calm her notoriously crazy sense of style.

    5 Kesha

When Kesha was first new to the music scene, she look like a complete hot mess. The singer is known for her edgy yet sloppy sense of style. It's all part of her party-girl image. She used to love rocking ripped tights, distressed band t-shirts, and anything in leather. She would also routinely leave the house without pants on, and perhaps only a pair of revealing booty shorts. Needless to say, Kesha's style has been all over the place, and not in a good way. In the past few years, Kesha has definitely toned down her style. She still has an edgy, grungy vibe to her look, but she rocks it in a much more polished way. Now you can spot her in an oversized t-shirt dress with a flannel overtop. She's also cut back on the glitter face and hair and makeup, and now goes for a more subtle beauty look. While Kesha's style is still true to her wild ways, it's a lot more relatable and fashion-forward rather than raunchy.

    4 Jennifer Lopez

Jennifer Lopez is an absolute bombshell, so we would never think she used to have a poor sense of style. But some investigating into photos taken of the musician-actress in the early 2000s reveals a different story. Back in the 2000s, Jennifer used to rock all of the cringeworthy trends from the decade that we've come to hate. Her signature style was to pair a baggy pair of pants with a tight, abs-baring crop top. On the red carpet, Jennifer would rock cargo capris with heels, midriff baring tops, and newsboys' hats. She also loved juicy couture tracksuits, bandanas, and leather pants. Today, J-Lo is known for her sophisticated fashion sense. She always wears gorgeous dresses to events that hug her in all the right places. While she's no stranger to taking risks with her style, she always looks pulled-together and polished. And it's a huge improvement from what she used to rock!

    3 Mila Kunis

Mila Kunis made a name for herself starring on That 70s Show in the 1990s and early 2000s. She didn't become known as a style icon until some time after the show ended. When she was brand new to Hollywood, Mila was known for rocking frumpy and super boring outfits. Unlike the other ladies on this list, her former style wasn't overtly racy or scandalous. Instead, it just looked like she didn't care. Mila used to rock a lot of oversized pieces, like baggy dresses or long cardigans, which did nothing to show off her figure. Her makeup and hair always looked like she did it in under 5 minutes, which isn't the look you what to go for when you're at a movie premiere. Luckily, it seems that Mila has since worked with a stylist, as her fashion sense has taken a 180-degree turn. She's now always featured on best-dressed lists. She loves rocking classic silhouettes that are both feminine and powerful. Off the red carpet, she gravitates towards comfortable bohemian-inspired pieces, making her one of the most fashionable celeb mamas out there.

    2 Fergie

Fergie is another celebrity who fell victim to the horrible fashion trends of the early 2000s. She wore a boatload of questionable outfits during this time. The singer has always gravitated towards sportier pieces, and this was especially true during The Black Eyed Peas' career climax. Fergie tended to wear pieces that showed off her enviable body. She liked baggy (like really, really baggy pants) with tight tops that showed off her midriff. She also loved to wear scarily high heels, and sometimes tried to pass of lingerie as actual clothing. Just like many poorly dressed celebs, Fergie refined her style as she grew older. She still wears a lot of revealing outfits (including lingerie!). But there is a more sophisticated vibe to it now. She also opts for trendier pieces that are not too wild, and sophisticated silhouettes. It appears that Fergie's fashion sense has aged well.

    1 Kim Kardashian

While some people still don't think Kim Kardashian has great fashion sense, we all can admit that her style is a lot better than how she used to dress. When the reality TV star was first becoming a household name, she had a few years full of fashion fails. Kim used to wear teeny tiny dresses in unflattering materials like shiny satin or clingy polyester. She also was into loud colors and unflattering, bold prints (especially leopard print). While she's always been known for showing some skin, she used to bare a lot more when she was younger. The cuts of her clothing used to be unflattering for her figure, which often left her looking frumpy or larger than she is. And it didn't help that her hair and makeup used to be a mess and she was notorious for using too much self-tanner. Today, Kim's husband Kanye West has a lot of influence over what she wears. She now goes for bolder, more fashion-forward looks and high designer names. While her cuts are usually daring, they're more sophisticated and age appropriate than what she used to wear. Thankfully, she stopped wearing satin!
