15 Oksana Grigorieva (Mel Gibson) - $750,000
Before Mel Gibson was married to his first wife Robyn Moore for 21-years and they had eight children together. The pair met when he was a nobody in Hollywood and she worked as a dental nurse, they married in 1980 and when they finally divorced she landed herself a payday of $400 million - the highest in Hollywood history. These figures clearly caught the attention of Russian singer-songwriter and pianist Oksana Grigorieva as she made her move on the Braveheart actor.
In 2009, their baby daughter Lucia was born but less than a year later Grigorieva obtained a restraining order against Gibson after she claimed he had physically assaulted her. A fierce custody battle then took place and Gibson offered his short-term partner a settlement of $15 million that was refused as Grigorieva had her sights set on more. After a long, grueling legal process Grigorieva was finally rewarded just $750,000 no doubt leaving her feeling that she didn't snap up the first offer on the table.
In 2014, she lost half of that amount after she spoke about Gibson on the Howard Stern Radio Show that was a violation of a confidentiality clause. She soon after filed for personal bankruptcy not long after.
14 Kevin Federline (Britney Spears) - $1 million
Kevin Federline danced with Britney Spears just one time and managed to get his own feet firmly under the table. He packed up his bags, left his pregnant fiancee actress Shar Jackson and moved in with the You Drive Me Crazy singer. Jackson later claimed in an interview the split "wasn't like just breaking up a relationship. It was like breaking up a family."
Within just three months they were engaged and nine months married - Federline was not wasting any time. They had two sons together but then in 2006 the bubble burst and a bitter custody battle began. Reports started circulating that Federline had won a payday of $1 million and ongoing child support set at $20,000 a month.
The stress of the divorce took its toll on Britney and in 2007 she was taken from her home on a stretcher and hospitalized at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. Federline was handed sole custody of both their children. It has been a long road to recovery for Britney but now she's firmly back on her feet. Although she hasn't been lucky in love yet as Federline's game playing has certainly raised her defenses.
13 Sarah Ferguson (Prince Andrew) - $3 million
One of the biggest scandals of the 90s was just how far Sarah Ferguson, also know as the Duchess of York, was willing to go to exploit her marriage to Prince Andrew (the third child of Queen Elizabeth II). The pair were married in 1986 and had two daughters together; Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie. Yet by 1991, whilst Prince Andrew was away on royal duties the Duchess was crucified by the press for constantly keeping company of other men. The marriage was doomed and the Duchess reached a divorce settlement worth $3 million.
Then in 2010, an undercover reporter for British tabloid News of the World secretly filmed the Duchess. On camera, she could be heard offering access to Prince Andrew for a large sum. She clearly says: "£500,000 ($643,000) when you can, to me, open doors". She then is seen taking away a briefcase containing $40,000 in cash. As a result of her "cash for access" scandal her invite was torn up for the royal wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton the following year.
12 Cris Judd (Jennifer Lopez) - $10 million
Ironically Jennifer Lopez met her choreographer husband Cris Judd when he was hired to direct her music video for Love Don't Cost A Thing. Judd was once the former lead dancer for Michael Jackson but his net worth was nowhere near that of his new girl's staggering $300 million. After starring in her other music videos I'm Real and I'm Gonna Be Alright he finally managed to win her over and the pair were married during a private ceremony in 2001 and divorced nine months later.
When the Daily Mail asked Judd why his ex-wife (who has been married and divorced three times) is unlucky in love he replied, "I can't give you the answer as to why her relationships don't work. I think that it's that it is work. It's whether you want to work on it or not. Everyone has baggage and problems. It's whether you want to deal with those problems. When you sign up to get married, you can't just walk away." However, Judd did walk away and he landed a payday of $20 million in the process.
11 Ivana Trump (Donald Trump) - $25 million
Ivana Zelníčková moved from Czechoslovakia to Canada in 1973. Here she took night lessons to improve on her English and she claimed to have been a member on the 1972 Czechoslovak Olympic Ski Team. This was later revealed as a lie when the Secretary General of the Czechoslovak Olympic Committee said, "Who is this Ivana woman, and why do people keep calling us about her? We have searched so many times and have consulted many, many people, and there is no such girl in our records." Busted.
Thanks to her former-Olympian alias she managed to meet Donald Trump and the two were soon wed during a lavish ceremony. They had three children together - Donald Jr, Ivanka, and Eric Trump. Vanity Fair reported in 1990 that Donald had always wanted 5 children and for each child, he gave Ivana a $250,000 "bonus."
After 14 years of marriage they divorced. According to Vanity Fair, Ivana received Ivana a reported $14 million cash settlement, an apartment at Trump Plaza, the family's 45-room Connecticut estate, and access to Mar-a-Lago, the family home in Palm Beach, Florida, that also serves as a private club for the Palm Beach elite so she could continue her socialite lifestyle.
10 Amber Heard (Johnny Depp) - $20 million
Johnny Depp is likely deeply regretting his divorce from his partner of 14 years, Vanessa Paradis. Shortly after the split in 2012, he met his future wife 29-year-old Amber Heard while filming The Rum Diary and they married four years later during a private civil ceremony at their home in Los Angeles.
Sadly things weren't meant to be and the marriage became a vicious battle over finances after Heard requested a restraining order against Depp. She demanded $50,000 in spousal support to cover her monthly expenditure of $43,700 for healthcare, groceries, shopping and $10,000 rent. This amount was swiftly denied by Depp's lawyer Laura Wasser who said, "As a successful actress with significant income of her own, there is no question that Amber can support herself until the parties have had a reasonable amount of time to assess their finances with the assistance of counsel."
After Heard allegedly said she had suffered abuse at the hands of Depp she is seeking $20 million of his $400 million fortune. His lawyer added to E! Online, "Amber is attempting to secure a premature financial resolution by alleging abuse. Her current application for a temporary restraining order along with her financial requests appears to be in response to the negative media attention she received earlier this week after filing for divorce." The bitter battle continues…
9 Diane Richie (Lionel Richie) - $20 million
Lionel and Diane Richie had a rocky start to their relationship. Lionel was still married to his first wife Brenda Harvey and the pair had adopted daughter Nicole Richie together in 1983. Three years later, Lionel and Diane (who at the time was an 18-year-old backup dancer) began having an affair, they were caught in a Beverley Hills hotel room when Brenda posed as room service and broke down the door. They were both brutally assaulted and Brenda was charged with spousal abuse, trespassing, assault, and vandalism.
In 2004, after marriage and two children together the couple finally called it quits. For Lionel it wasn't cheap - the divorce court awarded Diane an estimated settlement of $20 million. However that wasn't all, he still to this day pays her "essential lifestyle costs" which includes a $15,000 monthly clothing allowance, $50,000 a month beauty allowance for manicures, massages, vitamins, and other personal services, alongside a $20,000 a year plastic surgery budget. Hey - the kids might even get some cash too if they are lucky.
8 Heather Mills (Paul McCartney) - $31 million
Model and animal rights activist Heather Mills first met Paul McCartney in 1999 when they both took part in a charity event. They later became close and were married three years later. Then in 2006, after having a baby daughter together, they started divorce proceedings that took two long years and gave the media plenty to write about.
McCartney, who has a net worth of $800 million, offered Mills $15 million but she dismissed this and demanded $125 million. Mills was finally awarded $31 million and $50,000 a year for their daughter's nanny and school fees. The judge stated: "The husband's evidence was, in my judgment, balanced. He was consistent, accurate and honest. But I regret to have to say I cannot say the same about the wife's evidence. I am driven to the conclusion that much of her evidence, both written and oral, was not just inconsistent and inaccurate. Overall she was a less than impressive witness."
Mills' former publicist Michele Elyzabeth didn't speak kindly of her to the British tabloid News of the World. She revealed, "I've asked myself many times what was Heather's motivation, but it all points to one thing - money. She's a gold digger. I'm certain her marriage to Paul was all about the money. She not only misled me, she misled the entire world."
7 Orianne Cevey (Phil Collins) - $46 million
Earlier this year, singer-songwriter legend Phil Collins reunited with his third wife Orianne Cevey after eight years of being divorced. He had already settled in divorce court with her for an eye-watering $46 million but it appears the huge payment didn't put him off romancing her a second time around. The pair originally met when he was on tour in 1994 when she worked as his translator and they have two children together.
Collins spoke of his troubles after divorcing in an interview with Billboard magazine. He revealed, "(After the divorce), I'd wake up, turn the TV on and have a glass of wine. You look up at the end of the day and you've knocked off a couple of bottles - and you're still sober! I spent way too much time horizontal. It started to be bad for my body. I almost died. My organs were beginning to shut down." Now he appears much happier he has his ex-wife back but let's just hope it doesn't cost him so much this time.
6 Raffaello Follieri (Anne Hathaway) - $50 million
Although Anne Hathaway never married con artist Raffaello Follieri - she certainly paid for it as he managed to gain more than $50 million from being by her side. In 2004, she fell in love with the Italian real estate developer and she donated sizeable to his charity, Follieri Foundation. The Manhattan-based foundation helped provide vaccinations for children in Third World countries.
Then in 2008, Follieri was arrested on charges of defrauding investors out of millions of dollars in a scheme. Vanity Fair reported he had misspent a staggering amount from his "not-for-profit" scheme, including $107,000 in a private jet, $150,000 on personal medical expenses and thousands on a luxury dog grooming service. He had used to Hathaway to move in high society and Hollywood circles so he could secure more investments. Luckily Hathaway knew nothing about the real goings on and got off on all charges but for Follieri, he was handed four and a half years in prison.
5 Rachel Hunter (Rod Stewart) - $65 million
Aged just 21-years-old, Rachel Hunter met rock star Rod Stewart, 24 years her senior, and they were quick to get married. Hunter secured her future fortunes by having two children with the Da Ya Think I'm Sexy rocker and they separated in 1999. The pair took seven years to divorce as neither of them was in any hurry to reach a settlement but all that changed when Hunter discovered her ex-husband had found himself a new leggy blonde to marry, model Penny Lancaster.
The Sun newspaper revealed: "Rachel had never really demanded much money from Rod when they split up. Obviously, he pays maintenance for his children, but she has always earned her own money from her modeling career. But she was upset and humiliated when she found out he was getting married to Penny. She wants revenge - and the best way to hurt him is in his pocket." She hired top New York lawyers and set out for half of Stewart's $220 million fortune. Although thanks to a handy prenuptial agreement, Hunter received a reported $65 million and the nice guy threw in a couple of houses for her too.
4 Guy Ritchie (Madonna) - $80 million
Madonna and British film director Guy Ritchie's divorce came after just eight years of marriage. Madonna revealed in an interview with Newsweek magazine that problems started when her marriage didn't meet certain expectations. She said, "When you start off (in marriage), everything's great and lovely, and the person you've married is flawless, and you're flawless. Then time goes by, and you share a life, you have children, and there are cracks in the veneer." Whereas Ritchie referred to their marriage in an earlier interview as a "soap opera." Ritchie was awarded $80 million in the settlement.
American social commentator Mario Lavaneira told the Daily Express, "He doesn't care that the world thinks of him as Heather Mills. He doesn't care that he has his own money and doesn't need her. He feels he is entitled to half of her empire. He is not a macho man. Not a gentleman. Not spiritual. He's just a money-hungry gold digger that doesn't want to earn his way." These comments also stemmed from earlier concerns in the relationship when Ritchie avoided signing a prenuptial agreement even though Madonna's lawyers insisted that he did.
3 Anna Nicole Smith (J. Howard Marshall) - $90 million
Anna Nicole Smith is notorious for her larger than life personality, blonde hair and billionaire husband, J.Howard Marshall. Smith was working as a Playboy model when she met her 89-year-old husband - she was just 26-years-old. Although she was never named in his will, when Marshall died, Smith declared bankruptcy and was awarded $474 million as a "sanction for alleged misconduct."
Disgruntled family members and rightful heirs to the fortune were against this and they managed to overturn the ruling in 2002 - Smith's huge pay day was reduced down to $90 million, that was still considered a sizeable amount for just 14 months of marriage. Sadly her 20-year-old son from her first marriage, Daniel, died of a drug overdose in 2007. Larry Birkhead, father of Anna's second child Dannielynn said, "Anna was so close to Daniel that when she lost him, I didn't think she'd make it." He was right and five months later she died of a drugs overdose.
2 Amy Irving (Steven Spielberg) - $100 million
Amy Irving was on her way up as an aspiring actress throughout the 1970s after landing roles in Carrie and The Fury. Then she had her eyes set on a bigger prize (and likely some even bigger roles) - award-winning film director Steven Spielberg.
The pair dated for four years but then split up in 1980 as she went on to date actor Willie Nelson. Hopping between the two men cost her the lead role of Marion Ravenwood in Raiders of the Lost Ark (the role Spielberg was ready to hand her on a plate) and she soon regretted the decision, returning to Spielberg and eventually marrying him in 1985.
The marriage lasted four years before they decided to split. Spielberg had half a billion in the bank and thought his fortune was protected by a prenuptial agreement he had made Irving sign which would have been right - but it was written on the back of a napkin. Irving landed an alleged payday of $100 million and was pretty much set for the rest of her life.
1 Elin Nordegren (Tiger Woods) - $100 million
When Champion golfer Tiger Woods had been caught out cheating on his wife and mother of his two children Elin Nordegren it became world news. In 2009, more than a dozen women came out to the press and other media outlets as either mistresses or past flings of Tiger Woods. Sponsorship deals with Accenture, AT&T, Gatorade, General Motors, Gillette and TAG Heuer were then suspended as these companies had all bought into his image of "perfect husband and father."
Woods went into a 45-day treatment program and he stated, "I thought I could get away with whatever I wanted to. I felt that I had worked hard my entire life and deserved to enjoy all the temptations around me. I felt I was entitled. Thanks to money and fame, I didn't have to go far to find them. I was wrong. I was foolish."
For Nordegren, who met Woods when she was working as a nanny for a professional Swedish golfer, had finally landed the ultimate payday. She received $100 million - $20 million for each year they were married to each other.
